I think the thing with Emma Chamberlain is that she often wears the ‘trendy’ outfits before they are everywhere so because of that I would say she is really fashionable. She is one of the fashion girls whose style actually influences what everyday people wear and her styling is so accessible but looks put together. Hope that makes sense
Yes I feel like it was fashionable but since everyone loves emma and wants to copy her style what she wears becomes trendy. I feel like almost whenever she wears something all the online boutiques find/make pieces similar to her clothes
well i think emma gets her inspo form pinterest and other small fashion girls but when she wears them like a couple weeks after she sees it now every girl on instagram is wearing it so then it becomes even more trendy
I respect your opinion but disagree. Matching shoes bag, creating monochrome fits is one of the first things you learn when putting together an outfit. And that’s because it looks good! I don’t always abide by this rule personally, but it’s always a go to for me when I don’t have an outfit in mind, matching is just visually pleasing. Because someone matches doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t put together an outfit. Emma’s outfits always look so effortless and polished because she follows this. Except for some outfits like the burgundy botega venetta bag. That outfit was polished and the bag added some visual interest. I understand ur point of view but to me the girl with the orange top looks great. It’s trendy but cute, if it were me I would pair the Marc jacobs green bag u have Bc the orange and magenta play off another since they are complimentary colors. I don’t mean this comment as hate. Just sharing my opinion and point of view :) I love ur vids and channel! Such interesting content
I also commented the thing about the green purse Before I even continued the video 😂😂 glad to see great minds think alike lol. Blue or green purse would make that outfit pop
This is a tricky one and is SO subjective. You can wear all trendy items and make it look stylish. The perfect example is that stunning girl with the big curly hair wearing the white corset top and cargo pants. The items are all trendy, but the way she carried it with her hair and makeup and posture and attitude made stylish. I bet you’re going to get a lot of disagreement in the comments, but it’s a great video idea! Anything like this encouraging debate is fun (I think anyway!) great work.
before i started watching your channel i feel like i would just pick trendy pieces and expect to look fashionable and i didn’t even know there was a difference. but the more i watch and learn, i’m realizing that i can think trends are cute without turning them into my whole wardrobe. and i’m finally finding my personal style?? insane. love you!! it would be so cool if you styled outfits for your subscribers based on their instagram or pinterest.
In my opinion matching bag/purse/accessories can be done fashionably. It’s classy, timeless and can be done in any style. Yes the second (orange prada) was a trendy example, but it can translate to any style.
When I think of fashionable, I always think of the devil wears prada. I feel like you can watch that movie anytime and all of the outfits are still fashionable regardless of time. I feel like mixing trendy pieces with something thrifted or something that you like can make it more fashionable. side note: band tees will always be in style forever!
Lol ive been reading all the comments and i feel like im one of the few that agree with you regarding the whole colour coordinating and matching thing. Its not that it looks bad to coordinate colours in an outfit but it makes so much of a difference if someone can pair things that dont match and aren't so on the nose and still make it work. I feel like it just gives a more effortless vibe.
Put the words right out of my mouth. As you said, matching shoes and bags, etc. doesn't look bad, but because its something anyone can do it doesnt make u fashionable. Someone can say you look put together and I would agree, but theres a difference of looking put together by following fashion rules or by being creative with colors and textures.
A tip I’ve heard for pairing colors and creating color block outfits is to be mindful of the color saturations being close. Play around with it and change out pieces until you like the look!
Love the concept of the video. For me, one thing I find really hard these days is to separate a "fashion crush" from my personal style. I'll see something I like, but I'm not sure if it's something I like because it's me or because I've seen it so often my mind got manipulated into liking it. I still remember hating Birkenstocks when I grew up. As a German village kid, it was the epitome of boring and ugly. Now, 10 years later, I love them and had them now for multiple years. Is it my style, did the influencer world brainwash me, or did I just evolve my style? 😅
omg me too, my German mum always wore birkinstocks and I thought they were so ugly, but now I love them they're so practical. I guess this is the ugly trend that Laini keeps talking about right?
no hate but I have to STRONGLY disagree with the color matching point. I think it looks so nice and put together when your colors match (or maybe I watched too much Best Dressed growing up), and I always think about matching my colors when I get dressed
This video was fashionable. For me it's about lines and form. I feel like the fashionable ones are thinking like a designer. There's something immortal about their composition. Have you seen the documentary "Bill Cunningham New York"? Some good ideas in there.

Lainiii i just love your whole attitude when it comes to fashion! l think as a young woman, its important to know that fashion doesn't always have to be about showing off our assets or designer brands, rather playing with textures, colours and patterns - so thank you for that cute insight
I loved this video sm!! I own the Balenciaga triple s in white and so many tik tokers are saying that "dad shoes are out" or whatever, these used to be like super trendy in 2019 I think, but I honestly love them! They make your legs look so much longer and thinner, they're good for long pants because they can easily stack on them due to the hugeness of the shoes and also that they're seen as "ugly" which I LOVE. I always had a thing for "ugly" clothes because when you make it look cute and get a compliment for that it just feels so good (you probably know what I mean). Saying that wearing non trendy pieces helps adding character and meaning to your outfit has helped me sm for my mindset that I don't need to buy like nb550s or "trendy sneakers" even though I think they're cute. Pls do more of these vids!! I'd love to see like more dressed up outfits in part 2 like slip dresses etc. and I found that one side to side comparison really interesting! I find these videos interesting because where I live no one follows trends, I live in a very small town in Portugal and people just wear what’s practical and comfy.
Not coming after you with hate, but I find that I am disagreeing as the video goes on. Maybe at the beginning you should very clearly define what the words "fashionable" and "trendy" mean to you. It seems to me that the definition is "Laini likes it=fashionable" vs "Laini dislikes it=trendy." As an older person, my standpoint is this: if this person could wear this outfit 20 years from now and not look ridiculous, that's fashionable. But if everyone's going to snicker in a few years--it's trendy. So for me, wearing lingerie as clothing is trendy. It was a trend in the 90s and it's a trend again. Patchwork, trendy. Crazy patterns, trendy. Dad sneakers, trendy (but I love this one). Socks with loafers, trendy (and it was a huge trend in the 1950s). There's nothing wrong with trends, but they come and go. This fall I will be fully embracing the furry hat TREND, and hey, I'm looking forward to it.
BAND TEES are forever, it's even better when you actually listen to and know the music. Honestly, it's a spot on way to showcase authenticity especially if it's a favorite music group in a soft worn in fabric ❤️

I love your videos, you do such a great job. Please don't feel the need to apologize for your opinions ... we tune in to hear them 🥰 anyone that doesnt like hearing them can go scrub. 😘
Hello Laini, could you please make a video on cowboy boots - how to choose them, what are different types, different fits, how to style them, and where to get them.
Definitely agree with your take on monochromatic fits. I think there’s definitely a time and a place for a “matcy matchy” outfit but in general, mixing colors, prints, styles, is what i find the most enjoyable to wear. And since i live in your typical suburban town i kinda love the idea of people looking at me and being like “i don’t get it” 🥰
i personally think the more simplistic outfits are fashionable. like the matchy bag and orange top, i don't like the pants for that one (i hate low rise) , but i think if you don't know what to do with color you can just match and it'll look nice. contrasting and monochrome can be both fashionable and trendy. my style leans more simple and not very trendy though. we have totally different styles lol
I personally with all your points! I feel like when an outfit is super trendy it lacks visual interest which is what I look for in an outfit again not that being trendy is bad or means you don’t look good, it’s just that it’s hard to find that special individuality when your wearing what everyone else is wearing
I 100% agree on matchy matchy outfits. To me they tend to have a very plasticky, fresh out of the box type look. Like, they just seem to lack any personal styling, as if they were bought as a set. ofc if anyone likes it that’s fine and i’m not going to judge them for that, but it’s just not for me
Hardcore agree with you about adding loved pieces to your wardrobe to make it look fashionable, even if they look worn in/beat up/don't flatter the best, cause fashion, like any other art form, eventually is about authenticity and individuality.
I do feel you on the matching colours thing. Sometimes it works, but for some reason it comes off as too rehearsed or too put together to me at least. I like the contrasting colours because it seems effortless, more natural.
The outfit at 9:00 deeply perplexes me. I truly mean no hate to anyone who dresses like that but I cannot stand the new dad-core energy. Y'all will literally just throw on any ol clothes from the thrift and call it a vibe. I'm sort of just over it? Wheres the intentionality????????
An idea just popped into my head: if there's a style that you'd AVOID because "the powers that be" declare it to be no longer on trend, then THAT'S trendy vs fashionable. Or the flip side would be, if there's something you'd wear for the *sole* reason that's it declared on trend, that's trendy. People like Ashley I'd consider to be a trendsetter (among many others) so she's going to avoid the most current thing, she wants to be ahead of the curve...maybe she'd deny that, but come on, she calls herself "best dressed," so I think it's fair to assume. There's always going to be a comment like, "Just wear what you want, it's not that important, blah blah blah," YES that is true of course but that's not the reason we watch fashion videos is it? We want to mix things up, I want to put things I already own together in a different way.
love your videos! In my opinion, trendy vs stylish is a very subjective thing. I think it relates more to the internal feeling you have or confidence boost you get from wearing an outfit than the objective "rules" that the fashion community can carry. If you feel like yourself and confidant in an outfit even when you are not constantly receiving complements from the people around you because it is "on-trend", then that is fashionable for your own personal style which is all that really matters :)
Laini I REALLY want a video by you now that is just you styling super trendy pieces like the tiny shoulder bag in more fashionable ways that are less trendy, like unlikely combos and such! I just got a brown mini shoulder bag and sometimes I feel like I'm leaning towards trendy and not fashionable and I hate it lol
I personally love matchy matchy fits and - to go one step further - monochromatic fits. However, I guess what you‘re saying. It can sometimes be a bit too predictable :)
Nah matching shoes to belt and bag is a staple of work wear and suiting. People can mix and match well in complementary colors and be a bit more 'advanced' on the style spectrum, but matching is not a sign of not knowing how to dress. Clashing accessories that are not complementary is a sign of not knowing how to dress ( ex. brown belt, black shoes, and neither matching the outfit well colorwise).
Firstly I wanna say I love your channel and I respect your opinion. I feel like you’re over thinking it lol. Clothes are clothes. But an outfit, a thoughtfully put together outfit stands out. And that…. No matter if it has trendy pieces or not…. is fashionable. Also, you can’t really say that fashionable and trendy are different. Trends are a part of fashion. And so something can be fashionable with trendy pieces in it. Someone can be wearing a totally trendy outfit and it is still fashionable. Just a specific style of fashion. Also, matchy matchy is not a trend. It is a style. There is a difference.
omg I was shocked you said 11:28 was fashionable, that outfit is 100% trendy imo 😂😭 Those green reverse stitching cargo pants are so stale to me I've seen them everywhere, also am I the only one who thinks that docs just scream 2010-20s 😩 her top is amazing though, gives major Marilyn Monroe inspiration however also reminds me of the With Jean and Orse und Iris tops coming out lately. I think she definitely did a great job at pairing the items together in a fun way but it's just so trendy to me. You really threw me off with your comments about the fit, usually I agree with you but this time I guess we agree to disagree ahaha
i think the trends people are most likely to regret are getting pieces they don’t like besides the trend. also i really like the nirvana tee and dress outfit.
i looove love love these types of videos from you! i know that fashion is subjective yada yada but i feel that your view on the topic is always fresh. hoping for a part 2!
I don't know if fashionable is the right way to classify it, but 100% agree on clothes not having to be traditionally flattering. I feel most confident in "unflattering" clothes bc they tend to be more interesting and new, it feels like i'm free to wear things I'm drawn to instead of things which make me look "acceptable". Same idea with adding an "ugly" piece. Used to say that I didn't feel like myself in an outfit unless it contained at least one man repelling piece, maybe its a personality thing but it makes me feel less constrained somehow
This really opened my perspective and while I agree/disagree with your opinions I loved the concept of this video and hearing your take :) specifically when you talked about not wanting to be a walking trend catalog from urban outfitters 😂 that came for me but also really resonated with me. I’m at a weird transition in my style with moving to a new climate and figuring out what my personal style is since I quit social media. It’s freeing and fun but I also feel a little lost, it’s made me realize how reliant I’ve become on trends and it feels as though I’m starting with scratch to learn about fashion! Happy I just found your channel
i remember you said you like being on trend in one of ur videos before.fashionable or trendy can be cute at the same time.there’s nothing wrong about that.😂
You should make a video where you go thru subreddits like r/streetwear, r/outfits, r/womenstreetwear, r/fashionadvice, etc and give opinions or advice! Love ur vids
I feel like the things you find "not trendy" are actually extremely trendy but you've been influenced by the trends without you knowing. Not saying it's a bad thing. We all get influenced every day.
i kind of agree with your point on the matching colors because realistically if you have the pieces to match items exactly in a trending color its likely that youre just buying a lot of new trending items and sticking them together, it generally reads more fast fashion to me and less skill and creativity
Hey I love this video! I was about to go on a big haul for all the trendy fall stuff and this let me pause for a minute. Thanks for the perspective and best of luck with the baby :)
a great fun video 💕 as much as i always want to be fashionable you can't help but give in to trends or be swayed by trends sometimes. as long as you have your own sense of personal style then that's okay! playing and having fun with fashion is my favourite thing 🥰💖
I think the right title for this is stylish vs fashionable , being fashionable i think for me is having all the trendy clothes and stylish its like having ur own style.... I dunno what im speaking about ahahhahahahahahhaa. Your meaning of fashionable is like the meaning for stylish . P.s I love you haahhahahabaha
I would love to watch one of your videos where you show outfits like these but only the ones you find fashionable! Cause this video got me kinda confused… still very interesting!
it's easy to define trendy than fashionable. It can easily be seen what stuffs are trendy recently, you can use some tools to scrape datas. But the complexity of finding a practical assessment method to evaluate what goods or person are fashionable makes the word fashionable hard to define.
When you showed the girls in green shirts and blue skirts, I liked the girl on the right with the tie front top better because she has more interest to her outfit. I like the flowy silhouette with tight jean skirt and the dainty white shoes match the vibe of the dainty purse without them having to be the same color. I think the girl on the left is more trendy because size see through tops will never last as long as solid ones in my option and she looks like she got her clothes from fast fashion
Once again great video Laini. It would also be very interesting to hear ur take on some celebrity fashion choices, maybe you would consider making a video about Zoe Kravitz's fashion in the series, 'high fidelity, and whether you think her outfits are trendy or fashionable. I just had this conversation with a friend but I would love to hear your perspective :) :)
I always pair my blue orange sneakers with orange and blue tops or sunglasses. AND I ALWAYS GET COMPLIMENTS. Orange amd blue are absolutely a banger and i own to many pieces in these colors not to be matchy matchy. So hard disagree on that point

I feel like when an outfit is super trendy it lacks visual interest which is what I look for in an outfit again not that being trendy is bad or means you don’t look good, it’s just that it’s hard to find that special individuality when your wearing what everyone else is wearing
im not sure if someone pointed it out already but the girl with the green shirt and blue skirt is wearing a tank air set!!
You inspire me to pretty much just wear what I want! Your vids are the best
I just got a brown mini shoulder bag and sometimes I feel like I'm leaning towards trendy and not fashionable and I hate it lol
loved this video so much
I personally love matchy matchy fits and - to go one step further - monochromatic fits. However, I guess what you‘re saying. It can sometimes be a bit too predictable :)
I love monochromatic!!! All one color, to me, is different than only one color for just the accessories
Nah matching shoes to belt and bag is a staple of work wear and suiting. People can mix and match well in complementary colors and be a bit more 'advanced' on the style spectrum, but matching is not a sign of not knowing how to dress. Clashing accessories that are not complementary is a sign of not knowing how to dress ( ex. brown belt, black shoes, and neither matching the outfit well colorwise).
watching ur vids bring me so much comfort🥰
There is a difference.
omg I was shocked you said 11:28 was fashionable, that outfit is 100% trendy imo 😂😭
Those green reverse stitching cargo pants are so stale to me I've seen them everywhere, also am I the only one who thinks that docs just scream 2010-20s 😩 her top is amazing though, gives major Marilyn Monroe inspiration however also reminds me of the With Jean and Orse und Iris tops coming out lately. I think she definitely did a great job at pairing the items together in a fun way but it's just so trendy to me. You really threw me off with your comments about the fit, usually I agree with you but this time I guess we agree to disagree ahaha
love these videos btw, always so much to talk about!!
I didn’t understand the tip you gave in the second outfit Can someone explain it to me please
i think the trends people are most likely to regret are getting pieces they don’t like besides the trend. also i really like the nirvana tee and dress outfit.
i looove love love these types of videos from you! i know that fashion is subjective yada yada but i feel that your view on the topic is always fresh. hoping for a part 2!
Queen youre glowing
ok but if u made a podcast it would be everything!!!!! i love ur fashion affirmations
when i dress down trendy pieces my go to is 2010 department store shit bc that’s normally ugly and or out of style and it works every time
Love this video totally agree with so many of your points. Tooo matchy matchy is so different than chic monochrome. The girls who get it get it~
EXACTLY. U get it
Honestly, I don’t think band tees will ever go away
Love ur vids
always love the content 💚 a constant reminder to try and use your wardrobe to express yourself ⭐️
this video idea is so great, please do more of these!!!
I feel like the things you find "not trendy" are actually extremely trendy but you've been influenced by the trends without you knowing. Not saying it's a bad thing. We all get influenced every day.
7:53 do we know where this sweater is from?? I’d die to have it.
i kind of agree with your point on the matching colors because realistically if you have the pieces to match items exactly in a trending color its likely that youre just buying a lot of new trending items and sticking them together, it generally reads more fast fashion to me and less skill and creativity
Hey I love this video! I was about to go on a big haul for all the trendy fall stuff and this let me pause for a minute. Thanks for the perspective and best of luck with the baby :)
So excited for the new vid!! Great start to the morning ❤
a great fun video 💕 as much as i always want to be fashionable you can't help but give in to trends or be swayed by trends sometimes. as long as you have your own sense of personal style then that's okay! playing and having fun with fashion is my favourite thing 🥰💖
i like the green top denim skirt outfit more, but i would just wear white sneakers with it
I think the right title for this is stylish vs fashionable , being fashionable i think for me is having all the trendy clothes and stylish its like having ur own style.... I dunno what im speaking about ahahhahahahahahhaa. Your meaning of fashionable is like the meaning for stylish .
P.s I love you haahhahahabaha
I actually liked the orange purse outfit I would wear it with longer sleeves ♥️♥️
I 100% agree on the “matchy matchy” take. I always hated matchy matchy looks and couldn’t figure out why, but you really laid out exactly how I felt
those platform flip flops are from The Row! BTW I wonder what's your thoughts on minimal high end brands like The Row, Toteme, Studio Nicholson, etc?
your hair are gorgeous!!!!
I would love to watch one of your videos where you show outfits like these but only the ones you find fashionable! Cause this video got me kinda confused… still very interesting!
learned a lot from this video thank you! ur making me go thru a fashion renaissance ❤️
That’s Linmick on the left at 16:44!
Love ur style laini
“this person” ma’am that is Paloma Elsesser hahaa
Hahaha idk who that is sorry I’m dumb
it's easy to define trendy than fashionable. It can easily be seen what stuffs are trendy recently, you can use some tools to scrape datas. But the complexity of finding a practical assessment method to evaluate what goods or person are fashionable makes the word fashionable hard to define.
Heyyy I love this channel SM💗💗
When you showed the girls in green shirts and blue skirts, I liked the girl on the right with the tie front top better because she has more interest to her outfit. I like the flowy silhouette with tight jean skirt and the dainty white shoes match the vibe of the dainty purse without them having to be the same color. I think the girl on the left is more trendy because size see through tops will never last as long as solid ones in my option and she looks like she got her clothes from fast fashion
pls try on different outfits again! love u laini
I love to mix up my outfits but I always wear the same purse. it’s just my thing at this point. accessorising advice is always lost on me.
Love these kind of videos
I loved this!
does anyone know who the girl with the curls and green pants is?
Once again great video Laini. It would also be very interesting to hear ur take on some celebrity fashion choices, maybe you would consider making a video about Zoe Kravitz's fashion in the series, 'high fidelity, and whether you think her outfits are trendy or fashionable. I just had this conversation with a friend but I would love to hear your perspective :) :)
my favourite human is back!
I always pair my blue orange sneakers with orange and blue tops or sunglasses. AND I ALWAYS GET COMPLIMENTS. Orange amd blue are absolutely a banger and i own to many pieces in these colors not to be matchy matchy. So hard disagree on that point
@laini maybe you can do a video of outfits you dont like like matchy matchy stuff and change one-two items to fit your style!
I just LOVE your videos!😘
Lovely job, Laini!🌸🌸❤️❤️
is your intro song no woman by whitney ?
The girl on the left at 16:41 is linmick and her outfit is tank air 😍
The sweater with all the logos is a wearable art piece about originality by Laura Dalgaard
I like before I even watch because I know it's going to be a good video
The matching your bag, shoes, and accessories theory screams the show What Not to Wear to me. 🥴
Omg
Love the thesis baby
