I love your style so much also I can’t even believe how amazing you are that you are literally recording UA-cam videos with a newborn your like a real super mom
Laini always coming through with the hard hitting facts. Everyday people are the real inventors of fashion because we work with what we have and we’re not trying to be drenched in designer. Paying attention to what we see walking around makes a bigger difference than a vogue article telling people what they want them to wear. Also I mentioned messenger bags and I’m so glad we’re on the same page because I missed those things 😂
I think the color baby pink will be huge this year, the “grunge” style will come back, and very colorful tights will be in.. maybe in the summer we will start wearing them more with shorts kinda like the 60s/70s look. I also think the “preppy” look will be back kinda like summer from 500 days of summer. I’m excited for this year!
I totally think the grunge Tumblr fashion will be in full swing (if its not already) I could totally see that happening. Also if 70s fashion comes back in style I'll be so happy. Everything I wear now has a slight 70s influence haha
@@SaccharineCHNOS That’s the word I was looking for!! I really love that style, it’s how I dressed in middle school & early high schools I wore lace tights or floral tights & I felt so weird at times but now I see it becoming a trend & it really makes me feel like I was ahead of the time with my style. I’ve always loved fashion, I’m just excited to see what this year brings for everyone :)
Yes, please do the reacting to who would wear vogue fashion prediction because they occasionally come up with the craziest stuff and I'm like, realistically, who besides people on the fashion industry are gonna wear that ?
Crossbody bags are the way to go imo. Actually never hopped on the shoulder bag trend and probably never will. Shoulder bags might look cute but I need my hands. I'm also forgetful af and will lose the bag if it's not literally on my body.
Here in Japan shorts in the wintertime are really trendy right now, especially black leather shorts with knee-high black boots. The funny thing is that Japanese people tend to dress more modestly than people in the U.S. so I've actually seen more girls wearing shorts in the winter than in the summer !
sameee!! i even sometimes feel uncomfortable wearing shorts in the summer, bc of the sheer amount of people wearing just full on jeans. but in the winter time, i always see girls wearing super tiny skirts/shorts with boots and just wonder how theyre not freezing to death!!!
@@ellixadore9699 i wear skirts even on cold days lmao 😂 i AM freezing my butt off but no fear… i feel more confident in cute skirts so 🥲 it’s worth it for me lol, i stay in the school all day besides when i’m waiting for my bus to come so for 20 minutes i’m suffering from the cold
I just think its wild because my memory of all these trends feels too recent. Like lookbook, tumblr 2011+ days, all this stuff was big. And I had a healthy collection of metallic shoes and bags from even before then. I feel like people are just recycling stuff extra quick and I'm kinda here for it because I never get rid of anything and its great finding more inventory of the stuff I've always liked lol.
I see a lot of 2010s vibes coming back in, with the Tumblr girl revival and the soft pastel pink grunge and sling bags and striped tees, colored pants, obviously with the 2020s touch to it
right like i feel like were gonna see a lot of striped tops cause it kinda ties back into the french girl aesthetic that was trending last year and i feel like people like alexa chung are gonna bridge the gap between those two trends also a lot of fishnets and knee socks along w the tights laini was talking about
I just want you to know it makes me so so so so happy that you actually considered that not everyone is the same color as most fleece lined tights that you can buy on Amazon, and you took the time to give people a hack that would allow them to still wear the tights without them being the wrong shade. Literally you were already my favorite fashion UA-camr but that right there solidified your position for me. ❤
omg im so glad you told the story about that fashion forecaster!! people who think high-end fashion is everything tend to be stuck in Vogue trends. and that always bothered me so much!!!! also ur fashion sense is unbelievably amazing. like i've never thought bangles would be trending any soon but after watching how u describe bangles for future trend, i def see them coming. agreed on everything u said on this video. laini a real girl boss!!!!
as a retail worker in a small town I so feel what you mean when you say, "what normal people are wearing". We get a bunch of teenagers coming in looking for very specific styles and cuts of clothes that we don't have, but we do have 'watered-down' versions of the trends. Our company orders things in tangent with trends, but makes sure that we carry more accessible versions of the trending items. Like we have Levi's 94 Baggy',s but they're not the kind of baggy that trend followers are searching for, they're a wider straight cut jean. But they're more functional than way because 1. people aren't buying just to buy the trend and 2. they still 'feel' like you're dressing 'in-style'. I think that conversation around what fashion looks like outside of not only high end runways, but also large cities and places not chronically influenced by social media is something that people don't look into. Small town fashion is a completely different world and you need to know how to market the items to the people that are usually behind the times. But like I said I like that our store doesn't carry trends to a T, it makes it more authentic and more wearable in the real world.
This is exactly why I prefer your predictions to others. Fashion is so much more organic now. We don’t all follow what the runways tell us to wear. I love the shorts over tights, lace, and black and blue trends. I’m editing a video right now where I did try-ons of all of those trends, so I think you’re spot on. I adore your takes on fashion!
Would LOVE to see you reacting to magazine trend predictions! It would be super interesting, I love the contrast bw normal fashion and high fashion that you bring to your videos.
I feel so seen when you’re describing how you think of what will be trending 😭 literally any time i see something pop up a few times i’m like “oh that’s gonna be a thing” and i’m always right!! What’s crazier is that i made my mom keep some of my clothes from middle/high school clothes because i thought “this’ll come back” and she didn’t believe me for the longest time, but they’ve all started to trend again in these past 3 years 😂
my trend predictions adding to yours: boxing boots, bows (obviously), metallic, onitsuka tigers (they are SO comfy because they were originally made for tai chi), military style, football tops, side parted slick buns
this video reminds me of how I had a viral trend prediction tiktok forever ago where I said lululemon scuba hoodies would come back and sooo many people disagreed but I swear I see them everywhere recently
it's always so reassuring to have you predict things i've already been wearing or seeing patterns in the real world (: still sad bloomers got big bc now they're $50+ but you're always right!
Love these. Underwear/shorts in the winter probably won’t be something I’ll do, though never say never. The others are classics to me. One of my favorite black/blue combos is dark blue jeans and a black cashmere turtleneck. I used to avoid mixing gray with beige, but now I love it and am seeing a little more of it. I also am liking nylon bags for winter (so practical), whether Prada or Prada-like messengers or Longchamp Le Pliage.
just gonna say it, everything Laini has influenced me on is so accessible either at to thrift/buy online secondhand or i can DIY it. queen of fashion + filming for us while taking care of a baby??? we are not worthy fr
This list is so accurate especially bc you broke down the trend into something specific. I think you nailed it and now I’m gonna need a Prada messenger bag 😂
I agree with you 1000%, the magazines and fashion forecasters I've often found to be NOT what actually influencers and girls I follow are wearing, your intuition is 100% on point. I follow what my fashion lover Instagrammers and UA-camrs are wearing and not necessarily fashion companies, with let's be honest, staff who are older and not necessarily as real life trendy imo.
Been wearing the brown and black/ navy blue and black outfits since last year and I LOVE them.. but it definitely look so much stylish when you add some white/off white pieces
When I was a fashion student in 2006, I saw a photo on Vogue of a runway model wearing a matching set outfit which has not been trendy since the 60s. I thought about how we could be going that direction again. And we did.
I hundred percent agree with the lace and underwear as pants predictions. I even think the trends are already coming into fruition and I definitely would want to hop onto them
I once had an ex whose sister told me that black and brown together are disgusting.. as I was wearing black and brown? 🫢 Since then, its been my fav color combo heheh Also, running to the thrift rn for bangles💃🏼
The underwear as pants won’t last very long. It’s so impractical and dysfunctional for fashion. The bloomers have a bit more leeway because they cover up more and are easier to style. That’s said, it’s the kind of trend that people know isn’t realistic, but are infatuated with anyway. That infatuation lasts for a little while as people realize how annoying it is to try to work around the inconveniences of the trend and they get tired of it, causing the pendulum to swing the other way.
agree but disagree, I think it will evolve Into shorter shorts that are of similar breathable material (AKA not jeans), I predict we might see the return of leather booty shorts too
agreed that it's impractical and im not down for the undies myself, but also agreed that if it's like a 60's/70's hot short or leather hot short, i am all in. literally heading to ebay right now to peek around 👀
i’m only halfway through the video but the ones mentioned so far are already trendy at the moment. everyone’s wearing shorts with boots both online and irl, messenger bags are being sold in fast fashion stores already (weekday), brown and black and blue and black
yes!! I’ve been wearing black & brown for the past couple of years & let me tell you whoever came up with the anti brown/black combo idea just didn’t want to see fire fits
When you mentioned bangles you brought back memories me at 9 years old wearing my bangles and shaking my hands to make my them rattle to keep my little sister from crying in the grocery store. She loved the sound they made when she was a baby.
I studied trendwatching and we learned that there are different ways to do it, some can predict trends based on a feeling after seeing something twice, and others need to do a full research paper before they’re confinced. I think that when you feel a trend coming back, you’re just very aligned with society so you’re really just feeling society’s needs and have a skill for trend curves and for how trends evolve (for example, in the 2000’s messenger bags were popular, as were cargo pants, so they were linked back then as well, we’re seeing a lot of y2k inspiration still, so why won’t they come back in style at the same time now). I think you’re probably right about all these trends, but I think that the super short shorts might come back in style for us normal people in the summer (the regular denim version or short short biker shorts. Or maybe even combined with the lace trend). Really like your predictions!
BLACK AND BROWN COMBO GIRLIES RISE UPPP! I've always thought they complemented each other well but people have consistently said that they don't and that had put that in my head. As of last year I was like fuck it, I'm gonna wear what I think goes well together.
Every time I go thrifting and find a lace shirt I think of you lol. Haven't bought any of them but I did get lace fingerless gloves and I think they will be so cute to wear under sweaters and leather jackets!
I've heard alot of ppl saying you can't wear brown and black (or navy and black) and i don't get where it comes from. I also think its cute so i'll wear it🥰
I have these red bangles with silver and gold detailing my mom gave me, and I’ve loved wearing them for a long time! I’m excited for everyone else to realize how great they are. I feel like your trend predictions make sense. Idk what that fashion forecaster person was thinking bc I also feel like I can see what you see. The lace and the shorts in the winter and the messenger bags; I see your vision. I get it.
my way of predicting trends is basically whatever I randomly decided I liked/ was cool. Love you laini cause I was just thinking about how cute some of these would be especially the bags (watching twilight) and the bangles (watching old Bollywood movies) and then the winter shorts thing (literally been getting so much shit for wearing the outfit you described to the T). I seriously think that in terms of these fashion trends, it's like a certain group of individuals have the same fashion mindset and then people debate for a couple of months whether they like it or not but ultimately decided it's cute.
messenger bags are great to get second hand because they were so popular a while ago. and if you got a random brand you wouldn't look exactly the same as everyone else. they're not my style personally but i think embroidery or painting on the pockets would be so cute. or just pins if you can't/don't want to do all that
I find that the fashion school people who predict trends just talk about things that have already in or is a niche that has been slowing gaining popularity. So I find there suck cause I already know that is gonna be popular but your trend prediction are always right and are interesting, but just what vogue says.
I think capri pants/leggings are due for a renaissance! I first saw them in Chanel’s spring 2021 collection. That collection (and Chanel in general tbh) didn’t really do much for me but it did hint that capris may be coming back soon. I have also seen capris here and there online, including the pic at 6:25!
you were SO right about the off the shoulder tops, you were the first person i saw even mention them and now they're everywhere. i think it's such a cute look
i LOVE LOVE messenger bags. i use it all the time for uni and its so practical. it carries an entire ipad, headphones and still has space for other shit especially useful for commuting by metro
following the lace trend you said I think sheer clothing is also going to be a trend, like showing your bra or top underneath your sweater or your underwear underneath your skirt. And like those sweaters with the big holes like openwork knit and distressed knit. I think that's going to be really big this 2023 winter/autumn.
i love your view on fashion and style and i love that you believe in liking a certain clothing piece or idea and wearing it as is and wearing it because you genuinely like it, instead of wearing a piece of clothing or jewelery just because of a trend!!
Hey Laini, I love your videos so much! I just thought I’d add that bangles are usually worn by women from the India, South East Asia and Africa as part of tradition and cultural wear and is definitely very symbolic to our community! I just felt like people should know the cultural significance of them for me and many others because it makes a huge difference to us when we feel seen, recognised and respected❤
When you said shorts in the winter I had flashbacks to wearing cut off denim shorts with tights when I was 16. Of course it's gonna be done better this time around but it was so tumblrcore
love hearing your take on trends❤ the navy/brown combo is undefeated!! the only trend i’m iffy on is underwear as outerwear, it might be more popular online than irl. it might work with a more conservative pair of boxer/bloomers to be made appropriate for early lectures since college students prioritize comfort. i could also see it dressed up and worn out to parties by srat girlies. i’ll have to come back to this comment if i start seeing it around campus
Me and my mom have always been big purse people. I joke that she keeps Texas in her purse but as a mom of five and a hustler she needs it lol and now I live in nyc and I definitely need it even tho my mini bags are so cute they’re reserved for dates bc it’s not practical for daily use
I totally agree on the lace! and the long, wide shorts. I make clothes for people and that's the direction i'm going for the next drop and what I've been wearing for the past year-ish. Super comfortable and easy to style
I would love to see you reacting to vogue, WWW, etc. trends and giving your opinion on whether you think they’ll be accurate or not! I love hearing your opinions on trends!! ❤
a lot of these trends aren't for me, but I am definitely excited by the lace/bow trend coming through because 1) it's so accessible 2) you can get really creative with both items 3) I'm a gal who has learned I feel so much more confident in more oversized clothing paired with more feminine things, so the idea of cargo pants + tube top + hair ribbons is giving me everything I need in 2023!! i'm also here for supporting small, sustainable designers in 2023
As someone who is really into 1960s fashion I’m here for the hot pants trend! Will probably be combining them with the colored tights people have been talking about. Or just regular tights! I love the silhouette but don’t like having my full legs bare out in public so I love the two trends as a combo!
I'm so excited about a bunch of trends predictions I've seen for this year... boots with shorts, cowboy boots, messenger bags... I've even heard some people mentioning the boho/hippie style!! I really hope that tailored blouses will come back, especially since they kind of fit in with the y2k trend, I feel like there's a chance they might come back. Also yes please do a reaction to the vogue fashion predictions!!
I bought the adidas samba's secondhand for 25 euro's like years ago because I thought they looked cute on you and you told us your brother said they would be a popular shoe. And look at that trend now. Always take Laini's fashion advise!
the combat boots were such a good idea combo , vid idea you should do a men’s 2023 predictions i love watching you for personality haha but id love to see a men’s video up to you 😊
I’ll never forget London 2009, in the dead of winter, everyone in black sheer tights and underwear as pants with a big sweater on top. With ballet flats for shoes, hair was messy, legs were cold lol. The good ole days lol.
I think that clip in bows are going to make a come back ... the ones that you put in your hair. I think because of how popular hair ribbons have been that hair bows will be next. I kept all of mine and I’m waiting for my moment to wear them again.
i would love to see you react to trend predictions from online magazines etc. because personally, i think they're full of shit a lot of the time. :D their predictions often seem too general to me, like "in spring, we're gonna be seeing a lot more colour" yeah, no shit. that happens every spring. or they often seems to contradict themselves. or they say something is trending right now but it feels super outdated. i'd love to see what you think.
i also recently looked for messenger bags (it's soo hard to find cute, more inexpensive ones for uni) and I stumbled across some by George, Gina & Lucy, the brand that was popular in the 2000s. And I ordered one on their website because they have such cute bags, I was soo surprised! They have the most beautiful colors (orange, pink, pastel etc) and their design is really unique!! Can't reccomend it enough, I think they will also have a comeback!
I found your channel and binge watched your videos with my bf.I'm hoping more colourful rings are in this year, i just love the colours. Also, my bf and i love to watch a male version if you ever plan to make one, we just love your editing style 🥰.

Laini thankyou so much for this, I've been seeing all the trend predictions and kind of finding a lot of them way too flamboyant for everyday!!
Love love that you said about "what normal people are wearing. I love fashion, but you have to figure out what is wearable and what is just hype.
I've heard alot of ppl saying you can't wear brown and black (or navy and black) and i don't get where it comes from. I also think its cute so i'll wear it🥰
Omg I just finished watching your video about gatekeeping and it shookt me to my core you uploaded a new one and actually recorded it the same day 🤣
I have these red bangles with silver and gold detailing my mom gave me, and I’ve loved wearing them for a long time!
I seriously think that in terms of these fashion trends, it's like a certain group of individuals have the same fashion mindset and then people debate for a couple of months whether they like it or not but ultimately decided it's cute.
messenger bags are great to get second hand because they were so popular a while ago. and if you got a random brand you wouldn't look exactly the same as everyone else. they're not my style personally but i think embroidery or painting on the pockets would be so cute. or just pins if you can't/don't want to do all that
i love your trend prediction videos so much
I find that the fashion school people who predict trends just talk about things that have already in or is a niche that has been slowing gaining popularity.
Love this! I recently thrifted an off the shoulder sweater and I love it. I learned that going bra-less and being sweaty is a no no..
Me and my mom have always been big purse people. I joke that she keeps Texas in her purse but as a mom of five and a hustler she needs it lol and now I live in nyc and I definitely need it even tho my mini bags are so cute they’re reserved for dates bc it’s not practical for daily use
I hate the underwear as pants but I'm really into the idea of those color combinations and lace! Definitely want to look for more lace items 🪡🎀🧸
I’ll defiantly be trying the black/blue/brown trend this year. I remember getting negative comments when I started wearing blue/black in the 90’s.
💘
Shorts and boots in winter was soooo popular when I lived in South Korea. People wore wool and jean shorts.
I have a STRONG feeling about the colorful or metallic bangles. Even if they don’t trend, they are just so interesting to add.
your makeup looks so good that monochrome blush onto the eyes looks so pretty
thank you!!!
I'm happy abt the messenger bag, I got mine on September, for school, I just love em
The notification made me smile i was waiting for this video, thank you Laini !
a lot of these trends aren't for me, but I am definitely excited by the lace/bow trend coming through because 1) it's so accessible 2) you can get really creative with both items 3) I'm a gal who has learned I feel so much more confident in more oversized clothing paired with more feminine things, so the idea of cargo pants + tube top + hair ribbons is giving me everything I need in 2023!!
i'm also here for supporting small, sustainable designers in 2023
I love the messenger bag!! The shoulder bag/baguette bag is an embarrassment when you bend over and they sling right off your arm lol
Omg YES
As someone who is really into 1960s fashion I’m here for the hot pants trend! Will probably be combining them with the colored tights people have been talking about. Or just regular tights! I love the silhouette but don’t like having my full legs bare out in public so I love the two trends as a combo!
yesssssss I was thinking 60's too!
Also yes please do a reaction to the vogue fashion predictions!!
sis we're going to need some info on the skincare/makeup routine!!! you are GLOWING
I bought the adidas samba's secondhand for 25 euro's like years ago because I thought they looked cute on you and you told us your brother said they would be a popular shoe. And look at that trend now. Always take Laini's fashion advise!
the combat boots were such a good idea combo , vid idea you should do a men’s 2023 predictions i love watching you for personality haha but id love to see a men’s video up to you 😊
omg I haven't seen a Laini video in so long and she has a daughter now?!? so precious
Yeah I agree with your predictions. I’m already wearing…accept for the bangles and super short shorts…
The baby 🥺🥺❤️❤️ God bless you guys!!!
I would love to see your reactions to other trend predictions from companies like Vogue!
I’ll never forget London 2009, in the dead of winter, everyone in black sheer tights and underwear as pants with a big sweater on top. With ballet flats for shoes, hair was messy, legs were cold lol. The good ole days lol.
I love black with brown and with blue!! ❤
I think that clip in bows are going to make a come back ... the ones that you put in your hair. I think because of how popular hair ribbons have been that hair bows will be next. I kept all of mine and I’m waiting for my moment to wear them again.
im sooo early!!!
i hope u know ure my comfort, u make me feel better in someway.
a big sister i never had & i never knew i needed.
❤️
this video single handedly made me purchase fleece-lined tights and join the laini train, so excited to be one of ur viewers now
❤️💌🫡🚂
i would love to see you react to trend predictions from online magazines etc. because personally, i think they're full of shit a lot of the time.
Got mine from amazon, they are so useful!!
Messenger bags are a huge trend in Australia (especially where I live, Melbourne), and has been since like 2019!
I was about to comment the same thing! Melb has so many people wearing crumpler bags now, i just bought one from an American brand called Timbuk2.
you mentioned capris in a recent video and i just thrifted a pair yesterday i think they could be perfect for the spring
I found your channel and binge watched your videos with my bf.I'm hoping more colourful rings are in this year, i just love the colours. Also, my bf and i love to watch a male version if you ever plan to make one, we just love your editing style 🥰.
i think you’re spot on laini !!!!! ive been wearing my tote with a long strap as a messenger bag and i love it
i love love loveeee wearing shorts and knee high boots, i think it’s such a fun look and i love to dress it up!!!!
I looooooove messenger bags
This is my fav type of videos, I love your style so much !!!
