    My summer peas in Louisiana were ruined by the stings of the bugs, but I noticed my Red Rippers and Crowders had less and less stings beginning in August. So what I did in mid summer was harvest the green pods before the stings and boiled them. That was the only way to eat any. I`m getting a decent harvest of dry peas now though in cooler weather and many more blooms than in hot weather. I don`t have much space so I planted them around my fig tree mounds and kept the vines on the ground. The wild bunnies ate some of them but it kept them occupied and out of my main garden.

    When do you pull up your zipper plant? After you picked all the peas off the stems will they send up another stem and bloom again or are they done?

    Thanks Greg! My fall peas didn't do anything. Out of 3 packs planted, I got about 5 or 6 plants. Not sure what happened. But, Spring will be here soon enough.

    You followed up planting your crowders in the corn bed. I just harvested my sweet onions...which I bought from HOSS Tools...Please your opinion on planting Mississippi Purple Hull Top Pick...which I also bought from HOSS Tools...in the bed where my onions were planted. My onions were fertilized with your 20-20-20. I want peas, not vines.

    How to grow cowpeas in my area at this time of year: in a greenhouse, because they're not growing outside with frost.

    I’m planning on taking off of work to plant my garden next year. Win win for me. Work for a couple of weeks and then off a couple of weeks. Save money on food and don’t have to pay Uncle Sam as much in taxes!!!

    I have purple peas planted and they are full of peas but my bottom leaves turning yellow. What could it be? Please….I don’t want to lose them!

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 місяців тому +2

      Normally that is a indication of too much or too little water.

    When is the optimum time to pick zipper peas. I've planted a ton and they are loaded up. I planted 2 crops about 2 weeks apart. The first is coming ready right now. I picked some this weekend. I noticed the ones that were turning a little yellow were larger and easier to pick. I'm overwhelmed with how many they have produced. From a taste perspective is it good to pick em a little yellow or while still green? Thanks for all the info you share.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  2 роки тому +2

      We pick them when they are slightly yellow and while still green. The green ones need to be plump and break off the vine easily. They have more of a flexible rubbery fill than the younger ones. I have not found a difference in taste.
