- The classic curly tail grub is most commonly fished on a jighead and is right up with with a Texas-rigged worm as a consistent bass catching lure. Dave LeFebre gives one of his go-to finesse grub tactics for tough conditions, and it works great for largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass.
The rig consists of a 3inch or 4-inch grub paired with an innovative hook, advanced finesse line, and sensitive spinning equipment that when taken together becomes a refined and sophisticated presentation. Try this system on pressured bass, clear waters, or on neutral to negative fish - you're gonna get bit.

Hey, I love this technique. I've fished this grub weightless t- rigged and the action is great when it is slowed down like this.
I am currently using the Sufix Nanobraid in the 2 lbs. test strength, this on a 1000 series reel . . . for panfish. It is a really nice braid. And, I own some of these hooks, so I'll have to piece together a set-up like this one and give it a go! Great video! Brad

I fish this grub a lot here in South Africa. We call it the fat albert. Texas rigged weightless. My favourite lure. Extremely weedless as well.

I do this a lot most days I get more bites twitching it across the top with short pauses also if you haven't tried it try rigging up 2 like a double fluke rig makes casting a bit easier as well .
this would be KILLER on those times when the fish are blowing up on those TINY little threadfin shad
I like this same rig, with a split shot added in front.

Basically you can use your dropshot combo for this technique. You don't have to go out and buy another set up.

Haydog _322 it's all personal preference but you can basically use a dropshot combo for this technique.
how far can you throw that grub with a spinning reel
Anywhere from 80' - 100' in calm or with the wind to your back. You'll see casting distance decline with heavier line.
I'd rather rig it on a 1/32 or 1/16 oz jig with a #1/0 hook. Braid used looks thicker that 2# test.
2# test diameter equivalent to monofilament.
Nano braid comes in 150 yards what do you do to get a full spool?
We run a braid backer material for the majority of the spool then top off with Nano Braid.

Dave didn't mention it in this video, but we assume a size 1 to 1/0 for this grub. It was either a light or medium wire hook.
