Capless Gas Tank Problem Solved for fuel additives and refueling with a gas can.

  • Newer model vehicles have capless fueling ports. A normal gas pump nozzle is long enough to open both both vent doors, which are spaced a few inches apart. If you open a bottle of fuel additive and dump it in: the liquid will make it only as far as the second trap door and not pass through, filling up just the little area in between, and overflow onto your vehicle. The same goes for using a new style, worthless and cumbersome gas can available now. The California Air Resources Board destroyed what used to be a safe, efficient and clean way to move fuel from your portable gas tank to the receiving equipment. Now your nozzles aren't long enough to do the job, take two hands to operate the fidgety nozzle, and gulp the air through the nozzle instead of having a vent on the can to allow for smooth flow. Over regulated. Under quality control checked by actually users.

Wow! You are the best! Saved me saved me saved me!! I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why gas wasn’t going in and was spilling everywhere. Thanks so much!

The capless gas fill. They are absolutely terrible. After a recent rain I opened the fuel door and observed water pooled on top of the trap door. I had to blot it out with a dry paper towel trying not to push against the trap door. There is no telling how much water has penetrated the trap door.

I always forget about the stupid second door at the gas station and have fuel additives running all over the place. Drives me bonkers.

My daughter ran out of gas and the guy that came to help her stuck a long filler hose down in there, but got it stuck and couldn’t get it back out so he cut the end off of it which is now below the first,
Flapper, any suggestions on how to get it out?

How long is the nozzle that’s right by your thumb ? I found one at the dollar tree and I think it is long enough but not sure .I have a traverse and that’s going to be a problem because it is so high . How can I test it ? Thank you so much .

Needs to be long enough to hit and open that second stop. Can get thick too fast or it will stop it from going in.
