I was challenging myself to do 3 sets of 40 pushups with 30 seconds rest in between. I can do 2 sets cleanly and the 3rd is a struggle after 20 reps. Fatigue at 30. I have found I can do... 1 set of 25 advanced 10 pushups, 3 narrow 2 sets of 5 staggered each arm Sliding I found too difficult to maintain a consistent pace or good form. Also went back to regular and my lower back sagged at the start even though my arms felt fine, so I called it a day for pushups.
On the plow knee tuck I could get my thighs close to my chest BUT I found that I was able to find the flexibility after I did some warm ups we did at BJJ. Once I could back roll over my shoulder my body found the strength to do them.... It is like my body saying nope we cannot do this and I had to remind it with various progressive moves that YES it actually could.
Yeah same. Both ours did that. We always had a woman for girls PE and a man for boys PE and they were separate classes most of the time. Our teacher made girls do knee pushups. And when we did have joined class, the boys teacher would always shame those boys who couldn't do "boys push-ups" and told them to group up with girls for the "girls push-ups".
It was the same for me. Some teachers were OK but others just assumed that girls couldn't do anything more than the knee push ups. They were properly shocked when I could do not only full push ups but also handstand pushups and one arm push ups. I was super into calisthenics at the time.

I'm literally tearing up right now I am not even kidding. When you said around 5:30 that if it is still too hard you shouldn't be ashamed tears literally started rolling down my cheeks. I am still in highschool but I am really weak and always picked last for gym. I am starting from so low and I am so insecure right now starting, I have zero knowledge about fitness and workouts and I am so so grateful for youtube to guide me. This video means a lot to me. I hope I'll someday be able to a pushup. Thankyou
@winter blake I guarantee you that you got this! Do not feel ashamed, follow this video and practice often and you will make it, I believe in you, you just need to believe in yourself, tell yourself that you got this, don't let the negative thinking keep you from achieving your goals, you can start tmr and little by little you'll be able to do a pushup, no one is better than you, you are strong and capable!
in 2 months i went from fewer than 10 wall push ups (i barely have any muscle mass at that time, my arms were bones and skin) to 25 knee push ups, my journey is still long but it wouldn't even start if it wasn't for you, Hampton, so thank you so much! I feel so much better and stronger I could cry update: i can do 3x30 knee push ups now! 3 months update: GOLLY GEE HAMPTON I CAN DO A PUSH UP :D
Just wanted to say thank you for putting so much work into the updated routine. I've been following the old routine and the new for 7 months now, and it's not an exaggeration to say that ii has changed my life.
Thank YOU so much for letting me know. I spent a lot of time making the updated one, and my concern looking at it is "you can't really tell it took that much effort" hahaha. Only getting started - planning on adding SO much more. I knew I had to make a solid routine to build content around that.
I had to take a coding class last year and we had to make websites as projects. Looking at the new routine, I can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into it. I also want to say that this routine has changed my life as well and you have helped change my perspective on some things. Thank you.
Goal: 30 clean push-ups I will try this for everyday and I update here I can only do 3 clean push-ups, So I am doing incline push-ups then knee push-ups then normal push-ups Incline push-ups goal: 40 Day 1: 15 Incline push-ups Day 2: 21 Incline push-ups Day 3: 25 Incline push-ups Day 4: 30 Incline push-ups Day 5: 30 incline push-ups Day 6: 31 incline push-ups Day 7: 31 Incline push-ups Day 8: 35 Incline push-ups Day 9: 35 Incline push-ups Day 10: 40 Incline push-ups Knee push-ups target: 40 Day 11: 15 knee push-ups Day 12: 20 knee push-ups Day 13: 20 knee push-ups Day 14: 20 knee push-ups Day 15: 25 knee push-ups Day 16: 25 knee push-ups Day 17: 25 knee push-ups Day 18: 30 knee push-ups Day 19: 30 knee push-ups Day 20: 35 knee push-ups Day 21: 35 knee push-ups Day 22: 35 knee push-ups Day 23: 40 knee push-ups Next the classical push-ups 💯 I can't update it regularly, but I do update it after completing my Goal 💯 Update: This is like Day 26 and I was able to do 12 push-ups, went from 3 to 12 Update 2: It's like 1.5 months and I can able to do 20 push-ups Update 3: After 2 months I was able to do 27 push-ups till failure just three more 💯 Update 4: finally I can do 30 push-ups till failure and I am not going to stop here next target "50 push-ups"💯 Update 5: now i can do 35 push-ups btw i am trying new variations like archer push-ups which i can do about 6-7 per set Update 6: It's been a long time since I updated last time, now i became out of form which I can do about only 25 push-ups 😐. So needed to start grinding again 🔥 Update 7: finally nearing 30 (28 push-ups) Update 8: I REACHED 30!!!!!🔥🔥(june) Update 9: max 40 (September)
32yo female here. NEVER BEFORE was I able to do a push up. Followed your instructions with little to no expectations, but did it every day. 3 months and a half later, and NOW I´m able to do 15 PERFECT FORM push ups. Unbelievable what you can do with proper instructions, patience and consistency. Got hooked up and I´m working on increasing my reps. YOU, SIR, ARE AMAZING! Thank you so much!!!
If you had enough patience and dedication for 3 months of training then you are probably going to get really fit. 🙂 The onramp of any routine is always the most mentally difficult. I wish you a good luck and much fun.
As a large person, the stigma of exercise and largeness has always made even beginning fitness very daunting. Your straight forward, factual and compassionate sharing of how to look after your entire body, pay attention to your limits and how to prevent damage are so useful and really answer so many questions I’ve always had all my life, but no one to ask. It’s crazy that deconstructing the stigma of starting at whatever you’re capable of into it being actually a healthy, proactive and progressive action to train your body’s muscular strength, flexibility and joint strength - really is the magic ticket. Body health and fitness shouldn’t begin and end at body image, ego and competitiveness. Fitness and body work like this feels achievable, TRULY accessible for all bodies and feels entirely coded towards the health of your entire body. I’m so grateful you make this content
As a normal-sized guy (I could probably use lose a few pounds), let me tell you that when I see large people going in and out of the gym (which I simply walk past, never go in) I always think to myself "That guy is running laps around everyone who's still on the couch, including myself".
Keep going! I'm here to tell the world we can do it ! Eat right and get your body moving 5 days a week in some way. I will forever be amazed that it worked after decades of not trying because of the very Daunting feeling you had
I am a 70 year old female- I used to be able to do standard “male” push ups up to 5 years ago- i was a firefighter. Back injury changed that. BUT- I have been doing 100 “girl” push ups every day for 26 days!!!! I see, feel and enjoy the changes!!! You make this very doable and I appreciate your videos! I will get back to “male” push ups soon!!!😊
For some people, 100 push-ups a day might work for your body. Everyone’s body is different I would highly suggest reading the article by by Jeremy Ethier - July 30, 2022- what happens to your body when you do 100 push-ups a day, Wilce this might work for some people the article points out a lot of positives about giving your body rest periods and what happens when you don’t have rest and recovery.
@@amairasagar5613Excuse me please correct your attitude. When you feel acidic like that, put yourself in ice cold water for a few minutes, like a... warrior.
I wanted to say that the original "You CAN do pushups" video was what got me into fitness in the first place. I wasn't doing incredibly well in my life due to my own self-image among other things, but that video as well as the original routine have, safe to say, changed my life. I now no longer dislike how I look or how I act towards myself and the basis for this can almost solely be attributed to you, Hampton! The new routine looks incredibly well built, and while recently I haven't had enough time to fully check it out, the effort that was put into it is obvious, and I can't wait to see how it evolves
(Not to take away from your comment) That video is where I first found this channel, before that point I didn't know how I could get into exercise after being bullied at school and by my brother over not being able to do a push-up. I always assumed doing easier versions of workouts wouldn't really amount to anything.
@@GraysonP8279 not to take away from either of you but the original video is the one that got me into fitness proper and sticking to a routine and actually making progress instead of dropping it after a week . ive been fairly regular for almost a year now :D
Dude, you are just so freaking positive as a coach. I teach fencing to a lot of adults who have never had a large interest in fitness before, and when they ask me what to do to get into better shape I send them to your material.
I’ve been interested in learning to fence, but I’m worried that I’m too weak to have any real skill. Are there are workouts I should be doing to prepare myself for lessons?
@thepursuiterer Hampton's workouts are a great base for strength. However, if you want to fence, I'd just go ahead and find lessons. Strength is an advantage, but you will gain strength as you fence.
A friend of mine wanted help getting into shape after a long time in the hospital with COVID complications. Basically no muscle mass left. Wasn't sure how to start her off because I'd never helped anyone starting from such a low muscle-base. Used a few of your most basic exercises and she's up to ten normal pushups now! Great resource, thanks man.
Just to contribute, for some, the trouble with moving from knee pushups to full pushups might be a lack of core strength. I've found the plank to be a great way of strenghening my core, in turn helping me do pushups. Hope it can help someone else as well!
Thank u it might help me because I'm obese person who is not able to do push up but I palne a little bit easier and I can do it I will bulid my strength and then do push up 🥲🥲🥲
well friends, i came to tell you that doing 3 sets of 50 wall push ups took me a bit over 2 months (i started on april 2 and was able to do it on june 23) so dont give up fellow noodle armed people! we'll get there eventually 😊
You're so respectful and understanding of the fact that not everyone can do the standard pushup. It's like you pick up where most fitness UA-camrs just don't. I've been struggling to do a pushup for a long time but the other week I found the key. I bought a pullup bar to put in a doorway a while back. It's very stable, especially with the little knobs that sit between the bar and the doorway, but those are screwed in. However, I realized I could squeeze the bar in the doorway further down to do my incline pushups against. (Of course I first check that it can hold my whole body weight) it's worked great and I'm improving, finally! Best thing is I can just move it down a couple of inches to slowly progress!
A different type of push-up that I reccomend is a negative push up. Basically, be in a normal up-push up position. Then, lower yourself as slowly as you can into the ground. Once you fall, get back up into the position and repeat until you physically can not go down any more. Also, the video was amazing!
I started with 20 wall push-ups, and now I can do 40 normal push-ups, 10 diamond push-ups, 8 pike push-ups, clapping push-ups, and much more. This video helped me combat my insecurity for push-ups. I used to be that one kid who couldn't do one push, and now i can do one of the most in my classes. Thanks for this video for helping people in need and continue the good work on youtube.
I was born with a neuromuscular disease called Muscular Dystrophy and all my life I was encouraged to not workout because typically exercise can sped up how fast the muscles lose function. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that I learned the specific kindof MD I have, I’m actually “safe” to workout, but to take it easy cuz my nerves still don’t work well lol Just the idea of doing a Wall push-up variation literally changed my life like stepping stones. Thank you brother!
This video kinda take me back a few months ago when I couldn't even do 1 single pushups, now I can do around 15-17, just wanna say to you Hampton, thank you for the help🙌 Edit: 27 now!
I’ve been doing it for over a year now, and tbh I was recovering from an illness that had me bedridden for over a month and almost took my ability to walk. Now I am able to do advanced incline push-ups, I can do the side staggered squats, and I am working on the horizontal pull-ups, I have gained so much strength back and it’s just from repeatedly trying to increase with small steps every day! If Hampton hadn’t taken the time to outline the steps, I doubt I would be able to do 5 push-ups right now let alone multiple sets in the 20’s
Meant to add that I hope you keep up all the hard work! It pays off, just keep in mind you’re doing it for the long term not some short term arbitrary goal!
Thanks for destroying my pride Hampton. I thought myself athletic because I am a second-degree blackbelt, but I came close to passing out after doing 150 wall pushups on my first day of your training program. I am excited to try out your program and I want to express my gratitude that you have made it both free and open to the public.
After watching the original video I started trying pushups. I could just about do wall pushups, so I started there. That was 15th March this year. By 2nd May I could do a set of 10 standard pushups, by progressing through wall, desk, then knee pushups. My chest and shoulders are visibly and physically stronger. You’ve helped me out immensely Hampton, cheers!
@@felineloveyaa I do a 2 day split, without a designated rest day because I really struggle to keep habits unless I do something daily. On day 1, I do pushup variations and some dumbbell curls (I do dumbbells because I have them around and can’t find a way to do pull-up variations yet). 3 sets of each. Each set to failure, with a break between each to do the other exercise i.e. push-ups/curls/push-ups/curls/push-ups/curls. I’ve recently started doing 3 sets of standard push-ups before doing 3 sets of knee pushups, in the same session. Once I’ve done that I like to do as many wall pushups as I can until failure. This isn’t very many tbh after standard and knee pushups. On day 2, I do sit-ups, side sit-ups, half bridges and squats. I started with leg raises instead of sit-ups, as Hampton advises, but I found my back/leg muscles are too tight and I ended up working my back rather than my abs. I find my sit-up form considerably better. I also do side sit-ups for those muscles either side of the abs. I don’t have a mat, so I lie lengthways on a spare pillow when doing floor exercises. I started the half bridges at the first variation before moving up to half bridges. I tend to leave the squats till last because they kill me. I like to go all out with them, trying to go until I can barely stand and want to cry. That’s about 100 consecutive for me atm. I use my desk as support and it helps me get though the last 40%. I tend to dare myself to do the last 10 support free, because at this point I’m masochistic. The buzz of succeeding at something I really didn’t want to do beforehand is a high I’ve developed an appetite for. Other than the squats, I do 3 sets of each exercise to failure. Each exercise between the next the same as day 1. I only do one set to failure on squats because they’re awful. I keep a page on my notes app of every exercise/reps/sets I’ve done each day, including when I’ve had ad hoc rest days. It helps me to look back at last time and see how many reps I should be aiming to improve upon or match today. It’s also nice to look back and see the progress made. I’m still a massive noob but I’ve never been in better shape. I look forward to progressing further.
Bro that 2:00 explanation is game changing. I was wondering why triceps and shoulders keep getting stronger but my chest has barely improved since I started working out. I had no idea that I was always pushing my shoulders all the way forward. I tried pinching my shoulder blade together and activating my core and my press ups reps went from 17 to 5. This is gonna help me so much. Thank you.
I don’t know how often you get this, but your compassionate, and extremely helpful nature always chokes me up. I’m trying to join the navy right now, and I’m trying to learn how to do the pushups aspect of the bootcamp test, and you are the first ray of actual kindness ive recieved in months. Thank you so much for being so genuinely kind.
I appreciate how you sounded so kind and encouraging all throughout the whole video. Because you're right when you said it's kind of a shameful feeling to not know how to perform push-up. Now I feel like I have to work hard and do my best to not disappoint you. Thank you so so much. 😔
I rely on casual jogging for exercise. I've never had any proper training by any coach or even gym teacher due being homeschooled. I believed I was doing everything correctly when I took 2nd place in the Atlanta Track Club. Stumbling onto this channel has opened my eyes, provided structure and skill exposure not to mention saving my now aging joints. TY, I am a new subscriber and am looking forward to improving my flexibility and joint protection.
Finally I have found someone who gets it! I've been looking for strength training tips for someone with poor upper body strength and seen so many 'beginner-friendly' videos that just don't understand that some of us can't do a half push up never mind a full one. I mainly only do hiking and running, plus a little yoga and as I'm in my 40's I know I need to start building more muscle now. Thank you so very much for this fantastic video! I'll not only be checking out your others and your website - but I'm also thinking of incorporating this into one of my own hiking videos very soon so I will be sure to share this video on it 😊
Hampton! 8 months! 8 months I trained and yesterday was the first time I managed to push myself of the floor! 😭 Thanks so much for your motivation :) And girls out there: be patient, we have much less upper body muscle by nature so we first need to build a lot for this. But we can do this, just stay patient! 💪🏻 Edit: already got TWO yesterday after 10 days! I feel like I unlocked a whole new world 😂 Editedit: y'all are too kind! Really made me smile to read all the comments :) the situation right now is that I can't really get over 3-4 push ups, so I will continue including more incline pushups for a while. Also working on that pull up, I really struggle with back training but I never believed I could do push ups, so now I believe in myself! One day I will pull myself up! 😂
THAT'S AWESOME. So proud of you. That's a lot of dedication and hard work. I'm sure you kept going when others may have given up. Keep up the awesome work! Work on getting a few in a row! Love your advice to other girls!
Golly gee, Hampton! Now I can do a push-up! It took me about 4 months of (almost) daily training to go from barely doing 15 wall push-ups to a perfect form real push-up! When I first tried it I couldn't believe that I just did it, thanks a lot! Now my next goal is perfecting my push-ups and following your pull-up routine!
Goly gee, hampton i started a while back around 8-10 months ago where i couldn't even do a single knee pushup but eventually following your advice i progressed from a couple of inclined pushups to almost mastering the one-arm pushup now, all thanks to you👑
This is great to hear. I’ve been a feeling stuck at 10-13 consecutive pushups for a few weeks but remembering that the process is months long rather than weeks long is really helpful. Just gotta keep going.
@@chrispeacock1257 if it makes it any better even i had a similair phase and it did bug me for a while too. What helped me was focusing on the quality of each rep rather than the quantity . Taking it slow and making sure i don't miss the full range of motion really helped!.
@@tanaymalikk Wow, that's some great advice!!! Whenever we don't see massive changes, it helps to try to focus on smaller, more refined changes, or shift the focus. I like the emphasis on form!!! Like, a good thing to focus on could be engaging your core throughout the entirety of the pushup, or change the pacing by going extra slow on the way down, and alternating between fast up or slow up.
Your routine has given me a solid foundation to figure out how to move forward in fitness and it’s been working wonderfully so far. The 2.0 adds a lot to the amazing progressive format you have created.
Because I have a illness that makes me fatigued and feel weak all the time, it took me probably twice as long compared to normal to build. But after 9 months, I can finally do a full pushup! I went from wall, knees, inclined (for some reason knees were easier than inclined) then full pushup. Thanks so much for such a helpful video!
Golly gee, Hampton! Now I can do a pushup! ✋ In all seriousness I started using the Hybrid Calisthenics Routine very recently and even though I'm able to do about 40 consecutive normal pushups, I've started with the wall pushups to focus on my pacing. I really appreciate the work you've put into the routine; have a beautiful week!
How long did it take to move from table push-ups to kneeling ones for you? Because I'm kind of stuck now on that and I don't see any progress at all...
@@janny2483 hey Janny, try if you can do the negative motion controlled and do them as slow as possible. Also helped me to finally get that first push up from the floor. Or maybe you can find a slightly deeper incline to set a new stimulus.
I've been training for Push ups for awhile now, I'm overweight (was obese few months ago) and unable to do push ups. Starting with Incline push ups, then knee push ups, I can now do 1 push up (I think pretty good form) after like 3-4 months of slowly progressing up to the push up. A huge leap for me tbh, thanks to your tutorials and help Hampton 10 push ups in a row now
HONESTLY I CANT THANK THIS GUY ENOUGH. his first video motivated me since 4 years ago!!! Push ups were like a myth to me growing up cos of my genetics and childhood obesity giving me zero headstart. Now it feels like a superpower everyday when I do push ups! I still have a long way to go with my form but I’m always improving everyday!
I can do push ups! Have done 600 knee push ups last month and 30 normals. A bit over two months ago I couldn't do one normal but I showed myself that I can. Love your videos, thanks :)
Thank you for the tip about the wrists. It’s hard to even start doing push-ups when that 90 degree angle is so painful. It’s encouraging to hear that starting from an upright position (on a wall)….slowly, carefully, with perfect form might build the wrists enough to start putting weight on them.
Stretching the forearms helps. Much of that wrist pain comes from the muscles in the forearms. Hampton has a great video on stretching that helped me with elbow pain. Elbow pain comes from the forearms too. lol
My experience is that it gets better, in 2018 I was focusing on getting stronger and increasing my cardio endurance. My wrists killed at first, but over the span of a few months I was able to hold my body through planks, burpees, and push-ups with lessening pain. I'm nowhere near as strong as I was 4 years ago, like not even close, but funnily enough my wrists are still pretty sturdy for holding my body weight. Take it slow, make sure you warm up your wrists before any workouts, and stretch when you're done.
If you have some very small dumbbells, there are some great and easy forearm/wrist exercises you can do with just those! Really helped me with building up pressure tolerance and increasing my range of motion.
This actually works. Went from 0 push ups at the start of the year and today I did 50 (not all at once, but throughout the day). I wish I always understood it was good to make progress rather than be perfect. Thanks for the help.
I've seen a lot of these push up progression videos, but what stands out the most about this one is how wonderfully encouraging you are :) And I did learn a couple of new things too! Wall and ""girl"" push ups here I come!
I really like that you're going into more detail on what exactly we're meant to do and proper form and all that. The feeling that I'm doing things wrong definitely causes some resistance when I want to exercise, so the more I understand the exercise the better
Guys seriously believe me I was not able to do any push up I did wall pushups for 2 weeks and now today I am able to do inclined pushups Now I am very much confident that one day i would also be able to do a perfect pushups Thank you my friend
I always appreciate the way you talk about health and fitness. Whether you struggle with the beginning variation or have an easy time with something advanced, we’re all on a journey and there’s no weakness in working to improve ourselves. We’re better for trying in the first place ☺️
I just love yr attitude , so warm & natural , yr style , simple & straight forward . These wall push ups are fabulous … I had shoulder surgery & lost it all .. , strength , mobility & joy . this has been my salvation to learn to return to what I could do before . The surgeon said my shoulder will never be the same but thanks to you Hampton what is the same is the return of my joy in working on my push-ups . Sending you my thanks 😊
Thank-you so much for your excellent fitness guide! In the past, I worked out every day, for years. After doing NOTHING for 15 years, I'm very excited to start with this program! Great info, great delivery! Thanks again!
OMG, thank you so much for this! I'm 55 years old and have been working out for 15 years, but I injured my shoulders at 48, shortly after mastering a few full pushups. I've never been able to get back there, and am stuck at the knee pushup stage. The variation in between knee and full pushups was a revelation to me! I can lower myself down with straight legs, but can't push back up without tremendous shoulder pain. I'm hopeful that with the straight leg down, bent knee up, then the holds, maybe I can finally get back to pull pushups. I love your content!
Watched this video 2 weeks ago, got motivated and tried doing wall pushups. Day 1 I did set 1, 23 reps, set 2, 11 reps, set 3, 13 reps. 2 weeks later I did set 1, 30 reps, set 2, 50 reps, set 3 55 reps. I am almost at the goal of 3 sets of 50 reps and I am glad I found this video. The fitness community often sets these traps that noobs cannot get over and you're showing us how to overcome them, thank you ❤
I am currently at a young age between 12-16 and i am struggling with doing 1 normal pushup i feel really motivated in doing this to improve my physical and mental form so i thank you for this really informative calm guide.
This was really helpful, I've been feeling bad about only being able to do knee pushups, but now knowing I'm really close to a full push up makes me feel way better.
Ive been playing a sport for over one year and still can't do a pushup... I feel so embarassed when I'm asked to do them in training. This is so encouraging and helpful. Thank you.
I don't know if you'll see my comment amongst all the other comments. But just wanted to say thank you so much Hampton. I have been struggling a lot for the last few years and wanted to get back from depression and anxiety but was having difficulty to do so. I didn't have the mental strength to work or do anything as I used to. During pandemic my body became really heavy and bulky so I wasn't even feeling like getting out of bed. I watched a couple of your videos a while back and started following your workout routine from the beginning of this month. It's helping me so much to improve my overall situation. Your videos motivated me enough to start working again. Please keep up the good work brother ❤️.
skinny body. starting my journey today from wall push ups to regular push up! I'll update this once im back (maybe a month or a year) thank you hampton i just found your channel but your attitude and videos are really assuring and motivating! update: after 1month of doing 3 sets of 40 inclined push-ups every single day and 30mins exercise. i can proudly say that i can finally do a proper push-up :D I'm still skinny tho
it's okay to be skinny at first, just work your way up gradually towards regular push-ups, and start adding more reps gradually (until you add an additional set). When you finally master them, you can start learning "planch" exercise, it's more advanced than push-ups and will give you more muscle volume.
I cannot state enough how much I love your videos it is so rare you find someone who is genuine and cares I think it's amazing that you make fitness and healthy lifestyle choices so approachable And even though I've been working out for around four years now and can do regular push-ups I watched this entire video because it really made me think around the basics and foundation of my push-ups also it's really nice to have your calm and Very zen mindset today was a really rough day however it is always so refreshing watching your videos thank you for lifting my mood my friend!
Golly gee hampton! Now i can do a pushup! Please give me a heart you are my most favourite and the best tutor in the entire youtube. I am only 12 years old. I kept doing wall push ups and started to do incline pushups. And then i was able to do kneeling pushups. Finally after 8 days of hardwork i was able to do a real push up the right way without touching the ground. I was so surprised because every other 12 year olds do it by touching the ground. Please give me a heart it means alot.❤
Thank you soooooo much today I did my first pushup because of all the videos you made about this topic . I can't believe I went from wall pushups to real pushups but now I believe anyone can do it
I just wanted to say thank you. I've been struggling to stay consistent in working out. I'm currently overweight by nearly 40lbs and I find I get discouraged when getting back into things/starting again because it seems too difficult. Your videos have helped me a great deal in starting again and, most importantly, not instantly internally thinking I can't do this/won't keep it up/this is too hard. I appreciate you.
Today I decided to make a plan to do different push-up variations. This came at the perfect time! I have seen your older videos but this video was perfectly timed! Thanks for being a light!
Commenting to track my progress: Day 1: 3 sets of 10 knee pushups. Day 2: 3 sets of 11 knee pushups. Had to take a break for some time, hurt myself (unrelated to this) and then got Covid. Will update when I resume. Tried to push myself, didn't realize how strong I was. Did 12 real pushups. Going to track my progress increasing those numbers now: Day 3: 2 sets of 12 pushups.
I can’t afford a gym or personal trainer right now and decided to focus on bodyweight exercises instead since I’m a heavier guy, with my current goal just being to be able to comfortably do pushups. This video is such a huge help and really encouraging towards hitting that goal!
Glad to have someone like Hampton. I remember my cadet officer training where we were immeadiately ordered to do 10 full push ups. Needless to say, it was a very painful day, as well as the day after that hahaha 🖐
I'm a 51 year old woman. At age 40 I was in the best shape of my life and could do 20 pushups. Life intervened and I gained some weight and got lazy about working out, and then covid hit and I became a fat lazy slob. Now I'm getting back into shape, but I can only do about 5 pushups. I didn't really think this video had anything new to offer me but I watched it anyway, and determined that after I hit my 5 rep max, I'll try switching to the knee pushups, probably doing the knee on the way up with the full pushup on the way down. Never would have occurred to me to try this, so thank you so much.
For some reason I’ve always felt the pressure to try go straight into full push ups without any prior build up. I can do about 5 with varying degrees of form but am always spent after it and I find it difficult to do some easier stuff for longer because I’m simply not used to long continuous exercises. Thank god I found this channel, and as someone who wishes to really get into fitness (I’m about average in terms of moving about, even though I should increase it) I will follow this advice.
I love this so much. Can't even do one push up with my knees on the ground. Can't even do 30 wall pushups straight. But I'll keep going and come back in a couple months to tell you I reached my goal of doing at least 10 clean push ups :)
After an injury over 5 years ago, my physiotherapist told me to try wall pushups and it's incredible seeing that I can do more nearly every single day. Looking forward to trying some new variations.
I love the message and especially the tone. A lot of people have a bad relationship with pushups and are too scared to even get started! Thanks for the encouraging words
Hey Hampton! Thank you for changing my life 😁 You are constantly inspiring me to workout and get better. I am currently fighting a cold but I can’t wait to finish with it and begin doing the workouts again!
Your recoomendations on knee pushups were really helpful to me. I'm overweight, out of shape and a cripple, I can't do a full push-up not just because I'm weak, but because I can't put a lot of pressure on the front of my feet due to past trauma. Where I'm from I've never heard of knee pushups at all, and I've been so happy to discover that variation. I can currently do 3 sets of 15 with a decent form, my goal is about 3 sets of 35, then I'm gonna look for something to elevate my feet, so that the pressure is on the lower part of shin and not on the toes.
I struggled to do push ups then found the GOLDEN SOLUTION ---- learn to hold the 'Plank' excercise for about 1 minute or so first. The 'Plank' is much easier and helps to strengthen the muscles that was holding me back, push ups is a full-body exercise so stregthening the core/legs/torso by holding the Plank before going onto push ups worked for me. It didn't take long before I could hold the Plank for a minute, then when I tried push ups it felt so much more comfortable to do. I also now do crunches aswell for my core and squats to strengthen legs as these too help with the muscles needed for push ups.
Thank you Hampton a few months ago, i was unable to do a single incline push up,i thought it was impossible due to my weight, but your video inspired me And I started to work on it and now I can do 5-6 full pushups with good form I feel stronger already and my social anxiety has improved a lot Thank you for having a big impact on my life❤️
2 months ago I couldn’t even do 30 Real Pushups. I used to do 30-40 Knee pushups everyday. I gradually increased them. After 3 weeks I started doing Real pushups. I used to do 30 Pushups everyday. And Again, I gradually increased them. Now I can do more than 150 Pushups in 30-35 mins
Guys! I could only do one pushup before! But I slowly worked my incline down from my bed until I could do the classic pushup. Now I can do ten after 3ish months of training!
I couldn't do a single push up and watched your previous "can't do pushup" video, and started from wall push ups, inclined push ups, and to knee push ups a few years prior. Now since then I could do a full push up and I could do harder variations of push ups. Props to you man for inspiring me to start my fitness journey a few years ago!
A good tip about the perfect form push-up is that neither form is really correct, it just depends on what you’re trying to work. Having your shoulder blades touching is great form if you’re working your arms and chest (a great alternative to a bench press for calisthenics) but having your shoulders separated works your scapula area more and is much better for building bigger shoulders and working your back which is great at building strength for other exercises since shoulders are extremely important when it comes to calisthenics
Ive been lifting for about 8 months now and for calisthenics specifically, you have been so helpful. Just a few months ago, I couldn’t do one pull-up and now I can do ten. When I started I couldn’t do one pushup with good form now I can do twenty or more with perfect form! And I was using all of your tips so thank you.
I always have issues maintaining form during push-ups and I hope this will help me build strength as I go down to regular push ups and let me do push ups correctly. Thanks hampton!
I am 83 I had a broken forearm & wrist Feb this year Physio suggested I do push ups to build the strength in my arm I started with a couple they hurt .PAIN I now 60 reps with 12 kg weight on my back every day .No more that's enough. Amazing what it has done to my shoulders chest Triceps & Biceps.I have very firm muscles !!! @ my age .Think I will go to the beach
I couldn't even do one pushup 3 months back. I started going to the gym and built my arm, chest, shoulder and core strength strength over time and now I can do at least 15 pushups at a go and close to 50 push-ups with multiple sets with 1 minute rests in between. Trust in the process, don't compare, don't rush and stay injury free. You'll get there one day as long as you are progressing.
This is an amazing tutorial! I have been trying to get my son to do push-ups a long time now. I believe that with this video he will finally feel like he can do it. Thank you so much... lol I actually got a little emotional writing this.

How do I flex my abs if I'm slightly overweight and out of shape?
@@generalkaboom6642 In the content of this video, it'll help for you to just do your best. Your abs can still tense and help protect your lower back. They'll get stronger over time. The easier variations will help you build up progressively.
I need a dedicated video about bridge
I was challenging myself to do 3 sets of 40 pushups with 30 seconds rest in between. I can do 2 sets cleanly and the 3rd is a struggle after 20 reps. Fatigue at 30. I have found I can do... 1 set of
25 advanced
10 pushups,
3 narrow
2 sets of 5 staggered each arm
Sliding I found too difficult to maintain a consistent pace or good form.
Old school PE teachers helped to give knee pushups the bad vibe. Like “girls pushups” were a joke. Thank you for the great video.
So so true
He prolly couldn't even do one on his own

Thank you.

Hi, how many or for how muchtime did u do everyday?
As a small person I can tell you one important thing:It's the hardest when you begin and get used to it.
Keep going! I'm here to tell the world we can do it ! Eat right and get your body moving 5 days a week in some way. I will forever be amazed that it worked after decades of not trying because of the very Daunting feeling you had
Dividing your 3 meals into 6 meals would help too. But it's hard to do it while working, it's easier on weekends.
This!!
I will get back to “male” push ups soon!!!😊
you are an inspiration ma'am! I'm 26 and still on incline pushups.... its only been a week though. i aspire to be able to do pushups even at 70!
SEVENTY?? your a legend

What a great story! Good work!

I think this is a very good point. The chest and arms may be strong enough but if your core is weak your body will not comply.

Im not that noodly but im a a wimp in push ups. Funny😂 im trying. I did only 50 wall push ups 1 rep. I could barely do 10
You're so respectful and understanding of the fact that not everyone can do the standard pushup.
Is it really works? I want to try it but it's too hard also my arm hurts so bad

Wow, that's great! Did you only do push-ups during that time, or also pull-ups, sit-ups, and other exercises?
No.
Great job! Proud of you!:)
😭 Thanks so much for your motivation :)
And girls out there: be patient, we have much less upper body muscle by nature so we first need to build a lot for this. But we can do this, just stay patient! 💪🏻
Edit: already got TWO yesterday after 10 days! I feel like I unlocked a whole new world 😂
Editedit: y'all are too kind!
Congrats!
Amazing! Congratulations 🎉😊 and thanks for the encouragement, I'm going to start training too 🥳🥰
I need to get there!
You go girl! 😘
Goly gee, hampton i started a while back around 8-10 months ago where i couldn't even do a single knee pushup but eventually following your advice i progressed from a couple of inclined pushups to almost mastering the one-arm pushup now, all thanks to you👑
Good work!
@@dawnjohnson8739 thankyou!
In all seriousness I started using the Hybrid Calisthenics Routine very recently and even though I'm able to do about 40 consecutive normal pushups, I've started with the wall pushups to focus on my pacing. I really appreciate the work you've put into the routine; have a beautiful week!
Rarely anyone can do 40 consecutive REAL push ups. Full ROM, chest to the ground, ellbows back ;)
@@sphinyal8758 Mhm my pacing and form was not good and it wasn't doing much for me. I'm gonna be working on a better ROM. :D
@@sphinyal8758 Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll try!
I've been training for Push ups for awhile now, I'm overweight (was obese few months ago) and unable to do push ups. Starting with Incline push ups, then knee push ups, I can now do 1 push up (I think pretty good form) after like 3-4 months of slowly progressing up to the push up. A huge leap for me tbh, thanks to your tutorials and help Hampton
10 push ups in a row now
Keep going, acknowledging being out of shape and working towards self improvement is already a massive accomplishment
IM SO PROUD OF YOU
It's been 2 months, 15 push ups now
@@nanda28cc woow massive!!! Keep it up mate
keep going king, you can do anything
I've seen a lot of these push up progression videos, but what stands out the most about this one is how wonderfully encouraging you are :)
And I did learn a couple of new things too! Wall and ""girl"" push ups here I come!
I really like that you're going into more detail on what exactly we're meant to do and proper form and all that. The feeling that I'm doing things wrong definitely causes some resistance when I want to exercise, so the more I understand the exercise the better
Guys seriously believe me I was not able to do any push up
I did wall pushups for 2 weeks and now today I am able to do inclined pushups
Now I am very much confident that one day i would also be able to do a perfect pushups
Thank you my friend
I seem to be only able to do sets of 25 is that still okay since he suggested sets of 50
bro i could hardly do a pushup 3 days ago. now i'm able to do 3-ish decent ones. practice makes progress
I always appreciate the way you talk about health and fitness. Whether you struggle with the beginning variation or have an easy time with something advanced, we’re all on a journey and there’s no weakness in working to improve ourselves. We’re better for trying in the first place ☺️
Progress is slow but it is undeniable. Thank you for this, it has helped me a lot in my journey towards good health.
Just finished watching. The positivity that you have really helps motivate! Thanks so much Hampton! 🙌✋
The fitness community often sets these traps that noobs cannot get over and you're showing us how to overcome them, thank you ❤
I could never do a pushup. After this video I went from 0 to 11 in two weeks. Thank you!
I'll update this once im back (maybe a month or a year)
thank you hampton i just found your channel but your attitude and videos are really assuring and motivating!
update: after 1month of doing 3 sets of 40 inclined push-ups every single day and 30mins exercise.
i can proudly say that i can finally do a proper push-up :D
I'm still skinny tho
You got this bro
Same Journey bro i finaly can do a full push up rn. It was amazing
Keep it up 👍
COOL! Have you work on diet?
it's okay to be skinny at first, just work your way up gradually towards regular push-ups, and start adding more reps gradually (until you add an additional set).
This is exactly what I asked the Universe for all month. I need to get stronger. Thank you so much for all of the tips!
♥♥♥
Thank you soooooo much today I did my first pushup because of all the videos you made about this topic .
I can't believe I went from wall pushups to real pushups but now I believe anyone can do it
Dude, thank you for helping me with it. Now I can do full and semi push ups, so I thank you for helping me workout!
Awesome!!! Super proud, my friend.
Thank you for being here!
Hope this can help, Brooke!
Commenting to track my progress:
Day 1: 3 sets of 10 knee pushups.
Day 2: 3 sets of 11 knee pushups.
Had to take a break for some time, hurt myself (unrelated to this) and then got Covid. Will update when I resume.
Tried to push myself, didn't realize how strong I was. Did 12 real pushups. Going to track my progress increasing those numbers now:
Day 3: 2 sets of 12 pushups.
Nice man!Keep it up.
Don't forget to have some rest days!
How's your progress
I can’t afford a gym or personal trainer right now and decided to focus on bodyweight exercises instead since I’m a heavier guy, with my current goal just being to be able to comfortably do pushups. This video is such a huge help and really encouraging towards hitting that goal!
Glad to have someone like Hampton. I remember my cadet officer training where we were immeadiately ordered to do 10 full push ups.
Needless to say, it was a very painful day, as well as the day after that hahaha 🖐
I really appreciate the frequent reminders throughout not to be ashamed where you are in your journey 💕
Started from the You can do push up (2020), now we’re here.
Thank you Hampton 🙏
Thank you for being here all this time!
Also if anyone else has the bad wrist pain with them I use a rolled up towel under each hand and it relieves a lot of the pressure!
Hey. You're fantastic. Thank you for being so positive and supportive. It's a real refresher in today's world
I love the message and especially the tone.
Keep up the great work, my friend! Get better soon!
Day 1 Advanced Incline Pushups: 13
Day2 Advanced Incline Pushups:27
Day3 Knee Push-ups:9
Thank you Hampton a few months ago, i was unable to do a single incline push up,i thought it was impossible due to my weight, but your video inspired me
And I started to work on it and now I can do 5-6 full pushups with good form I feel stronger already and my social anxiety has improved a lot
Thank you for having a big impact on my life❤️
Golly gee, Hampton! Now I can do a pushup!!! 🖐️
Why did I start crying tears of happiness because of this man
A good tip about the perfect form push-up is that neither form is really correct, it just depends on what you’re trying to work.
One to ten pullups 🤯🤯
Thank you for being my friend, hampton! 🥺
Thank you for being mine!
I always have issues maintaining form during push-ups and I hope this will help me build strength as I go down to regular push ups and let me do push ups correctly. Thanks hampton!
I hope it can help!
Amazing!! Keep it up!
This is an amazing tutorial! I have been trying to get my son to do push-ups a long time now. I believe that with this video he will finally feel like he can do it. Thank you so much... lol I actually got a little emotional writing this.
Push ups (and pull ups) have been my nemesis for forever!!
Thank you for explaining these variations for people to try. Everyone has to start somewhere 💙
You’re the bob ross of fitness, thank you for making videos
