    This eruption is definitely more complicated than the ones in earlier years. Thanks for keeping us very informed Roman.

    This area’s eruptions are so different from Fagradalsfjall eruptions. These ones can cause kilometres long craters to open anywhere, and with little to no warning. I definitely wouldn’t want to be responsible for taking tourists out to see these areas and have something catastrophic happen.
    I know it is bad for tourism income, but safety first.
    Thanks, as always, Roman. I very much appreciate what you do and the efforts involved.

    Thx for all the pictures. I can hardly believe that people are in this lake at blue lagoon. Do they know that underneith there is a magna chamber which can errupt any time? There will be no time to escape they would be boiled in half a minute. Unbelievable!

    • @IcelandExplorer
      @IcelandExplorer  5 місяців тому +2

      Magma doesnt erupt just anywhere...there are no known fissure system under Blue Lagoon. It goes up by "natural pipes" underground.

      Don't be fooled by some fearmongering channels. They are causing damage to tourism in Iceland, specifically a woman based in Canada spreading false information. The recent seismic activity has apparently compacted the ground under the Blue Lagoon, making an eruption there even less likely. The ground is fairly solid to a depth of about 5 kms, lava looks for cracks, fissures and weaknesses in rocks, that's why the eruptions are where they are.
      The main danger is toxic gasses, but that applies to all the communities in the area. And if fast flowing lava tops the BL berm, it could get to the parking lot if they don't manage to close the road in time. But the Icelandic authorities seem to be on the ball as far as quickly building berms and new roads is concerned.

  • @joblo341

    An important point few people mention is that the lava flow on the west and south side of the cone has stacked up to create a plateau beside the cone. To the North and East, the land has not been built up, making the cone appear much taller when viewed from those directions.
    Using the 2023 footage when you talked about tourism is misleading and confusing. It is easy to miss the text, and to understand the impact of it. One spatter cone looks much like the other.
    Losing some tourism is better than losing tourist lives. Maybe they have to limit tourist access

    If there were minibuses or even better 4WD that goes close I would fly to Iceland in June. I did not go in 2021 because of the pandemic. I would have loved to stay in Grindavik. I am glad the goverment bought people's properties so that at least some can start to rebuild elsewhere. The tourism industry should make the most of this event and they could arrange security to shepherd tourists to the volcano, not have to rely on volunteers and the few police,

    The volcano has gotten taller..thus it looks as if the output is less...merely an illusion due to the new size of the volcano. It is still going strong.

    The limitations are to protect the tourists and also to protect the town of Grindavik and the power plant that are both very close. They have to protect the workers who work on the lava dams and other structures. The security and emergency services don’t have capacity to protect everything at the same time.

    Tell the tourists the danger and then charge them the cost if they need rescue, that goes for the guides too and the news media. They know the danger and they pay for rescue.

    I'm interested in knowing what made the previous eruption tourist friendly.
    I'm presuming the toxic gases from this one are the problem, how did they overcome this previously? Reference the videos of people right at the edge of the lava flow, even where it was setting the grass on fire, and there doesn't seem to be anyone wearing gas masks.

    The map of the different flows that have been happening in the area look very interesting….the arms are reaching out to totally surround the Blue Lagoon and the Geothermal plant. The earth is trying to give it a hug … or reclaim it back from the pesky Humans. The Trolls want their pool back!

    • @IcelandExplorer

      No. In Laki fissure was 25 km...here 4 km

    • @davidjohn-no1nx
      @davidjohn-no1nx 5 місяців тому +1

      I have read a certain amount on volcanoes and concerning Laki! In particular it was said there were a number of tunnels connecting to other volcanoes? Is this the case of other volcanoes in Iceland? My favourite volcano has to be Krakatoa but is now The Son of Krakatoa! Do you have any similar in Iceland? That is, a volcano in an island where the island is also the volcano? You have done a great job with your videos and my wife's favourite natural wonder has to be volcanoes! She used to live in New Zealand and visited Rotorua where her uncles used to live so she was really excited! Take care and blessings to you from me and my wife!😀

    Let people go to the eruption...there are plenty of hills around where people can have a trail to to sree the volcano. Why not do that? There are many people that wish to see the volcano..why not let us have this experience?. You promote the greedy Blue Lagoon...give preppie a chance to view the volcano from a nearby hill.?🌟

      Too much bad gas being emitted by this volcano. That’s why it’s closed to the public.
