Hey Everyone, I hope all is well. Please don’t forget to leave a like and subscribe if you haven’t already, it really means so much! Thanks again for all the love and support on this series so far, I can’t wait to react to the next set of episodes! ❤
After Voll had that moment of dementia (not remembering Frieren already defeated the Demon King), his situation became even more heartbreaking to me. If you think about it, by not telling him the Demon King was gone Frieren actually tried to protect him; the whole reason he's still here is to keep the village from harm-as his wife's wish was for its residents to experience an era of peace after the Demon King was defeated. Making her wish come true was his promise to her. Knowing it already came through meant he had no purpose to keep on living. After all, Voll's love for her is the final thing that binds him to this world. Frieren didn't want to do that to him, as dwarves don't conventionally believe in an afterlife and in death being reunited with loved ones. So as a friend, dwarf, warrior (who keeps fighting till the end) and a husband, she didn't want to risk hurting him. This way Voll would continue to keep the love for and memory of his wife alive (as well as himself).
I wouldn't go that far, after all there are still monsters to protect the village from. So his purpose remained. It seemed more like that she saw no reason to confuse him by trying to explain it. His dementia seems to come and go as well, and likely developed recently (since he simply pretended to be senile 80 years ago), so he likely lived for decades knowing the demon king was dead.
Your personality shines so brightly and is so enjoyable in these reactions. I hope you blow up and get super popular cause you're by FAR my favorite reactor to this show!
It's tragic that Himmel & Frieren's love never blossomed, but Stern has youth on their side and I am with you Allie, when will it be official official. Old man Voll's story is beautifully tragic and it shouldn't make ppl wish to avoid such pain, but ppl should instead hope they love someone this much.
The curse affects the area like radiowaves in a sense Priests are the only people strong against curses. You need to have a knack for it to be one because 'Magic of the Goddess' is a mysterious kind of magic like curses are 'mysterious' for humans. You could also say the more you are cut out to be a priest the more immunity you acquire against curses and the ability to use more complex spells from a Holy Scripture will also come with it. Also because it is a kind of magic the familiarity with Mana will give you a natural defense. (Frieren herself can also tell that a curse is being used on her but she can't analyze or defend against it) That's why Stark slept very early (Warrior) Then after some time Fern (Mage) And Frieren at last ('Great'Mage)
seeing your emotional reactions really resonates with me, this show makes me ugly cry all the time even on the rewatches and I ugly cry here even though I know what's coming next. thank you for reacting!
What a great two episodes lol, both hit hard. Old Man Voll is senile or has some form of dementia. The story showed that Frieren was blowing it off as a joke as a way to deny it, but was confronted with it as a fact during the discussion on the cliff. She's coming to terms with the fact that she, in the end, will ultimately be the only one to carry the memories of everything, Voll being no exception. He used to remember a fair portion of the older time Frieren remembers, but that too is already fading, and his life is almost at an end.
Wirt's backstory always hits me particularly hard. Growing up my dad was kind of a shithead, but he mellowed out and we made up years later, but in the final year or two of his life, his health conditions started making him regress. He went back to being the mean, abusive guy that myself and my sisters couldn't stand. I was the only of my siblings who still lived nearby though, and even though we fought all the time, I still went over to help out around the house and take care of him when his girlfriend was getting overwhelmed and needed a break a few times a week. But we had a really big fight the last time I was over. But I'm so grateful instead of returning his rage again, I just said I loved him cuz I knew he didn't have much time left and I worried about what my final words to him might be. He returned it with "Thanks for nothing." and it stung, still does. Two nights later his girlfriend called me and said a helicopter air lifted him to the hospital a few hours ago, and they're saying now that he's not going to wake up, I went to say my goodbyes but there were no more words he could say to me. Every day I still hear his words ringing through my head. As much as it hurt hearing the last thing he said to me being what it was, I'm still grateful that the last words he ever heard from me at least wasn't something angry. So yeah I really agree with what you said at the end of 15 and I wanna convey that to anyone who might read my comment to know how much it can mean for you to just let go when you need to. Course, this doesn't always apply, sometimes people do things that are worth breaking off the relationship for good, but that's not the discussion.
4:52 Magic in this world needs to be fully understood before mages can manipulate spells and develop counter spells. The best you can do without understanding the principles behind it is replicate the spell. Frieren was saying that mages don’t understand how curses work hence she can’t make a proper counter.
I swear I get even more emotional when I watch along with your reaction than I did when I watched it myself the first time. 😭 I didn't know there was a crying disease and Ali somehow infected me across a youtube video 😅
imagine stark and fern having a kid so its a magical warrior that's wielding an axe with tank defense and overpowered offense, my god! the devs need to nerf
Remember, before Kraft became a monk he was an ancient warrior and hero, now LOOOONG forgotten. We do NOT know who the other person with him. Its not been revealed in the manga.
25:37. He did forget, she didn't tell him that they've defeated the Demon King because his only duty up until know was defending the village, if the Demon King is defeated there was no purpose for him to do that, so Frieren decided to just let him believe that he's still on duty.
a little fun fact about the names in this show: most people already know they are german names. Fern means 'far away' and Stark means 'strong'. If you combine Stark and Fern into their ship name you get Stern, which is another german word that means 'star'. 'far away' and 'strong' give you a 'star'. I find that quite nice.
0:32 "I need my own Himmel in my life." Don't we all? The reason why Sein wasn't affected by the curse while Frieren succumbed is because Sein is a priest. Priests use holy magic from the Goddess which gives them immunity to curses. Frieren isn't a priest nor does she use/have holy magic. As such, she is not immune to curses. Being as experienced of a mage as she is, Frieren is more _resistant_ to curses (hence why she was able to stay awake longer than Stark and Fern), but being _resistant_ isn't the same as being _immune_. 7:40 Fern looks so cute sleeping on Stark's shoulder like that. If they're not your favorite ship by now, what are you even doing with your life? 11:17 Need I say more? Stark just coming in with that rizz. And again at 13:17 I knew you'd love Stark and Fern's dance. Apparently that dance was entirely hand drawn, not CG. 14:07 "Shall we dance as well?" "I'm going to eat cake." Honestly, same. I totally relate to Frieren in that moment.
no worry mate, the emotional damage combo is almost over, next big arc of the show you will go by without crying your eyes out, but still being top notch story til the end we can tell you that much.
24:10 After watching again, you really pick up even more subtleties. It was edited out in your video, but when Frieren comes back from her memory of Himmel saying he has handsome poses for her to remember, it's the first time in the series that she's smiling when she says she wasted her memory remembering them. All previous times when Himmel's narcissism was displayed, she always showed indifference. To me it seemed like a significant milestone of Frieren really starting to understand the feelings Himmel had for her, even though she couldn't/can't reciprocate them. And since timing in this series is so important with what information we're given and when, it's very fitting since it's with Voll's memories of his dead wife and the previous episodes with Fern/Stark and the ring Himmel gave her.
''Fern was too shy to look at his face'' is something that is just your imagination hahaha, u are so involved in pairing them romantically that u feel extra intention into every interaction with each other xD ,,, although of course it is denoted that they gonna be a couple in the future, they simply do not have that type of things in mind because of how each of them grew up away from living with more people than their teachers, they love each other, yes, they know that the other is important to them, but the romantic part as such is simply not there,,,,also about the plant monster at the beggining they discuss earlier in the episode how priests resist curses, they call it the blessing of the goddess, It's just that sometimes you get distracted making comments between the lines and you miss small details of which they give hints and so on
Hi there, just a critique thing I want to note is that the editing choice you made to add different levels of zooms on your face cam footage isn't that pleasant to look at. Most people when watching anime reactions are probably focusing their eyes on the anime subtitles and occasionally looking at you, back and forth, but now with the jumpy zooms it feels really off putting for the eyes. It's fine whenever you are pausing it to discuss something, then the viewers eyes goes and focuses on you, so its not as disorientating, but during the actual anime reacting it is disorientating. Occasionally doing a zoom in for reacting to a special moment or whatever is fine too, but the constant back and forth for not much reason is what's disorientating. Basically the way you've edited before (before this specific video) was completely fine. Hope you aren't offended by this comment, just trying to give some feedback that other's might not bother to give even though it might also be annoying them. (actually, I wrote that halfway through the video, it seems you aren't really doing much of those zooms for the 2nd episode so I guess that was more of an isolated situation for that episode there)

They discuss earlier in the episode how priests resist curses, they call it the blessing of the goddess.

Thank you for the explanation!
Everything about Old Man Volls story always makes me so emotional 😢
I swear I get even more emotional when I watch along with your reaction than I did when I watched it myself the first time. 😭
I didn't know there was a crying disease and Ali somehow infected me across a youtube video 😅
Fern smiling is all I wanted when they were dancing and it delivered in spades.
Old Man Voll having a dream about his wife still makes me tear up.
Old Man Voll was just senile. He doesn't remember that the Demon King was already defeated.
That was the point Frieren realised he wasn't joking. He really is losing his memory.
imagine stark and fern having a kid so its a magical warrior that's wielding an axe with tank defense and overpowered offense, my god! the devs need to nerf
Yeah... when old people dream about their long lost loved ones, it is said they meet them soon...
Remember, before Kraft became a monk he was an ancient warrior and hero, now LOOOONG forgotten. We do NOT know who the other person with him. Its not been revealed in the manga.
Let's go! Can't wait to get to the dance scene, so pretty!
Old Man Voll is such a great episode.
25:37. He did forget, she didn't tell him that they've defeated the Demon King because his only duty up until know was defending the village, if the Demon King is defeated there was no purpose for him to do that, so Frieren decided to just let him believe that he's still on duty.
You're right about the comparison with Voll's wife. A subtle detail about how important Himmel is to her.

I wish I was half as smooth as himmel
Definitely, Stark has all status resistances in negative... XDD

Not only she, but the team defeated the King of Damon

surely the demon king was killed right...
