    The devs have annouced this in recent patch notes for the game. "In parallel with addressing technical issues and bugs we are seeing and you are reporting, we are also watching critical feedback and engagement with the water system. Please stand by as we evolve this system. We are looking at more applications for water usage, and are also incorporating some of the ideas from the discord. Your voices are crucial to shaping the future of all things Forever Winter."
    Would be great if you mentioned in your review they are listening to the community and will clearly change it to something more fun than it currently is.

      @Phoenix42.0 9 днів тому

      You said it's a conscious decision from the devs, which is quite misleading as yes they made that decision, but they've now stated they're going to change that decision they made... You made it sound like they're sticking to their guns and refusing to change it.

    • @2minutegamer
      @2minutegamer  9 днів тому +3

      I never assumed they would stick to their guns and guessed they would be listening and responding to the criticisms for this mechanic, given their engagement with the community so far...which is kinda the reason for this video, so looks like it's working. Either way, you've won the sticky comment for this video! 🙌

      @@Phoenix42.0 They made a conscious decision to add a terrible mechanic into a game that they said in a video they learn from all the mistakes of other devs. I don't have faith in developers that try to flag them selves as better then others then fall flat on their face out of the gate.

      @@2minutegamer Oh sorry if I was harsh. Was just trying to give some feedback that the patch notes came out on the 25th and you didn't research enough to read them before you recorded your video. Not sure how long it takes you to release but I'd say it was a mistake on your part to not read them if they were out before you recorded the video.
      And it was a pretty big portion of your review and it was the last thing in the review, being in the last section of the review gives it the most importance and is the thing left fresh in the viewers mind when they end the review. Maybe think about adding a recap of the entire review rather then ending on the most negative thing in the review.

      @@trevtrev1523 I mean they're being extremely open and honest in their communication. You can wait and see if you don't trust them to follow through on their word to change the water system. I'm seeing their communication to be very similar to the communication of Grinding Gear Games in the years I've played Path of Exile. Who have been great to the community for decades now.
      I lose trust when people break their word. It's how you respond to and fix the mistakes you make that make you a trustworthy developer. Not making no mistakes at all, that's ludicrous to expect of humans. I will also be waiting and seeing how they change the water system and if I don't like it I will be posting feedback in their official discord that they are very clearly listening to.

    Little correction there: Everything BUT character progression gets wiped. You maintain the XP level/prestige with each character, but all of your quests and items get reset.

    While I love the concept and I'm looking forward to trying this game further into development, what's putting me off right now is that seems like they've prioritised curb appeal over core mechanics.
    At this point in gaming history, a game all about scavengers creeping around an active battlefield should have really, really robust and intuitive stealth mechanics. There should be a way to hide in all that beautifully-rendered debris and chaos; a way to camouflage yourself; mechanics for breaking line of sight, like smoke bombs and distractions; given that the game revolves around carrying a heavy backpack while sneaking, the movement system should have Dying Light levels of freedom (though of course, less leaping, more crawling). Given that the game is all about active battlefields, the rules for spawning should be really stable; every map should have clear entry points for new units that geographically make sense (no tanks in areas that tanks couldn't drive to etc). The audio system should be absolutely on point, with proper delayed sound for distant shots/explosions, with the sound of the battlefield giving clear feedback at all times on what's actually happening.
    Given that Red Faction Guerrilla had fully destructible buildings in 2009, we should also be seeing more environmental interaction and destruction here, with a dynamic system of wreckage changing position/being destroyed, opening and closing routes over the course of a mission.
    Good development practices should have meant that all of these things were a given, before any of the art assets were finalised. And while I can easily believe they'll work on this stuff over time... it's harder to work on such things when you already have the art in place (harder to tweak movement systems when you've already built a character model that might not be compatible with the movement). In fact, on the topic of character models - you start with a concept of a guy in a big heavy coat, with a big heavy and awkward backpack... then say the dude is a scavenger trying to stay out of sight and not be noticed? Immediately you have a disconnect between the lore and the situation - hit and run, hiding, crawling through debris... you would want smaller backpacks, maybe some way to detach your backpack and drag it, or leave it behind to come back for it later. Moments of speed, hours of patience; that's what it would take. You wouldn't have scavengers waddling around like this, derping blindly into and out of firefights.
    Just seems to me like a lot of people have forgotten/never understood... a game that looks good, but doesn't play so well? Has a much bigger struggle ahead than a game that plays well and looks awful. Especially if you've allowed people to start playing it, and now you have a big problem of any necessary major gameplay overhaul... being met with resentment from those who have bonded with the older, jankier systems.

    i would love this game if not for the way enemies spawn, i have seen squads spawn out of thin air to charge down routes i was using or spawn behind me, not "i wasn't watching and got crept up on" actually just spawn behind me from a dead angle, there also seems to be a weird bug where enemies can see you looting allied corpses from absurd distances and through walls which is really frustrating.

    To me the water thing is literally the only thing keeping me from this game. I actually think the sluggish controls are appropriate, given the weight mechanics and maneuvering around hellscapes with a huge backpack and what looks like five coats on at once.

      @DerFreiegedanke Yeah, I know it's not as bad as it seems, I do have the game and I'm still tweaking some settings to smooth things out, but I work four 12h shifts during the week, so the idea of having it drain that whole time, even if it's not a guaranteed wipe is still pretty unappealing
      Not to mention it's realistically just a mechanic to magnetise me to the game constantly, and I don't like that, I play when I can and want to, I'm not a big fan of games nagging me into constantly giving them attention

    The AI is also poor, notice how enemy NPC's follow each other in a strait line column, they can also shoot through objects and if you shoot one lots appear and know exactly where you are so having prone and actually being able to hide behind half cover needs lots of work.
    I also play like 1x or maybe 2x a week and the water mechanic is a big no for me. The devs are trying to force players to keep playing and thats a way to aggressive stance even if water is easy to get.
    I often leave games for months when i get bored and return later to carry on but now i have to keep restarting so kinda pointless. Best option would be give the players a choice, one mode like now and one where game time counts not RL time. This allows people then to enjoy the game how they want to.

    Character progression is not effected by water death. If for some reason that happens, since water is essentially a non-issue for people that play normally, the Innards progress and stash is wipped out.
    Play reg missions, water in raids, and even easy water farm runs, make water death easy to avoid.
    The game does need a lot of work, and yet, strangely fun and addicting.

    Honestly.. for a casual player - jumping into the game for a few hours once a week it's not even a problem to easily get a good amount of water through quests such as kill 10 cyborgs.. and you can chill again.. also you don't lose your character progress - but the current stash.

    You raised some good points, and that’s an interesting take on the water solution that makes it not quite as harsh.
    I do wonder how the gameplay loop will work in terms of levelling and progression once the game is out of EA. Will you grind to get continually better or different weapons/gear, achievements, try more difficult bosses or maps, kit out your innards, grind for skins/decorations. Will there be seasonal content. Im very optimistic and excited for this games future.
    Enjoying your streams of The Forever Winter too!

    What worries me is that the sluggish movement and mechanics are probably not going to be ironed out, at least for a while.
    I've played a LOT of early access games for over a decade and if there is one this that has become a recurring pattern, it's that early access jank tends to stay, even when other features and big fixes have been added.
    So far the aesthetics are on point, (aside from the Terminator zombies, which look dumb), but the programming comes off as a bit amateurish.
    I hope I am proven wrong the further the game develops. I will be keeping an eye on this game.

    • @802Garage

      There will be times where people don't play the game for 55 days, this view is shortsighted in that it has less to do with the amount of effort it takes to get water (which is fuck all), than it is that unless the game has a seasonal reset where certain progress/loot is wiped as a design, that it offers nothing but punishment for players who take extended breaks from the game.
