Lmao'ing my ass off at yall who complain it's not a story music video. La Dispute explicitly wrote a story and yall can't even imagine it in your heads. The majority of music videos aren't just showing images of what's exactly going on in the song. In fact, music videos are another medium meant to complement the song. I mean, do we really need to see a woman reading a book when he says he sees a woman reading a book? As much as I hate interpretive dancing, I feel like the dancer depicted the emotions of the song appropriately.
Nowheremovies "Laughing my ass offing my ass off" Made me giggle.
"And I pause where I am for a second when I hear your name"
Shit's to real dammit
Green Lover It hurts so bad
Sometimes I get jealous of people who have yet to hear this song ... to get that feeling that you just experienced something so beautiful, so intimate, so heartbreaking. So relevant. And although I still feel such a range of emotion when listening for the one millionth time, that first time is unforgettable. It's literally a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
woman (dancing)
+1
its about a women reading lol
woman (spinning)
woman (making spaghetti)
The most beautiful thing on the internet
+Howsenselessdeath Howpreciouslife omg you are the best youtuber!! love this band because of you xx

I love you Ana 🌻
Oh my gosh hi 💙🌻
i come back here when i want to give up
you are not alone with that. ❤️
me too.
Same dude
I just found these guys sm1 told me about them fucin awesome
That’s why I’m here, 552am
I still can't get over how good this song is after all these years.
This song reminds me of my grandma. Everytime I went to her house, I'd either be cooking with her, or watch her do stuff like crocheting or reading. She's not gone yet, but it seems like everyday we're losing her piece by piece and it hurts.
such a completely destructive song for my soul
I live alone now.
Also Converge is the shit.
it's like three different mediums of art put together. film, dance, music/poetry.
Cool:).
It was always between 'Woman (In Mirror)' and 'Woman (Reading)' for my favorite song on the album, but this clinches it.
This being La Dispute's first music video, it really surprised me by how well it turned out.
"For Mayor in Splitsville" and "Such Small Hands..." had videos too :)
Oh I never saw the music video for For Mayor in Spitsville good call! Unfortunately the video for Such Small Hands wasn't official, if you go to the account of the person who posted it you can see it is nowhere near that of someone La Dispute would want to release their Music Video. I think he took a video found on their blog and posted it on his own channel.
I'm so glad they decided to make a music video for this song. This will always be one of my favorites from them. The transition from slow to fast will always be my favorite part.
This has been my favourite song on the album since day 1 and I feel like this video just compliments it beautifully. It's together and everywhere all at once, just like I imagine this song. Her dancing is so unique and gorgeous and the way the music fits around it is stunning.
It's 2018 and i have this on repeat in honor of my late mother. Beautiful song.
This is such an amazing music video, it goes so well with this song. The song itself is more of a minimalistic piece, describing small moments with this woman in great detail, as if simplicity is perfection. The same goes for this dance and all the scenery. The woman is dressed in very casual clothing, and the choreography of the dance is very natural and uncomplicated. No frills, no special techniques, but still just as passionate. The woman isn't presented as especially gorgeous (even though she is); the sceneries are the most breathtaking pieces, yet the woman is still the center of attention, bringing this natural life to every scene. From the rich forest to the bustling cities, the woman's presence is elaborating on natural beauty. The whole point is aesthetic minimalism, and it seriously moves me. This one will be hard to forget.
You just completely put my exact thoughts into words. Wow. Thank you 💜
write a book, you have a way with words
Thank you!
Addie Mitchell You're amazing.
Very well put. Beautiful words!
Everyone perceives these songs in a lot of different ways. I find it smart. In a way of how the woman is moved in different areas yet doing the same thing. dirty hands. exploring at one point. Its a message in its own way.
if this doesnt play at my funeral then i'm not dying >:c
how i think i look when dancing to this in my room:
how i actually look when dancing to this in my room: flailing fish in a mosh pit
it is actually the only description of love how i feel it that had ever existed and will ever exist
la dispute became so much to me, as i told them once and i wonder if they heard me so i'll go saying this and feeling this for all the time they exist as the only ones who _get it_
спасибо
first time i heard la dispute was 2012 and i’ve forever been hooked. finally got to see them live 2019
life changing.
sometimes i think 'i see your face in improbable places'
The entire world is a dreadful collection of memoranda that she did exist, and that I have lost her!
I'm not a big fan of dances, dancing and/or choreography in general, but I really loved this video. It's beautifully filmed, the dance and the shots definately compliments and even elevates parts of the song.
La Dispute just gives me this happy feeling inside every time I hear them.
hope duncan Same. Which is bizarre because it’s usually so cripplingly sad.
I really like this! I think the choreography infuses really well with some of the feelings behind the narratives at times, although in places it's maybe a little but clunky. Over all though I think it's pretty great-- Julie Ann Minaai was fantastic and La Dispute never cease to make gorgeous, enjoyable art.
La Dispute - Woman (Reading) lyrics
You in the living room
You on a Tuesday afternoon
A breeze seen when the curtains move
You by the window with both feet up on the couch
Where you sit and you read and I watch you
From the office the sunlight frames your silhouette
I think of lighting fireworks, I think of pirouettes
I idly write down observations on the scene
Like do the blueprints name the rooms alone?
Do we name them on our own?
We hardly live in there
You with a book propped on your knees
A breeze seen in your coffee steam
I’m in the office thinking back to rules of poetry
It’s fourteen lines, the last two rhyme, what does pentameter mean?
You in the living room
Legs bent at forty-five degrees
I write AB AB, try to find your rhyme scheme
I look for objects on the desk with which to sculpt your image best
What would I name this could I paint it “Woman (reading)?” “Girl (at rest)?”
I remember it so well watching you shifting your weight, turning the page, I can see it all there
Inside a living room where only I live and never go in
A role in name alone
And I pause where I am for a second when I hear your name
Sometimes I think I see your face in improbable places
Do those moments replay for you?
When I’m suddenly there and then won’t go away
When you’re sitting in the living room reading for the afternoon
Do you put your book down look and try to find me there?
Sometimes I think of all the people who lived here before us
How the spaces in the memories you make change the room from just blueprints
To the place where you live
When you leave here
When you go from a home
You take all that you own but the memories echo
On hardwood floor in the living room
Tore the carpet the scratches below that we found
And the wine stain on the couch
We got drunk and decided we’d still try to move it around
And I can’t tell what the difference is between the ones that we made and the ones that we didn’t make
They all conjure images still
Where you sit and you read in the sunlight aware that I watch
And I live alone now
Save for the echoes
I live alone now
Save for the echoes
Jello Is Ok That last line...omg it just cuts like a knife.
Thank you for writing the lyrics for us.
Golly I love this band. You know you wait years for a band to hit you like you were a kid? Well these guys change the post hardcore rules and make works of genius. And Pianos Become The Teeth too. Music all kinds of worth it after all. I cannot believe how good this band are. Tell your friends.
I feel like her dancing almost seems violent and consistent, like she's fighting something. I think (at least for me it feels like) it represents how people have to absorb themselves in something in order to cope, and how someone immerses themselves in something in order to deal or even ignore the pain. This is how our bodies fight our minds. That's what it looks like to me.
at first I wasn't a big fan of the video, thinking something that would directly relate to the song would be better, and then as I watched this over and over I realized how beautifully it works with the song. Their songs always project such unique and detailed images and stories already we don't need to be supplied with one visually. The movements, lighting, and general video-ography is breathtaking and inspiring and I am absolutely in love with this music video.
Hands down best song off the album and probably my third favorite song by the band.
This is gorgeous!
i'm still waiting for that king park music video
8 years later... Still waiting 😭
such a great dancer!
I have no idea why I was expecting something generic. Love this..they never fail to surprise and open my eyes. Beautiful raw song.
i dont think i've ever heard jordan actually sing until now, sounds fucking great. such a talented band
The sun dial bridge!! I loved this song and the video was amazing
those match cuts get me going
THIS is their best song.
This gets me feeling all of the feels. La Dispute, please release a new album that will haunt me and I'll love it.
This is the greatest hidden gem of our generation, la dispute has the most beautiful melodies and some of the best lyrics the songs are so well made. Like listening to a short story
La Dispute is the nicest thing I've ever had anyone give me.
This is beautiful video, absolutely, but...
I recall listening to this song over, and over, and over, mouthing the words, seeing in my head the story. Probably my favorite song on Rooms of the House. I even made a few visual art pieces inspired by this and Woman (in Mirror). Perhaps this is just me, but this is not what I imagined. A video that played along with the storyline would have been beautiful, touching.
Still love the emotive dance. A exquisite blend of mediums indeed.
The first time I watched it I was so confused and didn't really appreciate the beauty of this video. Every movement is so perfectly timed that it clearly is meant to evoke pathos. This is unfathomably powerful. It's hard to believe that a woman dancing can be so cathartic but it truly captures the essence of the song. Amazing!
lol at all the people complaining about whether or not this video fits. La Dispute wrote the song, they know the meaning, they approved the video, obviously it fits
ugh i can't even begin to describe how much i love la dispute
One of my favorite songs of all time, i listen to this song like it’s fentanyl and I’m an addict like holy shit
Looks like I wasn't the only one who didn't see interpretive dancing coming. Very interesting to show the same dance in all these different places though. Seems like the simplicity of the imagery leaves you to hear unsung lyrics about causality. Fitting in nicely with -"How the spaces in the memories you make change the room from just blueprints
To the place where you live"
I love the movement from 1:09-1:15
this woman has a beautiful way of moving!
I was so startled when she began to dance, lol
I love it.
every time i hear this song its like the first time
Favorite on the album 😻
I didn't know you liked this band Lauren ^~^
I've been in love since the first time I heard King Park
I’ll never forget seeing this live
Man.. this album meant so much to me in my late teenage years. I fell away from it for awhile but recently decided to show it to my girlfriend. Ive rediscovered my love for, not only this song, but the album in its entirety. This album once meant alot to me in learning the reality of losing the interest of a girl i loved at the time. Now this album means just as much to me but for much different reasons. The materialism of being an American adult and how we base our well being on our objects we collect and asign meaning too becomes so somber when your moving around and deciding what ‘memories’ are worthy of remembering. Rooms of the House now, for me, is helping with existentialism and lingering depression. Thank you La Dispute for making such a beautiful timeless piece. I dont even wanna guess how many times ive listened to it all the way through.
I'm not surprised at how artistically comprised this is
Masterpiece!
I’m a terrible emo, why am I just discovering you guys in 2020?!
Late this but HOPEFULLY because you're young! If you're older, then you've been missing out!!
Ikr! My sister has been a fan since 2012 but I only decided to listen to them this year 😭 I’ve been missing outttttt
This literally makes my heart feel heavy.
I was not expecting this video to go with this song but I really love it
This song makes me want to break down and cry.... Memories flood my head
So is "La Dispute" a genre now? Who started whatever genre this is? I love it.
Fuck dude, why is La Dispute such a powerful band? Someday I'll probably be in the right mood to cry to their music. I already come damn close listening to them per usual.
The dancer just keeps me mesmerized and I hate, but love it all at the same time.
This is a song I will never tire of. Fucking love this band.
In all my years of listening to La Dispute can someone tell me why I’ve never heard this song up until now?? I mean this is just.. wow
edit: im jealous of you little past me

it just touches this soft point which i always hide and most people think that it does not even exist in me.

Just one word: Beauty. This video is just way too beautiful (for me) + the song...
