What I love about Berezovsky's playing in comparison to other pianists, especially in Liszt, is his marvelous technique. I have seen this transcendental etude been played with many wrong notes by other pianists. Berezovsky plays with almost no wrong notes, furthermore, his legato line can be heard. His tone is masculine, not harsh, and very accurate. What can any of us say but bravo.
This truly is wonderful. Btw, have you watched Alexander Malofeev's performance of this at his China competition...very wonderful also. Both pianist giants. I believe Berezovsky plays this quite a bit faster than A.M. Not sure, it's been awhile since I listened to it.

You're not wrong. I'd put this up alongside Argerich's Scarlatti K141 and Lugansky's Rach3, among others.
I've listened to so many interpretations of Mazeppa on YT, but nobody comes close to Boris. Nothing short of an exceptional, brilliant performance.
Unreal. My favorite....the colors, textures, voicing, touch.... oh, and technique, duh.
And a great piano!
This is absolutely the BEST performance of Liszt’s Mazeppa. Extreme virtuosity, so strong played. What a masterpiece…

The best interpretation and sound quality of this etude I've ever heard!
Listen to Trifonov
It is great but musically slightly below Berman's 1960s reference recording.
Computer Addict Trifonovs isn’t as good
Totally awesome1 I bought Berezovsky's CD of all Liszt's Transcendental Etudes many years ago, and it remains unsurpassed.
This is the recording that inspired me to learn this piece. I remember him sweating a lot

Berezovsky plays such a difficult piece with an ease. Every time I watch him play Mazeppa, I'm like wtf
I like how he sits at the beginning, sort preparing himself mentally.
Bravo Maestro! Besides a commanding technique, the passion is so evident that it's breathtaking! Liszt would be pleased beyond words. Thank you!
Fantastique technique et fantastique interprétation ! It cannot be better !!!!
I adore to see His hands playing on the clavier this splendid Liszts' Mazeppa rendition .

This is practically one of my favorite performances of Mazeppa after all.

장소린 리스트 장본인도 피아노의 연주에 있어서는 초절기교를 자랑했다네요(그의 제자들의 연주성향으로 미루어 보았을 때)
@Cziffra György
