Thanks for the tutorial bro you made it easy to understand! I have a camaro and I’ve been wanting to use my paddles for a while and this video helped me a lot!
I drive mine manual mode all the time now, it helps if you have either a catback or muffler delete, just so you hear the shifting and makes it more fun to drive 👍🏽
thank you for making this video. I just bought a ‘23 Corolla with this feature, which is a new thing I’m learning about. Your video is the most straight forward, easy to understand one I’ve found. Well done
I just bought an automatic FR-S for my sister and noticed the shifter paddles on the steering wheel … I’m quite excited to play with steering wheel paddles lol! I mostly drive stick shift for my toys , but this looks fun lol
Dude such a great video on how to use paddle shifters. I literally had to watch like 4 different videos to understand it but thank u for actually making it easy to follow
Very helpful 👌🏻 I’ve had my 2017 auto brz for almost 2 years and haven’t really tried using the manual mode cause I didn’t want to mess any thing up with my car but I tried it out after this video and it wasn’t bad at all ((: so thank you
2nd gear generates more power so it makes you faster for merging overtaking etc, thats where the saying “drop a gear and disappear” comes from as lower gears got more power 😊
Does your gear up and gear down work on your shifter ? Not the paddles but the shifter it self. Mine will downshift but not upshift. Or it takes 50 tries at least to shift up
I started using it because it's awesome but also because my car will randomly downshift at moments when I don't really need it to. Like I'm trying to go the speed limit in a 25MPH zone and it wants to upshift or downshift abruptly
Do you keep your foot on the accelerator when you upshift/downshift? I hear the car stop accelerating for a second when the car shifts up and i cant tell if you took your foot off or if the car just does that automatically…
Is this a CVT? Coz my 2025 Corolla Hatchback it's downshift by itself when you hit the brake but in my 4Runner it doesn't, Driver still in control in downshifting.
When he was making the point that the computer will not let you downshift to a gear that will destroy the car, and said alright I’m going to downshift to first right here. I thought oh here comes the money shift.
So something he didn't talk about is manual modes still shift for you. So for you its basically telling the tcm "you can only shift till 4th gear." So your tc will go 1-2-3-4 but when it hits 4th the revs will keep rising till either you upshift, or you get to a point where the car forces you to upshift to prevent damage. So when you first put it in "manual mode" at a stop, down shift to first and you'll be good to go
Have you done anything to upgrade the cooling, fluid, gear ratios and final drive ratio? I heard all of those things make a huge difference. Do you let your foot off the gas when you down shift?
It's cool to have both auto and manual options, especially since 'real' manuals are mostly a thing of the past. It's a night and day difference. Old school manuals are the best, but paddle shifters are better than the ho hum auto.
It is a thing of the Past. I just got an 86 and got it in Automatic. Having Both options is a perfect compromise. I Commute alot and having the Auto option is great when im tired off work and i just want to get home. and when i want to have some fun i can switch it to Manual Mode and either feel like a Rally Driver with the Up-down Shifter or a F1 Formula Racer with the Paddle Shifters. Its Awesome Alot of Manual Purists cant see beyond the clutch pedal, and while that is a great experience, its NOT the only one. Modern Competitive Racing at its highest level is all about Sequential gearboxes, paddle shifters and Shifters without the H-Pattern just make it Much faster to switch gears and its far more reliable. If you ask me this car in Automatic is more akin to Modern GT Racing competitions than its Manual counterpart.
Bro, I recognize this road. Do you live in Stone Mountain/Tucker? You just drove past my old middle school, Stone Mountain Middle, and was on E Ponce Leon for a bit. I actually live near that road, around Memorial Drive Road. I think I might have seen you around sometimes. Hope to see you sometime on the road. I am getting the new GR 86 soon!
I drove my frs to Georgia many years ago stone mountain tucker is pretty kool for drifting and the 28 and hwy 10 west is nice to drive on stonecrest mall is a old hangout spot
I own a 2014 FR-S Auto. I was expecting the Automatic to be sluggish, but to my surprise its pretty responsive, minimal lag for a car with no DCT. Upshifts are quicker than the downshifts though. But you wouldn't regret getting an Automatic TBH.
No. Manual mode is still technically the computer shifting just with your prompts. All you’re doing is giving the computer control of when to shift. There isn’t 2 different transmissions it’s switching between, just programs
you regret not getting a manual? if yes why? if not why? do you know how to drive manual and was it ever a consideration? No judging just like hearing opinions from auto brz owners.
He and I both live in Atlanta, and traffic here is one of the worst in the country due to how the infrastructure is. Sitting in traffic is the daily routine here and if you want to have a sports car that you can daily like the 86, the traffic is a big conversation
Finally found a channel with a brother that’s not a hellcat channel
😂 aye facts!
😂😂😂
😆😆😆
Thanks for the tutorial bro you made it easy to understand! I have a camaro and I’ve been wanting to use my paddles for a while and this video helped me a lot!
man respect to you for being able to teach perfectly. you helped me with most my concerns with driving sequential. Best video out there.
Thanks big dawg, helped a lot, you can also use paddle shifters to downshift in automatic mode for anyone who didn’t know
Best video on paddle shifting right here. Simply explained with very good visual. Thanks👍
Out of all the videos I watched on youtube, this is the only helpful one. Thanks so much for the in-depth explanation.
Well done
So how does the the cvt feel with simulated gear shifts?
Thanks for this. Bro sick tutorial ,next one should be sport mode +manually
This was the most comprehensive tutorial I could've watched for my '16 brz, preesh bro
just copped the same whip and this the best explanation ive gotten besides 'jus keep it outta manual bro.' great vid family!
I just bought an automatic FR-S for my sister and noticed the shifter paddles on the steering wheel … I’m quite excited to play with steering wheel paddles lol!
I mostly drive stick shift for my toys , but this looks fun lol
Broooo this example is soooo good thank u man!!
Shift at 3.5 - 5.5 to get that sweet pop
Down shift?
@@sentinelcrypto3801 upshift as well. I have a muffler delete, and mine has a slight pop. Especially between 3,500-4,000 RPMs.
Prolly the best video I’ve came across on explaining everything
Dude such a great video on how to use paddle shifters. I literally had to watch like 4 different videos to understand it but thank u for actually making it easy to follow
If you never driven a manual, this video is for you. Manual drivers, you already know what to do
Brilliant content! Thank you for taking the time to make this!
This is so cool! I just got my BRZ to 1k so I am ready to drive in manual mode! Thanks for the guide and tips
Much love! Thanks for this informational content!
Thank you for explaining this to me. much appreciated.
Very helpful 👌🏻 I’ve had my 2017 auto brz for almost 2 years and haven’t really tried using the manual mode cause I didn’t want to mess any thing up with my car but I tried it out after this video and it wasn’t bad at all ((: so thank you
Great to hear!
Thank you brotha mane
Finally the right video for real paddle shifter usage. 🎉
Ik this is a year old so you wont see this but ive been looking for a video on the manual mode in the sion and this makes me want to get it even more
Best video out there to learn thanks
Serious question. Why did you downshift to 2nd gear before getting on the highway
2nd gear generates more power so it makes you faster for merging overtaking etc, thats where the saying “drop a gear and disappear” comes from as lower gears got more power 😊
Definitely the easiest tutorial to understand
Does your gear up and gear down work on your shifter ? Not the paddles but the shifter it self. Mine will downshift but not upshift. Or it takes 50 tries at least to shift up
That was really helpful thanks 🙏
Great video, very informative. Thanks so much!!
I started using it because it's awesome but also because my car will randomly downshift at moments when I don't really need it to. Like I'm trying to go the speed limit in a 25MPH zone and it wants to upshift or downshift abruptly
do you keep your feet on throttle while downshifting to overtake people?
Do you keep your foot on the accelerator when you upshift/downshift? I hear the car stop accelerating for a second when the car shifts up and i cant tell if you took your foot off or if the car just does that automatically…
It will do it automatically, that's just the sound of the car switching clutches in the DCT or something
My 2015 frs does not let me downshift what could that be?
Is this a CVT? Coz my 2025 Corolla Hatchback it's downshift by itself when you hit the brake but in my 4Runner it doesn't, Driver still in control in downshifting.
Not a cvt
This is exactly what I was looking for
so when u slow down itll downshift for u?
Correct
If your in sports mode atleast for this car it downshifts more aggressively
@@TheSoloSin okay cool thank u i have it on my car ive never tried it but i probably will now
What exhaust setup do you have in this video?
My padels are sticky like, my signals also flash while i'm paddling kinda cool!
When he was making the point that the computer will not let you downshift to a gear that will destroy the car, and said alright I’m going to downshift to first right here. I thought oh here comes the money shift.
Why does my scion tc start at s4 ? Instead of gear 1

how to take off fast from light?
U can also shift gears in D mode.
Yeah he mentioned that
What do you mean by shifting to the lowest possible ?
What exhaust do you have?
Have you done anything to upgrade the cooling, fluid, gear ratios and final drive ratio? I heard all of those things make a huge difference. Do you let your foot off the gas when you down shift?
Nope the only after market cooling on the car is the oil cooler at this time. And no you can keep your foot in throttle
Is it safe to use the paddle shift all the time or most the time? Or is it worse on engine or transmission since its a automatic
It will not harm your transmission
Is this applicable in D mode... i did to my honda cvt paddle shifters but only in sports mode.. and its may 1st tym to do it and wow i love it..
So you’re telling me.. coming to a stop on fifth gear, I don’t have to down shift? When I stop it’ll downshift for me?
yes
so helpful. thanks 🙏 my daily is 2017 camaro 2ss
It's cool to have both auto and manual options, especially since 'real' manuals are mostly a thing of the past. It's a night and day difference. Old school manuals are the best, but paddle shifters are better than the ho hum auto.

do you downshift when on the throttle or you get off it?
Off throttle
Gonna try overtaking everyone On my way! To work tomorrow 😀
Is this a Brz Limited? I’m trying to get one with the paddle shifters
no but all models of the brz has paddle shifters as long as its auto

It’s a small world. I got family (on my grandmother’s side), that live in Tucker.
So down shifting makes you go faster? I got a veloster rally turbo idk how to use them shits lol
Can it damage the car by putting manual everyday and everytime or not
I doubt, I’m pretty sure redlining and late shifts do
Thanks bro💪🏽
Did u sound proof the trunk? If not whats the exhaust on it?
I though the frs was manual ? Or do you have 2
I have 2
Nice tutorial
So when do you know to upshift after pulling ?
near redline
The W est video i’ve ever watch
That meliodas tattoo on the dash. Where did u get it or how did u place it?
Sanded the dash down and someone painted it for me
Do I have to enable sport mode while using manual mode? Thanks
No you do not
@@TheSoloSin why not?
@@Jucedupi10 cause you don’t have to
Best shifting video on YT. HONKHONKHONK
Good video
Have you done your transmission fluid change?
I have not
So when u slow down it down shifts by itself?
Yes
best video out
Swear I clicked on a marques brownlee vid at 1st
Lool😂
very nice video !
question: do you feel a delay when you shift in an automatic? about to get an 86 but thinking which one is better, manual or an auto tranny
I own a 2014 FR-S Auto. I was expecting the Automatic to be sluggish, but to my surprise its pretty responsive, minimal lag for a car with no DCT. Upshifts are quicker than the downshifts though. But you wouldn't regret getting an Automatic TBH.
Downshifting is oddly satisfying
13:10 don’t that ruin ur car?
I believe for Sport mode you want to come to a complete stop before applying, could be the same for the M to D
No. Manual mode is still technically the computer shifting just with your prompts. All you’re doing is giving the computer control of when to shift. There isn’t 2 different transmissions it’s switching between, just programs

How to use paddle shifters...
proceeds to basically not use the paddle shifters for the entire video.
Brilliant.
Why not get a real manual car much better than auto
thanks a lot for sharing this🫡
