You would like Dark and Darker. As is, it’s an extraction looter game with no story. They say that’s because they are trying to get the combat and game loop perfect, then we will see an actual campaign. Already hinted at some excellent writing. Best 20$ early access game I’ve ever gotten.

The problem with mold is, by the time it's actually showing fruiting bodies on the surface, the mycelium has already infiltrated most of what it's consuming.
So, thanks to this, I gave the Early Access Demo a try, and as someone who plays spellcasters, I'm pleased that the way to get/learn/find new spells is frankly, about the same way as in Arx Fatalis or even Underworld Ascendant. In that you could try finding the scrolls/tomes to learn the spells, or you can experiment with what you have. For example, the Douse Spell, if Splatter added in that last node (echo stone) He'd have gotten the opposite spell (Ignite) learned. Sadly, neither are very combat effective, but farther experiments have yielded more potent spells. Such as a rapid firing arcane arrow (drains mana quick though so be careful), and a spell similar to Burning hands from D&D. Later, with more stones and farther experiments, I found a similar lightning spells and an always useful Light spell. Granted, spells learned through experimentation are only revealed/learned after getting the minimum Intelligence first to cast them. Either way, I've always found this form of Spellcraft in games to be fun and interesting.
I like magic systems that allow for experimentation and customizing spells. It's also more immersive, in the sense that most spellcasters in any lore came up with different powerful spells that you end up using, and it's cool that you get to experiment and create your own like the in-lore casters.
Are there difficulty settings? I need an easy game, when it comes to 'real-time' combat. PS. I didn't like Arx Fatalis, but I don't remember why, right now. Is that the one where you had to move your mouse in a particular pattern in order to cast a spell? If so, that might be it. But I always like supporting indie developers, even if I've already got more games than I can play. :)
@@Bill_Garthright If you didn't like Arx Fatalis, you probably won't like this. I've played a few hours now, and it's pretty much Arx. And here I thought I was the only one who played/ remembers King's Field and kind of preferred it to all of From's Souls games.
That final 2v1 was intense. Game looks nice!
This looks really cool, was just talking to my wife about how cool it would be to make mini games for crafting that make it more realistic but still keep it a game. Adding this to the wishlist
A cup of dark messiah, a dash of thief, a sprinkle of arx fatalis. I´m into it!
Dark Messiah. That game was the S.H.I.T. Completed that more than 30 times I think.
Damn I REALLY see the Arx Fatalis influences here
I love it when splat rants about rhubarb
I want a game like this, but faster paced and high fantasy. Let us start shooting spells and punching boulders right from jump, with all of this excellent interactivity.
dark and darker
@@MxdKush That game is PvPvE trash.
@@SFJake250 Skill issue
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
@4Moth2Mellow0 Shit taste
That beginning instantly reminded of Arx Fatalis beginning
This reminds me both of Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah, wishlisted!
An absolutely beautiful game. The look alone would draw me in. 😀
This absolutely breathes of Arkane Studios circa Arx Fatalis & Dark Messiah of M&M. GIMME!
This looks like a great weekend game
Happy to see so many fans of rhubarb pie. Most people I know aren’t at all familiar with it. An d straight rhubarb, thank you very much. No strawberry mixed in.
Game looks fantastic.
That rat attacking in the dungeon gave me some serious Daggerfall nostalgia. I loved that game.
Have you tried the unity version not the one on GOG as it has bad mods attached to it.
I liked the mold story (about it tasting like grass).
The playthrough was fine too, but I came for your story telling abilities :)
This is like a mix of Arx Fatalis and Thief!
Ah yeah, those unreal metahuman portraits. You can spot them from miles away.
Great video of a decent game...😊 Thanks bro
3:22 I couldnt agree more. Having seen to much of what people are capable of, I dont have that blind gratefulness to be alive in a situation like that. Never heared that sentiment echoed before!
STRONG Arx Fatalis vibes with some Thief mixed in!
This game looks like it would be perfect to be turned into a VR game.
Looks worthy to try. Thanks, Splattercat
Placing the pie by the fire made me laugh for, like, a solid 60 seconds for some reason. lol
Kingsfield? That’s all Ultima Underworld my child.
If you haven’t, you should play Arx Fatalis. Its awesome.
This game reminds me of Arx Fatalis, one of the earliest games of Arkane Studios.
This reminds me of Arx Fatalis... especially the cooking
This is what I have been looking for!
Tried playing Dark and Darker because of its atmospheric dungeon crawling but i kept getting rushed by blood thirsty other players. I get it, that is the kind of game they wanted to play, but all it did was reinforce my desire for a single player dungeon crawler that looked like D&D.
Dark and Darker is full of murder hobos.
@@skunkybudtoker9092 True. and I cant really blame them because the MINUTE they show mercy on someone else, THAT PLAYER will go full murder hobo so often they cant risk it anymore.
Dark and Darker has some great looking maps though... but i must admit I am not good at navigating them for quests.
Running into similar problems in Monomyth Demo. I think I am still in the starting Catacombs and know A Way potentially forward but ran into yet another Wraith long after my one glass saber broke on me so idk how to get past it. My character is too dumb to use magic properly.
wow, yeah bringing up Kingsfield, one of my fav games of all time. Back in the day before you could just look up puzzles online, you had to figure stuff out on your own or wait for strats at the local magazine store to solve stuff your stuck in
i absolutely love kings field, it would make me so mad! i would quit for months i thought it was such a hard game, im sure it wasnt that hard with a walk through, but at the time i thought it to be the most difficult game i ever played, i still do, tank controls, brutal. blew all the souls out of the water cuz they WANTED you to fall down the hole and die, they actively made you want to try it, there really could be treasure that you NEED down there >
Kings Field The Ancient City is one of my all time favorite games as well. Keep my KF4 PS2 CD in a ziplock bag for safe keeping lol. I am definitely checking this game out because like you said not alot of these made anymore.
The way the bonfire was placed looks very very close to the first bonfire you find in Arx Fatalis :D
09:53 - Splat, you're ignoring the entire category of savoury pies...
7:17 Ribbed, but not for our pleasure
😂
you find the coolest games. thank you. pretty amazing for a rock hound. ;)
It looks like having a backup weapon is a good idea. Also using a crappy weapon to break barrels. Looks like a fun game!
1:21 its Keanu "Jesus" Reeves
Keanu Jackman
It’s Neo Speedman, can’t go over 55 miles/hour in a bus otherwise time travels.
You know the game is good when Splat exceeds 40 mins mark
So far, the game reminds me of Arx Fatalis. And that makes me happy. Was one of my most favorite games, because oif the interaction possibilities with the world.
I feel that character portrait is like a cross between Keanu Reves and Jack Black.
OH MAN the second you said shadow keep
it all clicked
i had that game on the 3D0 the panasonic console
it was sooo ahead of its time
3d rpg dung crawler
ima have to try this one out now.
you can kick using the middle mouse button. and those boxes you cannot open... you can smash them against stuff, which eventually will break them... and they DO have stuff inside.
9:55 I liked how you were concerned about the type of pie, but were perfectly fine eating the meat from a barrel in a dungeon..
Looks awesome ! Legend of Grimrock vibes
This one looks pretty good. I agree with the Arx Fatalis comparisons.
The magic reminds me how, in old Warhammer, you started with spells like Protection from Rain :D
10:20 shoo fly pie is underrated
excellent!
For some reason, this gives me "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic"-Vibes.
