I moved away from Grindavík in 2021 right after the first eruption (the fun one we all got to hike to). Watching this video unleashed a floodgate of emotions in me, seeing the road I drove every day consumed by lava, seeing the emptiness of the once bustling town square, knowing my friends have lost their homes, and feeling like I'm not allowed to mourn because I was lucky and it was no longer considered "home."
@@JustIcelandicthe height of it at 3.32. It’s not something I’d like to come up against while out driving 😢.The heavy plant drivers certainly earn their wages. Thank you once again for your outstanding footage of the eruption and lava flow. 🙏
Holeeeeee! The depth of the lava is unbelievable! The close up of the people standing in front of the lava edge certainly gave an awe inspiring appreciation of the situation. Thank you Gylfi for another incredible video.
It's now 3 a.m. in Germany, I can't sleep anymore, so Gylfi's new video is just right for me. Happy Sunday everyone. Our crazy country can elect a new European Parliament today. Thank you Gylfi for the interesting pictures about current terraforming. How this "small" lonely excavator struggles against the huge lava area from which the flames are still belching.
This video really gives a very strong impression that at a grand scheme of things, we humans are little more then just observers who hope for the best and often disregard the worst until it is too late.
We are merely spectators to these geologic behemoths. Maybe they can direct the lava away from what has already been built, but in the grand scheme of things, pressure and gravity is the ultimate decider.
indeed. when you see the lava cool off, it is even more impressive. yesterday there was no mountain here, today it's suddenly come downhill and decided it will be here and there's not too much i can to to stop it ...
@johnqsmartypants Not only that the lava will get to the Blue Lagoon eventually, not a matter of if, but when? After all, it is sitting on top of lava, that's what's heating it! We may deflect it for a while, but not forever! It's inevitable!
Thank you Gylfie. Watching the fixed cameras gives you have no idea how much, and how high, the lava is flowing! Icelanders are amazing people. Awesome work ethic. Great video as usual. I pray they manage to keep the lava at bay

Just beautiful, in a somber and awe-inspiring video. Perfect music for the mood, and you told a powerful story even without narration. I hope those intrepid heavy equipment operators have protective breathing gear, a big pay raise, and medals for bravery. Thank you, Gylfi!
A great video which really demonstrates the sheer scale of this eruption. The lava flows are far higher than I thought based on other footage. It also gives one a sense of the geography of the area and the proximity of Blue Lagoon, the power plant, both now cut off, the various interconnecting roads and the isolation of Grindavik. Excellent stuff ! 😊
Amazing! The machines looks so small compared to the mass of lava. It's impressive they have managed to battle the lava for so long this way. I wonder what it's like to work the machines in these conditions.
Wonderful footage - thank you for documenting these amazing geological changes, and for pointing out the societal effects too. My heart aches for everyone affected by these events. Stay safe, Gylfi. 😊
Great drone footage and I really like the speed at which this was done at. Gave plenty of time to take it all in without it all just disappering too quickly. That is one massive wall of Lava. I'd love to see footage of them cutting and digging through the Lava to make another road to the Blue Lagoon.
Thanks Gylfi. You do fantastic work. The view of the crumbling cooled lava with the glowing red underneath reminds me of my youth when I would shovel coal into our home heating furnace and see a similar sight as it burned under the fresh coal. Even though it was hot, it wasn't 1000 degrees C.

Welp, not quite yet. If you look closely in the video, the lava is already a little bit higher than the wall, which is why some of the rocks were spilling into the wall, causing fires. Just imagine that another quick flow like this one occurs again, it will spill all the way into the wall. So the lagoon is not safe.

Whoa - that lava flow is HUGE !!!! I wondered what the excavator was doing - it makes sense to try to stop the moss igniting !!!!! Your films are just awesome - please do more.
The work the folks running the heavy equipment are doing, is dangerous and admirable. I hope they all stay safe. Great footage as always, this really gives some insight into how much the powerplant and blue lagoon are in danger.
OMG - at 0:15, we see how truly MASSIVE these flows are, on a human scale. And yet, the Icelanders go forth to do battle against what must at times seem like insurmountable odds. Thanks so much for sharing your imagery, and may God bless the people of Iceland in their ongoing battle against Mother Earth's unbelievable power.

Man, that‘s an amazing demonstration of men fighting against nature.
The situation in Iceland has almost completely disappeared from the news channels.
Thank you for the overview. That is a thick layer of lava. It may be slow moving, but it looks unstoppable. Hope the flow stops in time.
Very well done, the views and the music, thank you. Astounding how the diggers work in the heat and gases. Certainly someone has pondered building parallel rows of dijks?
Whoa - that lava flow is HUGE !!!!
I wondered what the excavator was doing - it makes sense to try to stop the moss igniting !!!!!
Your films are just awesome - please do more.
New one already :)
There are so much benefits from living in a volcanic area like clean energy and heating but it can be hard, too.
Love how resilient islanders are!
A very fine video, one of your best. The somber music is perfect while watching the workers facing a monumental task
The work the folks running the heavy equipment are doing, is dangerous and admirable. I hope they all stay safe. Great footage as always, this really gives some insight into how much the powerplant and blue lagoon are in danger.
Thank you for this video log, Gylfi. Truly awesome. ~Wendi UK 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you, Gylfi, your videos always give perspective to these events.
Glad you like them!
Just goes to show how it all builds up and what you think is just a low level flow can be 10+ metres high.
wow thank you Gylfi, didn't know i was waiting for this so much and now really glad! Hoping for the best!
I hope so too!
Just wow! 😮
Welcome
The much abused word "awesome" takes on it's original meaning and dignity here.
I was thinking the same thing.
DIGNITY! Ty. Just the word I was searching for.
Great photography as always and I especially liked the background music you selected. Bless Bless
I just watched this for the 2nd time. Gylfi, you’ve created a masterpiece of art. So emotionally powerful. For those of us who have been following Shawn Willsey’s coverage, you needed no narration to explain what you show in the video. It’s just a perfect combination of video and music and truth-telling. Takk fyrir, from Minnesota, US, where many Icelandic heritage communities still exist from immigration times.
Wow! Amazing video!! Thank-you so much for posting.
This large lava flow came from the remaining cone? It must have really had a big output to create that huge lava flow. I just can't wrap my head around it. Thanks, Gylfi. Always appreciate your videos.
Wow - just stunning! Such an amazing perspective at 0:13. Thanks for bringing all this to us, and for documenting and updating us on the on-going, ever evolving situation with these series of eruptions.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing guys.. Love the videos!! Videos..Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Wow! Stunning video and solemn music, quite moving! I especially loved the shot of the flow over the highway with the red lava still glowing inside. It’s like it’s still alive. 😮🔥 🌋. Thanks Gylfi, I look forward to each one of your videos!
Thanks a lot for this awesome video. Since I witnessed the Litli Hrútur volcano erupt last summer, I've been watching your videos to check on the latest developments in the area and what they mean for the Icelandic population. I'm grateful for your excellent videos and reports. Best wishes from Switzerland! 🙏
