In this video you will see how use the section above the 16 white pads. How the pad, keyboard, chords and step functions work.
Happy creating :-)

Your tutorials are excellent! This device comes with no instructions so for a beginner you can imagine the frustration of trying to learn how to use it. Looking at all sorts of videos that are useless at explaining in detail. Good work. This helps.
Thanks Ed and that’s exactly why I did them and glad they help. Still have lots more to come as well 😊
Been two months with my Maschine and still getting used to it. But I'm glad these videos exist. Cheers!
Glad they are helping Por 😊
It sounds like old-school house music we used to listen to out of Chicago in the late 80's and early 90's!!!
thank you so much for these videos - just got a MK3 for Christmas and I am over the moon! been looking for good tutorials everywhere all day!
Excellent Gareth glad I could be of help. I will be bringing the next tutorial out soon 😊
Me too, it’s not easy to get your head around. More help appreciated. Keep them coming good clear videos
Thanks Steve. I will and glad the videos help.
SO helpful man. You explain the device concepts really well. Keep it up!
Thanks Lawrence for the kind words.
Thank you SO much for making these. Just got mine days ago and never used anything like it. Your videos are making a night and day difference!
Hi Gegatso and thanks for the lovely message. I’m really glad these videos are helping and I have more to come 😊
How you finding it 3 months in? I've always liked the idea of making music but have 0 experience/knowledge with anything, was thinking of buying the MK3 but was worried it would be overkill/too advanced for a noob.
Peeg You got it!
ogb0ldsoul a.k.a BillyTheButcha Yeah I picked one up in the end! Figured out the basics but haven't dived deep yet, it's endless, but lots of fun to play with. Recommend it for beginners after all, its fairly easy to get to grips with and start making things, and having it hands on with the controller rather than using mouse and computer is great.
Awesome 😎
Hello dave,
I just bought the mk3 and im trying to learn it as fast as possible, your tutorials are really helpfull keep doing them because your really helping me out here, also i love that you show it the manual way , keep doing what you do!
big love
Thanks for the kind words Thibo. Really glad they are helping and I have more to come 😊
just got mine set up today.. had it about 2months!!!!! loving these vids mate. def guna get me going way i need to :)
2 months? Wow! Great patience lol.
Thanks for the kind words and glad my videos are helping. More to come soon. 😊
Thanks for your videos! There are plenty on youtube, but yours are the best imo.
Thanks J Z that’s very kind of you. Glad you are finding them useful and I have more to come soon.
I have learned so much in just three videos. Onto the next...
Great they are helping 😊
the best teacher on maschine. fact.
Wow thank you Peter that’s really kind of you. Glad you like the videos. 😊
Yeah, seems easier to follow than most out there
Yes I must say you are the best. I understood the working of machine. Without to much deviations from the main subject. Thanks mate.
Yes! Good Simple Fast. Good job Dave. New Fan
Thank you for these videos, they are short and informative.
Thank you Tom
Yeah, I think I'm gonna learn something here, finally .. thanks Dave .
I'm sorta struggling with my Maschine mk3, had it about , meh, little over a month or so
How is it going for you? I’m in the same boat, and I’ve yet to find any beginner tutorials that I can follow. I’ve been desperately searching for months, and no one seems to have produced any primers that explain things clearly and comprehensively, from the very beginning. Even the tutorials that profess to be beginner-level are excruciatingly confusing and frustrating. Good luck with your quest to learn Maschine. I’m nearly ready to give up, I’m afraid. I wish that weren’t the case, but I’m getting nowhere here. Good luck!
Excellent tutorial! Keep them coming!
Thanks Darren and glad they help.
Have my Machine in the post an trying to get familiar with it before it comes . your videos are very helpful keep em coming
Thank you and hope you have fun.
could you do a video on sampling with the maschine ? :)
Absolutely! It’s on my list to do and it will be very soon!
awesome !! very nice simple great explanation !! i like it and i learned a lot. you deserved a like and subscribe
This was awesome!!! Thank you
Thanks for the lovely comment :-)
Thank you !!! Much appreciated on these videos.
You are more than welcome. I have lots more to come. 😊
Hello mate! Thank you very much for this, it definitely helps a lot!
+Sebastian Arany more than welcome and glad it’s helping you. I’ll have more coming out soon.
Thanks for the walkthru! I use the Mikro mk 3 w my Push 2 in a drumrack but this is a great option too!
Great way of doing it. I miss my push 2
Great tutorial but I’d recommend using a piano or higher pitched synth patch so the different pitches and scale can be discerned better when explaining pad and chord modes
Duly noted Paul. Thanks for the feedback. 😊
Thanks a lot, very helpful!
Thanks for the kind words Philip.
Departamento DAVE, thanks for the videos. NI should pay you a salary for doing their job. I bought my MK3 two weeks ago but I didn't understand yet how to edit the patterns um the scene 's screen.
Another good vídeo would be to show how to sample and connecting a turntable, but showing step by step and the cables necessário.
Once again thanks for the incredible videos.
Thanks Marco that’s very kind of you and YES they should pay me a wage lol.
I will be doing that exact video soon. I have it written in to part 9 so hopefully it won’t be too long.
Man that was a thourough breakdown and explanation of the unit. One thing i would love to know if yourself or anyone can answer: can you/are you able to rip audio/bits from any movie/music track, audio or video recording and use in the MK3 with the Maschine software?
Thanks Jack, I hope it helped.
You can but you need to think about how it's routed and set up an aggregate.
I personally would just use something like AIRY and then import it into Maschine to edit.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert ok cool that makes sence, thank you for the reply!
anytime :-)
Thank You! 🙏
As a Newbie, I have a better understanding of the pad mode, keyboard, and cords function. I have to do more work on the step function though
Really glad it helps Steeler 😊
Great job bro
Thank you sir 😊
Very helpful thanks
Thank you man big help 🙌🏻
@DAVE Digital and Vinyl Expert ~ do you have a detailed video on sampling vinyl with Maschine mk3 , and what's the best turntable to buy/use ?
That's one of the main reasons I bought something like my mk3 anyways!
Hi KvK I don’t unfortunately as life got in the way lol 😕
Check out Kit Complete as he does some wicked stuff or failing that I teach as a NI certified specialist.
Turntable wise, what do you want to do with it? DJ or just listen?
hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Much appreciated. My question is how do i take a sound i like from KEYBOARD mode and save it into my PAD mode?
More than welcome and thanks for checking out my channel. Do you mean a specific pitch when in keyboard mode?
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert yes exactly. I'm very new to this so i cant explain my problem well. When one first starts testing out the sounds on pad mode, i switch to keyboard to get different pitches from the original sound. But when i go back to pad mode, it is the original sound that plays and not the pitch i last pressed.
no worries just wanted to make sure I had the issue correct. Once to found the note you like in keyboard mode, go back to pad mode, press the Instrument you want and at the top you will see octave and semitone + and - when you press these you will see on the left hand screen "base note" and voila :-)
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert i just saw this reply and right away i gave it a go! Perfect my brotha. Thanks so much. Greetings from Germany. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you
Awesome and hi Germany (love that place). Happy creating :-)
Is there a way to see the names of the chords? I play let's say Main scale, major harmonized type 1-3-5 pad no1 that happens to be the root, also. I can see the lights indicating what notes are played, but I can't see the name of the chord anywhere. Also in Chord Set mode, I can't seem to have the option to select to play only diatonic chords to the scale highlighted on the pad. Do I miss anything..? A way of figuring this is to actually go on Harmonized, recored the chords one at a time, then drag the midi into LogicPro and check there the names of the chords....they are accurately formed in Maschine, but it's such a pain to figure their names...unless, again, I miss something...Cheers!
Hi Andreea,
Are you talking about in the maschine software?
Excellent cohesive tutorial. I look forward to watching the others. Given that I have 128g on my Mac I notice some clicks and pops and wanted to load the sounds on my Glyph drive. It’s a few years old and has an esata as well as fw400 and fw800. Would you know if loading and running the samples from an external drive, or in this case utilizing an esata to thunderbolt adapter on my glyph would work proficiently? Would love to see a tutorial on creating ones own sample banks.
Thanks Robert for the nice comment and question.
I would say it would work but my main would would be lag. It’s definitely worth a go but without trying it I would say there would be latency because of it.
I’ll definitely add that video idea of yours to the list for this year. Any other questions, comments and ideas are always welcome.
To find group/link you have to hit pad mode after you choose your sound in the browser
Thank you God bless.
thanks for the video, I like how you show the workflow!
can you tell me if there is a way to select all notes in a pattern and change their levels of velocity for example? in the maschine itself.
great tutorl. Just bought mine and im using it for live performances not really beat making. using the groups to store the stems of my tracks. having an issue though when I hit a certain pad it plays the stem on top of each other, then it sounds like 5 drums stems at once, instead of it triggering like a one shot. how do I fix that?
Thanks Jeffrey.
You must have the groups set up the same so they all trigger at once. Change it so the stems are in their own group and that should fix it
Great tutorials, I'm new to Maschine, I have Clips in my scene rather than Patterns - what's the difference & how do I get Patterns rather than Clips? Cheers...
Thanks Simon
This forum might be able to explain it better than me but shout if you need anything else.

How to put specific sound from Keyboard mode (where the pitch is ok for me) to pad mode? I mean Pads, Synth or Drums sounds from Keyboard to Pad Mode. Ex. Specific Kick from one Kit, and specifi Snare from other kit, both to Pad 1 and Pad 2 ?
Your videos are great, so helpful, thank you!
When I go to padmode I only have 1 drum as the bottom left button. Did I miss something?
Also, when I hit the one note in pad mode and then go to keyboard I dont get a scale of that tone its a full drum kit
Thanks for saying Philldo and glad they are helping. It sounds like you are loading a sound/instrument which you can put into keyboard if you wish, but try loading a group then you will have different sounds on different pads.
Let me know how you get on.
? Really that’s strange. Do you fancy sending me a little video of that to dave@digitalandvinylexpert.com and I’ll try and help.
I wish you would do a another video with a better view of the MK3... other than that great job I just wish I could see more of the machine..
Hi Brandon. I have been tweaking them and if you check out the later parts I’ve made the mk3 a lot big. Let me know your thoughts.
Nice
hey man sorry to bother buth why does the screen give me an error that he did not find the plugin?? i really have the plugin
No bother.
That’s weird. Maybe check the native access preferences to see where it’s installed.
you used a bass sound for keys and chords demonstration, use a piano sound so that the difference between the chords or even ovctaves is more prominent
thx for everything
You are more than welcome and thanks for your comment 😊
Hey Dave, thanks for uplaoding all this!
My question here, do you have a video where you show how to donwload a wave file? I have a loop file I want to upload... any help?
thanks in advance
Glad they are of help. I will be covering that very soon. Watch this space.
I love your videos but for some reason I’m having trouble keeping up 😩 any more elementary guides?..
Hi Jack
Thanks for the kind words and sorry it’s not as helpful to you as it could be.
If you are interested I teach for a living and would be happy to set up a private lesson with you to go over the things you need.
Email me at dave@digitalandvinylexpert.com if you’re interested 😊
No if I choose a library file, by double clicking, or dragging it to the group, say A, the volume always seems to reset to almost max, some of the library file are really when they start, I have to press the volume pad to gain access to the volume on the joy stick button to turn it down, why can't we set the global volume to a level for all sounds no matter what we load.?ta
Russell, I have looked all around and can't seem to fin a solution over than the one you said unfortunately. If I ever come across it (if there is one) I will let you know. If you find the solution would you mind letting me know as well please.
Thanks
Thanks for the Video but how can I make pads cut each other off? So that I am able to press the same pad all the time and it cuts it self each time i press it.
Thank you mate
Hi Max thanks for the comment. Do you mean choke itself?
SOOOO HELPFUL
+It's the ANKA thanks for kind words
Dave, is there a way to stop the machine mkiii from being set so loud in volume, when you start a library pre set, I cant find a control to keep the global volume down?any help, I know others will struggle to find the same.ta
I Russell I assume you mean when you scroll through sounds and you get the audition. Yes you can! Bottom left is a speaker with a line next to it and a triangle underneath. Slide that to make the auditions quieter and louder. Hope that helped 😊
Can you use it with ableton instead of the factory software?
So weird you asked that Seth as I’m doing some videos atm for NI on how you can use it with Ableton and other DAWs 😊
DAVE Digital and Vinyl Expert sweet! Guess I’ll have to stay tuned!
Lol definitely.
Seth you may like this and find it useful ua-cam.com/video/0Z1H5nXMgts/v-deo.html
How do I start a new pattern? Im stuck on the default pattern (Welcome to my disco)
Hi William so you have loaded a group? And it has a pattern loaded and it won’t clear?
can anyone tell me how to get my patterns to play at the same time because as soon as i select another pattern the other stops, cheers
Hi Will, are you taking about in the same group or in different groups?
Is there a way to disable the buttons on the maschine? I keep accidentially hitting them while i am finger drumming!
Hi Christopher. You can mute them by holding mute and then pressing which pads to want to silence. Does this help?
Shalom How Do I Copy An Sound Off An Group On To Another Group?I Accidentally Have Two Different Sounds In Tha Same Group,Wanting To Take One Of Tha Sounds An Take It To Another Group. So Both Sounds Can Be In Their Own Group.
Hi Aharon, The easiest way is to hold duplicate, press the pad you want, go to the group you want (still holding duplicate) and then press the pad you want it to go in.
You can always drag and drop using the mouse but this will move it instead of copy. But it's none destructive so you can reload the group and it will go back to normal.
Hope this helps.
Hi,i can't figure it out how to play the Click/metronome .I tried with shift+play and didn't work ..
Hi Alexandru, it’s shift and TAP.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert Thank you !
You’re more than welcome 😊
HI Dave! Whenever i load an instrument from group, i doesn't load any pattern like yours.
That’s weird Jarnard. Let me do a little digging to see if I can’t find out why.
hi dave is there any chance i can contact you in private i need a consultancy regarding traktor and remix sets from NI
Hi Frankie
Of course it would be my pleasure.
Dave@digitalandvinylexpert.com :-)
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert thank you so much for the prompt reply i really appreciate
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpertanyone here has an issue with remix sets not showing data in the browser?
I was not able to make step work....Any way....
This is good but it would have been easier to follow all the key/chord changes if you didn't pick a bass drum and picked a string or horn to show key/scale changes. Keep it up though.
Yeah noted thanks Brant. Excuse the pun.
How to you slave group???
Great tutorial mate. But use a proper sound to demonstrate the chords/notes. All the kicks sound the same. Thank you got a great tutorial. 😃👍🏽
I think it would be better if you flip-flopped the windows, it's difficult to see exactly what you're doing on the (Maschine3).
Also, the money we spend on this - $599. ,plus all the sounds @ $50 a pop. one might expect some better quality instructions.
Hi John thanks for your comment. I agree about the picture in picture and that’s why I changed it in the later videos.
I love your work but just one thing sorry to be a clint,
please stop saying Exxxcetra. Its 'Et Cetera' cheers
Thanks Sean and can I ask for you to stop saying Clint. It’s ‘Cunt’ 😁
Explaining Keyboard mode and Cord mode with a bass drum, it couldn't get any clearer...LOL Why load not up a piano?...Also your MK3 is way over exposed. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial!
Why not use something other than drums to explain the keys, chord and step function. This video could be very confusing to beginners.
