  • This is the end to end purple hull pea video. (with the exception of planting purple peas which I have already done). My bride even gets into the action while I was doing the canning! . She is much easier on the eyes than I!

I'm Texan/Alabamian pure Southern Girl and I just HAVE to tell you that your video made me homesick! In the Midwest now, but, the way you did your video made me feel like I was in your garden and sitting with you picking and shelling peas. Y'all are awesome and so is this wonderful video. God bless you for bringing a smile to my heart.

It's been years since I've shelled & canned peas. Thank you for sharing this and showing the whole process as alot of younger generations don't know how to do any of it. All I needed to know was just the temperature and how long to leave them in the canner however I like the tool to get the lids out, I will be looking for one tomorrow. Loved the comment at the end about the green thumb! LOL! That's the truth for sure! Thank you again and may the Good Lord bless you and your family too.

I've never heard of purple hull beans, but they look wonderful! Excellent tutorial on the whole procedure. For some reason, pressure canners scare the heck out of me lol! Darlene did an awesome job, too!

A kind gardener fro Louisiana sent me some seeds from his garden about 8 years ago. I keep collecting the seeds and planting them every year here in North Dakota. They grow well. I usually leave them out until dry and store them that way. They cook up well in my instant pot.

What a wonderful video....family action going on and teachin' learnin' too! Loved every minute of it and please tell Mrs Fenster she has learned to can like a professional! Very nice looking peas, wow. You got to share some recipes coming from them, even if it just cold pea salad! Beautiful shots of your garden in the beginning too, the harvest and shelling sure demonstrates the work behind a quart of canned peas. Nice canner too, you all got the weight on yours, mine has the valve. Chuck, thank you so much for sharing such a fun video, it was sure nice to watch. Apologies it has been so long for me to watch it, but life has been gettig in the way. You know the deal. Our best to you all, and take care!

Guy Self Most people don’t realize that it’s best to season those peas before you can them. They will taste the same way you canned them. No season = no flavor. Little season = little flavor. Good old seasoning = good old flavor!!!
Raw pack is quick and good. but If you use the hot pack method, you can flavor those peas in vegetable broth or chicken broth or bits of ham, smoked turkey, onion, garlic, meat, bacon or etc. When you do include some sort of meat your processing time must be 90 minutes. Refer to the Ball canning book. I say if I’m going to can or cook....do it good!
