    I'm so glad I came across your video. Thank you so much for the info. I just bought a 2015 tacoma limited. You hit the nail on the head on what mine does. Between 55-68mph or so, once you hit 70, boom, gone. And to be completely honest, I got into my truck flying to get round traffic on a highway I travel a lot, got up to about 85-90 and it drove excellent at that speed, was blown away. But between 55-68, sometimes it shakes, and sometimes not. Sometimes it shakes more than other times. Its not bad, but enough to be really annoying. I got used to it in time. A friend of mine has a 2005. His does it to. I've tried to tell people that own these it's a known thing. But they didn't want to believe me. They must be lucky and the parts didnt fail, or, the owners that had them already did the fix you said. I've searched it on tacoma world because I wondered why. And I didn't find a good answer. And I had my tires balanced, did not fix it. My truck drives good and straight. So, alignment should be OK. Please send me a link to the part you bought. I love my truck to death. To be completely honest, I never took the time to search this issue on UA-cam. So glad I did and came across your video. Thank you for making this video. Anything you can tell me to reduce or fix this issue, please let me know.

      In addition to this, I've also noticed it does it around 35-45 mph. My solution has been to keep it in 4th gear, because Toyotas programming telling the transmission to go into overdrive at as low as 35 mph & converter lockup around 40-45 mph 😡. So when I'm not going at least 45 (flat roads) it's in 4th. It actually saves gas, considering I live in an area with lots of hills it just keeps "gear hunting" when left in D. I still have some of the shake that I mentioned in the video. I am also suspicious of the rack bushings too. I'll be looking into that asap.

      @@bbracing3925 that's crazy, I read some more comments on your video, and I noticed you said that. And I thought it was just me, but now that you said that, I sometimes feel a slight thing at 45. As I've said and you have said, people that either have them that don't do it think your crazy. Or, the dealer will think your crazy when you tell them whats going on. Like I've said, I've gotten used to it in time. You also hit the nail on the head about when you brake, mine shakes a lot worse when you go to brake a little hard if your doing those speeds and your wheel is shaking. And I know my rotors arnt warped because at regular speeds, it does not pulsate. I did read the comments and seen about the wheel torque being important with these trucks. I wondered about this for awhile. Again, thanks for putting this out their.

    Thank you for this video, I've been in and out of the dealer for this issue and its been driving me crazy. The dealers literally treat you like your crazy, so one time I brought my 4runner with my trailer (the shake happens much more obviously when the frontend is unloaded, and took one of the service guys on a test drive. Low and behold they finally acknowledged the shake, and added grease to the joint. Seems it now happens at 60-63mph instead of 55mph.. I plan to have them warranty fix it until hopefully one day they realize they need to switch this! Thank you for showing me!!

      Very important personal "TSB", check your steering column - mid shaft. It's easily accessible (under dash, in-between that gas/brake pedal). The rubber "rag joint"/ anti vibration disc is a shit design, and leads to a "disconnect" in the steering wheel sensitivity. Almost like a tugging at the steering in the opposite direction. I notice it the most at uneven/melted intersections or slight lane height differences when changing lanes on the highway. This issue also highly contributes to the vibration our trucks get at 60-70mph. There are quite a few good videos related to the Toyota mid shaft epidemic, that they also refuse to recall. 😡

      Have you checked your steering shaft flex disc? It's at the base of the steering column it connects the intermediate shaft to the column. (Above the brake pedal) they are a sh!+ Design. Even if you can't see any physical cracks in the rubber there's a good chance it's going bad. The way I was able to identify mine was if you ever go through an intersection at a stoplight that is all squished and wavy from heavy trucks sitting there on a hot day. If your steering starts pulling in weird directions as you pass over that, it's the steering "rag joint" going bad. I'm looking into doing the flex disc/rag joint elimination mod. There are a couple diy how to videos on UA-cam on it.

    It comes down to four things. Make sure you have a good tire that has under 15lbs of road force, make sure you have plenty of pressure in each tire, make sure your lugs are torqued to the EXACT same torque, and make sure your tires are clear of any rocks. Our steering racks are EXTREMELY sensitive to imbalances, plain and simple.

    • @bbracing3925
      @bbracing3925  Рік тому +6

      The clamshell bushing greatly improved my vibration issue but I do agree with the lug nut torque and clearing stones from the tread also in addition making sure that the rim mating surface and rotor mating surface/hub are clean. My vibration has started to come back again. This time I found that the rack bushings are starting to go bad. My Tacoma only ha 80,000 miles! (currently on the truck). And the steelership categorize that as a wear item which would not be covered under manufacturer suspension and steering warranty. 🤬 I'm a mechanic by trade it's not like I can't do the job myself it's just the principal of the warranty and subpar manufacturing process in my opinion. My solution is replacing them with black polyurethane bushings and hope for the best.

      @@bbracing3925 Update. I noticed my runner does this most in the morning and im pretty sure its temporary flat spots. I did an experiment where I put it up on jack stands overnight to keep the weight off the front tires. The next morning it drove as smooth as butter...I did a little research and I guess all AT tires that are also snow rated are built with a nylon cap that aids in cold weather traction. The problem is that nylon also likes to "Set" when it cools, thus forming a temporary flat spot. This flat spot isnt usually noticed on most cars but the 4runner is extra susceptable due to its sensitive steering rack.

But i feel i got rid of most of it with new upper ball joints and bushings.
    I added your video to a playlist for Toyota maintenance, and I have another that may help. Its called the Transmission Shudder, something to do with the torque converter which someone may have mentioned in the comments of this video. Due to worn out torque converter or clutch pads inside the tranny. Try a drain and fill, and/or a tube of Lubegard ShudderFix. I did a complete flush like Timmy the Toolman did by detaching a hose from the radiator.

      I was able to get rid of 80% of the shake by doing the LF differential clamshell bushing conversion from ECGS. The other 20% I'm worried might be inherit torque converter shudder due to TCM programming. I believe according to the data on my scanner (Snap-On Solus Edge) the converter clutch is going into "lock up" at as low as 35-40 mph, lugging the engine down for improved MPG. At 60+ mph I see an erratic wave pattern coming from the converter clutch solenoid. ???? Also get an issue where sometimes it doesn't want to leave 4th and go to 5th so I have to slap the shifter from 4th to regular drive again to get it to shift. It's done this since I bought it. I've also talked to other Toyota owners and they have confirmed the same weird software glitch in the transmission. I regularly service my truck every 30,000 miles with a pan drop and new fluid and I never see any deposits or metal material in the trans pan.

      Overtime it will cause bushings to wear out prematurely in the lower strut bushing & CV axle seals (personal experience). it will also cause cupping in the tires. all of those things together over time get expensive when you have to do it over and over, compared to the $70 ECS bushing kit. Im not affiliated with ECS in any way, just in personal experience, the kit fixed my issue that the dealer wouldn't even acknowledge, because they don't want to do it at warranty labor rates. I know their game. Im a mechanic by trade, I deal with warranty companies all the time. I just didn't want to do it on my own time & dime, especially knowing it is a warranty covered repair. It should be a recall due to the vehicle becoming unstable at highway speeds and possible loss of traction on a steering/driven wheel on an already top heavy vehicle. 😓 I fixed it by installing a clamshell bushing kit from ECGS, they supply the tool to remove the old seal, the clamshell bushing and a new LF O.E.M. toyota cv axle seal. The whole job took roughly 2 hours of my life that ill never get back. 🥲

    Hey @B&B Racing, I came back to your video to re read your comment you sent back to me, so glad im reading this again. BTW, wheel shake is gone on my truck. Once I had my tires balanced again, fixed. Just in case to, I had a front end alignment done as well. Come to find out, my ball joints had play in them. I did all this when my truck had roughly 180k. Drives like new now. However, re reading your comment, your hitting the nail in the head on something else I am having issues with now. Your right about these trucks being in overdrive at 35mph. Stupid part is, its at like 1,100rpm. So stupid. and here lately, im behind a lot of slow pokes. Every once and awhile, ill run into someone doing 35mph up a hill. And im guessing whats happening is my converter is locking. Im thinking after reading tacoma world and re reading your comment, whats happening is the ecu is commanding the converter to lock. And when it does, it shakes my truck so bad, its like im driving a manual in a parking lot in 3rd gear at 5mph. And not all the time does it do this. Every once and awhile. and when it does shake that bad, its always at 35. Now, all the time , I will feel my truck when im doing roughly 35-40 it will vibrate some and when I hit the gas more, it will downshift and boom, vibration gone. I took your advice and I drove my truck today in 4th, it was so happy at those low speeds. Does this sound right to you or do you think its something else? I just put brand new spark plugs in it. I made sure to go to toyota and buy the oem denso plugs. Also, I made sure to clean my throttle body with the crc throttle body cleaner and the maf sensor with the crc maf cleaner.

      It should’ve had at least a 6 sp transmission for one thing. They all gear hunt at certain speeds bc the ratios are too far apart… needs an intermediate gear. I’m installing the pedal commander tmrw, alot of ppl swear it gets rid of that by the extra ecu controlling the throttle instead of the stock ecu.

    • @nathancaudill7683
      @nathancaudill7683 Рік тому +1

      @RSL good to know. I'm not a mechanic by any means. I just understand how a lot of things work. I had someone drive my truck and they think its missing. Makes sense what the person told me. Since it's vibrated hard only a hand full of times, I didn't think about this. Sometimes, before a coil completely goes bad. Sometimes, it takes certain speed, rpm, load to make it miss. And I think that is it because when I pulled the plugs, it was denso on the passenger and ngk on the driver's bank. Big indication these have never been pulled. I read that on tacoma world and I thought that guy was joking. And I did this at 180k miles. The people that had it before me just had the motto if it aint broke, dont fix it. So, my gap when I pulled them was .040in out of spec. So, since of that, I'm thinking it took a toll on the packs. I just bought 6 denso coil packs. I'm going to try that and see what happens. If that doesn't take care of it. I was going to consider to have kdmax tune my truck. I got on summit racing and ordered all 6 denso packs for $45. The oem toyota ones are 110 and denso makes them 😂😂😂😂😂. So, if that's the case, I should be able to bolt them up and life is good. But if that doesn't solve it, I will strongly think about having kdmax tune my truck. However, I just looked at the pedal comannnder. That would be awesome. Buy a device and be done with it. Let me know how you like it.

      @Noah It seems to run smoother. So, I must have had a slight miss and from time to time it would vibrate horribly. Then again, I've only had this truck for 7months. I bought it with 176k on it. The others that had it never changed the spark plugs. Mine began to miss so I fixed it immediately. Then, i figured might as well put coils in it and see if that helps since i figured it worked the coils harder. And high load and low rpm in overdrive was making it do that. I checked the gap on the ones i pulled, they were at least .030in off from spec. But still, it does that around 35-40. I know dang well it's not a shutter because it only does this at that speed and in overdrive. Now if it was doing this at wide ranges of speed, then I know it would be a shutter. Other than that, this transmission operates beautifully. But sadly, it did not fix it. It still does it. I payed more attention to when mine does it. The only time it will vibrate is if your going up even a slight incline at those speeds in overdrive. If your on completely flat ground at 35-40mph in overdrive, it won't do it, so, what @RSL said, I can see why he's saying that. But really, it's not the transmissions fault. Its a beautiful trans for this truck. It's toyotas end because they have it set to make it be in overdrive at that speed. And naturally, if your behind a slow poke at those speeds, and you cant give enough throttle input to make it downshift going up a slight incline, then it will vibrate. Ive personally learned to live with it. What i have started doing is letting up off the pedal, let it slow down less than 35. As soon as it does, give it the amount of gas you need and it will downshift. But if you have a tuner tune it, they will change the shift points. Also, I will tell you something that helped me to, I forgot to mention this. I got to talk to a guy who used to be a master tech at my local toyota dealer. Hes a honest guy. So, i know hes not lying to me. This really helped my truck. He said these learn how you drive. So, what I would do is disconnect your ground cable. They say to let it sit for up to 10min. Personally, if it were me, I would let it sit with the ground cable off for a hr. Put it back on. It may drive funny since it lost all your driving habits. But drive the truck exactly how you drive it. And if your like me and like to get into the pedal, it seemed to be more responsive in downshifts.

      I would have your front CV axles and front drive shaft checked for balance. I have seen with CV shafts that they can develop rust scale under the boots or in the middle of the axle at the "vibration dampening bushing", that can cause an imbalance. With the drive shaft you could have a universal joint starting to seize up and similar with the CV joints in the axles if they have lost their grease out of the boots. "Possibly caused by the rust scale breaking away from under the cv boot.

However after switching back to 265/70/17 nitto terra grapplers I still have wobble, much less than the KO2s but it may be the needle nose bearing that needs replaced for me at this point after using those heavy hard to balance KO2’s. Leo, have you switched tires recently? I ask because strong vibration to me sounds like your issue is not the bearing.

      Look into the kit for upgrading the left front CV axle/differential carrier needle bearing to the tighter fitting clamshell bushing from ECGS. I'm not sponsored by them or have any affiliation with them I personally did it on my Tacoma and it reduced the 60 to 65 mph vibration by about 80% at least and it's a relatively cheap upgrade and I've had no issues or leaks in the two and a half years since doing the upgrade. Another potential culprit for the vibration im finding with tacomas and 4runners, they're steering rack bushings are not as robust as they should be for a medium-sized truck, and they wear out prematurely. I noticed my vibration started to come back. They are a bit difficult to get a visual look at due to their location in the truck, but I found that my bushings were in pretty bad shape at only 80,000 mi.

The weight is facing out, it's spot welded to the drum. Over time, corrosion tends to pop them off. This can cause a noticable vibration at 60+ mph as well. Hope this helps.

Servicing the pad slider/retainer pins tend to need regreased about once a year to help limit any minor vibrations from inevitable warpage that occurs over time. This has been a minor contributor in my 60-70 mph vibration experience with mine and others I have diagnosed & repaired. If you have not done the -ECGS -LF inner c/v axle (Diff) clamshell bushing upgrade, I recommend getting it done. It definitely took away like 80-90% of my vibration. ECGS does not sponsor me in any way shape or form, I just find their kit to be top notch as far as quality. They include a new Toyota Oem axle seal, their upgraded bushing, and a perfect fit extraction tool for the bearing. As a mechanic that speaks for itself.

    My 2014 Nissan frontier has that same problem, where the steering wheel shakes and the passenger seat with shake a little bit at 70 mph. well I got new wheels and tires and it shakes but it even shook with my original wheels and tires that came on the truck I took it to get it aligned. and it still did it but not as bad every time I took in the tires to get a rebalance they kept saying oh yeah the weights were off and then I took it in again and they said yes the weights were off a little bit again. but I’m like I just got them rebalance like three times and every time I go in there it was always something different and it never ended it was always off every time I took it in but it never fix the problem now this isn’t a Nissan dealership this was a local tire shop that was trusted. and it’s still shakes and I can’t figure out what the problem is. They told me it could be the tires because Cooper at3 have problems with out around but other people are like my tires don’t do that they’re coopers too.

      Although it's not a Tacoma I know the frontier is very similar in suspension geometry. First thing you want to check is if there is any play in your left front inner CV joint where the axle goes into the differential I'm not sure if this is a problem area for the frontier or not. Next I would check your steering shaft and rag joint. After that I would check your rack-and-pinion support bushings.

    These dealerships are worthless. My 2019 4runner does this as well. Dealership just says it's the rugged tires. Toyota should know better.

      What are the symptoms? Mine sounds like a freight train is beside me starting around 55-60 then continues up to 75-80 mph? But the steering doesn’t shake. Thoughts?

      Given the current lineup of the truck market & prices, I would have to say the opposite. It's the dealerships that are the issue. Doesn't matter what brand, I just expected better with Toyota. This issue goes much deeper than my Tacoma's past issue.

    Just get KM3’s and you won’t be bother by anything. Since the tire is already loud and beefy everything else gets muted out. 😂. Trust me 2 plus years in. Stock TRD PRO rims with 285/70/17

    Hello is this problem on 4×4 only?

    • @bbracing3925

      I would assume so, given the nature of the of the issue. Always rule out the tires, steering components, alignment, and shock absorbers first.

    Ford is doing much worse IMO; plastic oil pans on a $50,000 sports car or a $75,000 pick up truck is unacceptable or should I say straight up BS.
