    I think that's the coolest gun that has come out in a decade. Affordable, real blue with nice checkered wood grips...yeah...that is something we lost and needed back in a bad way. I'm getting one or two of those. I occasionally carry revolvers and know tons of people that do, both young and old...they make sense for a lot of people in a lot of parts of the country. And we like them. They're beautiful and reliable. And they are excellent for reloaders.

    I was a police officer for 36 years and in 1988 I was promoted to detective which was about a year and a half before we switched to autos, so for that time period I was issued a 3" blued chief special. It was a cool little gun but I think I would have been happier with the model 15 I carried in uniform because I shot better with the 15 and it was a 6 shooter. I was happy when the autos were issued. I enjoyed your video. 👍

    Heritage needs to come out with a top break, nine-shot, .22 revolver. If they do that with some of their other new offerings, they would have a huge market share.

      I just handled an H&R 999 break-open 22 cal. revolver and one on the local gun shop yesterday. It was in good shape with no rust and the shop owner had a price tag of $599.00. I lusted over it for a minute or two but eventually the price tag was too large to take it home.

      Heritage, at least used to not, use strong enough steel. Their rough riders are made of VERY soft metal, and top breaks are a inherently weak design(and super cool), so soft metal and weak design spell disaster.

      These are made by Taurus in Brazil and just sold by Heritage. Taurus has improved drastically in the quality of steel they use now. They are not bad at all. I am serious when I say the BEST trigger of all my polymer pistols is my Taurus TX22. Sounds silly, but it is true.

    That’s a great looking pistol, definitely retro!! I’m a sucker for the old nostalgia guns! Just something about them. But being that it’s new that’s pretty cool coming from the gun industry keeping the past still in the mix of our present times!! Thank you for sharing!!

      Agreed I owned a Smith model 36 with a blade rear sight. But I also had a Taurus small frame 5 shot ported .357 back when Taurus has a vast inventory (what happened) to choose from. Two guns I wish I still had in my collection.

  • @christophermead9800
    @christophermead9800 2 місяці тому +21

    That revolver is a remake of a pistol from my favorite era in firearms and American history. I always wondered why the police carried revolvers while the gangsters had 1911s and Tommy guns like the Military. That’s partially what lead to the .357 magnum cartridge and the .38 super. In my opinion, I think that society thought of the 1911 as “too much gun”.

    • @donwyoming1936
      @donwyoming1936 2 місяці тому +9

      A lot of police departments adopted the M1911 at the time, and Tommy Guns, just to find out the 45 ACP couldn't penetrate car bodies very well. There comes the need for the 357 Mag.

    • @markteaney8381
      @markteaney8381 Місяць тому

      @donwyoming1936 another problem was penatration on the 357. City was worried about law suits from a mother being shot when the cops 357 bullet passed through the crook and hit mommy.

      Earl8er autos weren't always as reliable, as well as ammunition being dodger. Revolvers are simple, will chew through any ammo, and at the time were much cheaper.

    I bought a 2” Roscoe two weeks ago, and it’s been in my pocket since then. I do generally carry a revolver, mostly a S&W 686+ with a 2.5” barrel. The Roscoe is a joy to carry in comparison, and also a joy to shoot. I installed Pachmayr Renegade wood stocks, and they work great with speed loaders. I carry speed strips 99.99% of the time. Nice shooting, and great video. 👍

    Just picked up a pre-model 80 taurus 5 screw frame made off of old S&W machines and its fantastic. The 70s certainly was a cooler time. Glad someone is making new old school revolvers. Might pick up the 2" if it's better than a charter arms.

      Charters kinda throw me off, their fit and finish is usually atrocious. At least more modern ones. They are not really the same company many came to love in the 70's. If I recall correctly, basically it's just the name got purchased.

    When it comes to size comparisons and dimensions for videos, a set of cheap dial calipers (Harbor Freight ones work great) can measure things like cylinder diameter and frame widths pretty easily and help visualize said measurements for your viewers. They're also handy to have around the shop, especially if you knock your small drill index in the floor lol. Loved the video, I'd like to get one of these myself soon.

    I got three Heritage Manufacturing 22lr/22mag. 1873 Colt 7/8 scale replica's , Calvary 6.5" , Artillery 4.75" and Birds head 3.5" card table, i fitted them with the catalog upgrades cylinders and grips . The cavalry got the scrolled cylinder with a matching checkered diamond & scrolled grips. The artillery got the Buffalo head cylinder and Buffalo nickel checkered diamond walnut grips. The bird's head being the gentleman's card table gun got the Dead man's hand cards on the cylinder and checker diamond grips in memory of wild Bill Hickok. I got lucky all the guns are in beautiful condition with Beautiful finishes. They're just for fun on John Wayne movie nights . I'd like to get this new Roscoe the finish looks very good i love the Blue/BLk, do you think i could get a little bigger walnut checkered grips that would still look correct for it ? They would have to still look period correct 1930's and fit the frame right. Heritage Manufacturing also came out with a 1850's Stage Coach Double barrel shotgun $ 870. Expensive for what it is but . looks cool .

    I like it for the exact same reasons you do. Looks like a dead-reliable, old-timey police gun that a guy would carry for 20 straight years.
    I’d personally feel confident running +P through it. I just wouldn’t shoot 50,000 rounds of it.
    Have fun

    is the heritage roscoe a rework of the out of production taurus 85?

    • @SEO122
      @SEO122 2 місяці тому +1

      Not even a rework. Taurus retired the Model 85 due to the 6-shot Model 856, but evidently the old tooling still has some revenue potential, so here we are...

    Eh, you can find a vintage Smith and Wesson Model 36 or Colt Detective Special for not that much more money. WGP - you need more vintage revolvers in your collection. Too many new production guns. There are so many great deals on vintage Colt Police Positives, Army Special, Official Police, Detective Specials, etc.

      Where? Roscoe is only 300ish. You're not getting SW or Colt for that. Maybe 500-600 but you're not getting 1 that cheap unless you know someone selling it.

    These are very similar to the old Rossi revolvers a little bit nicer in the day you could buy the Rossi's fairly cheap this gun is almost $400 you could buy a really nice semi-auto pistol for that money.

    Weird that the gun is not marked +P, but the manual and website both say its rated for +P, although any modern 38 can fire +P without issue.

    IT’S A TAURUS/ROSSI, manufactured in the same quality control challenged factory in Brazil with the same industry high percentage of warranty return/repair issues, and if your one of unfortunate buyers of a firearm that escapes their factory with one or more defects, you’ll be forced to deal with the same abysmal customer service apparatus and pay return shipping charges for that privilege.

    • @wyominggunproject

      @@wyominggunproject I won’t. Not after the time I bought a single shot .410 Rossi Tuffy thinking there’s no way to screw up a single shot .410. But I was wrong. The chamber bore was so out of tolerance that expanded fired shells would not eject and had to be driven out with a dowel rod. Then I had to deal with Shakneequah with BrazTech customer service who went down a checklist designed to dissuade warranty returns and stressed that I had to pay return shipping charges. Luckily I bought the piece of $#!+ from Academy and they took care of the warranty return and shipping charges. Lesson learned, if you’re dumb enough to buy Taurus/Rossi and don’t mind waiting 4-6 months for the warranty repair, be sure and buy it at Academy Outdoors.

    It is +P rated. All +P rated firearms recommend to use +P sparingly because the added pressure is going to cause more wear on any +P rated firearm. If you check your manual on your other +P rated revolver it also states that you should use +P sparingly.
