We had a Saint that was on his last leg. We added another Saint because we knew when he passed it would take a long time to heal before getting another dog. He was like a puppy again when we brought our second one home. He lived another 5 years!
How ironic is that, as I did the same thing when my schipperke was 16 years old. Mandy had lost tons of weight, alopecia, & became blind over the last couple years. So I brought home a male miniature schnauzer, which I named Cody. Cody is now 5 years old and has been a Godsend recently. (My first male dog & first schnauzer, which I will definitely get again!)
You know, Maria, probably a part of the reason Blue has so accepted her and babied her is that Blue also knows that she's important to you. It doesn't become jealousy because you two have such a profound bond and so he can simply welcome a new member into the tribe because of the love and trust you continue to bestow on him. Just ignore the critics. They are likely the same people who go to work, leaving their dogs in a crate 8+ hours a day and don't walk them. Experts say leaving a dog in a crate for that many hours at a time isn't psychologically healthy for a dog. If they live in an apartment, the dog probably doesn't get off leash either. Blu is clearly happy, fell fed, and gets plenty of exercise. That's all that matters.
This is exactly why I don't have a dog right now . I work 12 hr shifts and am gone anywhere from 13 to 17 hours at a time . I can not in good conscience leave a dog pinned up like that, so I have a cat . He has his litter box , and automatic feeder and waterer . He is very spoiled and has everyone who comes to my house trained on where the treats are 😂

I'm so glad Blue has taken to your rescue and you chose a rescue dog!!!! It drives me nuts when people choose a breeder dog. You can find purebreds from rescue shelters. By the way your Miss Thing is soooo precious!!!! You'll be able to train her easily. I think Blue having a sibling will be great for both of you!!! Yeaaaaa!!!!
But why did the rescue not give the dog a bath after a year old. Even if it was turned over a day ago. Why no bath. Rescues are sometimes dog hoarders who loose control of their situation. A lot of times we rescue just to get them away from the shelter they are in. Rescuers beware.
Purebred doesn’t mean well bred. Ethically bred dogs rarely, if ever, end up in shelters. If they do, ethical breeders will always fight to get their dogs back. Adopt OR shop responsibly. Rescue dogs can be unpredictable in their health and temperament, it’s totally ok if someone chooses a breed that aligns with their lifestyle and does the work to find an ethical breeder proving, health testing, and preserving their breed.
Aussies are the best! And in a Landrover! Coincidentally, Landrovers are the vehicles that Australia was built with post World War 2. Many will say it was the Landcruiser, but they’re too young to remember that Australia was fighting the Japanese just a decade or two prior. Congratulations on the little Ozzy! 🦘

Your new pup would love a biothane longline!! Since she’s a little skittish, being on a long line will give her more space from people until she adjusts fully! It will also give her more freedom to sniff and play around safely. I use a 30 footer and when I’m at camp I let it drag around. This helps to teach them recall and staying in your bubble also ☺️ Biothane cleans nicely too and is awesome for desert dwelling as it’s easier to get cacti out of. Definitely clip the longline to a harness, I recommend ruff wears front range hi and light as it’s light, comfy, has good padding, and has a little pocket to put their ID/rabies info in! That way the tags don’t jingle or get caught on something. I can tell miss thang is going to be so loved! It’s amazing you rescued her and she now gets to go on all these awesome adventures with you and blue. I love seeing dogs live a lifestyle that resembles that of their ancestors! It’s so good for them to spend majority of their time outdoors ❤

We worked with Mini Aussie Rescue for years. We took all of the “under breed standard” “runts” 😂. She looks like a Mini with a tail! Definitely a high mix. Absolutely beautiful! We love that you adopted another buddy! My husband is so attached to Blu. 😍 This little Chica is going to win everyone’s hearts too! 💜🌸
She’s sleeping a lot probably because she’s decompressing from shelter life. She is comfortable and trusting if she can sleep and relax with you near her. She’s beautiful and oh so lucky to be a traveling doggo!

I lost my Aussie 2 years ago and still shed tears almost weekly over the loss. I’m hopeful I’ll get another one day but I’m still not ready. It’ll be a couple more years at least before I’ll have a home safe for a dog. Give Blue and the new girl all the love good dogs deserve. ❤
Perfect dog for Blue! Meant to be. And small enough to leave room for you in the truck, too. A one year old dog however, is still a puppy. Sure, she has reached frame size, but dogs still fill out and develop muscles after turning one year old and are still developing their personalities.
I am surprised they let you adopt! In my state you have to own your own home, have an eight foot fenced in backyard, plus have references from a vet and a dog sitter, and if you have a husband you need him with you, oh and no kids under the age of seven... it's so strict they discourage people from adopting!

I'm a big proponent of taking classes to learn things the right way from day one, as opposed to just jumping in and perhaps learning bad habits. I learned to ride a streetbike at 30 through a Honda course. My husband had been riding for years, never bothered to get his M1, and wanted to just teach me. No thank you. I wanted to learn the right way. Fast forward.. I was the first one with an M1, and he later took the course because it enabled students to avoid having to take the riding portion of the dmv test. Sixteen years later and we still love riding together! Enjoy your offroad adventures as a family of 3! ❤
There were several cute dogs roaming around Gouldings campground and the staff said to ignore them, don't feed them and don't leave your shoes outside (they are apparently shoe thieves!) They say they aren't stray but they ard always runnjng loose. Shepard mixes. Thank you for saving that baby!!!

Our dogs sleep in their crate overnight. They feel safe in the crate.

I'm so glad Blue has taken to your rescue and you chose a rescue dog!!!! It drives me nuts when people choose a breeder dog. You can find purebreds from rescue shelters. By the way your Miss Thing is soooo precious!!!! You'll be able to train her easily. I think Blue having a sibling will be great for both of you!!! Yeaaaaa!!!!
But why did the rescue not give the dog a bath after a year old. Even if it was turned over a day ago. Why no bath. Rescues are sometimes dog hoarders who loose control of their situation. A lot of times we rescue just to get them away from the shelter they are in. Rescuers beware.
Purebred doesn’t mean well bred. Ethically bred dogs rarely, if ever, end up in shelters. If they do, ethical breeders will always fight to get their dogs back. Adopt OR shop responsibly. Rescue dogs can be unpredictable in their health and temperament, it’s totally ok if someone chooses a breed that aligns with their lifestyle and does the work to find an ethical breeder proving, health testing, and preserving their breed.
If there is one person who should have two dogs, heck two thousand dogs its you ! You are as loving as it gets with dogs, she is so lucky to have you.

You could name her Turquoise after the blue stone from that part of the country, to tie in with Blue and to acknowledge her past that brought her to you guys. 💙

Ria, River & Blue - has a nice ring to it!
Your new pup would love a biothane longline!! Since she’s a little skittish, being on a long line will give her more space from people until she adjusts fully! It will also give her more freedom to sniff and play around safely. I use a 30 footer and when I’m at camp I let it drag around. This helps to teach them recall and staying in your bubble also ☺️ Biothane cleans nicely too and is awesome for desert dwelling as it’s easier to get cacti out of.
Definitely clip the longline to a harness, I recommend ruff wears front range hi and light as it’s light, comfy, has good padding, and has a little pocket to put their ID/rabies info in! That way the tags don’t jingle or get caught on something.
I can tell miss thang is going to be so loved! It’s amazing you rescued her and she now gets to go on all these awesome adventures with you and blue. I love seeing dogs live a lifestyle that resembles that of their ancestors! It’s so good for them to spend majority of their time outdoors ❤

We worked with Mini Aussie Rescue for years. We took all of the “under breed standard” “runts” 😂. She looks like a Mini with a tail! Definitely a high mix. Absolutely beautiful! We love that you adopted another buddy! My husband is so attached to Blu. 😍 This little Chica is going to win everyone’s hearts too! 💜🌸
She’s sleeping a lot probably because she’s decompressing from shelter life. She is comfortable and trusting if she can sleep and relax with you near her. She’s beautiful and oh so lucky to be a traveling doggo!

I lost my Aussie 2 years ago and still shed tears almost weekly over the loss. I’m hopeful I’ll get another one day but I’m still not ready. It’ll be a couple more years at least before I’ll have a home safe for a dog. Give Blue and the new girl all the love good dogs deserve. ❤
Perfect dog for Blue! Meant to be. And small enough to leave room for you in the truck, too. A one year old dog however, is still a puppy. Sure, she has reached frame size, but dogs still fill out and develop muscles after turning one year old and are still developing their personalities.
I am surprised they let you adopt! In my state you have to own your own home, have an eight foot fenced in backyard, plus have references from a vet and a dog sitter, and if you have a husband you need him with you, oh and no kids under the age of seven... it's so strict they discourage people from adopting!
Underdog is VERY good about adoptions! All vanlifers/nomads are welcome to adopt :)

I'm a big proponent of taking classes to learn things the right way from day one, as opposed to just jumping in and perhaps learning bad habits. I learned to ride a streetbike at 30 through a Honda course. My husband had been riding for years, never bothered to get his M1, and wanted to just teach me. No thank you. I wanted to learn the right way. Fast forward.. I was the first one with an M1, and he later took the course because it enabled students to avoid having to take the riding portion of the dmv test. Sixteen years later and we still love riding together! Enjoy your offroad adventures as a family of 3! ❤

There were several cute dogs roaming around Gouldings campground and the staff said to ignore them, don't feed them and don't leave your shoes outside (they are apparently shoe thieves!)
