Oh yeah!! Biden is forcing many out of the USA and letting in illegals like I drink water on a hot day!! I am in another hot place in Southern Mexico. It is a tossup to whatever heat Jose has. Many people have desires to live somewhere else no matter where they are for many reasons but they HAVE TO STAY for financial, family or you name it!

Many people live there because of the hype online, but many leave also after they get o \merida and found out about all the lies. I am one of them. I am leaving. i have been here for three months, and i am tired already. I am leaving in three months because my lease is over in three months. if I didn't have a lease, i would have gone already. Merida is overrated. Many people fell into the same trap. tHat why many people come here but don't stay long.

Thanks, you mentioned all the reasons why I will visit Merida. I live in the south, i can handle the heat. There are flying roaches here also. All cities modernize eventually. Will find good food. Love the quiet and slow culture. I know this place is not Miami, New York or L.A. - that's a positive. Not worried about transportation. But #1 is the beautiful beach.

As a native Houstonian, I know about flaying heat, although Merida's "ungodly" season starts earlier. We were there in early April one year and even my born-near-the-Amazon-rainforest wife was commenting about the weather. I'd love to move to Mexico but I'm stuck between the affordability of homes in Merida (even now) and proximity to all the Mayan sites, and on the other hand, awesome CDMX with higher crime and its smaller more expensive places that could collapse on you during the next earthquake.

Here on day 6 of a 10 day vacation and I can't wait to fly home 😢
I haven't driven here but as a pedestrian I notice cars have the right of way not pedestrians.
There must be lot of accidents here
You can also add two more reasons
All the trash on the side of the road to Progresso. Merida has a real plastic problem.
Can't drink the tap water and sewage problems
Only good thing is kind people here❤ and the cenotes are magical

I spent the most pleasant two weeks back in July 08 in San Juan De Los Lagos Jalisco . Dreamy weather temps getting in the 70s for highs and upper 50s low 60s overnight lows . Never needed to turn on AC . Rained lil showers every day kept it cool . Days I spent going to mass at the Basilica and at markets and restaurants . Nights were spent with locals just chilling at the fountain in front of the Basilica

Many streets have clearly defined lines but that doesn’t stop the Meridana from being between two lanes. People here think the street is theirs. They would rather smash their own car than let someone else change lanes or cross a street (when the first driver has the right of way but there’s enough distance so that it shouldn’t be a problem.)

I'm glad you mentioned the food. I thought it was just me. I was in Merida during Christmas a few years ago and went to a restaurant on Christmas day expecting a good meal. I was very much disappointed. And I'm not into food. I mainly eat street food. But whatever I ate it just wasn't good and i don't even know the name of the dish other than it was a Yucatan specialty.
I used to live on the south side of Mexico City in Coyoacán to be in the most historical area of the city and around more authentic places and local people. But trying to get to all the events in Centro, it took hours sometimes using the Metro and walking so i would get an Uber. Ultimately and unfortunately, I just moved to the area where mostly all tourists and foreigners live and now i can just walk to all the events. So life is simpler now.
Only thing I hate about Merida is the heat. Not just Merida any hot city including Dubai! 🥵😁

please don't let your doggie kill possums: "Possums are a good ally to have in your yard - they kill an estimated 5,000 ticks a season and catch and eat cockroaches, rats and mice. They are also resistant to snake venom, the National Wildlife Federation writes, and prey on them." they harm no one. if it's your garden you're worried about, instead put something up to protect it.

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  Рік тому

I love possums and all animals too. But there is nothing I can do if these attacks happen when I am not around. This is part of living close to nature. Gizmo himself was attacked by another dog not too long ago and again there is nothing we can really do. These are actual reasons as to why people do not want to live in Mexico. I prefer to let nature do its thing, we should not be interfering with mother nature anyways.

Living in Merida myself, must admit that traffic over here is on a level of insanity, most Yuca´s really can´t drive, or they turn into kamikaze drivers or into turtles when they jump into their car, really ants are more organized than the average yuca driver. My experience is that they just change lane without blinker, holding up all traffic especially on the periferico, OMG the periferico everyday accidents just because they really don´t look or anticipate to other drivers/speed. Am European myself and am used to a lot of cities even Italy where a huge amount of mopeds are buzzing like bees all around your car, or France where isn´t a single car without a dent, but man Yucatown man that hits me real, really hate it to drive during rush hour which is around nine in the morning, between 2 and 4 afternoon and then form 19:00, take the road for example by Costco, during the morning city in and during the afternoon city out, hope you can switch off your stress level because what a mess.
The food Yucatown ( i keep on saying Yucatown haha) is famous for is cochina chochinita (pibil), every weekend in the early morning they sell cochina everywhere, for the rest there isn´t much choice in real Mexican food in whole yucatown, the only place where you can eat some original Maya (that´s what they say at least) plates are in the Haciendas.
But be really honest now, as Merida is expanding rapidly you will see more and more street vendors selling tacos and other unhealthy stuff like you see in Mexico City, reason is that a lot of Chilangos (a.k.a. people from Mexico City) are moving to Merida and taking with them all their (bad) habits,
(No reason why Yuca really hate Chilangos).
Without a doubt that will be my POINT REASON NO: 8 WHY I HATE MERIDA !!!!!on your list , Please government wipe away all those dirty disgusting street vendors, they are making your city so dirty, they think they can put their "carrito" or "puestecito" everywhere they want. 😩😩😩.
Also those Marquesita vendors on Paseo Montejo and the Remate (the square at the beginning of Paseo Montejo) , it´s getting TOO MUCH....
i understand those people want to earn some money but be real it´s too much of the same (shit)....

I got anwsers for the good and bad for Mexico. For the Good are: People, Weather, Language, Culture, Food, etc. For the Bad are: Streets with no trees, Costly homes comparing with typical US houses, Small lots, Boring Arquitecture (house made of boxes), your videos shows depriment city landscaping, deteriorated old asphalt, potholes, broken sidewalk, etc. Is any better city than Merida?

I remember the first time I went to Mexico in 1990 flying cockroach's back in the day flying around the courtyard just outside of our motel units in the Baja california Sur. I went back to the Baja in the mid 2010 and did not see really any guess they started fumigating more too keep gringo tourist happy. To me they were cool the sound they made when they flew was like someone clapping wood blocks together. Too cool for School !!!! Now sparse and Sad ya do not see that nature around.

A nice video, However, I also live in Merida and love to hike and to be outdoors in nature, but it’s too hot outside for me, often too dusty from Saharan dust episodes, not many nice walking trails and suitable biking trails, very flat, and not overly interesting. It would be great to go outside in the evenings, even in the garden, but one is confronted with mosquitoes, and still more heat. The biggest concern is it seems to be getting hotter, with all year higher temperatures. I have made some adjustments, but still looking forward to moving forward, to enjoy the outdoors, again. The amenities for groceries are good and also the online shopping, but if one can cook, that is a huge blessing- A nice cooler indoor activity with AC. I’ll add that It’s not always quiet -You are lucky, or very unlucky!

You are very wrong about the cuisine. The gastronomy in the Yucatan is on a different level. You are right about living in the region and the food not being for every day consumption, however, Mexican food as a whole is not ideally a balanced diet. As far as the quality, it is amazing especially if like myself, you grew up on traditional Mexican and Mexican American food.
