Install a cloakroom toilet: part one

- In this video I am installing a "Cloakroom Toilet". There was a space between the stairs and kitchen so my daughter asked about a down stairs toilet! She didn't want a saniflo but, a full working flushing toilet. I said, we can put a new drain through the kitchen and connect it to the outside soil stack. In this first video I am putting in the drains toilet!
You can literally buy a core set from screw fix for about £70 u already have a drill, that would of made that hole looks a million times neater and no need for replacing bricks and loads of mortar slashed in it after
Just think a few issues should highlighted to those thinking of doing the same. 1) The new length of soil pipe should be accessed for rodding. Using a bend with rod access would have easily made that possible. 2) Burying water pipe connectors should always be avoided, especially plastic push fit 3) Push fit elbow fitting under the slab isn't a good idea, they can and do fail which means the floor coming up again 4) Building control must be involved with change of use of room in this way, and they must see evidence of correct construction including fall.
He mentioned nothing about how to establish the correct fall on the waste pipe!
If you ever bury water pipework in a screed, hot or cold, and it is not easily or readily accessible by removing the surface covering it must be ducted with no fittings. Last thing the homeowner will want is that speedfit elbow to be leaking in the floor. You can get pipe-in-pipe for this purpose, if it's not in a chase etc. Water Regs cover all this, the amount of leaks I've been to where a builder did the plumbing, to a kitchen island or wherever the last 10yrs is unreal. So are the prices to cure usually.
Is it just me or is it strange that he just made good with screed? I'd have thought concrete first, for structural strength then screed for finish?
If you can do such a good job without a core drill imagine what a goog job you would do with a core drill get one on Christmas list.
Hey mate music ls too loud can’t hear what you are saying
Nice job. How much would a job the same as this be so i can get an idea from my builders? Thanks
I am in a same situation
This is how not top do it ! builder should have stopped at the trench work & and got a pro in to do the pipework!
I've watched loads of videos about installing a w/c and this one is really straightforward and helpful. Thanks Chris for taking the time and effort in making it and helping me and others. Top man !
Tanx for the upload looking forward to part 2 👍
Done the same kind of thing in me own house. Handy enough but hard work when you do it all yourself but well worth it..keep the videos coming big man..and keep her lit
Currently doing this job for our new bathroom! This video has given me the confidence to do it myself. Cuts complete, part way through break out, but the hardcore under the concrete pad is extremely hard so I need to hire a breaker!! Looks like you got off lightly on the break out. Top job.
Fascinating. We will be doing some work to our home in the near future and that includes a downstairs toilet. We have the same external black flush pipe thingy and this has just given me hope that it can be done with relative ease!
Really this job is not the best or right way. But this dude looks honest and hard worker .keep it up mate !!
I’m only a DIY’er, but to me, job done, well done. 👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
Good work 👍
Would be nice to see the rest of the job completed, i.e toilet in, etc. 👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
Hey very interesting...been thinking about a down stairs toilet..thought I needed a saniflo, this seems the way forward. thanks for the share bud..😀
