10:19 the basics on clotting are this:
If you are actively bleeding, clotting in the wound is good. It’s part of the healing factor, stops bleeding.
If you are not bleeding at all, clotting is bad cuz it’s inside you and stops blood flow.

my great aunt US Army Major Kathy was a combat medic / hospital anaesthesiologist who served in WW2, Korea, & Vietnam. She taught me 1st aid when I was 8 , including tourniquets because she saved 30 using tourniquets, and lost her fiance because she couldn't get the tourniquet on his leg in time, so she watched the life drain from his eyes.

I am considering not only trying to get more medical training, but provide more first aide/cpr courses like I taught in the past, and I am more likely to be carrying at pride events next year. I will be civil and not open carry and especially not Long Arms. I will also go through a conceal carry course. It is nice you let our your fear.
With that said, I am an army medic and I have the exact skills you are talking about. We need more like you.

A moment of paramedic levity for you. One of my brothers is an EMT/Firefighter (Structural and wild) and at one point was teaching new medics at the community college. So he starts a class with a scenario and after laying out the scene ends with "Now what do you do?" The first person to raise their hand said "Call 911!" So of course my brother had to respond "Good instinct, but you ARE the 911 first responder". So yeah, even just going through the first aid manual for for scouts can be a big help and keep a good head on your shoulders.

I - and a lot of people - have mixed feelings about the idea of security at Pride. Even the best community defense organizations can have problems and at worst security means police, which can make the event unsafe for many members of our own community.

There are a hell of a lot of ex military trans people and ex military queers in general that have been extremely active where both visible and subtle security is needed. There are several actual organized groups, but also just having queers that are trained in first aid and defense support just existing at pride has been a thing for decades now.
Not to brag, but a large chunk of elderqueers have had our asses bashed so many times as kids that we ended up collecting useful defense, first aid, and De-escalation skills like Pokémon. Hashtag not all queers of course, but a sizable enough population. We didn’t get this old by passively taking a beating after all.
Do we need organized hired armed guards at pride? Probably not… but you’ll be hard pressed to find an elder queer who doesn’t bash back in self defense, and there’s more to safety than showy security guards with guns. Especially where kids are concerned.

I don't join parades, demos in general due to anxiety.
But I do live in Berlin, I do party at BH, and other smaller queer parties, and I think about this all the time anyways. Part of the reason I go to BH, is that that place is like a bunker and can easily be locked-down.
I won't give up the gatherings that make me part of a community and I always think about what I would do in the worst case scenario. If we are prepared for the worst, we are ready for anything less stressful.

      @@LuluTheCorgi true enough.
Maybe you know already, but just to break it down for anyone else reading after having visited BH for a over a decade. Having started working with some of their security/door staff at music festivals as well. The hardest part about getting in is simply not being a regular, most people hear "not today" the first time, but that's because the place has been open in some form since the 90s and they focus on local culture (do not read "german" here) before tourism as there is only so much space. They only have space for like 1500 on a club weekend (~30hr party), and they certainly have more regulars than that, so it can be tricky with space.
BH is the most inclusive space I have ever been in as a crip trans person.

Thank you for this. You've got me thinking... even aside from the long history of political violence in my country (both homophobic and otherwise), I'm part of a queer community group where our membership skews older (as in, I'm in my early 40s and I feel like "the kid" a lot of the time), and we have to consider that accidents, heart attacks etc. are not uncommon. I'm going to bring to the group the question of whether we might be able to access a funding pot to send one or two of our regular attendees on a First Aid course - or indeed identify whether anyone in the group is already certified via their work, as that would be valuable to know.
Your video also made me wonder about the locations of our public defibrilators: I used to live opposite one, but I couldn't have said for sure where others where. I've learned that there are many around the UK and, while there are maps online, the advice is always to call 999 in an emergency and ask for the ambulance service to tell you the location of the nearest one, as they will be more up-to-date. It doesn't look like we have one in our LGBT Centre, so I am going to ask if that's something we might be able to fundraise for alongside other groups who use the building.

this is good, but I think coming armed might be a good idea too, that way if someone does try somthing like doing a mass shooting, we can as a community deffend ourselves from such people, and honestly either guns are banned (super unlikely given the climate) or the left needs to start arming themselves as well, since we often can't trust police to protect the community, not saying that first aid skill are not somthing everyone should learn, but that in a situation like that it's better to be able to defend oneself and the community, and for the community to be prepared to act in mutal aid of one another; we don't want to reach the stage of a strong millitant right wing, and a weak pacifistic left wing, although non-violenent ressistance is good, their comes a point when peace no longer an option, like when violence breaks out against one's community, mutual aid and deffence become important, so I think everyone on the left should get armed at this point, especially given the hard right turn we have seen, and the amping of violent extremism on the right, we would be fools on the left to not arm ourselves in such an enviroment.

    • @Trash-Garbage-Trash
      @Trash-Garbage-Trash  3 місяці тому +5

Yeah, I think you should look into John Brown Gun Clubs, there are many regional ones. They're decentralized armed community defense organizations which organize locally to defend their community including queer events from bad actors. Look into it. We have two of them in the Appalachian region (that I am aware of) and there are several in the pacific northwest area too, and I believe some in Texas. They do things like combat training, weapons training, and community defense actions. In m opinion, first aid should be first. Everyone who wants to participate in community defense, especially armed, should learn first aid before they ever pick up a gun. If you want to be armed, you should know how to stop the bleed. Because accidents happen. Cops shoot each other all the time. Friendly fire, misfires. If you carry a weapon, you should have stop the bleed training. Most cops don't even have the bare minimum first aid training and that makes them far more of a liability to the community they pretend to serve. I don't want JBGCs to be the same as cops. I want them to be trained in these skills too. First aid should come first. Luckily it's very accessible, if you can afford a gun you can afford an IFAK.

On the other hand, there was an attack plan for Vienna Pride last year that the security forces foiled before anything could happen. So probably a good idea to be a bit prepared.

I think they should teach it in schools! They have cut a lot of health curriculum in US schools because it's not part of standardized testing but this would be the perfect addition to a high school health class. You wouldn't even have to include things like mass shootings, severe bleeding happens everywhere, kitchen accidents, hunting accidents, car accidents. It's a basic skill everyone should know.

Trash. I love this video. I don't wanna Sharp shoot because at the end of the day, getting any info out can create interest for everyone to find. My IFAK for a situation like this is a small bag slightly bigger than an fanny pack. I typically have two CAT or SWAT TQs, 4 Quick Clot gauze and 4 zpack gauze. 2 4" Emergency Truama Bandages and 2 chest seals.
In a case like this with many possoble casulties, make everyone in your group carry an IFAK with the Butch Lesbian carrying half her bag as an extended truama kit. Lastly, learn how to improvise pressure dressings and dare i say it a tourniquet (last f-ing ditch, can be done, but you have to know exactly how to make one. I have done it real world).
Last part, you did address a way to decrease bystanders assuming someome else will act by making them accountable. Do so as best as you can. Also, always have a Cis Het Passing White Guy. Unfortunately, I AM that guy. However, i am very good at delegating tasks as needed.
I do have my disagreements on exactly how you view the police, but ultimately yes police are not going to let first responders in quick enough because "The Scene is not Safe." That is where people like you and me come in. We can provide the aide from the inside.
Lastly, if you are an off duty first responder, find out the emergency plans of tje venue as best as you can, know escape routes, and try to establish to CCP.

Thank you! Yeah, for people like you and me the police are very often a safe option in this kind of scenario. That's not true for everyone which is why we have to be the ones to do it if we can. My kit is also a little bigger but what I try to consider is that if the kit is too big, many people won't carry it. As we learned during the latest pandemic, people won't do things if they're too inconvenient. I want people to have a kit they will carry. I have extra gear like airway stuff and a compact bag valve mask, but for the average person I think they should focus on building a kit they will actually carry with them. Which for most people means focusing on only the essentials they will use. The more hemostatic gauze the better imo. I also keep narcan in a separate pocket. During my clinicals we used a hell of a lot of narcan.

I carry a much smaller kit with me everyday, almost exactly like what it above mentioned. In a gallon zip lock bag in a small gym back or in a fanny pack. It's really unfortunate but "Find a white guy" is a solution in many instances. For example, when trying to get healthcare, it's recommended to bring a white guy with you to repeat everything you say but in a whiter, manlier voice. And it actually works. You get better healthcare doing that.

    • @Trash-Garbage-Trash
      @Trash-Garbage-Trash  3 місяці тому +1

I would say it's the same as everyone else: stick with your friends, don't drink because you're a minor, don't go to a secondary location, tell your adults where you are (if safe), keep your phone charged, watch your drinks (do this everywhere all the time tbh) and get the same training as adults would. You'll be ahead of the curve. Most Pride events are very minor/child-friendly and if they aren't, they won't let you in.

Thanks for this information and raising awareness
Edit: I would like to invest a bit in building a proper IFAK and learning how to use it, as well as taking a CPR course, and ofc small stuff like carrying a small thing of alcohol spray, Neosporin, and some bandaids, because why not. I’d like to get a cute and organized easy to access bag that’ll fit the kit, my phone, maybe a water, and small essentials like products for sexual health and the ones I mentioned above like alcohol spray and band-Aids. It sounds like a lot but most of this stuff doesn’t take up much space, and I’ll likely still have room in the bag as well.
One of the main reasons I carry sexual health items isn’t because I plan to use them but because I’ve been sexually assaulted ( raped ) and if other people need something I could provide something basic. I am ace and already have a partner that I love and care about, but it’s more of a safety thing.
If I go with them this will be my first pride event, I’m young and didn’t come from a place where I felt comfortable going out, so it’ll be a first for me if we go this year or next year, they’ve been before

It is. There's a lot of controversy and debate about it in the medical community because of patient dignity and yeah, destroying their property. But it really depends, for a severe multiple traumas it can make sense. I've heard some really upsetting stories about "trauma naked."

I don’t doubt it. Hate, anger, malice, it’s all over the place as of lately. In a lot of ways, this has become a war. There’s bad actors on both sides, and it’s a snake biting its tail. The violent people on both sides have led to an endless perpetuation of hate. Violence is not the answer. Both sides do it though. I just want the fighting to stop.

In the independent art world, there are literally thousands of designs that portray violence and even death towards non-lgbt people. There are so many of these designs if I was reporting them it would take up all my time, i would not be making art anymore I would just be reporting violence towards straight people all day every day. This is not a one sided thing, and I do not blame people for reacting to what has been forced on them.

Ah yes because homophobia ended when same sex marriage was allowed. Don't mind the hundreds of anti queer bills or the increased social ostracism that comes from it, I'm sure it's fine. I'm sure the increased risk of getting murdered because of you being yourself is completely normal, or countries where you can be executed by being queer. I'm sure it's fine

@@TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS "You can just say you pretend to not see any injustice instead."
What kind of injustice are you talking about? Men can marry men, women can marry women, just like men can marry women. And this was the only injustice, which has now been repaired.
"That would be so much easier for everyone."
It's not a matter of being easier. The time has come for people to look inside themselves and to stop blaming everyone else or society for feeling a victim. Take responsibility for feeling a victim, because in reality nobody cares enough as to purposely victimize others.

I've had a concealed carry license for over a decade. I grew up in the rural South. I'm relatively experienced with guns.
Now I'm of the opinion that everyone who wants to do armed community defense should get first aid training before they ever touch a gun. First aid training is helpful in a lot more everyday situations than a gun. And it's accessible to people who don't feel owning a gun is right for them. First aid first. That's my opinion.
