How many people have removed the trap and then emptied the contents into the sink? I know I never have!

Suggestion re old sink is to set it up outside with water / drain connection. Very handy for washing paint brushes, plant pots & even the dog (though you might want to bring out some warm water for the poor ol dog!)

Drainage would be tricky and we had room for a sink in the utility in the end. 👍😁

Great little mini series in the making Andy. I invested in a laser level & a tripod last year. It has come in handy for all sorts of stuff from hanging pictures to laying T&G & building shelves in the loft. Not too expensive now either. I'm eagerly awaiting part 2 now.

Nice to have this mini serie been started, One of the things I will have to tackle later on is also a new toilet downstairs and revamping the utility room, with new walls and everything.
I had to smile when you talked about dead legs in your water pipes and how dangerous they can be.
Without knowing there was a 22mm diameter and 12m long dead leg in my water pipes.
I always considered that pipe as doing something.
But recently, because I want to relay all piping, I was figuring out wat all pipes do in the basement, I did this by closing the isolation valves one by one and then checking which taps got no water.
But strangely enough with this pipe isolated I still got water on all my taps and toilets in the house.
So I followed the pipe where it came upstairs and it went into a massive wall, but didn't come out on the other side. Scraping some plaster away around the pipe didn't reveal a sign of the wall being slotted and the pipe going anywhere.
So I removed some plaster on the other side of that wall, and it was fairly thick in one place, there I found the dead end of the pipe capped off!
It had been like that at least from a couple of years before I bought the house in 1996, but probably has been so for 40 years.
That was when a swimming pool had been taken out behind the house to build a commercial space behind, and this large diameter pipe probably was used to fill up the swimming pool.
Luckily that water never made me ill, and now I removed this leg.

JG Guest make blank plugs for their push in fittings. I'd take the semi redundant pipework out and put the blank plugs in until I needed to connect the pipework again. Keeps the area clear of clutter.
I started using JG Guest years ago, because it is so easy to redo the pushfit joints. That cheap grey stuff is awful in comparison. I'd much rather pay the extra.

Hi, Many thks as Yet another very well put together and informative video, wouldn’t believe it but I’ve been trying to work out how to build something very similar ref that plastic tray shelving unit , have a space under my workshop 1300mm wide and wondering have u ever done a video or intend to with regards to building that shelving cupboard plse , did get some plastic trays measuring 600mm deep,x 150mm high x 300mm wide , intend to use some 18mm , MDF along with either biscuits or pocket hole and never used these before , bought a trend biscuit cutter and a kreg pocket hole jig , don’t know if there any good and which one to use to make the shelving cupboard , also thinking if I should get some dowel drill bits to put solid dowels in where the door hinges will go as in if it will give me a stronger fixing , sorry I’m waffling , lol, many thks as always , can’t wait for the next episode and still uncanny seeing that plastic tray cupboard , can’t thk u enough as really do enjoy ur fantastic content of videos , all the best

Nice one Andy, not sure if I’ve missed you mention but does a room that contains a dryer and washer need an extractor fan 🤔 it’s another grey area I suppose as it will not be really a utility I suppose, but I’m not sure weather bc would still want a fan fitted 🤔

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  Рік тому +1

Sink or "water vapour in significant quantities" was the original requirement, but modern tumble dryers etc. don't release any water vapour at all. But we have a sink so we needed one regardless. Bit pointless but we put one in anyway. 🙄👍

Is the wall in a "utility" needed between the WC / WHB. Could one have the WM/Dryer in the same room , if desired. (I tend to like walls, something to hang artwork on, but they do take up floorspace)

The only people who like the Yankee's are are New Yorkers and it about only half of them and people who live in other countries. Being from Minnesota I would suggest a Minnesota Twins hat.
