Maybe, but from what we've seen of her backstory I think its actually the opposite. She did learn these things from her brothers, but by watching them. Her brothers probably wrestled with each other while they treated her like a dainty princess. Essentially, Lawine's bullying Kanne with tough love because Kanne is the version of Lawine her brothers and mother wanted her to be, as the version of herself she wanted to be with her brothers.
Methode (the girl who went after fern’s replica) is a beast in disguise, and gets very little screentime and no recognition at all. She is extremely powerful compared to the other test takers and has not once lost her composure throughout all the exams or taken a single L. Even after frieren takes down the spiegel and the replicas disappear, you can see in a very brief shot that Methode was holding her ground against fern’s replica and had given her a very good fight. I just thought to point this out because nobody ever gives methode her flowers despite how goated she is 😂
Methode is AMAZING. All these smooth-brains out here are falling all over themselves for Ubel (who is a fascinating character but a terrifying person) and totally sleeping on my Mage Waifu queen.
13:00 Serie's concern was more about that she refuses to teach anyone who lacks talent (hence when she does eventually agree a thousand years later to accept Flamme's request to teach humanity magic via forming the Continental Magic Association, she makes it so only the best of the best can work directly under her). Humans killing elves wasn't really a concern of hers, just more a note on human potential.
I think you still misunderstood Serie. She´s not concerned about being killed by a human mage, she´s way above that. She just doesn´t want magic to become a mass thing, where everyone and their mother can do it. She wants it to stay something absolutely special, where only the best of the best are able to learn and handle it. She also hasn´t a problem teaching it to humans, like she already did with little Flamme.
Fun fact: that exchange as Übel is walking out of Sense's office about Sense's hair being hard to maintain, so she should cut it? In the manga, that's the end-of-chapter stand-alone gag panel. And in the anime, they not only integrated it into the flow of conversation in the flashback, they turned it into Übel's badass finishing line for the fight. Truly genius-level adaptation.
23:32 so the last time we heard about some kind of magic that mages couldn't detect the mana from was the time Sein was in the party, and they were fighting against a monster that used a curse. It was established that curses are magic too complex for mages to understand, which is why they couldn't detect the mana from them. This implies the possibility that Frieren's clone is using a curse in this moment, which would mean frieren knows curses.
oh i always thought this was a manifestation of pure will. Frieren's will/composure/mindset and whatnot, are so strong that she can visualize spells that donot even behave like spells or something like that.
Ubel isn't crazy or anything, just overtly rational. Despite logically understanding that the magic and mages shes attacking are stronger than her, pragmatically, she understands that cloth can easily be cut, that hair is meant to be cut and maintained. Those rational concepts of everyday life allow her to irrationally conceptualize herself as beyond the magica which are grander than her own capabilities. The girlies are CUTE MONSTERS in this show, especially: Frieren; Fern; Sense & Übel. Spiegel gave us more than a taste of how powerful Frieren is, when she's not holding back. 🔥animation!!
I like how complex magic is. A powerful mage can be killed by one much weaker if they have the right type of magic, but the weaker might struggle against most other mages. You can also have mages who work best as partners, and/or need conditions like rainfall to become epic threats. Frieren is nearly the best mage, but she struggles at something an apprentice has mastered. And Denken just doesn't give up, and will sock your jaw if he can't win through magic. I've been thinking about how you would do this as a tabletop rpg. Playbalance would be a nightmare.
That final attack from Clone Frieren is terrifying. It's been established that normal magic is the translation of thought. But this attack was PURE thought, without going through mana. So it's instant, undetectable, and irresistible. As Fern said "the height of magic". Frieren said she hasn't used it in 80 years, which means that's probably the attack that she used to kill the Demon King. Fern was lucky to survive.
This isn't exactly true. The others get to see the rubble as they walk through the remains of the room after the fight. And at least a few of them are sharp enough to figure out what kind of magic was used based on that.
Whatever that attack was that clone Frieren used is probably 1 of the reasons Frieren didn't want the group of people with her and Fern. I don't doubt that's what she was afraid of killing multiple people
This one isn't in the playlist atm. "She actually grew on me." is everyone's reaction to Ubel I think. She's pitched as a bloodthirsty murderer and turns out to be an empathetic...murderer.
When Lawine gets impaled by Sense's replica it's like I can feel it in my own heart, but - hear me out - I think that moment humbles her just enough to break down the foolish pride that stops her from engaging honestly with her feelings for Kanne. That stab wound became the opening through which she could accept her adorable redheaded character foil into her heart. 😂

So, there were multiple chests there and ALL of them were mimics, and ALL of them were dead... meaning Frieren went and "Opened" all of them and subsequently got half eaten as well. That's also why Fern is just standing there staring at her. lol
I love how they cast spell in this series. No unnecessary long chanting etc. Just one word, and tht word have meaning. After tht, straight to action. No bluffing like other isekai type magic. Also in this series, they have a system where most games does nowadays which is some magic is weak to this type and some are stronger against this type of magic.
AS USUAL this was a really enjoyable reaction to watch. I try to avoid making content suggestions but in this case I feel that it's warranted. I think you'd enjoy it!
Serie doesnt really care if humans learn magic, Flamme asked her to teach magic to humanity and she refuses to do so to anyone who lacks talent, however she is now teaching humanity despite refusing to do so at first, because she is a tsundere
While Fern is very skilled and strong especially for her age, she is not the strongest human mage. Methode is still a stronger mage than Fern, there are still quite a few human mages stronger than her. Methode is honestly a beast in disguise. Fern will obviously become stronger than her and will probably get close to Flamme’s level, but it will take time. Fern has talent and the highest potential and Frerien as her master, but she’s still very young so she still has time to grow.
I think you misinterpreted Serie a little. Series agrees with the change, not only that, she already predicted that humanity is going to take the stage in the future, she already knows it and accepts it. She grew up in a time when humans had not yet formed what is called "civilization" and she is particularly passionate about everything that has to do with war and combat. A time of peace is what she least wants, but she will never do anything to prevent it because she knows it is the right thing to do. She is angry with Flamme's last will, not because all of humanity will be able to use magic, she doesn't care if anyone else learns magic, but to her magic is special, and she personally won't train anyone she doesn't approve of herself. , Flamme's will basically told her that she would have to train anyone the Emperor approved, that is, train a bunch of talentless people. Serie speaks very badly about her students, but you don't have to get carried away by her words, look how she smiles when she remembers little Flamme, she loved her almost to the point of considering her her daughter, her harsh words are a way of distancing herself of others, to avoid the pain of losing a loved one. If we compare Frieren to Serie it's kind of funny, Frieren is a peaceful and friendly mage, but she has avoided forming relationships or participating in the world in any way for a thousand years besides defeating the demon king, on the other hand, Serie is seen as someone unfriendly and elitist, but she is the only one who has made an effort to be a positive force in the world by creating an organization and taking several students under her wing. The friendly and peaceful elf who has never tried to form relationships or have students until now VS The unfriendly and warmongering elf who despite everything continues to form relationships and take students. Sorry, a lot of text I know.
They several times say that in "Frieren", magic is about visualization. If you can image it, you can make it happen. If you can't, it won't. Hence what happens between Ubel & Sense's clone, etc. And in the first test when Lawine went up against Richter.
