Great demo, and I didn’t mind the talking one bit! The way Keeley has designed the interface is really smart. So many presets available with simple tapping. Yeah, 3 thumbs up for sure.
I sold both my D1 and R1 walrus mako effects after I saw this, as much as those are praised I felt they are very difficult to use in practical ways and the sound quality and output is not as grandiose as their PR and everybody else claims, this just seems straightforward and produces beautiful sounds without much tinkering with the controls
I bought it this week. All I can say is for as much as I hate the "no brainer" heralding I often read for any exalted kit, this is it! I have this and a Wampler Tape Echo (also bloody fantastic) and this is a fantastic augmentation. I can't imagine anyone who wants "echo" (def not a sterile DDL) not loving it as well. Spendy, but no regrets.
Agreed! I have a Dd500 for every possible delay sound I need.... but this is the sauce, this does echo better than most and the form factor is perfect. This is much more than just a signature pedal too.
Hi Brett. I've watched quite a few videos about the Halo - (which I bought and love) - including both of your videos, and I can safely say that your videos are by far the most useful and informative. The ones on the Keeley site are barely audible, and they should replace them with both of yours! Great and very thorough and useful review. Greetings to you from Ireland.
I gigged for years with a Korg DL8000R in my rack. It was great for all my guitar sounds, and especially my 12 string acoustic, using the 2-tap chorus preset. I sold this Korg unit just because I was tired of dragging an effects rack around and the extra time and space required,, Regretably I could never find anything in a pedal that would get me even close. Now that I have heard this I wonder if Andy may have had one of the Korg units in his studio. This pedal is next on my bucket list - thanks for the excellent review as always. Nick - Geelong
Exactly this. I have the Nemesis, and want this one now. It seems to do everything I need, in a smaller, simpler package. Which I thougt was impossible, after the Nemesis.
I have this with the Keeley Muse Drive. Through my Magnatone, it would sounds incredible. Best pair of pedals I have purchased in years. I aLSO added a Surfy Bear Reverb to top off the system. Not disappointed at all.
I now have my own Halo and this is my absolute favourite. With all the gear one can own if you don't have a Halo. .you're seriously missing out. An overdrive, the Halo I'm done. Try stacking the Re2 alongside...No compare padre.
Dear Brett.....on the left side of the HALO, there are 4 I/Os.... from the bottom to the top, the 1st two are the pedal's left & right outputs followed by Expression input. My question is, what is that 4th i/o which is marked with Tip & Ring, for?
The one marked Tip and Ring is a TRS connection so that you can have remote access of the two footswitches. For example, you can connect to a G3 or other switching system.
@@BrettKingman Tone Talk confirmed Andy runs it in front. It's interesting how all the reviews I've seen do otherwise. Which most of us think would be logical in the loop. But I think he talked about designing to run in the front. I may have to re-watch
Great review but tbh I just cannot get the pedal to do what I want. Maybe it’s just me (the manual is terrible) but there’s v little difference switching between presets for me, the controls don’t usually work and/or I can’t seem to access them regardless if pressing the FDBK knob etc. Maybe mine is just a dud :(
I have watched several videos about this new delay pedal and I'm trying to understand how this would be an improvement over the TimeLine Andy was using. Unfortunately the user manual is not available yet, hoping that it carries some useful info on the algorithms. Basically it looks like a dual cascading delay with a stereo diffusor, a multitap delay and a BBD echo simulation, 3 algorithms really. On the TimeLine you can set the two echoes in series or parallel, you have diffusion in the Lexicon style, so not a halo verb, and a lot more choices for each of the 3 algorithms available on the HALO. Add decent presets storage, MIDI... great for backup, a display, knobs that facilitate tweaking and changes "on the fly" with a single hand IF necessary and a lot more delays algorithms available. The "halo" thing is definitely the only difference I can see at the moment but when you have cascading delays they tend to create a reverberant space anyway or if you have a second delay pedal (or reverb) a cluster of echoes will do that pretty nicely. I tried with a Volante after the TimeLine... basically I can't find anything I can't do with those other pedals. Maybe a tweakable reverb would have been nice but those hard limitations imposed by a very raw UI don't easily allow for that. So, as far as I understand it at the moment, it's just a VERY personal interpretation of what Tim likes and that's it. Anything else?
@@skipneumann1 Thanks! I just checked it as they must have posted the manual after my first post. Unfortunately it doesn't provide any answer at all. My point was about the algorithms, their design... not how the knobs and switches work. Still I don't see the advancement on the TimeLine.
@@BobGuido You're right, Bob! NOTHING in pedal format has ever come out bringing any news to what the H8000 does and can do. I have created a lot more algorithms on it... Soundwise there is no comparison. These thing sound so damned cold and digital, without analog I/O sections that shape their tone. The H8K is still the best! Cheers!
Look I likely have more studio rack effects than any standard musician all but for one problem you have. If there's nothing new for you stick with what you have! I've just used my Halo post the amps on a piece and I'm quietly controlling myself! I think you're missing the point of the pedal. It's not the abilities of a pedal so much as whether or not you can become a creative wizard in using and altering. This is where it all begins.
Brett, you know what i hate about delay? if you make a mistake, it reminds you of it over and over.... all you want to do is just move on and hope no one else heard, but no. delay is there to call you out....
You can can get close but I’m not sure how. Andy himself used a Timline on the Dual Delay setting for years to replicate his Memory Man’s so it’s definitely possible!
honestly, i think it’s getting harder to get excited about any delay pedal these days. with few exception I think it would be hard to tell them apart in a blind test. same uninspiring features and controls…all copies of the ones that were already perfected in the seventies. for me It’s sadly becoming the wah of the aughts.
Great demo, and I didn’t mind the talking one bit!

Yeah, 3 thumbs up for sure.
You sold me (not a tough slog since AT’s my favorite player). But a fantastic demo as always. It’s a treat to watch you play.
Excellent review. Thank you for focusing just on the basic voices and presets, it's a really clear and concise overview.
No probs. Thanks for the kind words. The HALO is still No.1 here. Cheers.
Exactly what I was after to hear (your playing is scary good!!). Tx.
I saw many demos and reviews on UA-cam, and yours is definitely the best!!
Thank you Brett.
I will get my Halo soon
WOW! Sold! Thank you very, very much for the great demo!
Great demo an dang you play geez! So fun! Thanks
Amazing pedal and Demo Brett, the Vintage Multi made my dog's ears stand up. That's a good thing 😂

Great video. Thank you very much Brett
Stunning pedal!🎸
Thank you Brett ! I wanted to hear what came with the Halo installed presets. Valuable post for me. Tucson, Arizona

Big thumbs up on this one !!
I ended up with the Keeley ECCOS. Which is totally cool because it is also an awesome delay.
Just got one and im blown away .its an amazing pedal all i need in delays and reverb .its beautifull.great demo.⚘⚘⚘🙏🙏🙏🎸🎸👍👍👍

This is really something. I haven't been at this level of GAS for an Echo since the Source Audio Nemesis

👍👍👍 on the demo
Just got it. Beautiful tones from it. Not sure they nailed the Rockman chorus/delay, however.

In other words you can plug in a latching switcher and use it to switch presets.
BOUGHT IT.
Props for “Hot Dog”!
Nice ! How are you running it into the Fractal?
well done!
⛽️
You doing to good of a job burgs there sold out here in Aus
Thanks, AJ. It's not hard to sell, though. Best delay that's come through my door in a LONG time. Worth waiting for, I reckon.
Great demonstration. Were you playing stereo thru Dumble and Marshall or channel switching between the two?
This pedal is the shit. I bet they sell them till the cows come home!
Did you run pedal in front of the amp? I just watched Tone Talk with Andy on, and I believe he said his is in front.
No, I set up a virtual effects loop in the Axe so it was post preamp. I'll ask Andy how he actually runs it but this (my video) is how I would.
@@BrettKingman Tone Talk confirmed Andy runs it in front. It's interesting how all the reviews I've seen do otherwise. Which most of us think would be logical in the loop. But I think he talked about designing to run in the front. I may have to re-watch

How to you put it in tap tempo mode

Youve inspried me to get a HALO pedal.... cant quit get the dound you do after you stomp at 3:30 though. what do you kick in ?
Sound you do... sorry fat fingers
What other pedal did you use to get the Boston sound?
An Axe-FX III

Can you make your own presets?
Do you need to use knobs to have the preset sound?
Nope. Just bring up the preset and go.
Can you not get the same delay out of a TimeLine?
No idea as I don't own one.

Can you switch presets remotely with the Halo??
Yep. Page 6. robertkeeley.com/woo/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/05-09-2022-HALO-Andy-Timmons-Dual-Echo-Instructions-Resized-FINAL.pdf

with a listed price of 400 euro i can only ask, Why? love it but a new Strymon cost`s the same so i don`t understand what is the connection
