    What ever happened to the America I once knew??? This type of music exactly reflects the spirit and culture we once had! Simply classy!

      Jane this shame is global. It , I think relates to the media . This music just is not marketed. Therefore it is known only to the small group of inquisitive listeners. The fact remains that there are only 2 kinds of music. Good and bad . Thank you . Peter

      This jazzy cover is nice, but the Jackie Gleason chart expresses the true intention of the song. I recommend a listen...

    Another gem from this great orchestra and the versatile vocalist Matt Ford. Good to see how much the players show their enjoyment as does John Wilson. A real foot-tapper for the rest of us.

    Unmistakable Nelson Riddle arrangement. A swinging interpretation of a very melancholic song.

      We have seen this Orchestra live many times, sadly no more as JW has now moved on to the Sinfonia of London, we went to see them play last November. Quite a number of the Musicians are the same. Someone else to look out for is Callum Au, he is an arranger/composer/trombonist and has played for John Wilson. Have a look at this link, you may notice some musicians are the same as in the above orchestras ua-cam.com/video/LeCPDW0Pobo/v-deo.htmlsi=G_fy-uBBESOH8mGp

    Fabulous Riddle arrangement. Mr Sinatra himself would have been proud to perform with this orchestra!

    Very good performance, but this is an intimate and tragic song, I don't think you can do a spectacular version like that.

    This is one of the most poignant, heartbreaking songs ever written -- it's about alcoholism and where it takes you. I just don't see it as a big band swing number. It's not about gusto and the good life. It needs the haunting french horn at the beginning in the original version. Still and all, a great sound, though.

    • @Jo-un6es
      @Jo-un6es 2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely. Even with all the deep thought Mancini put into the song. Nelson Riddle could somehow turn something so riddled with dark undertones into the complete opposite.
      Both men are Geniuses.

      A curious mis-step by Mr. Sinatra for all the reasons you cite, but it is a great Nelson Riddle chart.

      Inasmuch as the song is about the loss of love it is melancholy. On the other inasmuch as the speaker had in his life a love so wonderful there is reason for joy. So I don’t want to rule out the Sinatra approach to the song. Having said that I prefer Peggy Lee’s sadness tinged recording.
