My board is basically the same as yours with the following exceptions….one delay not two, one big muffin not two, I couldn’t find a Boss RT-20 when I was in the market for one so I settled for a Electro Harmonix Lester G. I would still like to get the Hi Power pedal, but next is upgrading my pick ups to EMG on my Strat. Thank you for your knowledge. Much appreciated. Look forward to your videos.

    The Tube Driver does not sound particularly Gilmourish in and of itself. Nor does it sound particularly Eric Johnson-esque for that matter. Has to be used in pretty specific ways with other bits of gear, notably the right amps at just the right volume and EQ setting to get into certain territories. It takes some very precise dialing in to stop it from simply turning boomy and loose in the bass and fizzy on the treble. Also it has a certain sag to the transients that one has to work with to not get a weird delayed feeling on the attacj.

    • @mustyguitar
      @mustyguitar  Місяць тому +1

      you got it! about on the turning away, I didn't do an official tone guide for it, YET. you (or me) most definitely don't need a compressor for the sound, sometimes I use the compressor when the ram's head has lower gain, sometimes I don't use compressor when the ram's head is maxed gain. now, I recorded most of these without an order, so my pedal settings are very different all the time here.

    • @mustyguitar
      @mustyguitar  Місяць тому

      I don't think there's that much difference for me. It's a lot of hassle to move the phaser before dirt pedals. Honestly, these are not that important. Picking hard is important, using the right pedals and settings are important, etc..

    13:36 Can it be that Gilmour double tracked the solo having the delay on, giving the impression that there's a second delay?
    17:45 I think I hear the Leslie in the mix of the solo :P

    • @mustyguitar
      @mustyguitar  2 дні тому

      1) I don't think Time solo is double tracked, I might be wrong too. that's a very interesting question that I want to try at this time of the night.
      2) YES YOU DO, FINALLY SOMEONE NOTICED. I literally, knowingly didn't give that information just to see if someone notices that. the leslie mix is around %10 so, very very little. bravo man.
      this being said, there's no trickery like this in the video that I didn't give info about. that was a one time thing I knowingly did just to see if it's noticeable if I don't mention it.

    • @arlindpec
      @arlindpec 2 дні тому

      @mustyguitar 1) I've also read in Kit Rae's website that probably Gilmour didn't record the solo in one take but he recorded the main pieces separately.
      2) It's too chorusy to not notice hahhahah. Also the leslie can be heard in the fills of the funky part of echoes.

      @@arlindpec yeah that's obvious. it feels like there are a lot of edits. classic gilmour, records 50 takes and uses the best ones :))

      Eq depends on the pedal and the sound you’re looking for. If I set one eq, I need to change the settings constantly. Of course a lot can be improved but I need at least 3 slots for EQ pedals so I can pair them with big muffs, overdrive, harsh overdrive.

      I used charlie brown for a very long time. I still love that pedal. I think I developed a "hiwatt tone" taste and I use hi-power left side instead of charlie brown (I was mostly using it clean anyways)
      I also used muffuletta for a brief period. Great pedal, but I was using one mode of it anyway. It's expensive too. Recommended, but there are better big muff pedals for sure. PastFx Patriarch is a great one. Classic green russian or ram's head are great too.

      No effects pedal can recreate the sound of a Leslie. I've had the opportunity to play a RA-200 and RA-100 for a long time, and no pedal in the world can recreate the physical effect of the Doppler effect. It's great that Line 6 has tried to recreate the sound, but it will never be right. It's still the sound of a digital modeler, which simulates by far what we can imagine.

    MUSTY, your whole pedalboard doesn't even have BK Butler Tube Driver which David Gilmour said on Rick Beato interview that is the main guitar pedal is using various compressor pedals BEFORE the BK Butler Tube Driver which you need to get all of those different types of compressors pedals and a BK Butler Tube Driver pedal to make a video lesson showing the control settings to get those Gilmour tones.

    • @laurentperez5229
      @laurentperez5229 Місяць тому +12

      The aim here doesn't seem to be to try to have the same effects at all costs, but to have "affordable" effects that come close to the sound heard on certain albums. Musty's work is quite remarkable and done with great passion for enthusiasts who don't necessarily have Gilmour's budget. Of course, having a real DR103 or DR504 with Crescendo and Tube Driver/compressor will certainly sound better, but is that really the point? And you don't need to have all your gear to get close to your sound, especially since the duplicates (tube drivers, compressors, etc.) are essentially there to play live with different settings if you don't have midi settings…

    • @mxv3865
