- The "ORIGINAL" MOLLY HATCHET Band - FULL CONCERT - CAPITOL THEATRE ... Passaic, NJ 11/10/78 ... Featuring: Lead Singer, DANNY JOE BROWN; Lead Guitarist, DAVE HLUBEK; Lead Guitarist, DUANE ROLAND; Lead Guitarist, STEVE HOLLAND; Bass Guitarist, BANNER THOMAS & Drummer, BRUCE CRUMP. The Band Performs Their Songs ... 1) Bounty Hunter; 2) Gator Country; 3) The Big Apple; 4) Dreams I'll Never See; 5) Trust Your Old Friend; 6) The Harp Jam
** So, Apparently There Has Been Some Confusion About The Song "LONG TALL SALLY" Missing From My Post. Just To Straighten Some People Out, The Song That Is Played In The LAST Spot In This Show Is Actually Called "THE HARP JAM" NOT "LONG TALL SALLY" They NEVER Played LONG TALL SALLY At This Show!! I Don't Understand Why The Confusion, But If You Listen To "THE HARP JAM" Recorded On Any LIVE MOLLY HATCHET Album It's On, You Will See This Song Is "THE HARP JAM" A 12:30+ Minute Jam That Features Leads From The Guys And An Introduction Of The Band From DANNY JOE BROWN ... The Band Did Record A Song Called "LONG TALL SALLY", Which Was A LITTLE RICHARD Cover Tune, On The 1981 TAKE NO PRISONERS Album With JIMMY FARRAR On Vocals. DANNY NEVER SANG "LONG TALL SALLY" ... SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION!!
Thank the lord that I lived during this magical musical period.

Amazing how....they played...you heard exactly what they played...adjustments. backing tracks...players behind the curtain....not even a concept. God bless the 1970's and God Bless Molly Hatchet.
I'm just finding this and the later one in LA maybe, and it's a TOTAL TOP OF MY LIST SONG since I was ten years old and I was loving the fact that they sound like the Radio!! I just think it's the right way for me!
I like it when we're slim not fat like now.
All those Gibsons 💜💜💜💜 Outstanding!
Yes sir they do look good 💯😊
Molly Hatchet, Black Oak Arkansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels band...can't beat this great kind of music!

Amen and Amen
I feel ya ❤
I’m from the 80s but I’ll go with ya
Let’s make it 77 so we can catch Smokey and the Bandit
Times change.... remember your parents whining about all us kids in the 70's and 80's? Same shit
This band deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame
For sure.
Absofuckinlutely! I burned through 3 cassette tapes of Flirtin' with Disaster. Rewinding and rewinding to hear the song one more time.
UFO Nazareth Uncle Ted and Uriah Heap are on my list. My list was deep purple and yes but they are in. When I ask people in real life who should be in getting 50% Iron Maiden from the rockers-- some push back on Nazareth and not enough people have heard of Uriah Heap but SHOULD be in..
Hardly. The Rock and roll Hall of Fame is a joke anyways
@@mikemiller6628 They are in mine.
Molly Hatchet should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
You mean the shock and joke hall of fame? Why would ANY Band worth their salt, like Molly Hatchet, wanna be in a "Hall" like that? A bunch of them ain't nothin' but a bunch of people that never even belonged there in the first place!
If there was a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, then I'd say yes, put 'em in! Otherwise, I don't want to see one of the quality bands that I did some of my growin' up on, placed in some "Hall" with some of the biggest fakes that I've ever seen in my life! Molly Hatchet don't deserve that kind of bad treatment!
Sir, What Molly Hatchet deserves is a shot at a beer commercial hall of Fame. Saw them front blue oyster cult back in the day, and Triumph. Saw them slide down back into the clubs. I gigged drums for years and was in a band that fronted them in 1995. Crump and Roland were great guys. Hlubek was a blow asshole. Didn't see them as anything but burnouts.
Should mention. Our sound guy handed a tape of our stuff to this Danny brown guy back stage. Asked him to give it a listen. Brown spat on it and there it against the wall. I have the fondest memories of the assholes called Molly Hatchet. Thank God that life is behind me.
@@ronaldshank7589 All of that complaining you just did is the exact reason people are saying bands like Molly Hatchet "should" be in the Hall of Fame. There's a ton of bands we can all agree "should" be in the HOF and many more we can agree "shouldn't" be in there.
@@JSchaffer214 I'm the kind of MAN that says what he wants to say. Got a problem with it?

They will NOt be inducted. Just like Ted! Rock and roll hall of fame is so woke and, "politically correct ". Just enjoy it! Fuck the RRHOF!
Still Loving it in 24
2025 rocking it just like we used too!
I saw Molly Hatchet at the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville FL right when this album was released. It was a triple bill. They opened followed by Cheap Trick who was touring to support their album Heaven Tonight and the headliner was AC/DC on their Powerage tour. Ohhh to be young again LOL! I remember it like it was yesterday.
Wow what a line up!!! Band and tour.
Oh f**k... Talk about a triple bill !!
Tickets were probably 15 bucks lol! Man I miss the 70s and 80s!
That sounds like a killer triple band jam from back in the day - right in Molly's backyard no less. Those magical days of multiple band concerts for under ten bucks a ticket are long gone but far from forgotten - I attended a bunch in the mid - late 70s myself. Those were some fun memories for sure!
Wow, I’m right there with you

I remember a 50 kegger called battle of the bands out in Glendale Arizona next to the PowerPlant! 👍
Such amazing times! I really really miss those days😢
No video screen, No in-ear monitors, corded mics, an SM57 in each drum, big amps on stage.. ah, those were the days, man.
I’m 62 years old. I’m a drummer and singer. Molly Hatchet was the most underrated Southern Rock band. Their music is pure gold. I love this stuff. Man do I miss the good Rock n Roll!
Got more than one request from the management to "turn it down".....:)
This show here is amazing.2 of the first albums I listened were MTB "Searchin For A Rainbow" and ABB "Live at Filmore East". Skynyrd wasd next-this right here was as good as any southern band back then.
me too
I don't think them being underrated was a matter of bad opinions. It's more a matter of Danny Joe Brown not being around long enough. It was his voice that separated the multi-guitar band from the Skynyrds and Outlaws. JMHO
63 here .roll call
Brings a tear to my eye. I grew up with these guys in Florida and saw 'em play many times. The triple guitar attack by Roland, Hlubek and Holland was the best in rock and roll and has never been surpassed. Danny was a 6'4" lumberjack of a guy and a real teddybear in person. Seeing him decline under the hammer of diabetes and other ailments was heartbreaking. Drummer Bruce Crump lived for many years in VA and worked as a drum teacher; he passed away in 2015. Hatchet toured for years after, with Hlubek as the only original member. They were not even a shadow of what they once were. Hlubek passed in 2017. Steve Holland passed in 2020; he was the last of the original lineup.
Thank you for whomever uploaded this jewel of a video concert. This one has decent enough sound quality.

I saw these guys 4 times, what a gift. Don't compare them to Skynyrd, let them both stand alone on their glorious merits!

I saw them open up for Charlie Daniels at Southern Illinois University in the summer of 79. By far the rowdiest concert Ive ever been in. We were blessed to have been young in the 70’s when the best music came out. It made us who we are today. You need to look at this period as simply a moment in time of growing up then. We were very lucky indeed, this will never happen again!
Amen!👊
Awesome.. we didn't know how good we had it back then...
We do now and then some.

It's hard to imagine that everyone of these rockers have now passed, I was lucky to have seen them with this original line up !!
So did I in Norfolk va.awesome show Blackfoot outlaws n the greatest MOLLY HATCHET
My very first concert 1980
@@giovannizingone443 I loved the "Main Events" at Frank D. Lawrence Stadium in P-town. "Rockin' in the Woods" at Surry Harley Track, & seemed like they were at the Boathouse monthly, for a while there. I didn't realize Steve had also passed away. He supposedly went to HS here i VA Beach, but he was the only original who had nothing of his personal life on the internet, until I looked him up just now, and read of his unfortunate illness. This only makes my 60th b-day today, just a dit harder to deal with. That's why I'm all for survivors of great groups burying their personal beefs to perform together for their fans, before it's too late. Most of their quarrels are childish. Only rarely do former mates have legitimate conflicts, worthy of denying their fans reunion performances.
lucky enough to say that drummer right there the original, is my dad. passed away 2015
@Porter Makai You're right, No one cares!
There will never be bands like this again how sad is that people
Absolutely agree with you
They are out there, they just don't get the deserved attention, and never really get heard as a result. Sadly, our youth is completely uninterested in actual music.
Life goes on everything Changes.
So many people we wish we didn't have to lose .It's enough to make you wanna sing the blues .
That is VERY SAD 😟
They live on in their music 😁👍
One of things that I find pretty amazing about most of the southern rock and roll bands is that they were always a bunch of local guys who were friends and created such awesome music. Most of the bands from the early 80`s and such were created by record labels. The southern guys were a small group of like minded musicians who loved the same style of music and that`s what`s made them so cohesive. Just my opinion.
I would say that pretty accurately sums it all up.
Except for Little Feat. They were a bunch of session musicians from LA,
which they became friends later.
Well that's a damn fine opinion and I agree 100%
Reminds me of high school!!! I still listen to this stuff today 👍 I think everybody needs a southern rock playlist 👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Molly hatchet is so damn underrated! Danny Joe Brown was such a great front man. Saw them with the outlaws at Marin civic 1978
I also saw them with the Outlaws and the warm up band was a new singer called “John Cougar”
Saw them with the outlaws on New Year’s Eve Lakeland Civic Center 1980 Johnnie Van Zant opening tickets 8 dollars 50 cents
I'm listening to this concert, and I'm not hearing any mistakes, either in the Drumming, the Bass Guitar, the Three Guitarists, or even the Lead Singer! This is what I call a picture-perfect concert!
Bass Guitarist:Banner Thomas.
Guitarists:Duane Roland, Steve Holland, and Dave Hlubek.
Drummer:Bruce Crump.
Lead Vocalist: Danny Joe Brown.
Outlaws were just SO great.
Bet that was an awesome show!!
I remember meeting Dave Hlubek in '78 at a guitar store in Seattle. He was hanging behind the counter and was checking out a cheap guitar my friend bought. We were 14 at the time. He proceeded to pop all the bubble wrap the guitar came in joking about he couldn't stop. He lectured us to stay in school, get an education and stay clean. He said music was the only thing that saved him and he was lucky.
44 years later I still remember that meeting and he was absolutely right. Very cool dude.
Read my newest posted reply. You are dead on. I had the same experience with Danny Joe Brown. Real as people can be.
I met him (Dave) before a show in pennsylvania. He cane out to the fans and started signing autographs. Cool dude.

In my younger years when music was great and you could turn on your local FM rock stations(mine were 93.3 WMMR and 94.1 WYSP...Philadelphia area)you were guaranteed to hear something great.

Outlaws great band as well.!
In the years before he passed, Banner Thomas became a dear, dear friend. He played with a local bar band in his later years, despite his bona fide rock star status, he was as humble as the day is long. I miss him...
That would be BIG ENGINE! Met him then and just saw BIG ENGINE again a week ago in Lake Park, GA.
Danny Joe Brown had one of the most instantly recognizable voices in rock music. And those talented musicians he had backing him up. What a shame that they're all gone...
Yep. Not only are they all gone but nearly all of their original replacements are gone as well. This band has such a tragic story. 😢
This world will never experience a band like Molly Hatchet ever again.
My first concert was Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and Rainbow back in 1979 for a whopping $7.50. I recently took my son to his first concert to just see Styx, and it was only about $800.00 including T-shirts and a couple of drinks. Gheeze!!!
I went to school in Boone, NC....dry county, so we had to thumb to Blowing Rock, 7 miles away to get drinkie.
one fine spring afternoon my roommate and I set out to enjoy the warm sun, drink a few buckets, then buy some more to take back.
we got faced, bought our refreshments, went to the highway and stuck out our thumbs.
10 minutes later 2 cars pulled over. I got in one, my roomie got in the other.
turned out to be Molly's road crew. they invited us to go up to Beech Mtn. where they were partying.
I don't remember anything after that
Love that 3-guitar lineup. One guy drops out to take a solo, and there's still a thick wall of rhythm guitars! And when all 3 of them harmonize a riff, that's the icing on the cake! A damn shame they're all gone now. What a tight band they were!
As far as I'm concerned, they're one of Southern Metal's Super-Groups!

Shockingly good. Unworldly. The songwriting, singing and musicianship are from another era...never to be repeated.
Exactly the same question I was just going to ask. Still listening strong here in the state of Maine-2024 20:21. They deserve it and more.
I remember hearing Dreams I’ll never see on the radio while smokin the tires on my 70 Roadrunner. Had to buy the newly discovered cassette tape. Those were the best days with the best tunes.
I saw them 3 times in Fort Pierce Florida, me and all my buddies would go see them perform, best times of my life, sure brings back many fond memories, I miss those times!
Gone with the wind
“ Get me some elbow room” Perfect line. I love it
The band with some of the best album covers in history...
Such a great band. I was lucky enough to see them live twice in the 70's
saw theses guys in 81 at jfk in philly with the outlaws, marshall tucker,38 special at a concert called the round,-up.100,000 plus having a blast.they all came on stage and did will the circle be unbroken for the encore
I was 13 ... the camera took me everywhere. Molly Hatchet at day on the green #3. Was blown away by molly hstchet... i own the greatest picturs of david hlebrek known to man kind. The action shots are better than the ones i have of eddie van halen.
We saw Molly Hatchet at The Zoo Amphitheater in Oklahoma City, 1984. Pat Travers opened. 0:02
Thank God for this vid!
And surprisingly good audio for 78. Ha, and just after I type that the lead solo gets buried in the mix. Still great.
His voice fit their music like a hand in glove.
Concerts like these is turning out to be the only use for you tube.
Amen 🎉🎉🎉
I had the pleasure of playing with Dave Lubeck from April 2014 to May 2015.
On his 63rd birthday, I had the honour of playing with Bruce Crump, Banner Thomas and Dave on the same stage.
As a 15-year-old guitarist in 1979, I used to tune my guitar to flirting with disaster the low E string.
I am blessed. To have played with the best. West side is the best side.
Being from Florida I had the opportunity to meet & party with Danny Joe Brown and most of the band at a private party in Hollywood Florida. I'll leave it at this, I've never seen so much party goods in my whole life! And the amount consumed was astronomical
The harder you party the younger you die. As much as I miss these men, I'm glad those amounts of party goods were not around me. I do like to party, but just a lil. See your still here too. I'm a Gator Country Boy myself.
God blessed em ;-) 😂
My older brothers played the shit outta these guys. I loved them. Good memories. How lucky was I.Still love there music.
Hard to believe that all of these guys have passed away. I remember first hearing them 'long about 1979, when they came out with "Flirtin' with Disaster". What a song! Also: Anybody remember a song called "The Creeper"? That's Southern Metal at it's heaviest right there, folks!
Southern Rock in 70s and 80s was awesome!
Need bands today to start making music again.
No rap crap.
Real guitars, pianos, etc.
I was listening to these guys when I was in the Marines (1980-84). Got hooked on Pat Travers, Thin Lizzy, etc. Long live Rock 💪
Steve got totally reamed by the sound guy in Dreams. Duane's solo comes through loud and clear but the second solo is completely lost in the mix. What a jip I love that second solo.
Yeah Molly Hacket was a great southern rock band of the greatest decade of music. I loved playing it loud in the car rolling down the hwy.
Rythum Rock, at its best!!! 65 and still love it!! Gater country!!😊😊
I was fortunate to see them that year. My first concert. I’ll never forget
I was 21 and lived in Gator Country in 1978!! Molly Hatchett was one of the great southern bands of that time!!
Sad to say we have lost all the original Molly Hatchet members...thankfully the guys still rock on YT today!
Homedog it's hard to wrap my head around the fact that all the founding members are now gone... Their music will always bring me back to all those back woods partys in tne 80s with good neighborhood friends & family.
Their cover of The Allman Brothers "Dreams" is epic! Simply amazing.
It’s actually better than the original!
For years I didn't know it was the same song!
❤❤❤❤
Inspired in Buddy Miles version
Greatly appreciated and missed especially during the times we live in now. Great musicians who loved what they did!
Man , drove thru 7" snow to get to Charlotte to see Molly and Black Sabbath together , 40 years later still best show ever
