I saw Van Halen many times in the mid to late 70's I then saw them opening for and then blowing Black Sabbath off the stage, and Greg's book nails that early frenzy surrounding Van Halen. What impressed me most about them was how normal the guys were. They made time for the fans. Ed signed the back of the headstock on my Strat with a PAF in the bridge position that was influenced by Ed's tone. I still own the guitar.
I hang out with Ted in Australia after we met at party my band were playing at. Smoked a few talked about music as you do and remember him being a gentleman with a tremendous attitude to life. Really can't recall the year but 79 ish I think he was in the country with Dobie Gray.
Ted really made the classic VH what they were. It would be nice if he could give them guidance once again. Ted went on to produce "Eat Em And Smile - David Lee Roth" , and that album cooks.
I respect and admire all involved with the GREATEST AMERICAN ROCK BAND EVER. I have a entire new appreciation for our republic . Any country that could produce and provide a place for this to band to happen and grow has got to be the greatest place in the world . Regardless of what some people have been saying about our country as of late America IS the greatest place on the face of the earth. Dave inserted a much needed element into a visually boring stale white anglo world of music that is now immortal . Great book. Just bought some for friends and fam.
It was truly the perfect storm. People were so sick of disco and ready for something different. Eddie was not only a visionary, but had the talent and balls to make that vision a reality! VH didn't just play music. They took you to a party where you believed anything was possible. There was gonna be a fight or two. The cops were gonna show up. But, at the end of the night, you would ALWAYS leave with the hot chick!
Hi Greg I hope you are well. I was wondering if there is a transcript of the interview. I guess my hearing is not what it was but I find it hard to make out most of it. Peter K.
So, you rolled tape and it was awesome? Wow, thanks for the brilliant insight there, Ted. Dude, go outside and smoke a joint, or something and freaking loosen up.
Wow, "Ted, would you do another Van Halen record?" Ted: "Oh Yea!" Just to think how awesome it could have been if Ted and Don Landee joined the band at 5150 back in 2015 and produced another Van Halen record!!!!! My mind goes crazy thinking about what could have been!!!!
@@RedGarnett-n2pwhy would a real van halen fan take something poppier and goofier than anything the classic lineup did? Vai’s talking guitar is goofy as shit and not to mention nobody wants to hear thats life and im easy
Does Ted have any old songs hes been recorded playing his horn ? if so what are they. Ted is a cool old head. Thanks Ted Good job baby. Swing it out old gate.
I felt like say, c'mon Ted gimme a break!! I could barely hear him speak, and he seem like he didn't want to be there. I know people in California are supposed to be laid back, but his pulse is one beat away from being dead.
in several books it was noted that Edward and Alex despised Ted Templeman because Ted wanted to steer the group with songs he felt they should do. Plus Ted sided with Dave as far as music choices go.
@@mikewallace1270 lol something like that - the VH boys were thrilled to get 25% - not realizing it was 25% of 1% - basically 25 cents for every dollar
The book itself was built goddamned cheaply. I bought it and the 1st day I had it pages were falling out of the binding... And the writing itself was not captivating at all...

Thanks for sharing. Were you interviewed for the book?

Thanks for posting this! Wish the audio was a little louder.
"Common Ted give us a break"! Lol
One break coming' up!
Loved the book.

Quote from the DLR, Van Halen interview, by Alex "Yeah but he's still Ted." Lol!
Donn Landee did the final mix on VH 1 at Sunset Sound.
Reading this book now

LOL. Totally agree. What a disappointment.

Ted knew it was a better route to go with Dave and stay away from 5150 eat em and smile blows 5150 off the map

=== awesome !!!!!!!!!!!
Ted Templeman, now there's a guy who stepped in s%^&. God bless him.
I hope Ted didn't do the audio :p
a lot of those studio guys are soft spoken. drives me nuts because i can't hear anymore
can't the mc talk any faster
I thought Ted would have more insights into his own role and experience and at least tell us a story or two....weird
Ted is a quiet type guy, always has been from what I understand, very humble.
The band deserves the credit. Ted couldn't lose.

Because Ted and DLR spin the dradel

I thought that was a balding Bruce Dickinson in the thumbnail
Ted must need the money
doubt that... but sure looks like hes board as shit
He’s much richer than you can imagine. Even multi millionaires write books
He must need the money what a moronic statement you must not know much about Van Halen
What happened to i want some action what the hell
WISH THEY ASKED TED MORE QUESTION NOBODY CARES ABOUT GREG
I DO …..I’ve talked to Greg in pms. ….He’s a good guy.
Ted = 90 percent of money. VH 10 percent split 4 ways.
Old post but is that true?

Agreed on both. Book fell apart and not well written.
Ted stole most of Van Halen money
Carlos Lozada yeah. He was one of the conspirators
Come on Dave, gimme a break.
