    Good video. Good advises. +1 on stacking spare parts. Pinions/spurs/springs/tires/diffs/etc. Don't even think about relying on surplus stocks in stores. Those tend to disperse immediately after rumors of a new model being rolled out start spreading.

    Love these guides, Roach!
    A few notes:
    -The Mugen MBX8R can use both a 4s shorty and a 4s stick pack. The battery tray adjusts to accommodate both.
    -in KV motors, higher KV does mean faster spin, but lower torque, not higher. This is why you'll typically get a bit higher KV for a buggy that is nimble and smaller and a bit lower for truggies that are heavier and less agile. Most motors on the market can handle both, though. I'd advise anybody new to just ask their local fast guy what he's running and what he recommends for a newcomer.
    -My one other recommendation to anyone looking to buy their first 8th scale would be to check out their local track and see what is well supported and what parts are available. As you said, 8th scale is built for durability but you're gonna break stuff, and having both parts support at a hobby shop and/or some other guys who might have some spares you can borrow or buy off them if you run out or break something unexpected will significantly improve your experience. (It'll also help you with setup and other questions you might have too, as others can give you input specific to that car.)

    Middle TN Area here. I see plenty of Basic Losi DB Pro, and Typhon TLR on the track. Like I tell anyone NEW to the hobby. Money will buy you so much, but, in the end SKILL is more vital. Plenty of expensive RC on the track, with no skill, and even more average cars, with SKILL on the track.

Thanks for the excellent and informative video. I figured I would pick out the electronics when I go to Amain and see what everyone is running or what they suggest I use. Thanks again.

      Verry underrated car. You have to put some work into it to get it running fast on a track. Like spidergears and stuff. But once its dialed in, yeah its a great car for sure. Myself running the MP7.5 chassis a long time. Thats the same chassis as the Neo. But to be honest, that are some heavy mofo's compared to last year released cars

    • @RoachRC
      @RoachRC  2 місяці тому +1

      @@fuzzfreak1967 The TLR car isn't a bad car, it's just that finding parts for it atm is quite difficult. It's legit easier to find parts for my Agama and for an American brand backed by Horizon to have that issue is odd to say the least

    • @fuzzfreak1967
      @fuzzfreak1967 2 місяці тому +3

      Ah; I read something on the internet recently that TLR was having a parts supply issue for their 1/10 scale cars but they were fine with their parts for their 1/8 scale. A little bit about me; I started racing RC off road in 2016 and got burned out and threw in the towel in 2020. I never sold any of my stuff, it’s just been collecting dust in my basement so I have been a little out of it for a while. I just dusted off my stuff, invested in some new batteries and headed back out there again in December with all old cars. I have Tekno and TLR cars. I have always found these companies both to be very durable. I think durability is a very important factor, especially for beginners. I also feel like you can get any car to handle good, some just require more tinkering than others. All the cars are loaded with adjustments. I must admit though, I pretty much have only driven my cars so I really don’t know how other cars are when it comes to actually driving them. People at the track don’t really trade off each others cars and run them, they don’t want you to accidentally break their car on them. Quick story; one of my old RC buddies, I tried talking setup with him when I first met him and he quickly shot me down and told me not to waste my breath, that car setup was over his head. He was just a driver, he was a pretty good driver too, he never even checked his ride height, did nothing with his cars except put the battery in and go. Every now and then I would notice that his car was way out of whack so I would grab it from him and straighten it out for him. One time we were practicing/warming up for racing and he felt that his buggy was not right so he asked me to drive it and let him know what I thought. He was an Associated guy and I had TLR. I had the 22 3.0 and his buggy was the B5M. So I took it for a drive and holy cow, it was better than my buggy. I told him that it was better than mine and that it was fine. I didn’t drive it for very long but it’s the only time I ever drove an Associated anything. I liked it, it was good and drove well; I stuck with TLR though I really feel like TLR has a leg up on durability over Associated

    The AE buggy can use stick packs, they just have to buy the RC8T4E battery trays separately. But they do mount.
    I love my RC8T4E. It lets me mount a real truggy body. But for buggy I love kyosho. They drive so smooth and they look the most natural of the buggies imo

      @@colinleonard2541 well, the AE website no longer says that the T4 trays are compatible with the B4, but the T4 trays still have the buggy mounting slots in them...I guess it would be anyone's guess that has the b4.1e then. Some good advice in here. But man you really don't make it easy for yourself :D
    Feel like just mentioning the different battery configurations with one example each would've worked better. Especially now that quite a few cars support multiple layouts that's quite a lot of work to get right and sadly you didn't.
    The Mugen for example comes with a battery tray for both a shorty and brick, while the S35-4e Evo and Sparko support all 4 options (though the non-saddle layout feels kinda wonky ngl)..

    Love the videos! Newbie question: just finished up my first ⅛ scale build (b4e.1) running saddle pack. Are two 500 mill amps okay enough? Also, can motor fan be plugged into aux port of receiver? I solder it to esc on 10th but the esc for 8th seems a bit more involved

    I would like to start racing and I need a bit of advice / help. I have found a guy selling his Mugen MBX7Te and Associated RC8b3.1e both for 400€. Cars come with castle motors, hobbywing XR8 escs, savox servos and a spektrum transmitter.
    Both cars look a bit dirty, but otherwise apparently in good condition. I am planning to keep the mugen chassis to use the electronics of my old MT4 G3 and clean and sell the rest of the kit. Or do the opposite if my local club happens to only race buggies. Do you know if there are still enough spares of these cars around?
    I understand this models already have a few years, but they were top of the line and I even think I could make some money if I cleaned them a bit and listed them correctly (I had to guess the models from the pictures).

    • @RoachRC
      @RoachRC  21 день тому

      Hmm. They are a good price but finding parts for them might be a challenge. If you clean them up you could sell them for more but not much more. My advice would be to save up for a more recent used kit that will allow you to find parts easier
