@Bo Mo. Grabbing or holding on to your opponent is not an illegal move in boxing. Intelligent boxers often use this ploy to rest or handicap the opponent during a fight. During the George Foreman fight, Ali planned a surgical win. The rope a dope. Pure genius from Ali, fighting a much younger and stronger opponent , and thus knocking him out . When Ali got Young pinned to the corner over a dozen times to whoop him , Young would constantly leave the ring to escape. That is a coward
Not only was Ali the Greatest as a boxer but it appears that he also invented Rap! He was rhyming before anyone else. And he even had an album out where he was Rhyming. The term Rap didn’t exist yet but he was Rhyming first before anybody. Yep, Muhammed Ali the Originator of Rap! I said it first and you heard it here first! Your welcome!
U cant win the title with the tactics Young used, especially against a legend like Ali. Young shouldve been disqualified or at least had multiple points taken away.
"Manhandled" implies an almost complete domination. Neither of those two fights was like that. A lot of people thought Young should have gotten the decision over Ali, and Foreman came VERY close to knocking Young out.
@@jacobh7188 You're not wrong, but the Rumble in the Jungle took Foreman out mentally. Foreman said he had nightmares about that fight for years. He would be winning, then get dropped by the same combination. He would wake up out of the dream and still couldn't believe he lost even in his dreams. His confidence in himself was shot.
When the enemy keeps ducking outside the ropes to get a breather, I'd say warn him the first time, penalise him for doing it again, and disqualify them the last time. That doesn't happen so the champ drops the custom of not attacking an opponent who's turned his back. Punches landing on or around the brain stem. Not funny and his reactions are like he knows what it means to have received some of those. He got his hand raised. He faced up to it.
+marietto2008 my point is this: as a challenger you must TAKE the title away from the champion. you must show that you want it, you must be the aggressor.
+marietto2008 I don't know how much boxing you watch or have been watching but Jimmy young should have been disqualified for ducking under the ropes. Cheers.
regardless he acted cowardly. Don't know the reason because he didn't look scared of foreman at all. The media at the time did question his heart so it's not out of the blue that ppl commenting on this video are asking the same question. he lost 19 fights, so there is no point in discussing his legacy as a boxer.
The referee, and Jimmy Young's corner failed him in this fight. In a close fight, the scoring officials correctly took into account his continually ducking under the ropes, and scored those close rounds for Ali. Purposely ducking under the ropes is treated as though you left the ring. The first time it happens, you can treat it like it was accidental. After the second time, the ref needed to give him an official warning, putting him on notice. If he does it again, take points away, then disqualify if he keeps it up. By not warning him, you let him think it's ok, and he keeps doing it. Meanwhile, the scoring officials are punishing him. Even if Young wasn't aware of this, his corner should have been, and they should have been on his butt about it. Forewarned, maybe he is able to tie Ali up when pressed against the ropes, and is able to win those rounds. Then again, maybe he can't tie Ali up, or fight his way off the ropes, and Ali knocks him out. We needed to find out. Instead, he uses an illegal tactic, and no one warns him about it. Fail!
I think the the ref eventually did deduct a point .I had to watch this one in installments ,I don't think Young won the boxing match in any way ,he would land a light quick combo and run that was it.Young should have been disqualified after doing it 3 times .
To say that Jimmy Young beat Ali in this fight is a disrespect to the GOAT. If you watch the whole fight Jimmy Young kept hiding his head under the ropes like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. The referee should have we warned or deducted points from Jimmy Young for this.
Jimmy Young was a very unorthodox fighter ducking through the ropes , running away etc. , is what cost him fights. Actually, he was once a neighbor of mine in the 70’s. He’d always speak and had a very nice disposition . RIP ALI and Mr. Young 🥊🥊
Many didn't like it, and I didn't like Ali's performance, but he deserved the win. Every time Young slipped through the ropes was, by the rules, a knockdown, though the ref didn't call them. Young was clearly terrified of Ali's power. In any case... R.I.P. Jimmy Young, and Muhammad Ali.
I agree, by rule the boxer is abandoning the ring and should be given a knockdown and subsequent count. Ref called it once. He should have called it every time. I was 8 at the time, but remember my Mom saying she thought Young won the fight.
Rope the dope. Really Young was applying the modified version of rope the dope. Embarrassed haters are now dictating how Young should have fought. Second it's very arrogant to tell that Young shouldn't fight defensively. Ali fans will are angry that Young didn't take all beating and defeated Ali.

I don't know the rules, but were I the ref, I would have told Young that if he ducked outside the ropes again, I'd count it as a knockdown and give him a standing 8. Regardless of Young going the distance, Ali won that fight, hands down.
I have heard about this fight for years....and assumed the people calling for Young as the winner was probably correct. Watching Young take half his body out of the ring half a dozen times...christ, they should have counted each of those as a knockdown. Based on that, Ali won.
I saw this as a kid live and I said has this ever happened in boxing--sticking your head out of the ropes?? Decades later, I still say the same thing. WTF?!!
I think the referee could have justifiably ruled it a knockdown every time Young was hit and took refuge through the ropes. That would have stopped the nonsense in a hurry.

Cowardice act by Jimmy Young by running away from the fight when he was being pounded by Ali. Half his body was outside the rope and Ali stopped punching him every time he did that. Jimmy Young was a cheat and deserved to lose.

No point in Hiding behind the Ropes! As u only have to come back, into the Ring anyway!! AND I don't know if Foreman was joking or not, but he said that Young 'Beat the devil out of me'

In the first minute of the video, I realized that Ali is having a coward. If you see impatient Ali, he is having a coward and Young, did not deserved to be against the greatest boxer and the bravest man ever.
Ali was old... Way past his prime... All and all did not look good in this fight... Having said that, he clearly did more than enough in this fight to easily beat Young -- what controversy? Young, was not the aggressor, for sure. Moreover, he ducked outside the ropes four or five time when Ali was on the attack, and would have done some damage to the point of knocking him out. But, we will never know. For this quasi cowardly tactic, Young was severely docked points, rightly and justifiably so. Bottom line... Ali was on the decline, but he earned this decision by any objective measure. Please stop with all this nonsense. You wanna argue over Norton 3rd fight, that's legitimate... Why can't people argue objectively, in lieu of being meatheads? It takes all kinds I guess.

It was an exhibition, just like when amatuer Young sparred Ali years before. You had to stop Ali at the time, which wasn't in Jimmy's bag of tricks.
@@corytclark And as history would read it Liston, Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Young and finally the legendary Ossie Ocasio. Young and Norton weren't fighting Ali, they were fighting the business of Boxing.
@@richardmorris7063 Young's fight plan is to make sure his oppenent looks worse than he does. A belt was never in his cards.
The coward young, even has the audacity to put his arms in the air at the end of the fight indicating that his won.
One sh_t ref and one sh_t coward fighter.
I am a die hard Ali fan and watched all his fights probably a thousand times over. I have watched this fight only about 3 times.
Ali showed tremendous amount of patience during this fight. R I P Brother Ali.
Young was an embarrassment to boxing and to himself.
Rap existed before this fight.
U cant win the title with the tactics Young used, especially against a legend like Ali. Young shouldve been disqualified or at least had multiple points taken away.
Muhammad Ali manhandled Jimmy Young and George Foreman was manhandled by Jimmy Young. Ali deserved to win.
SparklyKamDBZ The results of the other two fights you mentioned have nothing to do with scoring this one.
counterstriving Only stating facts.
OK. Well I agree with your facts although "manhandled" is an exaggeration in each case.
counterstriving Why do you think it's an exaggeration?
"Manhandled" implies an almost complete domination. Neither of those two fights was like that. A lot of people thought Young should have gotten the decision over Ali, and Foreman came VERY close to knocking Young out.
Muhammad Ali had the best dancing moves in the ring awesome 💯😎💯😎
After watching Young beat Forman,,its hard to believe how bad he looked in this fight
Foreman was no longer in his prime at that point.
@@handzofstone1152 Nope. Foreman was still in his prime. Actually, he missed A LOT of his final prime and pissed it away by retiring.
He faced up to it.
you do not win a championship by ducking under the ropes.
When ali swayed on the ropes, refeee let the man get hit. When young ducked, fight had to be stopped. Use brain not hate.
@marietto2008 yup
Fail!
It must take common sense to know that!
He failed himself
load of BS
I think the the ref eventually did deduct a point .I had to watch this one in installments ,I don't think Young won the boxing match in any way ,he would land a light quick combo and run that was it.Young should have been disqualified after doing it 3 times .
True, great analysis.
Young 🥊🥊
You were once a neighbor of mind too.
@@sidharthk2793 well call me your dumb names like "hater", but I'm stating fact according to the rules of boxing. And it wás called "Rope-A-Dope".

What a coward fighter Jimmy Young every time ducking in rope and people think he was the challenger . That was the Greatness of ALI that he didn't throw him out of the ring while he could do so that is why he is the Greatest . And referee should had disqualified to the Jimmy .
Jimmy was any thing but a coward. He just wanted to entertain ppl. Watch jimmy vs forman match
Even the blind must see Ali as winner...
Listen bottom line is Young should have been disqualified for hanging through the ropes. What boxer does that?? He was good as a contender that no one trained for. More like a neighborhood fighter. Yeah Young was ok but never took it to the next level more like a clown fighter. Who you really couldn't get up for because of all of his shenanigans and light punching!!
And by the way I would be ashamed of myself hanging through the ropes 1 time let alone 5 times. Instant call for disqualification. Just as bad as turning your back on your opponent. Why shouldn't you have to beat Ali soundly to get the win????? After all He is The Greatest Of All Time!!!!!!!!
Dumb comment...Young beat both Ali and Norton, but was robbed....Young did beat Foreman , with Foreman going down once.
I totally agree very silly fighter in my opinion.
@@jayedwards5466 My friend robbed from what how many fighters to know that out of the Ring like that.u can use the ropes but not out of the ropes.sorry but that was very childess.
You try beating foreman and come back and tell me jimmy sucked
If I'd been the ref, I would have deducted a pt. every time JY put his body outside the ring.
It’s meant to be a disqualification
Ali did UT. Thatsvlegal. Ref should have deducted points when Ali started hitting him outside the ropes. Ali got his ass handed to him.
if young won the fight, ducking the ropes means he did not deserve it
Ali is the only boxer who really practiced the noble art
Young was an unskilled fighter. Every time Ali was on the verge of knocking young down, he would flee like a coward and hide between the ropes. I've never seen anyone but Young do this. The referee should have taken points off for this shameless tactic. Anyone who says Ali lost this fight, is crazy!
ali lost it
bathiya01 you must have watched a different fight to everone else
you said yourself the ref SHOULD HAVE taken points off of young BUT HE DIDN`T. It redivulous to say young was an unskilled fighter. In this fight he landed more scoring punches than Ali which should have given him the decision. the size of the margin of victory is an embarrassing indication of how biased the judges were. Wonder if it had anything to do with the planned defence against Norton. MONEY TALKS REMEMBER
john martin jimmy young did nothing but run before I watched this fight I heard alot of people say young was robbed so I assumed ali dominated the fight but young got the occasional good shot and people were exaggerating but what I ended up seeing was the most one sided post thrilla in manila ali fight

Young has been counted once and ducking the rope three or four times which should be counted . I cannot believe there is someone try to convince public that young won the fight. lol

He did count to 10 first time
I have heard about this fight for years....and assumed the people calling for Young as the winner was probably correct. Watching Young take half his body out of the ring half a dozen times...christ, they should have counted each of those as a knockdown. Based on that, Ali won.

And Norton wasn't robed twice maybe one but not twice. There fight were very close anyway
Ali couldn't slip, ducking and weaving punches, fighting like aggressor.
