RIP David Crosby - saw them in concert in the early ‘70’s - Teach Your Children Well has always been a fav…still speaks to me today when I look at my grandchildren..what a legacy he has left behind ❤
My kids are 24 & 21 and they grew up listening to Classic Rock when they were little as that's all I ever played to them so they both know who David Crosby is and were sad to hear of his passing today...
I see a lot of Boomer bashing, I guess it's natural, something about Boomers having an easier time than they do. Ok, so just listen to the music that came out of this era and tell me again how we had it so easy. RIP David Crosby.
Me too in the 1977th to Paris France. So we were lucky. Today I thankful playing as their picking Folk music and mix their velvet voices. My influence in this decade❤🎶🎶🎤🎸🎸🎸💓💓💓
I got married at 16 in 1970! Husband left 2 weeks later for Basic Training and then in December, left for Viet Nam! The music during that time takes me back! Will never forget!
I truly believe there will never be another generation of music to compare with the 60/70s. Let us hope that it is being carefully preserved for those who knew and loved it
As someone who was born in the late 80s, I agree. IMO 64 -85 was the golden age of music in America. These guys obviously (Crosby Stills, Nash and Young) The Beatles, Three Dog Night, ABBA, Queen, Smash Mouth, AC/DC, Hendrix, Peter Paul and Mary, CCWR, Pink Floyd, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Elton, Eric, Michael, I mean the list goes on.
Well ... that actually is a very sad idea. Better think and believe that there will always be a generation that feeds on the ideas and ideals of the one before it and feeds upon their dreams, creating something even more beautiful to be known by.
I’m 74 & feel so lucky to have lived through such amazing times, been a rocker, a mod & a hippie. We have had the most talented singers, songwriters, musicians & poets. I know so many young people who say i wish i had been around in the 60’s. Anyway my point is, that’s a timeless song & sang with such beautiful harmonies & yes still relevant today. It’s only Rock n Roll but don’t we just love it!
Wow man, I haven't heard anyone use the word Mod since I was in my freshman year of High School! Sounds like we have pasts in common. Totally agree with your point (man)
1972. I was 10 years old. Me and my 3 siblings sang this song at my my moms and adoptive fathers wedding. My sister played the guitar… not a dry in the place. Thank you David, may you sing & fly with the angels… say hi to my and dad ♥️
I too was blessed to have grown up in the late 60's and 70's. Blessed to have had such great artists and music. I wish people would heed this song in these current turbulent times....teach your children well, people.
This song has always been so meaningful, since the first time I heard it, more than 50 years ago. It was at a big anti-war rally in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in November 1969. CSN&Y, who had just finished recording the Deja Vu album (which wouldn't be released for another 4 months, so nobody knew this song) sang for a crowd of a quarter million people, and the song was deeply touching to most of us. I learned to play and sing the song, and years later sang it many times for (and with) my children, who are now in their 30's. "Can you see you must be free to teach your children what you believe in; make a world that we can live in." Not an easy task, but we're still trying.
It must be a true compliment to artists when thousands and thousands of people can sing the lyrics to your songs back at you, after years of those songs first being sung.
@@KAH5371 I've got to guess that you're solidly stuck in the past and not interested in the work of really excellent current musicians/bands. Just gotta admit the possibility and go check them out. The last bit's trivially simple w/YT.
@Joe Jenkins Well everybody comes and goes there Joe even you. If your looking for staying power say like Plato, or Socrrates etc. then perhaps in a thousand years or so you will let us know if we got it right!
My dad used to play this as a lullaby to me and my brother. Years later I learned to play it, and do so when I'm feeling depressed. One of the best songs I've heard and maybe ever will. R.I.P. David Crosby
I am a 71 year old Mexican and in 1970 this song reached Mexico City with the other music of the 60's and 70's like the Beatles, John Denver, The Byrds, and though I didn't know the words, it touched my spirit. I heard this song recently and could understand the lyrics. It brought the tears to my eyes. Now that I am a grandfather, this song resonates deeply in my heart. Graham Nash's lyrics had the wisdom of a much older man.
Kind of the opposite happened to me. I’m a Canadian from Vancouver and back in the 90s I was in Cozumel in a restaurant when a Mariachi band came in and started playing in front of my table. It was all older guys except the singer was this little kid. Im telling ya, this band played so beautifully I couldn’t believe it, however I knew zero Spanish. I actually started tearing up and couldn’t understand why. Nothing makes me cry. I started learning Spanish and although not perfectly, enough to basically understand and speak. Now that I know so many of the Mexican standards, to this day I wonder what that song was that they played that got to me like that.
Rest In Heavenly Peace David Crosby 1-17-23 81 yrs young Wow, What Great Musician and Writer Great Songs my fave of his songs was always "Teach Your Children Well " and Turn Turn & Tambourine Man with Bob Dylan The Byrds "
Yes, it was such an amazing time to be alive. Each epoch had a different feel. It was pure and innocent during Camelot, but immediately after Kennedy was shot it was a different feel. I remember sitting in the car, listening to the radio, wondering if the night sky would turn intensely white with missiles launched from Cuba. The 70's were a time of exploration (space race, local adventures, building, and flying giant cardboard gliders, and (of course) girls). Each decade had a different feel, and kids today will never know what it was like if they didn't live through it. So sad for them. "Dad, were you in a rock band?" "It was the 60's... we were ALL in a band!" (The Zendicks, 1967).
Best version I ever experienced of this beautiful song was sung by my son and his whole 3rd grade class. He's 50 now, but I'll always remember his face and the earnestness with which he sang it! [weeping again! then and now]
the 60s and 70s was the best !!! Im glad I was part of that , I am so glad I saw these guys live and so many other great bands and musicians too! NOTHING WILL EVER COMPARE
CSN were doing jaw dropping tight harmonies before The Eagles were out of school. I love The Eagles, but these guys were the original and the real deal.
What people don't realize the 60s and 70s those musicians could play a multitude of instruments equally well they'll never be another era in music like there was in the 60s and seventies and that goes for country too
Just burst into emotional tears as the video shifted toward the end to a live performance before a MASSIVE audience who sang the chorus together....so beautiful.....such an optomistic time....We really DID think we could change the World for the better and see PEACE in our lifetimes!! Thank you for this wonderful video. If you've not seen the fabulous documentary "David Crosby, Remember My Name" you must see it. Always my favorites. I finally saw them in concert about 15 years ago. They sounded EXACTLY like the record i had worn out listening to. Still think their music is soo relevant and inspiring.
At Woodstock, it was CCN&Y. The contributions of Neil Young to this group's popularity and success must not be minimized or discounted. Neil was the completeness, the glue, who made this group great.
Exceptional Talent, Love the words of this prophetic song by Graham Nash! God Bless them for their 'Harmonic Wonders' of the songs they gave to us that will endure forever! RIP David Crosby, thanks for sharing your Musical Gifts from God.
The Words lyrics have so much meaning to them. And I honestly believe that just about every song they wrote had so much meaning to them. They wrote about the times they wrote about things that mattered. Especially when you think about four dead in Ohio. And anyone knows about that song knows about the shootings on the campus Purdue University in Ohio. I grew up there and remember well period was very sad and they depicted it perfectly.
For those of us born in the 60s/70s we’re just now experiencing having grandbabies our kids are often married. We understand the blessings now of grandchildren, but we live in a world that has changed drastically since technology has taken over. We are truly the last generation to teach this song and when I say this, I mean it and all good ways if you grew up on the word, going to church had really great grandparents which most of us kids and those days did that came with a set of morals? And once we go, our wisdom goes. We’re already losing the right free speech our countries in a state of chaos. It looks like a foreign country and don’t get me started on anyone who practices religion because that’s becoming an occult. But if you were raised right, you know what I’m talking about. Love this song share it, share it with children share it with grandchildren. Teach them well and they’ll grow up to be good.! 🙏❤️✌️
I'm seventy years old. I and my contemporaries were fortunate to have been born just at the start of rock and roll. Then for the next three decades we were blessed with the absolutely incredible and diverse talents of all the great bands and performers of that era. The golden age. Wow.

Agree ! It could have been a 'Hollies" hit. However, Graham Nash left the Hollies and took it to CSN. There is a 'live' version of The Hollies doing it in 1983 !
I have the Woodstock and Woodstock 2 albums. On the Woodstock album, I believe, they said that was the first time they ever played before a live audience.
Great music from great times. So honored to be a part of it! Lucky we have sound recorders to record all of t! The music from the 60's & 70's is all recorded! Thank GOD! This is all I listen to every day! What kind of day would it be without a Beatles song???? I couldn't name you any of todays songs or performers. Mostly garbage... like hip-hop and horrible sounding country and rock songs...
This song touches my heart even tho I was to young to notice when it first came out, I first heard it in the late 70’s. Even so it touched me then and it still touches me today. Such a awesome piece of work. I l have loved CS&N ever since I first heard them in late 70’s. Never made a bad tune. Rest easy David 🕊🙏🎸🕊🙏🎸🕊🙏🎸🕊🙏🎸🕊🙏🎸🕊🙏🎸
Best band of the 20th century IMO. My father listened to CSN&Y all the time. Now I'm his age and in listening to CSN&Y with my children growing up. It sure is a great time watching my little ones learn all about the world and grow stronger and smarter everyday.
Yes, Let us not forget the contributions of the supremely talented Neil Young! At Woodstock, it was CCN&Y. The contributions of Neil Young to this group's popularity and success must not be minimized or discounted. Neil was the completeness, the glue, who made this group great. He provided the fullness of tenor and string harmony that earmarked this song as magnificent.
There aren’t many upsides to being old, but having been in high school when this beautiful piece of music was released is one of them.
Are you any relation to Annie?
Agreed. I am 69 and this song is still prophetic it can bring a tear to an old farts eye. Fantastic.

May sound Cornet but I always felt that CSN &Y were one of original R &R bands in the 70s.
This song isn't just iconic it is truly epic!! ❤

Absolutely! No music can hold a candle to this magical stuff now.
Hope it made it back home.
Did your husband teach those VietMinh kids well with napalm?
Viet Nam war was terrible in 1970. Listening to these words still in 2022, “Teach your Children!”
Hello dear,how are you doing?

The lyrics had a great message as never before and hardly ever to this day.

Crying as I listen to this after hearing of David Crosby's passing... What a legend... What a legacy... What a sad loss. Rest in Peace David. 😢💔🙏

SO SO TRUE xx
Look around and listen up. So much just keeps getting better. Helps to know where to look. It's out there.

I have the Woodstock and Woodstock 2 albums. On the Woodstock album, I believe, they said that was the first time they ever played before a live audience.
Yes
Great music from great times. So honored to be a part of it! Lucky we have sound recorders to record all of t!
The music from the 60's & 70's is all recorded! Thank GOD! This is all I listen to every day! What kind of day would
it be without a Beatles song???? I couldn't name you any of todays songs or performers. Mostly garbage... like hip-hop
and horrible sounding country and rock songs...
I Love You Tasha ,Jude And Lucy 💯☺️

Still gets me after so many years😢
This song touches my heart even tho I was to young to notice when it first came out, I first heard it in the late 70’s.
This goes beyond music. This is pure magic. No one writes like this anymore. Shame.
Best band of the 20th century IMO. My father listened to CSN&Y all the time. Now I'm his age and in listening to CSN&Y with my children growing up. It sure is a great time watching my little ones learn all about the world and grow stronger and smarter everyday.
I almost forgot Young.
Just sent me way back in time. So touching!
Thank you for all inspiration ✌🏿😞 Rest in Power Dave Crosby.Getcha Pull 🥃🔥🥦💨🛸-CHEERS 🍻
