You had the ding dong killers that learned that you could achieve an insane amount of bloodpoints by just standing infront of a survivor and cloaking and uncloaking. So you'd have weird matches where survivors and killers would just be facing off listening to the bell till someone got bored

I'm not even joking, so many people in this community start playing, and then immediately think they know everything about the game and go onto argue on forums and such as to why X is op and Y needs a buff (when they are blatantly wrong). Anyway, honestly best advice is to use and have fun with whatever you want and like, straight up. Since everything is fun and viable when you're new for a pretty long time! Unfortunately, the more you play and get better, the less viable certain killers and builds become, which is what I've currently reached with a little over 2300 hours in dbd, certain killers are straight up near unplayable unless you want to play lose and get t-bagged simulator. The wraith is probably near the top of the low tier killers imo tho, mostly cuz of his addons being very good.
I love these kind of documentary type stories/in-depth retelling of the changes to a character and how the community percieved them. Keep it up, it's a great format, and hope to see more of it.
Given that blight has received nearly as many buffs as wraith. Its not surprising that they don't want to touch him after finally making him remotely playable. People seem to forget he was outright non-functional during the PTB and at release.(His camera's original position so low he literally couldn't see past windows let alone see past low loop's walls)
I never enjoy going against a Wraith, but they're not impossible. Playing Wraith makes it feel like pallets are the worst things in the universe, and you're totally helpless most of the time. Being totally invisible and having nothing else going on is a bit awakard to balance.
Honestly, they could've just removed the "uncloak" mechanic and that would be much more balanced. Like wraith doesn't need to uncloak to get the first hit/grab, but after getting the hit, he is uncloaked immediately and no speed-boost. That would actually make use of the invisibility, but right now? Yeah that's just a joke.
The thing is, the 0.25 second buff to his lunge made him decent at anti loop. By nerfing it they made Wraith once again into a hit'n run Killer (which is unviable cuz of CoH) so the only viable strat with current Wraith is to stack gen kicking Perks with Shadowdance and brute force downs and slow the game down enough to do so.
Hit and run is still somewhat viable with the gen kicking strategy or by using sloppy/the add on or nurse's or corrupt. CoH is nerfed enough that it's still strong but in a decent place imo
Wraith is the only base killer the devs have ever played considering how oblivious they are to trapper billy and nurse being fucked for all sorts of reasons

All that the wraith needs in terms of buffs that would make sense would be a base shadow dance kit. Don’t know how much but it would punish survivors instantly dropping everything. Also his add on “the serpent” should receive his pre nerf uncloak speed that way after you uncloak from breaking anything survivors get a sweet surprise

Short of a straight-up rework (which would kill everything unique about her and the fact she IS a high skill character for all her irritating playstyle) I don't see how she can actually be balanced.

I think an analysis for a lot of older killers would definitely be interesting and I really enjoy the style of videos you've been making recently. I think this type of video would be interesting for older killers like nurse, billy, spirit, clown, oni, etc.
I've only recently found your channel, and as someone who hasn't played in a few years these have been great insights and trips down memory lane. Glad to see the old boy Bing Bong get some glow up over the years lol
For me, of all the killers, Wraith is the killer that can play the most mind games. He has so many different facets to his abilities in terms of how to properly use them to confuse survivors. Veterans will pick up on them and handle him easily, but new players usually get destroyed by him. IMO one of the things holding Wraith back is his skill ceiling. Anybody can play him, but playing him well can be a challenge. While the spine chill buff hurt all killers, I think Wraith was one of the worst hurt. If you have it, the element of surprise from him is almost non-existent.
i enjoy wraith a lot in his current state. the speed boost while invisible makes him an m1 killer you cant just hold w against, and as someone who enjoys the fundamentals of m1 andy mindgames, hes been my main for a while

Generally I run builds that do more for detecting the killer. Which means if a killer has abilities that make themselves undetectable. My entire build is wasted. Not only that, but I actually have a good track record of seeing Wraith moving even when he's stealthed. So the match always feels stale to me when I know exactly what they're about to do. Bing bong. Smack. Bing bong.
2:03 never got fixed btw. Devs just gave up and said it would be a feature. Every few meters or so survivors would have a very small chance of not leaving any scratch marks at all for a split second, which in open maps it's whatever but can REALLY screw the killer over on closed maps like RPD or Larry's Memorial.
I keep thinking they're running fucking lightweight but then I'm in shock when I see no one running it, yet their marks would just turn on and off at random

Wraith semi-main here, espousing the goodness of the slept on Shadow Dance add-ons. Combine it with Brutal Strength and you're breaking pallets almost instantly while cloaked, it's so satisfying to burst a pallet right after it gets thrown and then uncloak and smack the cheeky survivor that thought they got you.
In the video I’m not sure if it’s because I’m used to my own color blind settings or if you got your own settings, but all of the blood and scratch marks are showing up as Hot Pink in color. All I can think of is “This is like Danganronpa.”

The Wraith is my favourite killer to play bar none, he was the killer that finally took me to red ranks right before they completely redid the rank system
I just remember when they finally gave Wraith that mega buff and it just felt so damn satisfying to play him. In all honesty, I don't think I get miffed playing Wraith at all anymore. His movement is so satisfying and he actually has somewhat of a skill ceiling.
It would be easier to overlook if it hadn't immediately resulted in hag buffs and flashlight nerfs, implying that he hadn't been playing his own fucking game up until then, and had to have the obvious flaws of the current system waved in his face in order to be motivated to fix it.

I remember when they added the quality of life change that allowed you to break, pallets and kick generators while cloaked was such a huge moment

I actually like bloodhound as a tracking perk, blood appears for so long and unless in the tallest grass can track them easier then the scratch marks.

The add ons that increase pallet breaking by 100% (when combined) are pure insanity. I use them every chance I get.
I mean now you don't have much of a choice but to do the whole killer list history....

I’m so used to Smash Bros where the newer characters are ALWAYS top tier bc the devs sort of break them by overpowering them in some way, that I’m always surprised by how the S Tier killers in DBD are so old

@Your mother yeah.. he was an easier killer to use. he definitely took skill and still does as he’s extremely weak and takes good killer knowledge and perk conjunction to make work. he didn’t deserve the nerf, if you struggle with wraith you’re actually just terrible at the game.

The Wraith is my favourite killer to play bar none, he was the killer that finally took me to red ranks right before they completely redid the rank system

I hate going against the Wraith because I never know where he is.
Even when he was the weakest, I still mained him I just for some reason have a connection to the wraith
I just remember when they finally gave Wraith that mega buff and it just felt so damn satisfying to play him. In all honesty, I don't think I get miffed playing Wraith at all anymore. His movement is so satisfying and he actually has somewhat of a skill ceiling.

It would be easier to overlook if it hadn't immediately resulted in hag buffs and flashlight nerfs, implying that he hadn't been playing his own fucking game up until then, and had to have the obvious flaws of the current system waved in his face in order to be motivated to fix it.
