I got a 2020 taco about a year ago with 6,000 miles on it and it sounds like a tractor at idle and at low speeds been worried about it too but everyone said its normal
Same with my 2021 Tacoma

Very slight difference. I just purchased a 2015 Tacoma Trd and had that same tapping thought the valves needed to be adjusted but seems to be a normal internal sound then. Thanks for the content.

Just bought a used 15 with a little over 100k on it and am glad to hear that it wasn’t an early sign of a major problem.

Almost a year later and the sound has remained the same. No worse or better and the truck runs great. I’m convinced it’s normal and it doesn’t bother me anymore. Enjoy the taco man . 🌮 🎉
Same tick from my 2017 TRD Off Road. Glad to know it’s normal. Thought one of my intern engine parts was failing and barely have 55k on it.
2nd gen tacomas tick. Lots of engines do. Also preemptive here not being rude I’ve worried about that tick in the past as well. There’s lots of parts in there moving around. Mine has sounded just like that since I bout it with 80k on it. Almost rounding 200k and it sound exactly the same. Sometimes it is quieter sometimes louder probably my crazy ears listening for it. I just hear it now and think yep sounds like the normal engine noise. Never know why I guess just noisy drivetrain. Best running lowest maintenance vehicle I’ve ever had though. Love it. Learn to ignore that ticking sound. Lol save you some stress.

Slightly but there is still the same engine tick I can hear in my one I was woundering if it was the injectors or lifters as it goes louder with rpm

The tick or click is from the port and fuel injection system lol. The only mod is getting rid of it.

I know my air conditioner on both 2nd and 3rd gen tic like hell but my 3rd gen has another sound, like a tight lifter on the passenger side rear of motor so I'm gonna let them look at it

Is the tick always there or does it go away after the engine is warm?
It’s very sparatic honestly. I’m sure that Toyota has the computer always keeping this motor under control and in safe values. I hate that tick with a passion and how sluggish it is but atleast you know that it’s gonna last you forever if you respect it.
when i bought my 2010 tacoma in 2019 i took it to a dealer ship because i thought the noise was bad. they told me its perfectly normal for it to sound like that.
It's on a 2nd Gen 4.0 and has nothing to do with the "Engine". It's the purge valve / solenoid that makes the noise as it opens and closes to control the emissions, specifically the vapors stored in the charcoal cannister which then get burned by combustion to reduce emissions. The click from the solenoid is amplified by the intake it's mounted to, a big plastic box that pretends it's a drum. The rubber washers isolate some of the noise but since the metal bolt is still through the valve and the intake there is still a direct link between the two. Might have better luck unbolting it and zip tying it to something else and even wrapping it in foam insulation. Just a crappy design flaw you have to live with to make the Government (ie EPA) happy.

I’m in the process of purchasing a Tacoma, I raised the hood and heard the tic noise and panicked.
I recorded a video, even asked the salesman to compare another Tacoma (same tick)

Pretty sure this is the direct injection engine in the 3rd gens. Deff the HP pump and maybe a little valve tick, (exhaust)
really need help here, my tacoma starts ticking around 2k rpm, nothing at idle. I do know I have a cracked timing head gasket, but it’s never made any noises before. should i go get it checked out or could this possibly work? obviously it wouldn’t fix the gasket but the tick is so fucking annoying lmao.

A friend at work about a month ago said to me, "Ya got a bad balve?" & since then it's been on my mind & I hear it. So....it IS normal?? Please tell me it's normal. If my TACo ticks, alright. If it shouldn't tick, shit.
V6 Toyota 4.0 are ticking all with 0 or 400k miles...do not worry. I started today one Land Cruiser 4.0 V6 with same engine, the chain sounded first 2-3 seconds like it is going to fall apart...🤣🤣
The car has not be started at least 2 months...
Just dont get crazy if you leave your car longer sitting first start won't be nice at all🤣🤣
Just change your oil by the book or sooner and you'll have no issue...

I just got a brand new taco V6. Is this normal? Parked with AC running sounds just like this. If it’s normal I can live with it but I’m trying to find out or if there’s an issue
It’s normal, all 3rd gens do it.
My inline 4 sounds same sometimes ...bad gasoline. It goes away with 98octane much smoother...
My 3rd Gen 15.5 TRD has 188K miles and I have never noticed an annoying loud ticking from the engine.

Clean out the PCV valve located on driver's side back park of engine above the rear coil. Spring in the valve is clogged.

All this did is at a more annoying higher frequency rattling to the overall annoyingness of the engine

Sounds like it needs a valve adjustment. Toyota recommends every 60,000 miles. I don’t know man it might have helped but very little

Put a bit thicker oil and this thing quiets down .i put 10w40 amd now its much quieter than the recommended 5w30
