Top 10 David Gilmour Tones | You Can Get Them!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 тра 2024
- David Gilmour has the most complex rigs and it's really frustrating to get the tones we hear in our bedroom and even in gigs. In this video, i've gathered 10 of my favorite tones from David Gilmour and described the rig he used, and gave my point of view on how to capture the tone in our bedroom.
I'm %95 sure when it comes to "original chain", i've used up all the info i could find on the web and i'm %105 sure the rig I show (alternate chain) is going to make you happy, you won't need anything else.

*IMPORTANT*
On the 10th tone, Sorrow PULSE version, YOU MUST HAVE a Boss RT-20 or Dawner Prince PULSE pedal AT THE END OF THE CHAIN (right before the amp). This is A MUST. I don't know where was my head when I edited this, LOL. I just realised after months that i've missed that... One of my favorite tones of all time, you can even see my cover here: ua-cam.com/video/eEn6SuEdyag/v-deo.html

The 2nd solo for Comfortably Numb has the best solo tone I have ever heard!
yes
After a bunch of experimenting with my own gear I've learned that I can get a pretty good tone reminiscent of Gilmour with my EHX Big Muff Pi, MXR Phase 90 and MXR Uni-Vibe and Boss OD-1X and the Lace Sensor pickups on my Strat
I’ve always put my rotary right after the distortion, before the flanger/chorus and I gotta admit it sounds waaay better at the end. Thanks a ton man!!
Nice to see you offer alternatives to recreate those wonderfull emotional sounds Mus !! This video must have been a lot of work to make and I appreciate it !!
Great video. Another good way is with a Line 6 Hx family member. It features all these pedals (except the G2)
I am currently running a helix into a Joyo bluejay and 1x12 with a V30. It sounds epic. I also have a G2 clone which I built in a loop but to be fair you can get the tone with the tube driver.
Going to do a vid soon !
Thanks bro really appreciate ur work
tip for if you want to do a video on any colour you like
the original song didn't use a univibe or a leslie
ive tried both, a univibe is too harsh and a leslie is too subtle
he used an EMS hifli which has a 6 stage phaser on it
the guy who made the EMS hifli also started working with electro harmonix and made the synth pedals and also the small stone and the bad stone.
I've tried a small stone, but it's not a 6 stage phaser. the down mode is too bassy and the up mode is too deep
unfortunately no stores in my area have the bad stone which is actually a six stage phaser with a depth control as well. so im thinking that the bad stone might be the best way to recreate the original any colour you like. that or the MXR phase 100
Love my RT-20, I use it as a Leslie/UniVibe but on a less intense setting it certainly covers most modulation
What’s funny is that I have a mix of Dave’s Boss petals with some of MXR and Mooer petals. I have the Pulse petal and it is amazing at least to my ears. My board is 17 effect strong at this time and I’m thinking about buying a few more to complete my rig. I built a David Gilmour inspired one off Black Stratocaster with his pickups configuration and I have the “Switch” installed too. All American and cost me around $3800 to complete. All I need is a better amp set up because my 93 Fender Princeton Chorus and my newly purchased practice Spark Amp isn’t doing it for me at this time.. Maybe is should put up my guitar build and a show and tell video of my rig.
Buy a Laney. Great amps. I have the L5 studio and Cub 12R.
I’ve got a Marshall origin 50 and a Laney cub 12 and they both do great for this sound and take pretty much any pedal you put in front of them. I like the Marshall a bit more, but that’s personal preference. They cover similar ground. Thinking about selling the Laney for a fender. I use a suhr reactive load IR to tame them while still being able to push the amp a bit and run it into powered speakers or headphones if it’s late at night. That’s a piece of gear that’s been a game changer, and I’ve always been a bit of purist.
If this funky part-echoes-tone works well, you are my hero
lemme know the results!
i have a cover here btw: ua-cam.com/video/KPP9wAX0nn4/v-deo.html
Could you include your best pedal settings for that Sorrow PULSE tone? The holy grail of tone in my opinion 🔥
i've made a video about it a while back, it's on the cards in the video and here: ua-cam.com/video/zGnKI_eljGA/v-deo.html
david gilmour used ge-7 for bass boost, don't forget that, i just used an overdrive to help get the tone, but it's not the chain he used. there was NO overdrive after the big muff in the sorrow chain.
@@mustyguitar Thanks man! Keep it up! Best videos pertaining to this subject by far!
On the Wall he used a 76 electro harmonic flanger .
That’s correct, I couldn’t find the image at the time
Would of love to see "time" from pulse, my favorite solo.
the 4 notes bit is a little off
ive managed to recreate it almost perfectly like this on amplitube
strat on bridge and middle pickup
phase 95. 90 script mode around 12:00
delay 310 ms
amplitube hiamp sim (hiwatt) set at a slight breakup and the amplitube American Vintage D sim (fender dual showman)
hiamp and vintage D cabinets
mics set as far away as you can with fairly high reverb mixed fairly high in the large studio room.
amplitube rotating speaker rack mixed at 50% at a faily slow speed
then for part 3 i add a bd2 going into the phaser because i find that the phaser before the overdrive adds too much gain and you mainly want to use the bd2 to boost the amp into overdrive with the volume knob and set there to be only a little bit off added gain on the bd2
Very Good video, i use Just a delay and a distortion
mother is also a little bit off
the tone he got live was slightly different
strat
electric mistress (not deluxe)
delay
Boss CE-2
hiwatt
yamaha rotary
he actually had 2 hiwatts and 2 choruses that he ran into them last to give them both a stereo effect
Very interesting video! And now I can say “as usual”. I’ve got that delay from TC. And delay is a very special field of David’s guitar tone and flavour. Maybe you could do video about different songs and settings on TC and catalinbread echorec? I’ve got echorec too.
i don't change delay settings actually, i got 2 delays on my board and one is for big muff, overdrive, basically huge sounds, the other for rhythm and clean sounds.
Wow great tones - thank you so much for sharing all this info with us - Do you know an alternative to the Boss RT20?
yeah i think "dawner prince pulse" pedal is the best alternative. actually, it's probably a little better than rt-20
@@mustyguitar yes this looks really good but very expensive isn't there any cheaper alternative to approach that sound
@@oklive4021 well, i'm a believer that you can get good tones with almost anything, but achieving great tones that really captures the sound is a little salty, as it should be...
i've read somewhere that you can use boss ce-2b (yes, bass chorus) with boss ce-2 (or ce-5) together to simulate doppalas. i haven't tried it, but when you think about it, it could work.
@@mustyguitar Do you think that ce-2b would be good alternative for ce-2?
It takes a bit of time, but I find using the MXR Phase 95 (or 45, or 90) stacked with the Mooer E=Lady can get some Rotary-like tones. Closer to what you hear on Animals than it is Gilmour's 80s & 90s tones (I don't really like CE-2 type tones & pedals anymore, not when I use them!).
The Dawner Prince Pulse is expensive! So are used RT-20s. Maybe Boss should reissue the RT-20, Wazacraft
Most musical feel ever 😭
Spend $250 and get a spark amp and you have all of the tones you need
Hey....
That's it... Only for my black strat... Not for red one😊
I dare you to the most impossible tone to replicate, Run Like Hell, the 'Is There Anybody Out There?' album version, best tone for Run Like Hell
Excellent this is and so helpful to every guitarist to shape up Gilmour tones. Thanks as always 👏👏👏 just 1 question, why is flanger not a part of comfortably numb tone???
well, because there wasn't a flanger in the chain :)
