I was INCREDIBLY happy my '13 escaped the valve spring issue. After checking my mail and finding my recall notice, then checking maaaaany sites against my VIN and finally calling my dealer, I found out mine was just a few off the line after that happened. The cricket noises... kinda. My '13 is fairly quiet at idle, save for the normal Subaru noisy engine stuff. Just what it do. Torque dip can be improved with the Openflash tablet, which I got for adding launch control 2step noises for shits and giggles. Another thing you might have is shitty idle that goes up and down at lights even when it's warmed up and you're not changing engine loads, etc. Found out that is just what it do stock. Dealer can update the ECU firmware, or the Openflash tablet will cut that out for you. Pffffff RPF1s. It ain't a Civic. Still looking out for a set of Enkei Kojins in my area. I'm not gonna widebody it. It's a lil guy, it's gonna stay a lil guy. Bought it because I fell in love with the aero the way it is. Widebody looks great, but isn't my thing. Also fitting into half a parking space is fun. I'm still on the fence about boosting mine. It's more than fun enough, and from the seat, when it hits 3500+ RPM it feels like a different car, kinda wakes up and remembers it's a sportscar. I daily mine for 3 seasons and I need reliability over stututututu noises. Also gas mileage. Went with cheap Teins for suspension and I may swap those for something more adjustable later. The Tein basis Z set has been fine for 5 years now and my only complaint is that hitting a pothole feels like you dropped your shopping cart off a curb you weren't expecting to be there. Learn where they are and avoid them. I turn dodging them into a game lol. If I had to do suspension over again though, like if the Teins suddenly drop out of the car, I'm gonna spend a lot more on a better set. Actually one other small complaint is the rears don't come down far enough with stock wheels. Even with a set of spacers it's slightly off where I want it. Bottoming out the height on the fronts looks perfect though. A set of anything 18" would fix the fitment. Specific wheels are just hard to find in Canada though. My exhaust is an MXP Comp RS. Couldn't be happier with the tone. Does lil baby pops decelerating and I can make it do it on command, just don't expect angry AMG noises from just a catback. Without the cats and with headers it'd be even better but I also like not getting tickets. The Comp RS is a little drony on the highway but not terrible. It's loud, but not obnoxious, and at city speeds it's barely noticable while moving with traffic. If you drive the thing in winter, which I did for two years before getting a 4x4 truck for a second vehicle, you will both have hilarious amounts of fun and irritation. The fun comes from flying up an on ramp at 5k RPM thirty degrees sideways and spinning off every stoplight without nanny mode TCS on, and the irritation comes from the windows: The windows are frameless, and roll down an inch to break the seal as you get out. Only in winter, if the window is frozen shut, and you get in to go to work, the window can't roll down, and the computer resets. Then you get to work, and get out, the window rolls down, but doesn't roll the 1 inch back up. You then have to get back in the car, turn the key to run, roll the window allllll the way down (snow and ice in your lap lol), then alllll the way back up. Then get out and it now remembers that it has to roll back up. Made me a couple min late to work many times sitting in the lot fiddling with my stupid windows Do what I did and pull the relay for what controls the windows before winter. No power windows then, but it's less annoying. Or get a second vehicle for winter like me :D The second irritation comes from the seatbelt chime. DEAR GOD. Put so much as a few sheets of paper on your passenger seat and you get MEEEEEP MEEEEEP for an entire minute as you drive away. There is however a box you can plug in behind the stereo that eliminates both that and the pedal dance to disable TCS completely. People also don't know about the trunk safe lol. If you clean your trunk, and then your fob and the cabin button won't pop it, pop it with the key and look for a button on the far left that disables popping the trunk electronically. Great for expensive audio equipment. Good luck if you lock your keys in your trunk with that on, as the seat releases are also in the trunk. Also don't try to stick a 12" sub in the trunk. She don't fit. Sorry for the essay. :)
I know you already bought a tracbox but you can also use Toyota techstream to disable seatbelt chime. I got a copy on eBay with a obd cable and changed all kinds of settings in the car. Disabled the daytime lights because one had gone out, changed the delay on the cabin light when you stop the car, there’s a ton of stuff in there. Plus you can bleed the brakes and do health checks and get check engine light codes reset from there.
I was a huge fan of Initial D and when I finished the series, I originally loved the introduction of the new-gen 86 when it came out. I am now picking up my 22’ BRZ this Saturday and so stoked. Although I cannot stand the camber on the wheels that people do that end up destroying the car on bumps.
When you buy one you will see way more cringe A/T, wide bodies with a big wing on bags. Love the 86 and BRZ but most people who buy them are a special kind of dumb. If you plan to do a performance build and talk to other BRZ/86 owners they just get glazed over eyes and just say what about rocket bunny. If I didn’t absolutely love the car it would be an embarrassing car to have due to the association with other owners hahaha sorry rant over.
@Lapsio idk mine is very low and the kw coilovers are significantly better than stock i notice a massive improvement in handling. Just exiting corners is a bit more tricky.
Got my 86 in thunder gray color with stage 2 e85 with a tune. Totally agree with the difference in feel once tuned with a header, esp adding e85 to the mix gives that area of where the torque dip is a punch.
So i've been running e85 for about a year and a half now and I have had zero issues. There are some things that I noticed like my oil burning quicker than it would on 91 and having to fill up more often but that's normal for running ethanol. I recently started to use some lucas ethanol conditioner just to be extra on the caring part of it but in all it's a fun experience if you're looking to make more power on the engine without using a turbo/supercharger. 👍
Well Delicious Tuning has ran a dyno with a completely stock frs/brz that made about 200hp with ethanol. These cars make about 165 to 170 stock on the dyno. It's a decent bump up for a lightweight car and it honestly all comes down to what mods you have and the tune that you're using. My best guess is that i'm making about 40 more horsepower than stock and 30 more pounds of torque.
My 2013 FRS is modified, but only with brake pads & tires (and a sticker). Purchased in August 2012, I found her to be the best drivers car that I have ever owned. And yes, she's still in my garage. I say her as I have named her after my late wife. Save for my mods, she's completely stock after any recall repairs. After all these years, I still do not hear the crickets that everyone complains about. I've driven her on the back roads in WI, the road coarse @ BIR, Tail of the Dragon and the city streets where I live. My daily driver when there is no snow on the ground. More fun than my motorcycles ever were. Whereas, I do appreciate your enthusiasm about the platform. I do however, need to correct your power statement. You show power estimates that are crank power, not wheel power.
The impacted cars with the valve spring issue (model year 2013) are those built & sold in 2012 and early built in 2013. Check the vin, don’t let a good deal on a 2013 FR-S or BRZ slip thinking all 2013 have this problem! Typically if you get a 10 Series built in June it shouldn’t have it. The chirping isn’t just a 2013 thing. They did that for several years until 2017. It’s noticeable if you idle with your hood open or idle at a drive thru as the sound of the metallic chirp bounces of a wall right back at you. They changed the fuel pump for MY2016 and it kept chirping, in MY2017 they changed the fuel pump cam to reduce friction then the chirps went away. The torque dip wasn’t mostly resolved until the second gen, boosting and changing the headers plus a tune will fix this. A E85 tune by itself will help slightly. The 2012-13 FR-S/BRZ still have the cooler front bumper cover (refreshed MY2017 look like the mouth of a catfish).
My ‘13 is still a great car almost 10 years in. I love it every time I go around a corner! Had the valve spring recall done because it was a must for Ca registration but has been fine since. Mild mods: OpenFlash tune, Borla catback, 8.5x17 Forgestar F14 with Pilot Sport AS3+, RCE springs, shift springs. Considering building a flat bottom/splitter/diffuser. Maybe a blower someday?
One of the things you missed was the Throw Out Bearing in the transmission. Some are good forever but, like mine, it will wear out and start grinding. If not addressed, it could damage your trans snout and seize your transmission causing it not to engage at all. It sounds like a whining/grinding noise when you push in the clutch.
The crickets is from ethanol. When I was stationed in Germany using 98RON, it had less ethanol than the US. I never heard the crickets for three straight years until I came back.
got a tomei uel header, remark muffler delete and my brz sounds like a blobeye EJ. E85 tune helps the torque dip, and i just got my first set of wheels from you guys. @@FitmentIndustries hell yes it was. I asked the dealer how many calls he got on the car after I bought it and he pulled out a freaking stack of post-it notes with people's names in case I backed out. I called and bought the car less than 20 min after it was listed. No joke, I made over a hundred phone calls to over a hundred different dealers all around the country before I found one. Naturally I didn't get to pick my own color or trim (beggers, choosers, and all that) but luckily it was premium trim and the trueno blue is really growing on me. I even lucked out and it was within driving distance. The round trip I made yesterday to pick the car up was over 15 hours of driving and I'd do it again if I needed to. To anybody that's trying to buy one of these, call the dealer and ask if they're going to be "allocated" the car any time soon. Specifically use that word, "allocate." That's what they call it when toyota gives them cars to sell that haven't been custom ordered/pre-purchased. Most of the allocations are being sold well before the dealer actually has the car, often before the car is even finished so they don't even have pictures. They don't really know what they're getting until shortly before it happens. If they don't have one or if they have a long wait list, just keep expanding your search radius and keep calling toyota dealers. If it's an out of state dealer, lead with asking them if they will even sell out of state because some can't do it or just don't want to. You really can get lucky. I found one before this for sale in NY but it was really early in my search and I didn't realize that I needed to buy it immediately. I thought about it for a few hours and by then, it was gone. So just don't give up, you might get lucky.
gotta 22 gr86 and changed out the exhaust to an N1. i dont think id ever do the widebody overly agressive look unless i can also mod the engine to match it. Dont wanna be riced out.
Hey its just some more popular ones we are aware of, but thanks for the recommendation! 🙂 will give other homies an idea who read the comments. 🤘🤘 -Edgar
There good platforms but to be honest with what everyone is doing...they all look the same unfortunately, be different with your build and don't look like any other 86. 😑
86/brz/frs has got to be one of the best platforms there are! I've never seen so many after market options for one vehicle. Maybe the car scene is just saturated with them, but I've never seen two that were identical (unless stock)
Depends what you're going for! I think 17's would look good on the FRS, if anything take a look at our gallery and get a good idea! -Edgar www.fitmentindustries.com/wheel-offset-gallery
Drove a gt86 today and loved it. If I was going to buy a new budget sports car this is what I would buy 100% I have a turbo na miata now but screw the nd miata, the gt86 is wayy nicer.
Does anyone know the wheel that’s on the bottom left corner that’s a 5 spoke directional and silver, it’s on the 1st second of the video, it’s right under a 10 spoke wheel that’s in the middle row of wheels

i have a boosted frs on 9 pounds of boost making around 290, with a bbk, and enkei TY5 with ps4s all around. i do not recommend this car if you’re gonna beat the piss out of it. don’t be me. i’ve replaced 4 motors
i say don’t modify, just do the basic exhaust, wheels, suspension you should b good try to keep a budget and invest your money into something else because i wasted awayyy to much i definitely definitely don’t recommend modifying your car if you live in California because you’ll be stoped for not doing anything isn’t cheap and ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS to get it clear long process
@@FitmentIndustries none, as I dont have the car yet. lol but I plan on doing a CR Kiwami style in white 18in (not sure which tire yet) and some rpf1s 18s silver with the V2s. I had a asphalt frs a couple of years ago, loved it but needed something bigger, hence the thumbnail.
My 2014 FRS is pushing 90k on the odometer. No issues, I've kept it stock height and taken that baby on multiple trips, camping, deserts, snowy mountains, also got into small accidents but Toyota built this sucker tough, also surprisingly roomy as I've fit 5 people and so pack it to the max going to the beach and even fit a 50" new tv in the trunk. It's not perfect and I've thought about getting something else from time to time but overall pretty happy with it.
@@FitmentIndustries I got a check engine light and code P0353, 3’rd coil issue. Swapped 3’rd coil with first to check if this was a spark plug issue or just coil. Drove it for 40 km nothing happened. Today when I had to get somewhere check engine light appeared again and started to “flash” checked the codes, again 3’rd cylinder coil and misfire. Before tow truck arrived my 86 stared to flash its gauges and climate control panel then the battery died. They had to jump start it at the dealership, when they connected it by OBD it didn’t show any misfires at the time, besides the previous codes.
Don't buy the Rays, they're bunk as shit. They're called Gramslight but they're heavy as balls, they're like 29 lbs a wheel at 18x9.5. your stock wheels are approx 22-23lbs.
@@FitmentIndustries Tested out both, have friends who are still running BC's as well. For me, I went with BC Coils extreme lows for my first option. They were within my budget, had seen them on other tuners and gave them a shot. Daily driven and some autox for context. The top nut kept getting loose, have seen this issue a lot with the 1st gen BRZs on the forums. I also was one of the ones who had some clunky knocking sounds. The ride was meh, but I knew that for my budget at the time I wouldn't be getting exactly what I wanted. Fast forward to the pandemic and Silver's were available. Went with the neomax's 2 ways and I could not be happier!! They ride amazing, much difference. Adjustable damps are solid from the front to the back. For the price range, I can understand why folks would roll with BC's. But if you've got a bigger budget I'd no brainer go with Silvers. It's great to have them here in NA after they were not sold here for so long. I'm planning to continue on with Silver's even for my next car (COME ON GR COROLLA!)!!!
Well the thing is I like the car like it looks cool and performance is good but I’m not really a fan of the engine not gonna lie I don’t like to work on boxers
@@FitmentIndustries two reasons, 1 turbo charger and 2 ease of tuning stages… mqb for life🔥 I have a friend with a rocket bunny frs and it seems like he’s had a hell of a time trying to get any power from it, he’s got a supercharger on it it’s still super slow, on cruises he can’t keep up if your into park n chills by all means it’s a great car, but if you wanna go fast at all and not spend a fortune doing it vw/Audi is the way to go imo and they look way better.
Understandable! I know homies happy with both platforms and this is good insight to have. Thanks for that! 🙂 Do you and your homie happen to have your cars up on the gallery? Thats okay! 🙂 Hopefully once we start releasing some of our new lineups you'll find something that'll cater ya. What else is done to your Honda?! Do you it up on our gallery? If not you should add! -Edgar

❤️ thanks fam! What do you have all done to it?! Or any plans? -Edgar

Oooh thank you. I'm saving up for a BRZ too.
Lets go! 💪 you cant go wrong with it. -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Agreed.
Gels, I also have the Orange FRS. The red matches with red, just dont add any other colors to the interior.
Wow I just bought an fr-s
I just saw this video right after finishing my coil overs and was like is this a sign 😂
Ayeeee! How’s it looking?! -Edgar
Just picked a 2022 today and I'm honestly blown away that I found one for sale. It's actually possible guys 😆
Hell yeah! That’s good to hear haha, tricky to find right now! -Edgar
Question for everyone he said about avoid 2013 Frs and I bought one recently. Im worry about the 2 problems he said, should i keep it o sell it
@Fitment industries i want to know which fitment is used on the nfs prostreet Mazda rx7 of the players on the rear wheel
Disappointed the option labs R716 wasn’t recommended. They look amazing on my frs. Mine frs is red and I went with white r716
Hey its just some more popular ones we are aware of, but thanks for the recommendation! 🙂 will give other homies an idea who read the comments. 🤘🤘 -Edgar
Oil cooler should be the number thing you should get for this car if you getting headers go JDL UEL nothing else!
Good advice! Gracias. 👌👌👌 -Edgar
There good platforms but to be honest with what everyone is doing...they all look the same unfortunately, be different with your build and don't look like any other 86. 😑
That’s almost impossible. Anything you could possibly do has just about been done on these platforms.
If you bought a brz/frs to try and be different, then you bought the wrong car
86/brz/frs has got to be one of the best platforms there are! I've never seen so many after market options for one vehicle. Maybe the car scene is just saturated with them, but I've never seen two that were identical (unless stock)
I'm thinking of getting the Rays Gram Lights 57DR for my FRS, would you recommend 17" or 18"?
Depends what you're going for! I think 17's would look good on the FRS, if anything take a look at our gallery and get a good idea! -Edgar

@@FitmentIndustries Awesome thank you for replying! 🙏
17" for your daily and less speedometer headaches. 18" if you want better handling or so I've heard.

People that put air suspension etc on these are messing up what the car was intended for but to each their own.
They look good tho. I personally think! Haha, but yes, to each their own. -Edgar
Drove a gt86 today and loved it. If I was going to buy a new budget sports car this is what I would buy 100%
I have a turbo na miata now but screw the nd miata, the gt86 is wayy nicer.
The one I drove had a complete tomei exhaust, bc racing coil overs, and black te37 reps and looked really good
Very nice! So when are you going to pick yours up then? 👀👀👀 -Edgar

LS swap!!! I saw a small company’s brz ls swap. Dude said it spun in 4th gear at like 90

You got one detail wrong. Subaru did not make the whole drive train. Toyota made the transmission. That's why it's not awd.
Probably shouldn't have recommended the Falken Azenis FK510 since they're soon releasing the FK520.
Don’t stance it, track it one time with a proper instructor and then decide how you want to build it
Or leave it stock and just enjoy it. :-) i do anyways
But.. Wheels, Tires, Suspension 😥😥 -Edgar

I got an FRS 6 months ago and imma put a new exhaust on it this weekend lol

You should do one of these for genesis coupe and 370z

i say don’t modify, just do the basic exhaust, wheels, suspension you should b good try to keep a budget and invest your money into something else because i wasted awayyy to much i definitely definitely don’t recommend modifying your car if you live in California because you’ll be stoped for not doing anything isn’t cheap and ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS to get it clear long process
California laws are just rough in general.. -Edgar

Im getting another one period! Ima go with the Hankook Ventus v2s, see how they work on Missouri on/off ramps. 😁

My 86 with 6000km on odometer was towed to dealership today 👍. #SUBARURELIABILITY
What happened with it?! -Edgar

Ayo! Welcome to the thunderdome homie! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ -Edgar
Don't buy the Rays, they're bunk as shit. They're called Gramslight but they're heavy as balls, they're like 29 lbs a wheel at 18x9.5. your stock wheels are approx 22-23lbs.
Yes its a mistake to modd your new car. Everyone with modded cars have been recently targeted by cops in California on a daily basis lol
California just killing the vibe everytime man.. 🥲 -Edgar
Please don't go BC coils on these! Silvers are much better IMO
Have you tested them both out in assuming? What issues have ya ran with BCs? -Edgar
Just picked up a set of silvers for my 22’ BRZ, stoked to throw them on this Friday!
@SUH Glad to hear this fam! Any wheels on it yet? -Edgar
Thanks for the insight homie! and i agree! Im tempted to pick up a GR Corolla when they're out 👀 -Edgar

Brz frs whatever it’s all slow no matter what you do to it. Get a Volkswagen/Audi.
I agree with VW/Audi, why not both tho? Can still have a ton of fun with an 86 platform! -Edgar
