- We are fitting a toilet on this build so needed to tap into the sewer.
Its a clay pipe so needs cutting with the angle grinder.
We drop in a new inspection chamber and run the plastic soil pipe towards the garden room
Keeping it real pal, not editing out the curve balls. Getting stuck in and getting it done, brilliant!

I’m in third person mode, I’m asking myself , because I’m confused as f**k, initially I measured it, it all looked good, then it turned to sh*t in a second, keeping the fails as well as the triumphs 🤣

Glad I watched this. I need to tee into a clay pipe and was thinking how I would be able to slide the new tee piece into position with the rubber adapters in place but it seems if you put the adapters on the tee first, slide the rubber adapters all the way back, it should go in easy, great!
Good video, was manly looking how you get you base in between with minimal cut length of original pipe, sliding the adaptor back and forth like a slip coupling, that's what I came for !!! Brilliant
Nice job 👏, next time you should try a chain cutter. Very simple to use, really quick & no dust 👍. Also really good on cast iron 😉

When you were making the second collar ready the whole clay pipe appeared to be moving, which would indicate a fracture further along, or mortar had come away from a join.

Great vid Liam. I’m a plumber and a bit worried about the insulation you used, it looked like the grey stuff you use in the loft. That can absorb rain water then freeze when saturated. If you used something else then that’s good, ignore me and tell me to get lost 😄

I reckon the block paving will sink over time where its been up, always do when going on backfill. Did you manage to get a compacter on the backfill? Looked a bit tight whack down to be fair. Not end of the world if it did settle down, just have lift up sucken areas and top up sub base.

I would always be concerned connecting in to a drainage run before the ‘combined’ drainage starts. Falls for surface water can be shallower than foul. I would of also put a sond down the pipe with a CAT scanner to locate depth - this would mean you wouldn’t dig any unnecessary holes. Wouldn’t be keen on the bends prior to the chamber. I would probably duct the water pipe and insulate if running shallow - this would help protect it when compacting when backfilling so close to the surface
9.34 that bends had it mate,to much movement in it when you was pulling collar off. No way that will hold up in a drain test. Best off taking it back to the next solid bit of pipe. 👍

Also, it looks like the upstream clay pipe is a smaller size? That rubber connector the wrong size?? Just heard him say he was going to bed on post mix???
Also the adjustable bend into the chamber is shocking, so acute looks like it goes back on itself!
Spot on that! Just don’t take the lube in the house, the wife might get some ideas!!

It is alright apart than sliding upvc pipe into clay. That is a big NO. Over time that grim will allow movement on the rubber seal with clay and guess what? They will have to call someone else to repair the bodge job. That is why you use the rubber seal reducer mate.

Why is it before you clamp in rubber joiners that I hear sand grinding as you turn it in??? Don’t you clean out all your joints with water ? This would make for a far better , long- term seal????? I’ll never understand any build where people entomb rubber! You and I both know rubber WILL eventually deteriorate. I’ve seen a lad rod a soil pipe with his mums window cactus plant tied to a mop with a wire coat hanger!
Whenever I do a job ,I always have the mindset that whatever I do must last as long as the house. Our house is 109 years old and the drainage is as solid as the walls.... and the walls ain’t going nowhere !!!

A pain to ever remove & it expands quite a bit while curing in my experiance.

If the manhole was closer, could you tap in directly into the manhole without permission. If no is the case who would i seek permission from. Cheers for any advice given.

How much should this cost to get done by a plumber ?
Thought water pipes had to be below the frost line which is 650mm?
That copper pipes only 6” in some places, still going strong
water regs is 750mm, but can be shorter if insulated like they have in this case
I have had hot and cold pipes put into mine that I'm building. They are 750mm deep in a 4 inch duct which is fully insulated too. Overkill probably but still.
We used a lot of the Y joints for connecting drains,, there's only 1 problem with them, especially using them with toilets, they snag toilet paper,, and not just a bit.. We've even used them at home building our own house,, and they are a nitemare..

There’s a cavity under the floor in the house, we’ll be going in under the dpc level
Waterpipes should be 650mm below frostline... REGS 🤔
Power cable should be 600mm down and the hot water will be drawn cold when it gets there🤭

Sorry mate bit confusing with ya interpretation of combined fow l& rainwater, You ran the kitchen sink with dye, then flushed the loo, that dont tell you its combined system, all ya grey water goes into same fowl pipe which picks up main sewer, its the rainwater gulley that you need to check of it goes into fowl, if it does then thats the combined system.
He pointed to the gully that had downpipe 👍
Those water pipes are not deep enough for frost protection.

Another geat video! Are there any considerations of running a gas pipe down for a larger outbuilding with its own boiler? This is to power the in-screed hydronic underfloor heating. Cheers!
I agree with @MrQuasar1958 regarding a day not learning is a day wasted. I am currently isolating due to having covid so what can I do?!?! Watch William Griffin on You tube all day :-) (although I do have to watch some in another room to my 7 year old ("what the **** have I done there?" has to be out of earshot!!).
It is magic to see how different you work now compared to your early videos (hand saw to cut the frame, cut outs of the flooring rather than cutting the frame for the nuts on the piles).
One of the early videos though was a garden room with a store room on the side/rear (january 2019 labelled garden room). Next time you have a job/project where you are splitting rooms, could you detail what you do please? I guess the garden room part is as normal (OSB, insulation, vapour barrier, plasterboard), but then the store room part, is that just fully OSB without any insulation?
No mate, we always fully insulate incase they make it into one room in the future, you’ve reminded me about how we have changed our methods over the year, everyday is a school day, thank you for being their from the start. It’s comments like this that keep me pushing forward and past the haters. I’ve never once said, this is the way it must be done! It’s simply how we do things , again thank you and anyone reading this for your support 😇

I've used them, they are stainless steel.
The 2 short orange pipes you fitted first. Could you not solvent weld them in?
They have a rubber seal in the socket which is designed to receive the pipe. No solvent weld required, just clean the pipe, lube up and then push it in.

alright Liam, great videos (cant get enough). I am planning to build my own garden room and will purchase a build pack when ready to go. I fancy putting a shower and toilet in my build, therefore will have to tap into the sewer drain. Do you need planning permission for this.
Probably need to get building control to inspect it but not sure really, did you find out? I'm planning a garden room and would like a toilet, possibly shower as well if possible

Cnsl using food dye why don’t you buy some drain dye? 😂 also you should invest in a CAT to check for utilities below ground before digging, last thing you want is a cable strike lol and would of made your digs quicker to use a sonde to locate your pipe

I have a petrol saw with the grinder blade on it has the water attachment on it...., can you cut in clay pipe with that or is it better to use a small grinder??
You need to dig more out if using a petrol saw mate, we very rarely do this kind of work so the angle grinder suits us tbh
