I always thought that 30 million dollars was a bit much for a musical, so I actually looked for the price of a Broadway musical, which I assume that Hidgens would agree to nothing less than Broadway. The average price for a Broadway musical is 8-12 million dollars, and with the pitch he gives, I assume that Workin' Boys would be on the cheaper side. So the question is: WHY DOES HE NEED 4 TIMES THE AMOUNT FOR THIS PLAY!?! WHAT IS HE PLANNING!?!
upon rewatch, i think it’s really interesting the types of weapons that bill and alice use. alice’s gun reflects how she wants to be kept at a distance, while bill’s mallet reflects how he wants to make close contact with her
I have generalised anxiety disorder and panic disorder, Alice having a panic attack meant a weird amount, the stress afterwards, the healthy way it was stopped, her general portrayal of a panic attack was actually accurate. It made me feel more seen than I ever expected
I think all the Hatchetfield shows are about someone's worst fears coming true. In TGWDLM, it was Paul's, because he doesn't like musicals and his life became one, and most of his friends were killed or apotheosisized because of it. In Black Friday, it was General McNamara's because he had to face the fact that the country he loves is actually not so great as he watches the world he has sworn to protect fall apart. In The Hatchetfield Ape Man, it was Lucy's fiance's worst fear because he knew what was going on, but she fell in love with someone else, then he died. Plus, she was right all along about there being an Ape Man. And in WatcherWorld, it was Alice's worst fear because she had to deal with her dad, who basically confirmed that he didn't like her and tried to kill her, all while having to sit through something both disturbing and childish instead of being able to prevent Deb cheating on her (and she had to face her fear of heights).
Now all we need is a bunch of kids who make complicated inventions and an animal with a fedora and starkid musicals can be considered a Phineas and Ferb au.
@@_.elena_ I could riff off some other exciting places in Hatchetfield... but I won't put NMT spoilers here! Those who have seen ep 2 will know what I'm referring to!
Ted loved “A Show Stopping Number” so much that in this one, (I don’t know how the hatchetfeild time thing works), he’s now working with proffessor hidgens to make it a reality and I think that’s beautiful and I love it.
In the Ape Man timeline, TGWDLM never happened, but since all characters seem to essentially retain their personality traits, it's perfectly possible that Ted got to know Hidgens some other way (might have been thru Paul and Emma dating, but also Hatchetfield is both a shithole town and an island, so it's not surprising if, among locals, everyone knows everyone), heard his pitch and vowed to help him produce the show no matter what, being such a fan of it
The Watchers story had me in tears I’m so happy that it had a happy ending Also now there are 2 musicals that I would pay to see 1. Working boys 2. Every single one of Alice’s plays
30 MILLION for the musical?? Okay but honestly, why am I surprised at professor Hidgens and his lack of reference to money, the guy lives in a fortress!
Bill helping Alice down the stairs and asking about her at as shes having a panic attach is some of the best writing I've ever seen. And Cory and Mariahs acting is just phenomanal in that scene.

1:47:00 So Matt improvised the underscoring throughout the whole show?? The talent in this company I am constantly amazed! Like he fully brought in character motifs and themes from other shows. I was sitting there thinking that the music was so clever and it was all improvised???!!!
Exactly!!! Lord, when bits of Not Your Seed came in during Watcherworld I lost my sh*t. And when Hidgens is telling Lucy to marry him or die, and Matt plays Join Us -or- and Die? Brilliant. And how could I forget the iconic chords of Show Stoppin' Number whenever Hidgens' love of theatre/ Workin' Boys came up! And (!!!) when he wasn't expertly referencing past music, the music that was completely improvised was always spot on for the scene all on its own! Gosh, he's incredible.
Okay I need to mention more things. - The music from TGWDLM's "Okay" scene being used at 1:08:45 which is so perfectly fitting (edit: corrected TGWDLM's spelling) - How that "aliens invading minds" melody, the one at the start of both The Ape-Man and Watcherworld, pops up everywhere - Finishing with Inevitable! (!!!) (!!!!!)
@@weesalikesmilktea4829 the scoring that i especially noticed was the use of ‘not your seed’ through the watcher world story but ESPECIALLY near the end when things are starting to patch up in a bittersweet way the motif from the like ‘why does it hurt to love you’ breakdown from the original song started playing!! blew my entire mind! it’s so perfect bc the og song felt like alice regaining and bit of herself for a moment during that breakdown and now it’s used in a similar way here when they’ve broken the spell of Blinky for eachother. story telling through scores is so incredibly under appreciated
I cannot be the only one who loves the line: "Welcome to America, you tea-taxing son of a bitch." Like, I get Hidgens is crazy and all but dang. The way he said it was great.
(SPOILERS) It may sound silly but I think I could write a whole essay on Watcher World specifically when it comes to Alice's relationship to Bill. I usually find these daddy-daughter relationships in genre stuff insufferable; you can feel the mean spirited bullshit of the middle-aged man writing it. The daughters are generally either helpless victims or given heavy handed "respect yo' father spoilt little girl" arcs, often both in the worst circumstances. Here, Alice saves herself as much as her Dad saves her and the reconciliation isn't capped with her being shamed or greatly humbled, but simply throwing her Dad a bone because she knows he deserves it. I kinda love it personally because while the narrative acknowledges Alice's flaws, it doesn't necessarily shame her for them which I appreciate.
Trail To Oregon and Hatchetfield are now connected: In Trail to Oregon, Jack Bauer (I don't know if that's spelt correctly) straight up swallows snake venom then becomes high as fuck and sees the audience. He refers to us as the watcher with a thousand eyes. What does Blinky apparently have? a thousand eyes. This could mean that Blinky has been around since 1800s and has been watching Jeff and his many characters become insane over and over again Thank you for coming to my Headcannon TED talk :)
To add onto this, I think the Hatchetfield musicals and TTO are connected somehow. I forget which song it was since my playlist was on shuffle, but in a TTO song, Craphole sings something about “ring-a-ling-ding” and I haven’t seen every Starkid musical, but I only ever heard Chris Kringle sing those exact words. Also both musicals deal with musical(s) with different endings and stuff like that, idk. Just a little theory of mine.
When Alice is explaining her play to Bill he was just being so encouraging like sounds great even when all she had said was that there was a girl. When she said that there was a vampire he was all like sounds scary, but when she said that it was a comedy he said sounds funny and Bill was such a good dad at that moment
@@somnodaur8064 I'm sorry, I don't think it's immature to be upset that you got ripped away from everything you knew by a man who keeps infantilizing you. Add to that, Bill refuses to accept what she wants to do with her life until he uses it to distract her. All "good parent" points earned by that moment are nullified when you realize that he is the reason they're up there. He asks why she doesn't tell him stuff but he belittles what she does tell him. The Alice he has in his head is no longer accurate to how his daughter actually thinks now. Instead of learning who his daughter is now, he tries to force her back to the way she was. This is what happens a lot with homophobic/transphobic parents. Their child isn't the way they want them to be so they think they can just fix it at the expense of the child. I don't think he's malicious, I just think that he needs to be willing to accept that who his daughter dates is not his choice. He should talk to her about what is and isn't a healthy relationship and have an open conversation with her is he really wants to do something. Separating her from that person is just going to make things worse. Then they become star-crossed lovers and it becomes us vs them. This is going to leave Alice with issues with authority if it hasn't already. I know this because I've seen it over and over and over again with my friends parents while living in the suburban midwest.
@@Galfuria_to be clear, Bill isn't homophobic, he just hates Deb, the girlfriend, specifically. At least in the apotheosis universe. That doesn't make his behavior any better, I just thought it was important for context.
@@alexjewett7455 I never said he was. my point would be exactly the same regardless of Debs gender. another good point that I didn't put in that comment is the line "Did you know that I wanted to live with you and when you needed to fight you gave her that too" from not your seed in tgwdlm. it shows that he's really not willing to put in the work to parent her and just wants to do the more fun stuff he would do with her as a child rather than give her a stable father figure.

Okay so Drowsey Town is part of the park, in this universe at least I personally believe Wiggly has some sort of attraction and restaurant there, as he would be a friend of Blinky
Around 1:38:23, someone in the chat said "Watcherworld is an allegory for peer pressure and social media," and I think that is a fantastic takeaway from this.
I don’t think anything after the roller coaster can be held against him because of Blinky, and it shows he really loves Alice that he was able to overcome it. But the drop in morality comes more from things like his initial ignoring of her wanting to be a playwright and his eagerness to have her break up with Deb, even if it meant Deb had to cheat on her. We knew he wasn’t fond of Deb, but what looked like legitimate but incorrect concern in TGWDLM is revealed here to be a lot deeper and less founded.
My thoughts about what just went down (spoilers ahead, I’ll also probably add to this later): - PROFESSOR HIDGENS IS BACK AND THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY - Lucy is a ray of sunshine personified - Joey acting like an ape man - Is it Konk? Or Conk? It probably doesn’t matter but I wanna know - Oh, it’s Tarzan but horror - Oh, she’s gonna fall in love with him - Angela with a british accent is adorable and we better see more of it - The way nick said “The black and white,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tiles-“ - Nick is a fantastic narrator and I violently applaud him - KURT WITH A BRITISH ACCENT IS SO SEDUCTIVE AND HIS COSTUME- SIR THIS IS A WENDYS - OF COURSE IT’S FREAKING TED - Did Ted really do that? Like actually? He’s such a jerk I mean- - So that’s why Joey was growing a beard - Alice deserves better but it was much easier for me to sympathize with Bill because Alice really was acting like a brat - Bill is trying his best and it makes me sad because he’s such a supportive Dad and he loves Alice so much - Bill said something about someone he knew dying on the roller coaster that had poor hear conditions or something. Is this hot chocolate boy? He has very low blood sugar

Ok I have a crazy theory: What if Ted's younger brother is Ethan? Ted's last name is a spoiler right? so it would make sense if Ethan is his brother because we already know his last name and revealing Ted's last name would give away the fact that are related which could be relevant later on, and they just don't want us to know yet. Bc Cineplex Teen doesn't have a last name so Ted's last name wouldn't be a spoiler in that case (unless of course that is still true and the Ted last name is some other spoiler) Edit: Ooh ooh! ok so unless I heard incorrectly, he said Ted's brothers (plural) so what if Professor Hidgens (if that is his real name) is one of his brothers and that's why they are working together

Lubowich 😉. Especially impressive considering Corey also has all the Wayward Guide stuff going on this month- including livestreams on the same days starting next week.
@Alex James As a pianist who absolutely sucks at improv (I'm more of a sight-reader), I, absolutely stan Matt Dahan. The fact that he improved the entirety of the background music for the entire show is astounding.
Once Rob went, “Lucy, I’m HoooOoooome!” And “Lucy, you’ve got some ‘splainin to do!” I knew they made her name Lucy just to make the _I Love Lucy_ references
@Ty The Great I fucking asked, thinking maybe you were just a dickhead, but no. You're a fucking coward. If you're gonna act like this why post at all. Take ownership of your crap. You make me sick.
Wtf okay why is this so good? Like Starkid has always been super good, but this is super super good. Someone explain. Brain cannot comprehend this much talent
Nick and Matt have always been great at writing solid stories, but over the years they’ve just gotten better and better. The pacing, plot elements, character development and interactions, pretty much EVERY aspect of these 2 stories was spectacularly written. It didn’t feel rushed, but the action kept up at a pace that made the atmosphere tense and exciting the whole time. The characters that we’ve already been introduced to were fleshed out in conversations that were both humorous (but less cheesy than in the past) and emotionally fulfilling, and the new characters were so interesting that I immediately wanted to know more about them. The acting was also great, which it always is, but every actor really brought the characters to life here. Even the ticket booth vendor was so realistic that I felt transported to a creepy carnival in every scene. The background music was perfectly balanced as to not be too loud or intrusive but enhance the chilling atmosphere (and to find out that he was improvising the whole time- so much talent!). Altogether, Starkid brought it at every level in this production and I think it’s one of their finest works so far.
@Sai Xeno Phase The answer to your question is simple really. These stories are more character driven as opposed to Starkid's longer-form stage shows which are more plot driven. If you break it down, The Ape-Man was really focused on Professor Hidgens. Every character in that story serviced his story about doing anything it took to get Workin' Boys made and the ultimate cost of that dream. And Watcher World focused on Bill and Alice. Every other character in that story serviced the story of their broken father/daughter relationship. Because these stories were more character-focused, we got more concentrated performances from the cast; especially the primaries. Also, when you strip away all of the fluff and pageantry of a full stage production and strip it down to having only the actors' performances to rely on to sell a show, you will see where the true talent lies. And in doing just that, Starkid has shown that there is not a weak link among them when it comes to their craft. Every single one of them brought it. So yeah... TLDR: The reason this is so good is a combination of focusing the storytelling and every member of Starkid just being that damned good at what they do.
Also, I don't know if you've ever seen one of their show live, but if you're like me, stuck at the other end of the world and only having access to the digital content, it might be another part of what it's so good here. Theater is not something made to be seen on a screen and when it's not as great as StarKid it can be a nightmare to watch. But here it was made to be enjoyed by this media, so yeah I think it played a part
When Snigglett says “I don’t want to do this anymore,” to us, the watchers with a thousand eyes, and Snigglox, “says Blinky, “Blinky commands it” it’s like Blinky demands that Snigglett stays in the Black and White (as another commenter mentions, it is the script. black in on a white page.). But when Joey starts showing genuine concern for the person playing Snigglett (in this case the starkid, Angela) it becomes real. There’s so much demand to entertain and create content/a marketable product, that it begins to cut into our mental well-being and physical health.

I have generalised anxiety disorder and panic disorder, Alice having a panic attack meant a weird amount, the stress afterwards, the healthy way it was stopped, her general portrayal of a panic attack was actually accurate. It made me feel more seen than I ever expected
Mariah has spoken about her own struggles with anxiety so that's probably why she was able to do it so accurately 🥰

Matt is so goddamn underrated it's not even funny
- The music from TGWDLM's "Okay" scene being used at 1:08:45 which is so perfectly fitting (edit: corrected TGWDLM's spelling)

He’s got some old grudges it seems…
Trail To Oregon and Hatchetfield are now connected:
In Trail to Oregon, Jack Bauer (I don't know if that's spelt correctly) straight up swallows snake venom then becomes high as fuck and sees the audience. He refers to us as the watcher with a thousand eyes. What does Blinky apparently have? a thousand eyes. This could mean that Blinky has been around since 1800s and has been watching Jeff and his many characters become insane over and over again
Thank you for coming to my Headcannon TED talk :)

And maybe Craphole is connected to the Black And White because he can hear animals talking

To add onto this, I think the Hatchetfield musicals and TTO are connected somehow. I forget which song it was since my playlist was on shuffle, but in a TTO song, Craphole sings something about “ring-a-ling-ding” and I haven’t seen every Starkid musical, but I only ever heard Chris Kringle sing those exact words. bill seems like a good dad overall. She’s just being immature about the divorce

Yeah blinky was doing a similar thing to him that wiggly did to everyone else I think

I can’t get over Jon and Mariah laughing hysterically when it isn’t their scene😂
Yh what they said ^^^
Simple: They are all Chorn.
The way Joey made is voice for obnoxious teenager was STUNNING, oh gosh everyone on team starkid is perfect! Love them all!

But when Joey starts showing genuine concern for the person playing Snigglett (in this case the starkid, Angela) it becomes real. There’s so much demand to entertain and create content/a marketable product, that it begins to cut into our mental well-being and physical health.
