Interesante 😝 I like hear more than cold but it can get too hot too… Well , thanks. I wonder Jose, if you have said what your business venture is going to be yet?? You are holding me in suspenders haha. Thanks for you’re video ❤
I forgot my bank card once at an ATM. a Mexican ran after me to return it. they are beyond friendly and helpful, can't say enough good things about Merida. Arrived end of January and staying till end of April.
Wow! That's amazing
Thank you so much for sharing! Glad you got your card back!
I’ve lived in Mérida for almost 6 years and I have so many stories of the generosity, helpfulness, hard work, and honesty of the people of Mérida and Yucatán.
Jose is right about the heat - it is hot and it is humid. But this is a 21st Century City. Shops, restaurants, and cinemas are very generously air-conditioned. Emphasis on GENEROUSLY. There are cinemas here called platinos with stadium seating and chairside food and drink service. It’s so cold in those movies that you can grab a blanket from a shelf on the way in. I always take a blanket. So there’s lots of ways to keep cool in Yucatán.
There is no place else on earth that I’d rather live than Mérida.
I actually had someone run after me to return my ATM card last September in Mexico City! I love the Mexican people.
The good thing about Merida is that it has seasons: hot, hotter hottest, and hot.
I found February, March, and April to be like West Texas, hot but dry. May and June are baking hot. You realize what the turkey at Thanksgiving feels like in the oven. July, August, and September are hot and humid, but they are not any hotter than it is in Florida. Starting in October it begins cooling down.
In January the weather report here in Merida listed a "severe cold front" coming through. It was dropping to 71 degrees. Actually this last week it got to 65° and I about froze. Thankfully I still had winter clothing from before.
The best way to deal with the heat is to watch internet shows of people up north sliding around in their cars, shoveling driveways and sidewalks, and cleaning snow off their roofs. About 15 minutes of viewing makes the heat not feel as bad.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
It's strange - when I was younger, I couldn't handle the heat. When I went to Florida with a girlfriend, I felt like I was melting. Now that I"m a bit older, the heat doesn't bother me and I'm wearing jeans all the time. It's the cold that kicks me in the rear.
I love that there aren't too many cars on the road as you ride your bike.
Yes in many neighborhoods that is the case but its not always the case in other parts like in El Centro or North of the City
Finally booked our trip to Merida today. Excited to scout things out and meet some amazing people. Also making appointment with Mexican consulate this week. Early retirement is calling my name.
Thanks for sharing!
Always wanted to visit Merida. You have inspired me to go there on my next trip to Mexico. Well done Jose
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
I enjoy the way you look at everything around you and the ride you take us on. I wish you the best and look forward to your videos.
Awesome! Thank you!
We had chosen two spots to look at for a potential home buy. It was the coast of Oaxaca and Merida. Went to Merida first and never looked back. I lived in Mexico as a child and know the country well. It was pretty much an instant feeling of comfort and home when we first arrived. Now our home will be ready in November. Enjoying your videos but id have to say im not sure where u came up with the food not being very good in your what u dont like about Merida video. We find the food to be delicious but i guess its subjective. Anyways, keep up the great videos and be careful riding the wrong way near La Plancha!😂
Congratulations on your move! Glad you are enjoying it in Mérida so much! I agree after making that video It opened up a Pandora's box and now everyone is trying to show me how amazing yucatecan food actually is and making me eat my words! 😅 Thanks again for sharing!
You already convinced me with reason number one. I was in Zipolite for a month last year but Merida looks fantastic. Hopefully I'll be able to check it out this year. Your channel is great with lots of excellent advice. I love Mexico. Many greetings from northern Germany.
Thank you for the kind words! Viva Mexico!
I haven't been in almost 30 years but loved it, the people and the food. ♡
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely love Merida but come April we will move on and explore more of Mexico
Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living on the Gulf of Mexico 🇲🇽
Awesome! Saludos!
Great video bro. Thank you. From an Australian who wants to move to Mexico
Glad you enjoyed it! Saludos!
I used to live in Arizona and even southern California in the desert in 125+ temps in an RV, but if there was high humidity, no way I would have stayed there.
The temperature and humidity is the #1 reason I can't begin to think about living in any coastal area of Mexico🥵😂
I've lived in Florida too, hate that place, especially those ants😩. As I mentioned before, I've traveled in many countries and all throughout the USA and Mexico City ended up the best for "me". But, I certainly agree with all your reasons why people should consider moving to Merida. Especially, if they want to get far away from the rat race and finally get a peace of mind and freedom. Absolutely 100% 👍
Thank you so much for sharing! I think you will love next weeks video! 😅
@@JoseArteagaTravels 😁👍
Lol...yea
I'm a mid 20s guy. Never liked hustle & bustle, even though I'm an entrepreneur. Always been a home body. I think it seems very pleasant that Merida has a slow pace of life.
Thanks for sharing!
Hola Jose I've been following for some time now. Never wrote a comment to your great contents. But I really enjoy this one.
Saludos!
The magnificent seven,,, thanks Jose.
Your very welcome!
Great Video Jose🎉
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
What I gathered from watching the video is that it takes about 10 minutes to bike from colonia Wallis to the centro and the zocalo, and that the road is in pretty good condition along the calle you followed!
🤔🤗 🚲 🇲🇽
Yup! You can get pretty far on a bike! In fact i often ride my bike just to get there quicker, avoid traffic and always have parking lol
Gracias Amigo
Saludos!
Great video José! 🤞🏼my family & I can vacation in Merida this year. We also lived in S FL for 20 years, Ft Lauderdale & Pompano Beach area. Now in Houston but don’t want to retire here for sure
Awesome! Hope you enjoy your stay!
Cuban yaaa tuSaabee and I bet u were born somewhere near July. Nice Vid. on Merida everything is awesome to live in.
Cubano de Miami que nacio en Septiembre asere
Sounds beautiful
🙂
Merida and New Orleans weather are almost the exact same temperature-wise. Humidity the summer months in New Orleans will make you cry. 🤣
Facts! I still think it is more humid by far in the swamps of Louisiana and Miami. No swamps out here thank goodness!
Looks great 👍I just found your channel...what a treat thanks I plan on going to Mexico in April maybe I should wait
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am in the middle of planning a Merida trip. THIS IS RIGHT ON TIME THANK YOUUU! I am sold
Awesome! Glad to hear that!
Viva Merida!
Oh, So on my way! Moving to Progreso in September, see you around town🌴
Congratulations!
I'm from Florida, Tampa, so use to the heat. :)
Sounds great!
Hot weather is Awesome Love it the cold suck....
I agree I prefer the heat!
I like it is quite not over crowded.
Yes it is still not over crowded like other places in Mexico
Your observation and opinions about Merida really makes me want to take a 6 month trip. What part of Merida should I look for a 6 month rental.
Centro is great!
I love it. Love the authentic look and culture and being quiet!! We lived in Ocala Florida and loved visiting Saint Augustine ❤. We prefer typical simple Mexican style homes and living among the local people and culture and history. How is veterinary care there? Is it easy to find for pets?? I'm trying to find a video of your for How much $$ a Mexican style home in a Mexican neighborhood would cost ( just examples of the average))to purchase?? We live in Costa Rica and it has grown sooooo much since we retired here and the housing costs have doubled because of it. I prefer the old 😆🤣. Pura Vida from Costa Rica
That is awesome! I love St. Augustine myself! Used to love going to visit back when I lived in Miami and needed a break from the insanity! Nothing like an actual town of Pirates to do that for you! 😅 Funny to hear you mention leaving Costa Rica because it is getting expensive because many people are leaving Mexico for Costa Rica for the same reason 😅 As for videos on real estate. Here is a whole playlist! ua-cam.com/play/PLba73fMQ0PMgZhWiSwZXEsZn5hTGi-W6p.html Thanks again for sharing! Hope you enjoy the videos! Saludos!
@@JoseArteagaTravels we actually are not ready to leave Costa Rica because we love our lives here however if we ever need to go Mexico is on the list. We have a great life here too and we have many Tico friends and we live much healthier lives, mentally and physically getting off the hamster wheel of USA. We own our home here so we don't have to worry about the housing costs going up. YES the pirates and the old Fort is amazing . If people are leaving MX for CR because of affordability, they will probably be disappointed because the prices have gone up tremendously
same here can't take the cold thats why i moved to surprise az
Thanks for sharing!
At 15:16 where are you, looks like a nice place to visit. I'm in Santiago
That is La Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán where Christian went to school goo.gl/maps/nWoqodcwFRQrv36K9
Thank you
@@JoseArteagaTravels thanks for the info, much appreciate keep up the great videos
What cities in the Yucatan have the most universities? When I travel I like to live near universities (because I'm in my early 30s--dating, cheaper food and drinks, cheap to hire language tutor nearby, more life and energy)
The Capital of the Yucatan Merida has the most universities
I love Merida too 👍
Viva Merida!
With all the promotion you are doing for Merida Yucatan. The mayor of Merida should give you the medal of Honorary Citizen. At least give you a percentage of the profits from tourism or people moving there.
That's a great idea! I wish everyone felt the same! I have many haters out there that do not like the content I make 😅I'm sure the local government already knows about me and my content. They know where to reach me!
If you have haters you're doing something right Jose!!!! Stay Positive
He does an excellent job 👍
What camara do you use? it does not vibrate????? even when you go over pop holes.
Great Question! For more information on how you can ask me a Question and get a me to do a video response with your answer Click here www.josearteaga.com/youtube-consultations
Is there a better time to move to Merida as far as rent prices go? Does rent fluctuate depending on the season?
Yes the best time is during the Summer when no one is in town because everyone is at the beach and we have no tourist because of the extreme heat.
Thank you! I can't wait to move there. I don't even have a passport yet though 🤦. I make good money (decent) working for the federal government, but I don't know how to make money in Merida.
@@mebriandaly I've made plenty of videos talking about how you can generate income while living abroad you should check those out! You got plenty of time to prepare while you wait for your passport and take care of everything else like having a monthly income you can rely on. Good luck with your journey! Thanks for sharing!
How's the traffic if any ?
Quebec City, Capital of the Canadian province of Quebec, was the number one safest ....for information purposes only .
Muchas gracias for confirming #1 and #2
The Canadian city called Ottawa, it's only the capital! 😆
Thanks for sharing! LOL
The city with the least crime in North America is Quebec City, if that's what you were wondering.
@@-whackd Per capita it was Ottawa not long ago. All of the Americas; from Tierra Del Fuego to the arctic circle.
We know there's plenty of crime in Ottawa...😆 in high places ...
Best time of the year to visit? I heard it's hot hot in Merida!
I would say winter for those that do not like the heat. For those that love the Heat then come during the Summer
Six months out of the year I am in my pool 3-4 hours of the year. It is fracking HOT and humid. Stay outta Merida please, don’t move here, we need to keep the jungles, not tear them down for privadas that never really work out. there are toooo many expats..Canadians, Chinese, Cubans (Jose, stay) are packing this place elbow to elbow ( inm office line also proof). Again, it is HOT, HOTTER and doesn’t cool down but 2 degrees at night.
ok! Thanks for sharing!
Is it very hot if I live in beach towns over there?
Depends on the Beach town there. In this part of Mexico Yes it is Extremely hot but in other parts of Mexico not so much
I can’t find any content on UA-cam about golfing in Mexico. I don’t know if you play or not, but do you know anything about golf in Mexico? Or even in Yucatán and Quintana Roo? Thanks man
Great question! Yes there is tons of golfing in Mexico and Merida has a golf course or two in the North of the city
@@MyMemories07 thank you
Why would anyone want to live there??? I live in Puerto Vallarta and, yes it gets warm and humid BUT not until JUNE when the rains start in late June, all the way through October. October has a lot less rain so not as humid. February thru April are the b st months in my opinion. Getting more expensive to live here but you can still find rentals around $500 per month. Also, there’s so much to do here! We love it and go to a cooler mountain region for a month in the summer. There are beaches, jungles, waterfalls, mountain hiking, foodie heaven, and wonderful people to meet. Check it out!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Safety is a big concern for many. How is safety in Puerto Vallarta?
Tocayo! Forget P.F.Chang's, Oriental City has much better food! Loving life in Las Americas for 8 months now.................👍
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
I wonder why all the doors are so big there they seem really tall maybe it's for all the Giants in our past 😆
A lot of that architecture is Old Spanish style very European influenced.
It is so weird to watch my neighborhood on a youtube video, I bet you were driving the bike on a sunday around 4pm, the Chen-Bech market was closed and the sun is already in the west.
I stand corrected, maybe it was saturday, there are too much cars parked around, it has to be saturday because there are less cars than on a regular week day but more than sundays.
Yeah definitively saturday, you actually passed my house starting your 7th reason and my car wasn't parked there, so it has to be saturday, I almost never go out around that time on the week days.
And I think you are right, Mérida is growing too quick, even if I don't like it, a lot of foreigners are buying real state and the Government in Yucatán has always been under the control of the Mérida elite, they make most of their money on the construction business, they buy the little villages around Mérida for cheap and then develop it into hipster neighborhoods for people that is not from Yucatán. i don't like it because they are abusing our water reserves and some day they will start to shrink, we are also eliminating the jungle area and that contributes to the extreme heat, and last but not least, the crime, the bigger the city the more crime it is.
Super cool I passed right by your house! Also thanks for sharing the info! Maybe we can see a turnaround for the better. Saludos!
🔆🌄🔆
🇲🇽
As foreigner you can only buy property if is 50 KM and over away from the ocean, so Merida is under 50KM so you cant own anything.
Not true. You can still purchase within the 50km limit. Check this video out for more information on how to do it Mexican Lawyer Explains Real Estate in Mexico ua-cam.com/video/Jj0h9bE6hoM/v-deo.html
jose can i carry a pocket knife in mexico? I 68 years old and moving to san felipe. thanks
Knives are regulated differently in Mexico than they are in other parts of the world. For example, it is illegal to carry a knife with a blade longer than four inches. It is also illegal to carry any type of weapon, including knives, into certain public places, such as schools and government buildings. So smaller than 4 inches and you are good to go
👍🙏🙏
🙂
Hi Jose, we have send you an email, if you would find the time to read it we would be very thankful. We love your channel, website and content as its guiding us to our dream. hope to hear from you soon! Gracias amigo.
Awesome! I will check it out!
Watching lots of other videos of this area. Seems promising, but why is everyone still masked up? I'm looking to escape that kind of stuff in Canada.
Its because we live in a Free country and those people choose to wear it like I choose to never wear one ever. Everyone respects each others decision out here even if they dont agree with it. The plus side is no one is pushing anything on you either so to each their own
@@JoseArteagaTravels Got it. Thanks for the reply. That is exactly it, if you choose to do it. Go for it, but don't push it on other people and respect their decisions.
I was not sure how 'enforced' this was...its been a nightmare up here.
Take care.
Do you have H-E-B in Mérida?
No HEB in Merida
Hmm. The sheer overwhelming size of Miami is not appealing. Escalating and inflated prices, traffic congestion, just too much density, high crime rate. Little Mérida will lose the very thing that draws people to it. And if it comes anything close to what Miami is, Mérida will never be the safest city ever again. That makes it the exact opposite of why I would want to move to Mérida. :(
I agree but it will take decades before its anywhere close to what Miami is
To have your wallet stolen? Can do that right in Los Angeles. 🤪
Have you been to Merida
Pretty sure it's safer than any city in the usa or Canada
Not sure where in the video you heard that, Like I said Merida is the safest city in Mexico and 2nd safest in all of the Americas
Love Merida in winter prefer playa in summer but place like ajijik or guanajuato, mexico city for a canadien is better in the summer yucatan to hot lol 😆 continue your good honest work
Thank you for sharing!
I'm planning my escape from the rat race 🙃👍
Awesome! Good Luck!
