Crazy how before 2010s it used to be an ordinary town, now it’s associated with Fallout.

I can't imagine what a financial boon this is for the saloon, it can't be easy running a business in the middle of the desert
Imagine one day your tending to a lonely bar when some weirdo comes in with a camera and asks you if he could take reference pictures for a video game. You don’t really play games and haven’t the faintest idea what he will do with the pictures but he buys a drink and you figure it can’t hurt so long as he don’t bother nobody so you let him get his camera out and he snaps just about everything even the busted old jukebox you’ve been meaning to fix. As soon as he done he leaves never to be seen again, but then about a year latter a whole bunch of people come to the salon talking about some mail man and a Mr Home guy.
I’m pretty sure it’s a popular biker spot as well so they always have a steady flow of guys coming in from rides out in the desert
I've heard rumors circling that the owner was planning on building a motel at some point with the success of the event.
@@vladimirvich468definitely. A few bikes we walking in when they asked me what all the celebration was about. I told them it was for a videogame and he asked if it was call of duty. I said no and another biker chimed in and she asked if it was for fallout. I confirmed it was and she was happy she got it right.
Worth the wait for the food - I went there a month ago, they have one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had.
If y'all don't know, Matt Perry was a great help to people suffering from alcoholism like he did. He did a lot of good work for a lot of people.

I was actually half expecting for the town to be incredibly annoyed with the tourists. It's nice to see that they can actually co-exist with them.
Oh god, that reminds me of the poor people who owned the goonies house. Cigarette butts and garbage everywhere. Torn up lawn and the people are just trying to live normally.

Chances are the event's growth will increase for the next few years before averaging out. I hope the town is prepared for that. My guess is minimally 5000 or so will show up next year.

It must be wild for the locals for their tiny little ghost town in a desert devoid of life to suddenly have an annual event because a friggin' video game featuring the town was extremely popular.
I keep seeing that the saloon is actually a popular biker bar and alot of traveling people wind up stopping there along the way
There's plenty of life in the desert, you just have to know where to look.
not really devoid of life at all. north american deserts are very biodiverse and full of plants and animals. its not like the Sahara or Arabian deserts. there is plenty to forage in the mojave and sonoran deserts and it sustained large populations at several points in phases of drought and wet. agricultural native societies settled down and lived in the south west and built canals and irrigation to transport water and they built societies that attracted immigration from mexico and canada and had contact and trade with people as far as the Inuit's. archeologists have found peanuts, cacao, copper traded from the north and macaw feathers from south america among things discovered in mogollon ruins.

thats basically how they keep above water: travelers and people on long work routes and truckers stopping by. Thats a cool thing about america. No sign of life for hours and suddenly you can across some diner thats open until 3 in the morning and another 10 minutes later behind some treewall on a dirtroad there is a small grocery/essentials store like in some horror movie. Somewhere nearby a few houses from the owners family and a few others. And then dead road for hours again

Chances are Mathew parry took the role to file his drug addiction. His lines sound flat like he just wanted to get it over with and as struggled with alcohol and drugs his entire life. He was still an amazing actor and good person I am just stating facts. Same for Dany Trejo does not remember voicing his character in fallout. They all just went in one day recorded their lines and were gone.

My entire city has a population of ~11,000.
That many people in such a small cramped area would probably make me very anxious.

@@amanofnoreputation2164 In fact, there are large tracts of that "trackless desert" that you have to stay off of, because they're home to various endangered species. Also, the desert scorpions, spiders, and snakes are the opposite of endangered, but are less-than-comfortable hitchhikers.

This made me proud as a Fallout fan. No matter which Fallout is your favourite, the Fallout community has always been one of the best gaming communities out there, we just wanna enjoy and share our game experiences with others.
@cooldew729 That's just wrong, but I don't want to make fun of your ignorance. Bethesda communities are some of the most casual and thus most toxic ones when you leave competitive multiplayer games out. Every new Fallout game got shit-talked immensely. Fallout NV sucked when it came out because it was not Fallout 3, and when Fallout 4 came out, people demanded NV back. Same goes with Skyrim.
The communities are filled to the limit with "casual rpg gamers" that have no idea about games and get their opinions from watching other people talk about the games.
I wouldn't call that a good community when at least half of them are constantly shit-talking the games they put thousands of hours in.
It is so crazy that a game from a while ago is bringing everyone together like this! I hope to go next year

I am sure most people attending were not interested in Fallout 3, 4, 76, or the series, as they are all dogshite produced by Bethesda.
Even today, more times than not when I sit down to play a video game, it is a fallout game.
As a resident of Nevada and a lifelong fan, I'm very proud to see this growing community.
Even in Northern Nevada we are seeing more and more people accepting the culture that is Fallout. Halloween looks like a raider fever dream...
Maybe next year you can take up a donation before to pay for extra Porta potties or even food trucks. I like the attitude from Obsidian/Bethesda. It would be stupid to shut it down, and I also don't feel like they should be there in an official capacity. But more developers and actors stopping by would be cool. Christine totally deserved the win!
It would be very advantageous to do that, but also maybe build a small hotel to accommodate these travelers. The Fallot Hotel, with video themed motif. Granted it's a once a year thing, but some may find a hotel off the grid from the traditional Vegas refreshing & give Good Springs a boost in their economy!

It may be worth the hassle to sell some prepackaged snacks, just in case the food truck situation doesn't work out like they plan. Heck you can probably buy surplus MREs somewhere and sell them on the side, and if they don't move, you could either donate them to a food charity or sell them online to campers and hikers.
New Vegas really is on another level, you can really tell this whole thing is ran with passion and love rather than souless profit.
The fact this is only happening so many years after the game's release really shows how good it is.

I got there early Friday morning and got the pleasure to meet a few of the locals before everyone showed up, they were so sweet and welcoming!! Several I had met stayed around throughout the weekend and hung out with all of us Fallout fans!! It was such a great experience, and being someone who doesn't really go out alot, I would do this 1000 times over again! The vibes were immaculate ❤️❤️❤️
The bartenders told me that the Fallout fans were the nicest, kindest people they got all year. And this was after we drank all the Gin in town.
Every local was super nice and accommodating. They loved to just check out our outfits and discuss the history of the town. Nothing but positive vibes all around.
Like you and many others, I have a ton of social anxiety, but this was the kindest, most welcoming group of people I've ever been a part of. The staff was amazing and Old Man Liver was cool as hell. I bought a couple of bottles of his whiskey and he gifted me some of his hot sauce and tejon style spicy dust. I wish I could have met Nate, but I had no idea what he even looked like. Meeting you was a huge highlight for me for sure. I can't wait until next year. My son says we have to start planning costumes now and I totally agree!
Spent pretty much this whole video in tears, with Matt in mind, and just to see this much love, dedication, and community, all caused by FNV is so touching, thanks for helping to keep this game alive, online and off.

Me too me too.. I was and still am just devastated by the news that he passed. I know it prolly seems silly I never met the guy but I’ve been having a hard time with his passing. I’m crying just watching this video and seeing how amazing this event was! (And then started bawling when I read your comment) Times are tough, the world has become such a dark and scary place lately and its beautiful seeing the light shining in that darkness from this event. We’ve all got to stick together..

I've always admired how 1 single video game can get so many people together, as one big happy family.. I'd love to go one day but flying is just to expensive for me.
Oh, it's not one single video game - it's an outstanding entry in a series that has, what, seven or eight official games now? (Plus the game-sized DLCs that fans have made, from the Fallout 2 spinoff using the same engine as Fallout 3 to the still-in-development Fallout London.) If the entire thing depended only on people who'd played FNV but no other Fallout games, it would never have gotten so huge so quickly, any more than West Virginia would have developed Fallout tours on the strength of F76 alone.
I want to go so i can look tks-mantis in the eye and have him tell me with a straight face that starfield is bethesda's magnum opus.
Its really sad that this whole thing is built on the bed of a person who lied to his audience and shilled the worst bethesda game to date for money.

It was absolutely fun, I missed the first one and vowed to be a part of this one and so glad that there are so amazing people. I figured it be above a thousand but didn't realize it was 3000, no wonder why the food line for lunch was about 2 hours long. I do wish to thank the staff. Also I hope they get more of the Gold Mine Sarsaparilla because me, my friends, and relative LOVED it. We actually wanted to get more when it was sunday but sadly it was sold out. And lastly you and your crew are fantastic TK, to actually meet you and get a photo was great!
I think it would be really great if you could get maybe like Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky, or some of the other creators/voice actors for the games to come out to sign autographs/do a Q&A next year. I think that would be really cool!
Idk about Cain and Boyarsky, as they weren’t involved in the development of NV, but I could see Josh Sawyer showing up to one of these.
It’s really cool seeing that Nate made an appearance.
More people are going to start turning up next year I guarantee people are going to start opening up more stores. For good springs it’s going to actually be very economically valuable for them. so it is really good to see the fallout community fandom provide for this community.

Well handled it can be but they're right at the edge of where it can turn sour if you aren't careful. Even with the best intentions and no real jerks you can end up with more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully they'll do well down the road.

I'm disappointed I was not able to attend this year. Last year's inaugural event was such a blast! And it was awesome to meet you! So cool to see fans from literally all over the place coming together to share in the festivities. The town, and the Pioneer Saloon in particular, really went out of their way to make it successful and I was super happy to see that there was an event planned for this year as well. Here's to 2024!
As for the Pioneer Saloon capacity problems, I have a lot of sympathy for them. You gotta figure with any internet-based event like that, it's a total tossup how many people are actually going to show, however many may initially express interest.
The amount of cash going through that bar that weekend must have been great, the workers could have probably had nice vacations from all the tip money.

Im so glad I visited it a few years ago before it started blowing up. Had some BBQ and a beer and walked around.
I went to the bar a few years back. I had the lady with tattoos serve us and my father told her “you know this place was in a video game?” Meanwhile there was fallout merch just about everywhere.
my great grandparents are buried in the semetary at good springs, i remember going up with my brother and sister when i was little and leaving toys and food on their graves. been doing it in game for the past couple years since i moved out of nevada and havent been back
Wild, what a small form of game media before is such a thriving community now enough to touch outside lives
Also I think we need at least 2 paramedics or at least emts on site at all times. I had to help 2 people that were passed out and hit there head and I think at least 1 of them had a concussion. I tried to stay with them as long as I could to make sure they were OK but I lack the medical training to know if someone has a concussion or is just dehydrated
And a few more places to grab water wouldn't hurt either.
This made me too emotional. All the friends I played New Vegas with are deceased. It meant a lot to share that with them. I haven't even met too many people who know the game irl so this was inspiring and made me smile to see how many people showed up.
😢 I feel ya. Remember and cherish those memories of sharing the love of the game together.
You should consider going next year and continue to share that love of the game with others in the community.

Great stuff, that last power armor cosplayer was jaw dropping. I recall visiting Goodsprings in the early 2010s and just blown away at how surreal it felt. I really wish Bethesda would re-master FO3 and FONV, they really deserve it.

Your videos made me rediscover New Vegas and fall in love with the series in a way I hadn't when I first played the games back on release. I'm sure there are many, many people who feel the same way. This looks absolutely awesome, might even catch me attending next year's!

Although the food lines were a bit long, the wait was worth it for the meals! I had the High Blue Cactus Burger! Along with that, there was so much good conversation to be had on the lines as well! I met so many friendly folks and struck up nice conversations about the game, each others' outfits, and generally wonderful times overall! Many thanks to the kitchen staff for doing everything they could for so many folks!
It would be cool if people like Oxhorn, Naiwal, Kevduit, or Juicehead were at the event next year. It sounds amazing.

Obsidian did a great job incorporating pop culture from Las Vegas and the wild west, making a lasting effect far greater than Fallout 3 or Fallout 4.

I am currently running through Fallout New Vegas for the 4th time and am glad to see that so many others recognize how freaking amazing this game is. Good job getting this festival going and keeping it going through the growing pains. Also, thank you for the dedication to Matthew Perry, he was a hardcore fallout fan like us and it is really sad to see him die too young after such an incredible legacy.
I imagine this November that place is going to be PACKED with all the new fallout fans. I hope they prepare for it!
This was an amazing event with amazing, talented and kind people. This was also my first event/ con. I went as the " Peace by Force" ranger from the contest video. Everyone who loves Fallout should come at least once. I can't wait for next year.

Someone should know someone who runs a foodtruck. Or throw a big grill in a truck with enough frozen meat and set up a bbq for only the price of the meat plus maybe 2 buck extra, so its not greed stuff. You still make 1-3 thousand (probably more at that price)
Back in Sep 2013, I did the Fallout NV tour. I remember going through Goodsprings and when I told the people in the general store what I was doing, they looked at me like I was insane.
I stopped playing video games back in 2015 and had forgotten about it until I saw this video. This is CRAZY! You guys had a festive a decade after I first went there looming like a fool. 🤣

I stopped in the Pioneer Saloon in 2018. It was quiet, only locals were there, but it did feel like I was a lone wanderer stopping by. I got a Sunset Sarsparilla, and enjoyed the moment.
This is the first time I've heard of New Vegas days, and I hope it keeps running annually. That little town is on the map now, and they have embraced it since the game released.

This is so awesome. I feel the love in the video and from seeing all the fans. I’m from Charlotte, North Carolina and have never been that far out west. I may have to grab a few of my NCR Trooper buddies and get out there.

The event was incredible and everyone was so unbelievably kind, it was really fun!
Went to the saloon on both days. Stayed in Vegas with my mom while we went around to the other sites like Primm and Jean. First day was packed but came back for the night. TKs Mantis, you were such an amazing guy in person and very chill, was able to get a picture with you which made my night. The second day I went and discovered the amazing vendors who created so many merch and props, my favorite was HandmadeFallout and the guy who made the replica bottles. The people visiting were just as amazing and pretty cool to talk to or just point out how awesome their costumes were. I hope to come out to this event again!
Good to see people out in rl socializing. I hope to make it to one of these one day
TKs-Mantis, I'd just like to thank you for making these. My friend group and I have only known each other online, as short as 5 years and as long as 12, and we've never met in person. But we're all Fallout nerds, as a group of first time cosplayers we've gotten an AirBNB and are all busy making/building our original characters (insert obligatory _MY OC, DONT STEAL_ jokes) to join in person for this year's event. We never would've had the opportunity if we hadn't all seen and shared this video. Channels like yours covering this event is the only way we would've known. This year is going to be a nightmare due to the show. I want to go. But I fear at least 3 times last years attendance.
The turnout this event brings always makes me worry if the next one would break The Saloon. Because then it becomes another gamble of "is it enough? or is it too much?"
Either way, the atmosphere it brings is more than worth it so far.

I really like how a game that was released 13 years ago still has lots of people talking about it. A perfect western RPG.

i had a fucking BLAST! i came as a member of the Duty Faction from STALKER and the few people who actually knew what i was, loved it! there was a couple that showed me their proposal photos from Pripyat! the wait times for stuff were long but nothing worth complaining about when youre in such a wonderful place! the only (very insignificant) "negative" thing that happened is someone got pissy that i was wearing russian gear. like dude if you were cultured youd know STALKER is not only brothers-in-arms with Fallout, but its from Ukraine lmfao
