This is a beautiful way to say goodbye. My first daughter was stillborn at 37 weeks (7 years ago). I didn't have any photos of my beautiful pregnant self and really wish I did. I didn't find bellydance until 2 years ago and really enjoy having my daughters dance with me (5 and 3 years). I wish you a very happy and boring pregnancy!
2) Provided there are no complications and the doctor okays it, belly dance is actually GOOD for pregnancy. It strengthens muscles that are used in childbirth, can ease back pain, and some of the movements can even help position the baby for delivery. Many babies seem to like belly rolls and shimmies, too. :) You just should never try any activity that is very different from what your previous level of fitness allowed leading up to pregnancy.
Everyone with bad comments just shut up-belly dancing is such a beautiful dance and makes dancer a goddess, and although it looks pretty easy, believe me, it's not...it's hard enough to do all those belly waves and camels and things without a pregnant belly, imagine with it...perfect video!

I was so emotionally moved watching this woman dance I was actaully in tears and once I read that she lost this precious little life my heart ached for her. So to read the filth that Mr Unjust felt the need to write sent me into a fury.

You can even do regular oriental, tribal, or tribal fusion bellydance while you're pregnant too! lol I just bought a tribal fusion DVD and I can't wait to try it out. I hope my belly looks as good as hers when i get to be that far along! rofl i feel like a big ol blimp sometimes.

I hope the next one had a happier ending I'm a bellydancer (performer & teacher) who is currently pregnant -- mostly on sabbatical from performing because, unfortunately, too many idiots see my belly as a "disfigurement" (seriously, WTF is wrong with our society??) -- and wanted to clarify some things for a few morons here:
1) The point of belly dancing (yes, even cabaret style dancing!) is NOT to entice men. It's a women's folk dance, one that in fact is believed to have roots in childbirth ritual. Hollywood gave it that provocative image, along with some deliberate misleading by show promoters at the Chicago World's Fair back in 1893. A few modern dancers give it a bad image, too, because this is what they think sells, but there is nothing innately vulgar about belly dance.
Thanks all for your great comments. I ended up having a still birth a few days after this dance and I am sure that the baby was not alive while I was dancing in the white costume. It has been a difficult journey and I am finally able to look at the video again and realize that I was dancing the baby goodbye. I am pregnant again now and very excited.
I agree that we don't see things the same way and that's fine. Good, even. What I wonder is: This woman lost that baby and this dance, looking back, was a spiritual way for her to say goodbye to her stillborn baby...would this not be one of those times where your negative (or anyone's) opinion could just not have been posted?
