  • A very enjoyable and pleasant morning fishing session on waitpinga beach with bait. WARNING some viewers may find this graphic. It is wise to bleed salmon you are going to eat, apart from that I do hope you enjoy the viewing and maybe pick up a fishing tip or two.

    Hi David I stumbled across your Chanel last week and instantly started to consume all its contents! On Saturday I hit Waitpinga beach armed with all the information from your videos. The conditions weren’t great but a left with a feed of salmon! Thanks for posting great content!

    fantastic video! Just spent the day at Waitpinga fishing a beach for the first time ever, in that exact same spot! Had no idea what i was doing and of course came back with nothing but experience. Wish I'd seen this vid first! Might have made a LOT of difference. At least now I have some great advice for next time :)

      Thank you Mike. Like you said nothing caught but experience gained. One other tip for Waits is when there is a large surf pumping there will be a strong rip. Try walking up the channel cast in and slowly walk with your bait back towards the gutter and repeat that sometimes works well.Next time you go there i'm sure you will catch fish .And thanks for the sub and tight lines.

    Love it there but never had much luck. Parsons has produced more for me when casting from the rocks. Maybe that says something about my casting and gutter spotting lol. Caught 12 decent size salmon at VH bluff last week on lure. Nice video

      HI mike thanks for your input. Waits can be up and down but generally good for a feed try in the channels and near or under the white foam created by the breaking waves on the sand bar or on the edge of the gutter. Also in good conditions you don't have to cast that far just at the back of the churned up sand is fine also try the burley spring with cockles or pilchard for bait. I'me planning to do my next video down Parsons, and good to hear about your catch at the bluff well done TIGHT LINES mate.

    Thinks for making another quality vedio. Very helpful. I saw some people put burley first to attack fish in. Same as you did worming, such as fish head or carps at edge of the wave, that may help to get fish around.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  6 років тому +1

      Howdy Trin yes burly put in a bag like worming is the best way to burley for everything. I've done burlying like that a lot especially for mulloway fishing and caught a lot of fish doing that usually on isolated beaches. I use to do it of jetties and every where best to keep it away from swimmers though. It works very well, mullet scraps, salmon scraps pilchards, tommy scraps, yes works very very well

    As an ex northener who has found what is almost a shroud of secrecy among S.A. fishers (to the point where I have seen someone give deliberately false info), your videos have been a shining light, thank you so much. I went to Waitpinga 2 years ago thinking I'll just do what I did in Qld, well that drew a big fat donut. Next time I will modify my set up accordingly (but will always use my beloved Alveys). Anyways a question, the walkway to the beach looks to be different from the one I used 2 years ago from the carpark, where is this one located and is this one any less steep going up the dune?? I have an old leg wound and steep slopes (either up or down) are very painful to navigate. Regards. P.S. Your gents are awesome!!

      G'day biggestd69 I'm glad you are finding my videos useful for your fishing. Yes us fishos are known to keep our favourite places to ourselves, I have got mine but also have a few to share hoping to help people like yourself and people new to fishing. The walk way on this video is the first one on the right there is a smaller car park sometimes after a storm it can be steep going onto the beach but generaly a lot better than the other one and the fishing the same. I will be fishing some places you will probably find interesting later, my hands are tied at the moment with work Thank you for your comment and Tight Lines. David

    Hi David, really good video with excellent tips! Have you ever tried adding a surf popper above you bait trace when salmon fishing? I have used them a lot in the last few years and have found them extremely productive, especially in the teal/blue colour. Often they will add a second fish to the catch when a fish hooked on the bait attracts a few curious mates to follow it and then one of the followers has a snap at the popper on the way back in. Sometimes I have hooked fish on the popper working around in the surge when the pilchard bait has been ignored! A great pity that Waitpinga now only rarely produces the quality fish that used to be there years ago, when 4-5 kg fish were the norm and Tailor and Mulloway were also caught at times. Sigh ...

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому

      Gday mate thank you for your reply! no I have never got round to using one of them little poppers, a friend uses one when we have been out fishing quite regularly and he did well on it like you say. I have a great photo of him holding up a triple header one on the popper down at Deep Creek. I remember the days when the bigger fish were around not so many anymore, occasional getting surprised by one ore two, even salt creek they are a lot smaller now. I was fishing at waits a couple of years ago and a old timer fisho was talking to me about Tailor then I had a bite and caught a Tailor it was not big but we couldn't believe it. No I won't be doing any subtitles its all to hard and I guess do it for one do it for all, I find it hard enough doing this youtube sometimes. I will have to keep it all basic theres a lot I find hard to get my head around. Cheers David

    Hi David, looking to go down to waits for a fish in the next month or two with my Dad (I’m 12 years old) and I’m wondering what the best times are to go out (land based). Any bait and lure suggestions? Rod size and hook size ideas? Do you need burley to catch more fish? What is your recommended setup for hooks and line?
    Thanks,
    Joel.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому +5

      Hello Joel. Thank you for your comment. Right because you are a young fellow I will recommend head down when the wind is blowing from the north west, north or north east only because it will be calmer for you to fish, its good when its rough and the winds blowing from the south or south west but its better to have a bit more experience for beach fishing in them conditions. Also first light or 3 hours before dark are my preferred times to fish and fishing into the dark can be rewarding. I have done a fishing waitpinga part 2, can I recommend you fish the same way as I do in that video. I think it will be easier for you to fish with cockles and I've caught all sizes of salmon on them and burly in a spring helps big time I won't fish without it. also fish where the waves break last that is where the deeper water is ( gutters and channels) good lures are Halco Twister 30and40 grams also Lazer lures are very good 30to40 grams. My fishing rod is 10ft long 4120 Snyder glass and fast tapered sensitive tip with strong middle section 20lb braid with 30lb mono used on my padernoster rig. Hope that helps Joel watch how I fish and you will catch some fish and remember patience and some times we don't catch anything, but the more you learn the better you shall get. Tight lines.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому

      Yep no problem 200m (0.37mm diameter braid) 20lb even more finer diameter. My 6000 SOL LT-H has a smaller body and lighter, larger spool holds 300m (0.24mm diameter braid) 30lb. both of these line measurements are on the reels spools.

    Absolute cracking mate. Might I ask whens the best tide to fish waits? I usually go at high tide and follow it out but haven't been too successful. Oh and with coclkes should I throw on atleast 3 each hook?

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому +1

      Hi ReaLzEdits thank you. When I fish Waits it's normally before day light or just light or 2- 2 and a half hours before dark if I haven't caught fish before dark I shall fish into the dark for a while because they will often arrive around night time, they come into beaches at night for safety away from predators but the predators know that, thats why if you get there before sun up the fish are still there waiting for you, its generally around low tide them times of the day down there, different than outer harbour you probably know that. Gloomy days you can catch fish throughout the day sometimes. If I'm using cockle 2 will be fine on a number 4 hook. Try that out copy the way I fish and I think you will do OK. have a look at my waits number 2 video if you haven't already and my parsons beach. Cheers David.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726

      Hi Hanoi. There are rods for surf fishing 12ft and longer designed to keep your fishing line above the shore break and for casting a good distance, but you can also use these rods while rock fishing. A fast taper fishing rod with a bit of length is good off the rocks when landing a fish to hold your line away from the rocks. Except for my short rods all my rods go beach fishing and rock fishing. The reel I'm using is the Daiwa TD Soll 4000 H

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому +2

      Hi Andrew. The smaller salmon I like to beer batter and deep fry also Panko bread crumbs or make my own bread crumbs and deep fry. The larger salmon we make fish cakes 50% boiled fish 50% potato, we also like to add some grated cheese some frozen vegetables a bit of chilli and some other things, then mush it all together and crumb shallow fry or deep fry. you can play around with flavours for them but they are yummy. We also like making curry using Valcom Thai Red Curry, I just use the curry paste and use one and a half can of coconut cream and throw in vegetables, some small cubes of boiled potatoes, again whatever you like but its yummy too. Well after writing that I am now hungry. Thanks for your comment Andrew and hope you enjoy. Cheers David
