When they did this concert in 1979 - all my immediate family was still alive. By the time the band members had all passed away, three of my brothers and only sister had died. Live life now - don't wait for tomorrow or for things to "get better". Live now. Be free.
Molly Hatchet,, one of the best if not the best southern rock band to ever come long,,.I listened to them all the time practically every day,in my car,at home, nothing but precise playing and never sounded bad at all to me,,God bless them all,, miss them to this day.
That's the great thing about being a musician..if you record any type of music, you live forever in a roundabout way. Those albums, songs and recorded live shows are there for eternity

This is almost HARD TO WATCH. The band is AWESOME. As I watch this I look at the stage and imagine it with the equipment MINUS the players. And I think --- EVERY - SINGLE -- ONE of them. Are gone. Dead. As is the case with so many Musicians that are dropping. My youth is slipping away little by little. All that will be left is just going to be memories and Rap Crap BULL-SHIT POP "music". I am so GLAD I was in my teens all of the 70's. In my 20's for ALL of the 80's. I saw so many bands that ACTUALLY PLAYED their instruments and vocalists ACTUALLY SANG. NO AUTO TUNE. And --- YES --- I am a musician. I play MAINLY Bass Guitar. I ROCK.
At 61 I've seen most of the legendary bands and outlived a lot of them. It is kinda sad seeing the rock and roll stars of my youth dying off, but we all go. Enjoy the memories. I saw Hatchet in a high school gymnasium in the mountains of Kentucky, had Blackfoot open. Thankfully there's a lot of young guns working hard to keep rock and roll alive, but you won't hear them on the radio. Bunches of good bands still killing it down in the south. By then I'd lost some good friends along the way and I thought I knew what he meant...21 years later I realize I had no idea how he felt. At 61, now I'm beginning to understand. IT seems that in 2019 and 2020 not a week goes by without getting sad news. It is the sad part about surviving. But like he said then and still does today, surviving beats the alternative.
It sucks I saw them 4 different times. Twice with the Outlaws and Stranger band. Those were easily my favorite shows! Long long time ago but never forgotten! Danny Joe will always be in the best category of Southern rock!
The Nuremburg Airfest 79. The Who, Cheap Trick, The Scorpions, MOLLY HATCHET, AC/DC, Nils Lofgren. I was pretty wasted that day. I do remember Molly Hatchet kicked ass.
I can relate...Saw them open for the Outlaws in Madison that October...A 2 hour road trip from Platteville to Madison and lots of consumption...Wish I hadn't been in such a haze. lol..I remember MH being totally badass...they all looked like they'd rather beat the shit out of the crowd then play for them..
Wow, didn't know these guys had such a sad story. I knew I liked em in H.S.(was a Freshman in '79). I was trying to quit booze and went to "The Channel" in Boston alone just to kill a night. Gonna estimate 88-89. "Who's playing tonight?."Molly Hatchet ". I said "No Shit, cool." ABSOLUTELY BLEW EVERYONE IN THAT JOINT INTO THEIR BOOGIE SHOES. TOTALLY PISSA (pardon my Boston). But this was just when Rock and Roll was taking the wrong turn at Depressoville. "Industrial Rock", Indie Rock, Grunge was ready to ice that horrible cake o'doom. These guys I think caught EVERYONE off guard (in a great way). One of the best live shows of the thousands I've seen. Sad stuff about personnel but at least they left an AWESOME legacy Fact!
Steve may be my favorite guitarist in the band. He plays with a lot of fire...like Allen Collins did. Great to see them playing with Marshalls behind them, too.
One of the best southern bands too walk the earth 🌎, along with allmen brothers, Blackfoot, Black oak Arkansas, lynyrd skynyrd and the Marshall tucker band . Just too name a few...

HA! Duane and Dave were the talented ones. Producer Tom Werman said, Duane was the most talented out of the 3 and he was one of the most talented guitarists he ever worked with. He also, said, Holland was an ok guitarist.

I personally kinda agree with Werman's assessment in that Duane is my personal favorite of the three. However, in his case, I suspect that may be due to his personal preference as a producer, because Duane struck me as the most disciplined player of the three. His solos struck me as very structured and thought out, whereas the other two struck me as very good improvisers but maybe a bit lacking in restraint or finesse. Producers can definitely find the more disciplined players easier to work with in the studio, and Werman somehow strikes me as the type of producer who would prefer this.
I saw the band with The Outlaws in the late '70s. It was electric guitar heaven. Southern rockers don't seem to live very long and I miss the honesty of the music.
Best footage I've ever seen. Sounds so good. I had a ticket in "78" but I was hospitalized 2 days before the concert. I never recovered(from missing the concert). I saw them years later but it was not even close to this killer jamm'n show. I knew every word of every cut from their first album.

As luck would have it, I had the unbelievable honor of opening up for the original Molly hatchet back in the early 90's. Probably the single biggest highlight of my life! Flirting with disaster is my all time favorite song hands down! Rest in peace, you were all a legend!!

I saw them live in Chicago, back in 1979. Molly Hatchet/UFO. Damn that was a hot show, I remember the Molly Hatchet guitar players tossing their guitars way up in the air, over and over, after every song. That was awesome. Danny Joe Brown was in his prime!

I saw Molly the first time with UFO, 1979. Chicago Amphitheatre. I heard their first hit on the radio but damn they were smoking hot live! They have 3 lead guitar players, super long hair, they were really good and I was a fan after that.
I saw them open for Bob Seger in late 1978 and became a fan then. I saw them at a lot of events like rib cook offs where they deserved much better. Of we’ll the lineup changed many times Ofer the years and Danny Joe Browne sadly passed away several years ago.
I seen the original lineup in early 1990 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie NY with my wife and my cousin who passed away 2 1/2 years ago. After the show,we hung out with them at the bar for a few hours and drank everything from beer to champagne and Jack Daniels. What a great bunch of guys and talented musicians,all in Heaven with my cousin Augie rockin and a rollin RIP GENTS!!

"Original" Bass Guitarist, Banner Thomas Left in 1982 Replaced By Riff West, "Original" band Co-Founder & Lead Guitarist, Steve Holland Left in 1984 Replaced By Keyboardist, John Galvin & "Original" Band Co-Founder & Lead Guitarist, Dave Hlubek Left in 1987, Replaced By Bobby Ingram.
When the first album came out, I was 12 years old, played sick for 3 days to stay out of school so I could play the record non stop full blast. Got to see them not long after, and that was it for me!!!
These guys use to play in a bar in my hometown. Great bunch of guys who were all excellent musicians. This is a great video that really shows how good these guys were . RIP

Great performance of Danny Joe brown and the band at their peak and suprisingly good sound quality...I think I saw this as a teenager...Chorus was a great tv show as well as the German tv Rockpalast shows. French tv introduced me to this Southern Rock sound with a special program that featured recorded performances by the Allman bros, Blackfoot and Skynyrd. I wish someone would post this program, especially since the Skynyrd footage figured the original line up with Ed King and Bob Burns...It's possible they used the German Rockpalast 74 footage, but I clearly remember the program stated it was recorded in the Olympia in Paris which they played on their1974 tour. R.I.P. Steve Holland and all the rest of the band and all of the original southern rockers that have left us....this music is timeless and will live on long after the last of them is gone...
They were personal friends of mine. All of them my big brothers. Was not and never was a groupie, please don't think that. I'll explain later. Tell you a little secret. Why Bruce played as well as he did. Something very few people knew about. Banner actually taught Bruce how to play the drums like he did. Believe it or not. He played yes , but Banner taught him how to the way they wanted him to play for their music. There wasn't a instrument Banner couldn't play and was good at them all. Yet another thing people didn't know. I actually know this because I knew the guys before Bruce joined the band. When I met them , Big Bob was actually their drummer then , who later became their sound man . Which he actually wanted to do instead. Who later also became the sound man for Eddie Van Halen. Something else people don't know about . He was the best in the business. Danny wasn't even a member then , that came a little time later . Which was their first time they played in a bar here in Jacksonville . When I met them , I was so innocent, Dave and the rest of them became very protective of me , and took me under their protection and considered me their little sister. That's your later information lol . Hope you enjoy this bit of knowledge most people aren't aware of . I miss them dearly. They were all really great guys in person. Oh and did you know most their security were in actually the Outlaws ? Yes. Due to Big Bob having actually ridden with them. His biker name was Little Bob due to someone else already having the name Big Bob lol and the man stood 6"4 and weighted 300 pounds And had a giant of a heart as he was. Just don't tick him off lol , my big brother body guard. Love them all. Hope you enjoyed this tib- bit of information. Now you have some info about them most people don't. And there's far more too people don't know about them. They know their music but not the men themselves. It's a shame really. Much respect.

I saw them for the first time in New Years Day 1979 in Rupp Arena in Lexington,Ky. They were the opening act and just blew the crowd away after their first song everyone in the Arena were on their feet
The French audience is getting Southern rock and seem to enjoy them. I once banged on their bus to get them to notice how excited they got us croud members. They knew!!
Saw them with Blackfoot 82ish in greenwood South Carolina great concert I remember it was really loud probably one reason I don’t hear so well lol Hatchet and skynyrd were the best ever
Saw them at the Saddlerack in San Jose close to this show in a very small venue. Danny was great. Even got to meet him and the band after the show. Saw a lot of great shows back in the good old days. These guys kicked fucking ass.
I was fortunate to see them in 1995. Ive been a fan since I was a kid and it's sad to hear about Steve. they were a great band and though not as big as Skynard they made great Southern Rock good band .
I saw these guys open for AC DC in Houston. At the old Music Hall in 1979. A venue for about 3-4000 people with excellent accoustics since it’s original purpose was for theatre and classical type music. Different story but also saw a lady giving birth there on the steps exiting a Grand Funk Railroad show.
2022 and still to this day Molly Hatchet is still on my Playlist, from my drive home from work on Friday to my many long drives from New Mexico to L.A., Phoenix, Las Vegas, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Can never go wrong putting any Hatchet Playlist. Gone from cassette to CD's to now having it on phone, make those long trips go by quicker. I remember being a roadie for a band from Santa Monica, CA named Bastille (and no, not that Bastille) who were a power trio who played blues rock and classic 60's rock (they did a killer cover of The Doors Backdoor Man) and we got booked to open for Hatchet around 86 or 87 at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Meeting all of the guys in the band back stage and during intermission. Sadly I only got to see them play 2 songs Flirting ' and Jukin' City. The rest of the gig i was outside the venue watching over our bands gear. Great band and I must agree that they were the greatest Southern rock band if all-time....Rock on!!!

I saw them live in Chicago, back in 1979. Molly Hatchet/UFO. Damn that was a hot show, I remember the Molly Hatchet guitar players tossing their guitars way up in the air, over and over, after every song. That was awesome. Danny Joe Brown was in his prime!

Great solid second album after busting out from nowhere on the first one.These boys delivered 5 alltime classic hits from where I was standing.a top notch guitar band for their time(no one had a clue what EVH was doing).And that voice...many records were worn out on the radio waves I can tell you...Great band from Jacksonville FLA!!! I saw Molly the first time with UFO, 1979. Chicago Amphitheatre. I heard their first hit on the radio but damn they were smoking hot live! They have 3 lead guitar players, super long hair, they were really good and I was a fan after that.
I saw them open for Bob Seger in late 1978 and became a fan then. I saw them at a lot of events like rib cook offs where they deserved much better. Of we’ll the lineup changed many times Ofer the years and Danny Joe Browne sadly passed away several years ago.
I seen the original lineup in early 1990 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie NY with my wife and my cousin who passed away 2 1/2 years ago. After the show,we hung out with them at the bar for a few hours and drank everything from beer to champagne and Jack Daniels. What a great bunch of guys and talented musicians,all in Heaven with my cousin Augie rockin and a rollin RIP GENTS!!

When the first album came out, I was 12 years old, played sick for 3 days to stay out of school so I could play the record non stop full blast. Got to see them not long after, and that was it for me!!!
So sad they're all dead and gone. But for sure they left us so much emotion and joy that will never be forgotten

My band Dark Star opened for the Hatchet in 1979 at the Crazy Horse saloon in Biloxi/Gulfport. Outstanding shows by both bands.

Great performance of Danny Joe brown and the band at their peak and suprisingly good sound quality...I think I saw this as a teenager...Chorus was a great tv show as well as the German tv Rockpalast shows. French tv introduced me to this Southern Rock sound with a special program that featured recorded performances by the Allman bros, Blackfoot and Skynyrd. I wish someone would post this program, especially since the Skynyrd footage figured the original line up with Ed King and Bob Burns...It's possible they used the German Rockpalast 74 footage, but I clearly remember the program stated it was recorded in the Olympia in Paris which they played on their1974 tour.
R.I.P. Steve Holland and all the rest of the band and all of the original southern rockers that have left us....this music is timeless and will live on long after the last of them is gone...

They were personal friends of mine. All of them my big brothers. Was not and never was a groupie, please don't think that. I'll explain later. Tell you a little secret. Why Bruce played as well as he did. Something very few people knew about. Banner actually taught Bruce how to play the drums like he did. Believe it or not. He played yes , but Banner taught him how to the way they wanted him to play for their music. There wasn't a instrument Banner couldn't play and was good at them all. Yet another thing people didn't know. I actually know this because I knew the guys before Bruce joined the band. When I met them , Big Bob was actually their drummer then , who later became their sound man . Which he actually wanted to do instead. Who later also became the sound man for Eddie Van Halen. Something else people don't know about . He was the best in the business. Danny wasn't even a member then , that came a little time later . Which was their first time they played in a bar here in Jacksonville . When I met them , I was so innocent, Dave and the rest of them became very protective of me , and took me under their protection and considered me their little sister. That's your later information lol . Hope you enjoy this bit of knowledge most people aren't aware of . I miss them dearly. They were all really great guys in person. Oh and did you know most their security were in actually the Outlaws ? Yes. Due to Big Bob having actually ridden with them. His biker name was Little Bob due to someone else already having the name Big Bob lol and the man stood 6"4 and weighted 300 pounds And had a giant of a heart as he was. Just don't tick him off lol , my big brother body guard. Love them all. Hope you enjoyed this tib- bit of information. Now you have some info about them most people don't. And there's far more too people don't know about them. They know their music but not the men themselves. It's a shame really. Much respect.
Very cool! I met DJB and Duane on their tour bus in Columbus GA around 1990. Signed my Flirtin album (still have it). They were big dudes! Nice guys.

I was there when they wrote most of the songs. That was something to see them write them . They worked well together. The band isn't the same without them nor nearly as good. I saw them for the first time in New Years Day 1979 in Rupp Arena in Lexington,Ky. They were the opening act and just blew the crowd away after their first song everyone in the Arena were on their feet

Saw them with Blackfoot 82ish in greenwood South Carolina great concert I remember it was really loud probably one reason I don’t hear so well lol Hatchet and skynyrd were the best ever
Saw them at the Saddlerack in San Jose close to this show in a very small venue. Danny was great. Even got to meet him and the band after the show. Saw a lot of great shows back in the good old days. These guys kicked fucking ass.
I was fortunate to see them in 1995. Ive been a fan since I was a kid and it's sad to hear about Steve. they were a great band and though not as big as Skynard they made great Southern Rock good band .
Hatchet Molly got the last of em. They play exclusively for the Gods, now. Respect
I played with Bruce Crump once when he was with the band sweet justice in Richmond Va. A couple years before he passed away.
I saw these guys open for AC DC in Houston. At the old Music Hall in 1979. A venue for about 3-4000 people with excellent accoustics since it’s original purpose was for theatre and classical type music. Different story but also saw a lady giving birth there on the steps exiting a Grand Funk Railroad show.

2022 and still to this day Molly Hatchet is still on my Playlist, from my drive home from work on Friday to my many long drives from New Mexico to L.A., Phoenix, Las Vegas, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Can never go wrong putting any Hatchet Playlist. Gone from cassette to CD's to now having it on phone, make those long trips go by quicker.
I remember being a roadie for a band from Santa Monica, CA named Bastille (and no, not that Bastille) who were a power trio who played blues rock and classic 60's rock (they did a killer cover of The Doors Backdoor Man) and we got booked to open for Hatchet around 86 or 87 at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Meeting all of the guys in the band back stage and during intermission. Sadly I only got to see them play 2 songs Flirting ' and Jukin' City. The rest of the gig i was outside the venue watching over our bands gear. Great band and I must agree that they were the greatest Southern rock band if all-time....Rock on!!!
