I'm so glad Dirty Pairs kickstarter worked out successfully! The more exposure it gets the better! I can't tell you how many times I've shown Project Eden, the OVA's and Dirty Pair flash to folks, to only tell em there's still more out there that isn't dubbed. Thanks for your coverage man! It's great to see more coverage on the Lovely Angels! ❤ Affair of Nolandia looks like an overlooked Gem 💎!
Huh I never knew Kei and Yuri were supposed to be psychic. I just figured they worked so well together in the TV shows and OVAs because of their deep bisexual life partnership.
@@KaiserBeamz I think the anime is it's own thing and the books themselves is it's own thing. The Kei and Yuri are not the same Kei and Yuri from the books, just like the Kei and Yuri are not the same from the comics or the recent Manga. The Anime, Human girls with a thing with guns, the books and manga adds psychic to it and the comics I guess they are part robot clone?
I'm kind glad they got rid of the psychic element because that takes away from comradery between Kei, and Yuri, and the trials, and tribulations they go through that's so entertaining about the series.
@@Launchpad05 What makes Dirty Pair great is more with Kei and Yuri's relationship with each other than any world ending plot. From fighting over boys to stealing each other's cake to there fighting, and SOME how with all that said, they are the closes of friends. They have each other's back, and deep down they really do care for the other.
KB, I have to give you a good deal of credit. You introduced me to the Lovely Angels in your first video and I have been hooked ever since. Thank you for that. And I donated to that Kickstarter because of you, so thanks.
I’ll never forget watching Dirty Pair on Stars Cable Channel. I remember watching some episodes and always looking forward to it but the Channel would play it very randomly or late.
Affair on Nolandia was my introduction to the Dirty Pair, setting the bar for my expectations with the franchise and becoming my most watched out of all the DP stories. At the time, I thought the entire rest of the series had a similar tone and atmosphere, so I was admittedly a bit disappointed when I realized that this was as serious as the show ever got. Interestingly enough, this video is also my introduction to your channel. Subbed.
I liked it well enough to buy a video tape and then upgrade to DVD. Too bad Right Stuf/Nozomi was acquired by Crunchyroll/Sony. Dubbing , no matter how good is never as good as the original language. But then again, I took Japanese in high school and university. It is a great tool for sharpening my skills. I like the character designs in all the variations. Adam Warren's in the comics/graphic novels as well. But I am biased. The Mrs is tall and willowy with long hair like Yuri but red headed and a lot like Kei.
The TV show wasn't released/translated until the series was "rescued" after ADV imploded. The 10 volume OVA was dubbed by ADV, but it had a non-seperate effects track, which made it a bit ropy. The 3 "movies" were dubbed by both Streamline and ADV. As to why the TV series took so long.. Suspicion includes an extra-large fee from Sunrise (never seen actual proof or numbers though). And the fact that series were rarely done pre-DVD (too much sunk cost). I suspect DP TV would have come out from ADV eventually, but it was on the track behind City Hunter TV (which WAS in limited release).
Did I see this one, did I not see it? I was wavering between the two throughout the video.... And then, that ending. That ending. Yes, I did see it and I'll take Project Eden over it, thank you.
Glad to hear the kickstarter was a success, honestly i'm just happy classics are still being pushed to get an English Dub after so many years, kinda wish more classics and even the obscure anime would get licensed as well. I've also heard about the Game Grumps Gyaru Girls line and i'm confused is it an homage or is it an actual thing they're doing like a comic or...Vtubing??? where the heck did that come from. lastly, I love that Rumiko Takahashi is brought up in this even though she had no involvement with producing Dirty Pair, I love learning that her work and her art style WAS influential with some anime during this time period.
Interestingly I _thiiiink_ my DP exposure went from Project Eden to 005 to Nolandia, to a randomized eventual assortment to the rest of the OVAs and TV eps.
I watched all of Dirty Pair's anime except the ugly 90s reboot this year and I had the exact opposite reaction to the longer features than you: I thought project eden was fine and haaaaaated Nolandia
Did Tomino write this one considering the ending's a use of his "kill em all" trope? Nonetheless, this feels like it would have been a two part episode of the original TV series, but two of the lesser ones. Flight 005 Conspiracy looks better.
Hey do you have sources for this stuff about the production circumstances, like the 4.5 mo. timeframe? Because even though I'm glad you're trying to clear things up, at least a couple things are still wrong like Hosono and Yasuhiko's involvement, Dokite's work background, or the connections with Urusei.
I like the art style of the other two movies, and while I did enjoy 'Project Eden', I understand your issues with it's plot. 'Nolandia' has an average art style with a plot that's both dark, and silly, but executed just enough to come off as a middle of the road entry. Not great, but not terrible.
Said this before I’ll say it again old school anime never dies.
It just gets better and better!
The old school always rules!

Three years later and we're all still waiting for those blu-rays.😅
The first time we see the Dirty Pair in animation form. This was a fun watch imo and a tragic ending.
Every knee in the Multiverse will bow down before Lovely Goddesses, eternally!!!
Glory and honor to Lovely Goddesses, eternally!!!!
Huh I never knew Kei and Yuri were supposed to be psychic. I just figured they worked so well together in the TV shows and OVAs because of their deep bisexual life partnership.
That's also the reason. They just never mention it in the books.

With the tv series dub inbound the angels are back on the rise. Glad to see you back in the game.

The art style does look strange but this one is one of my favorites.
I hope that, at some time in the future, you'll do a review of "Flight 005 Conspiracy."
woooohhh better than "Project Eden" ... Lets not get hasty here . ;-)
Slappy Squirrel AND David Mitchell? Two of my alltime favorite cranks. You have my attention.
I'll be waiting for you to review Flight 005 Conspiracy.
Thanks a lot for conextualizing this one for me!
Can we just draw attention to the fact that the LAND where NO one lives is called NOLANDIA?
Well now I want to find English translations of the novels
So glad the lovely angels are resurging again. Keep those rascals in the public consciousness!
I dunno. I just can't get over the art style change.
I'm the same way
Yeah same here.

Will you do a video about comic party revolution?
Weren't the TV show and some of the OVA's (including Eden and Nolandia) previously dubbed by Streamline and ADV before?
Yes! I should talk about their involvement in Dirty Pair's history next time I cover the franchise. Maybe the OVAs?
@@KaiserBeamz Might be a good avenue, with a little bit mentioning the initial dubs of the show.

It's about damn time to get Dublin English that is the TV series. I've known about this series since the 1990s.
Lovely Goddesses are both God Almighty and Astro Boy Is THEIR prophet!!!
Nice

Yuri’s design is so…. So…! 😭
Admittedly she does get to rock a motherly side-plait this way. So there is some winning.

What anime is that lady from at exactly :22 seconds who talks of this video/intro. She seems so familiar but can’t figure out which anime it’s from.
Video Girl Ai

Where can you watch this version of the Anime ?

Dirty Pair!! What a review, Beamz!
For all of Nolandia's faults, at least Kei looks surprisingly more good looking here than her TV version.

Ah yes, the somewhat icky one that based its plot around Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius and The Terminator.
