Honestly, if mettle required 2 protective hits without the restrictions? I'd be honestly fine with it, just make the deep wound timer on it really bloody low.
As a solo player, old MoM was great beacause you could avoid death for a while if your teammates were foolish enough to unhook you as soon as you got hooked or if they didnt have borrowed time which was rare. Back then, I ran a Borrowed Time MoM combo to guarantee my friend and I could get out. When it was just me it was my crutch perk for sure. Nowadays it's harder to pull off especially in solo play but when I get it to trigger it's definitely earned.
i cant remember correctly, but wasnt there a time where getting hit while a survivor was being carried didn't count as "protection hit" or not count a hit for metal of man while a survivor was carried?
Long time ago, protection hits when a surivivor was carried by the killer used to have a long cooldown (if i remember correctly 20 seconds, now it’s 3 seconds. This means that even if you tank 2 hits before the 20 sec MoM didn’t stack)
Heres how id buff Mettle of Man: "After taking 2 Protection hits, Mettle of Man Activates. Press the active ability button to gain Armor. The next time you are hit, the Armor breaks, causing a 30 second Exausted status effect. Once used, the perk will become inactive for the remainder of the Trial." Unlike Dead Hard, itd only activate once a trial, youd still have to play altruistically, just not at the cost of possibly 2 hook states. (3 Protection hits means you either went down for someone and got injured again, or you got hit and healed back at least twice for someone) Itd be the Delieverance of on the fly second chance perks, however you couldnt combo it with Balanced Landing, Lythe or Sprint Burst (at least not while Exausted is in effect)
mettle is now another very situational perk. i am using it, or more like WAS using it mainly for archive to farm protection hits. my best run end up with 12 protection hits and just one hook for it. (medkit with enought charges for 2 heals and scyptic, mettle, boon healing, overcome, adrenaline). the plan was just to stick to someones wounded ass and run away with overcome as soon as i was hit. heal up, rinse and repeat. scyptic was taken for that one extra protection hit while bodyblocking hook against killer carrying survivor (8 seconds window afterall, much, much safer than timing deadhard and hoping killer takes a swing instead of just waiting half a second)
Fun fact: I mained pre-rework freddy during the original mettle of man release. I didn’t play a ton of games, but there was one game I specifically remembered because of it. It was literally hard mode killer plus hard mode the perk. Honestly, it made me learn much faster because I made it as hard as possible 😂
It's genuinely baffling just how little thought BHVR gave to balance back in the day. With the Nurse it's at least somewhat understandable, because teleportation is cool and the game was pretty much still brand new, but MoM was added well into the game's life, where the playerbase had gotten quite good at the game.
yeah I thought mettle would be useful when I started playing, I actually got Ash because I like the actor/movies. Seeing how badly they made his perks was sad. If anything I'd rework it so MoM has an aura reading ability when struck or something dealing with temporary invulnerability, like gaining endurance, but for yourself when you unhook a survivor turning MoM from a body blocking build into a safe unhooking build. Although I'd have no idea of the nuances of such a change
Do the video g, it’s very fascinating to learn about the games past with the community. I’ve only been playing Dead By Daylight for little over a year.
These are one of the Best video formats i ever seen for this game and these videos are The only dbd videos i watch now as i dont even play The game anymore because skybilly is gone
When it comes to something being pay2win, I don't think it's about the perks being accessible, it's if they're reasonable accessible. They choose what perks are on the shrine and they never put new character perks on it within a reasonable time of survivors/killers being released. The meta was mettle and decisive and you wouldn't have had either of those perks show up during most of that meta- pay 2 win.
I still run mettle today, taking protection hits from the Artist birds gives stacks to mettle even if they do no damage, the most mettles i ever had were 4 in one match, that's 12 protection hits.
When you get to the dead hard video make sure to comment about the bugs it had like slingshotting yourself in the air or how during the first dedicated servers ptb you could turn cause it uses killer lunge code.
You should look back on bugs from previous patches and how game breaking some were, like the patch that made survivors hit boxes 4 ft further back, or in previous patches when you could window tech killers more consistently
As a Killer player i say MoM being back to 2 hits would be fine. it would be ran regularly but it wouldn't be super overpowered and will fit it's niche as a bodyblocker perfectly
Honestly, yeah. That feels fine to me too. Sure, the body blocker gets a pretty much guaranteed free health state, but the trade off is actually really significant since going for a dedicated body block playstyle means that while you're doing it the survivors lose a third of their generator progress, and it's way easier to hit a body blocking survivor than a regular one.
Imo Mettle of man should be reworked (again) into being an Anti Tunnel perk where if your on your last hook you gain the endurance effect when you take damage from the injured state. This imo would be like borrowed time but for yourself and would give you time to escape the killer after being unhooked or during a chase
Well with Michael Meyers you can figure out who is doing all the repairs or heals and flat out kill them up to twice in a round then hunt the rest the regular way
I really think they could afford to buff Mettle to have it work with unhooks, perhaps at half strength. So to activate it you'd need 3 bodyblocks, 6 unhooks, or any combination of the two. I think BHVR's spaghetti code is a little too think to add something like that though so perhaps just 3 unhooks. I really don't think it would be that bad since you can't get Mettle again until you go down, and Deliverance (a far stronger perk) only requires one unhook to activate.
If it weren't for the thumbnail, I really would have thought you were gonna say OG Ruin. I didn't play at that time, but my understanding was that OG ruin was in a similar place except on the killer side.
Ruin's effectiveness is often grossly exaggerated. It was nowhere near as busted as Mettle of Man, in my opinion. Ruin was annoying, sure, but it suffered the same problem that all Hex perks have: RNG. You could literally lose Ruin two seconds into the game because someone spawned right next to the totem (which had a chance of being either hidden very well or out in the open). You could usually just tank through it and it would only add twenty or so seconds. And if you were really good at Skill Checks, then it may as well not even exist. Plus, there were even toolbox add-ons back in the day that increased Skill Check zones when repairing.
talking about buckle up... what is the point now, that we can see the downed survivor recovery progress? no point of having that perk anymore... did it get a rework?
They should change it to where if you do a whole generator(like 100% completion total percent) you get 1 extra health state and you can only do it once per match.
i joined dbd while this time when ash was released and annoied everyone in the lobby with his comments xD loved theses times, no strange maps, no strange killers and perks, but the best was to have the ammount of good windows and god vaults at the main buildings xD
tbh I kinda wish the only endurance ANYTHING that existed would be Borrow Time and Basekit BT, Off the Record and that's it. I'd say remove DS too but to be fair the 3 second stun time now it makes it a bit better. You cannot tell me the game would be worse if survivors could extend an already long chase even longer because they hit the panic botton when they should've gone down or because they had a purple item. It's so annoying and frustrating.
Damn. It's almost as though giving survivors more health states is a delicate matter that needs to be handled perfectly as to not be either beyond OP and frustrating or less than useless and ignored. Or something.
The original idea of mettle of man would of been ok if the entirety of the match time wasn't controlled by survivors doing gens. If they actually updated the core game a bit so there were more things to the map and core goal then it wouldn't of been TOO bad. but in its current state since the killer basically can only pressure so many survivors at one time. With even one survivor doing gens it means they got like 5 minutes or so to get people down, yet alone hook them 3 times.
People use the Shrine of Secrets as a defense that DbD is not P2W. News Flash: That was what it was made for; plausible deniability. Perks from licensed chapters don't even appear for a year in the Shrine. Mettle of Man received its hard nerf long before it ever had a chance to appear in the Shrine. Mettle of Man was as strong as it was simply to increase the sales of a licensed survivor-only chapter. Well, either that or BHVR was incompetent which was and still is entirely possible.
Looking back at old dbd makes you realise how ridiculously survivor sided the game has been for its entire lifespan, and we're only just now seeing the power be put back into the killer's power role
I swear behavior just makes new character perks OP temporarily to get people to really want to buy them and not they secretly know these killers and survivors are overpowered but want people to be inclined to buy them for it before nerfing them.

Do the video g, it’s very fascinating to learn about the games past with the community. I’ve only been playing Dead By Daylight for little over a year.
DUDE, the background music is amazing!! I friggin' loved Rayman 3
You have got to love that Rayman Legend Hoodlum Havoc music in his video’s.
Me:watching the gameplay with that oni “oh man he kind of wasted that mettle of man”
Still can't believe that nerf with endurance... So glad they changed their minds
These are one of the Best video formats i ever seen for this game and these videos are The only dbd videos i watch now as i dont even play The game anymore because skybilly is gone
During the loop against the Oni, what the Meg doing ?
Doing gens, you ?
I really want to know what that other Meg was doing whilst you were looping that Oni. You had him for ages and no gens got done lol
its still so crazy to me how Ard can go from Polite, well spoken gentleman in one video to Ear piercingly loud madman in the next
Funny how they took 3 months to realize that giving a third HP state for basically free was not a good idea
Loving the dbd history channel Ardetha! Love seeing these videos proc up.
I love this format, keep it up!
Hey I just wanted to say these videos are really well done, and I always get excited to watch them! Keep up the good work 👌🏼
I still run mettle today, taking protection hits from the Artist birds gives stacks to mettle even if they do no damage, the most mettles i ever had were 4 in one match, that's 12 protection hits.
Huh. Was watching your previous video and this one just popped up. Neat!
When you get to the dead hard video make sure to comment about the bugs it had like slingshotting yourself in the air or how during the first dedicated servers ptb you could turn cause it uses killer lunge code.
As someone who main'd Huntress back then, Iridescent Hatchets were a god send to counter this absolute fuckery.
Great video! I would love to see a video on old Balanced Landing + Sprint Burst.
@@Aquilenne plus it would also have a nice dynamic in chase
Imo Mettle of man should be reworked (again) into being an Anti Tunnel perk where if your on your last hook you gain the endurance effect when you take damage from the injured state. This imo would be like borrowed time but for yourself and would give you time to escape the killer after being unhooked or during a chase
That's literally what dead hard and off the record are
Im glad my pc was broken while this perk was in its prime. saved me pulling out a lot of hair
I like your format! The background music is a bit too loud in my opinion, I sometimes had troubles understanding what you said
It's so nostalgic watching these!!
Really appreciate the quality of the video
I can hear your background music in my sleep after binging your videos
I like flip flop because a lot of time there is just 1% left when i reach hook
I remember this adrenaline dead hard mettle and decisive strike I used to reach red level so fast back then
I love these documentary form videos man, keep it up!
It was a nightmare, thank god its not as strong as it used to be
I use flipflop a fair bit, not many killers expect it and I've gotten some cheeky escapes
talking about buckle up... what is the point now, that we can see the downed survivor recovery progress? no point of having that perk anymore... did it get a rework?
They should change it to where if you do a whole generator(like 100% completion total percent) you get 1 extra health state and you can only do it once per match.
Dumb idea tbh
Mettle of meme, decisive strike, borrowed time, dead hard x4
"So, we decided to nerf pig"
i joined dbd while this time when ash was released and annoied everyone in the lobby with his comments xD loved theses times, no strange maps, no strange killers and perks, but the best was to have the ammount of good windows and god vaults at the main buildings xD
Metal of man, decisive strike, deliverance and self care was always fun
I ain’t gonna lie I look forward to your vids because of the Rayman 3 music lol but man I haven’t of this perk in a minute!
Buckle up is actually useless now due to the hud displaying what survivors are doing
tbh I kinda wish the only endurance ANYTHING that existed would be Borrow Time and Basekit BT, Off the Record and that's it.
I had a match with old mettle and selfcare in which I took like 15 protection hits in a 2vs1 situation :))
I use Flip Flop regularly. WTF? Why would you NOT have a perk that CA take out half your wiggle when the killer fucks off?!
Would you say this was worse than the time when flashlights and pallets could stun at any point in the animation?
"an additional health state is extremely powerful"
Me seeing the new bloodrush perk :/
The annoying thing is that protection hits are also very temperamental with procing
I came back to DBD after a while and was wondering why nobody was running this
"Behavior learned a valuable lesson" Ha. Behavior learning. Good one.
I recently discovered that Mettle will not protect you from instadowns if you're healthy... that was kinda funny tho
With even one survivor doing gens it means they got like 5 minutes or so to get people down, yet alone hook them 3 times.
bro what was that nurse ON
Love your content like this. It's DBD history. I'm an early player so it's very nostalgic too
Worst part is that I missed it so I didn’t need to run perks that sometimes get no value
hi I found you recently like your videos keep up the good work
Could you do a video on the old infinite loops?
the rayman background music made my day
People use the Shrine of Secrets as a defense that DbD is not P2W.
You should make a video on Dead Hard. No joke I would look forward to that.
Yo how do you get your game looking so vibrant and so smooth?
I was so sad when MoM got nerfed. I love Ash and still play him, but I remember when everyone HATED him because of MoM. He's still seen as a meme character, like Steve, but I try my best to not be toxic.
