The BEST Finesse BAIT No One Uses

  • This is the best finesse bait that no one talks about or uses anymore but it wins tournaments. The Grub is a soft plastic bass fishing lure that was used in the same ways we use finesse swimbaits today. You can put a grub on Alabama rigs, one Ned rigs, on swimbait heads, on Texas rigs, on free rigs etc. It so versatile that that it will catch ever fish that swims.

@@johnnyreb1475 Sure do...might have to buy from Lunker City's site to get choice of size/color. I do good with the 3" on L action with 4-6# test. Not as good with the larger sizes; they might be better with twist-lok and nose hook?? Alewife was my favorite.

I prefer tail down to avoid fouling the hook. I also like long wispy tails. So, I clip 4" worms w/tails off to 2"-3" depending on water clarity and depth. I'll clip them on a slight angle to improve glide or drop rates. (Thank you Malcolm Lane) White Bass, LM Bass & Crappie seem to like salt & pepper the best.

I fish tail down on grubs. Mainly use zoom fat Albert's and the BPS ones. Use them alot as a swimming bait but also slow rolling down steep banks or in deep water. Great bait that people do not use as much anymore. Thanks for the video.

This was a fantastic video to begin your 2023 presentations. This bait is good for every category of fisherman from beginner to professionals in national championships. I spoke about the curly tail last year. It was a video called “don’t forget about the curly tail.“ I emphasized a lot of points that you made such as this bait is one of the most successful baits in bass fishing but it is hardly highlighted. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

In my heart, it will always be a Mr. Twister. 😀 I fish in very clear water and love their versitility when I am in area with diverse type of bottom or cover. Drag it, snap it, swim it, vertical jig it, jigworn in the weed, etc. If I am not just working a reaction bite, my most successful method is a natural color (baby bass is a great one) on a swim, kill, short drag retrieve. Unless I am on a muddy bottom, I get most of my fish on long kills (maybe 20 seconds). Seizdcaracass mentioned zman. Would love to try something buoyant that would stand up on the pause. Elaxtech might help with my number grub problem: bluegill and sunfish biting off the tail. I would fish it a lot more if I didn't have to be replacing baits all the time.

Like the man said, this is the original swimbait lure, us " Old Farts " have been fishing these lures , like me for over 50 years and they were killer for all types of fish back in the day and they still are now , never hit the water without them , and the twin tail grubs make for an great jig trailer too !!!

That is one of fav secret baits. My go to grubs are zman gurbz, scented curly tail, and streakz, Zoom Fat Albert, Strike king Rage tail Grub, Rage Menace, Powerbait boss grub, Googan Love bug, Yamamto Hula grub. I have caught a Largenmouth, smallmouth, spotted bass, walleye, and crappie with them. The average bass size I caught was 3-5lbs. My biggest bass was 9lbs.

I wish I could load a picture. I have a 3" pumpkin pepper mister twister on a 3/8 Oz ball head on a rod right now. I tear smallies and walleye ( occasionally a pike) up in front of my dad's cabin on the rip rap. Kind of a family fave among my dad and uncles.
I always throw it on a baitcaster and always put the curl on the same side as the hook point. I switch the retrieve up until I figure out how they want it.

When I started fishing back in the 80s ALL we used was grubs...I always assumed that grubs were THE go to lure for bass and other panfish for everyone...it is only in the past few years when I started watching online fishing content that I was shocked to discover how few people use them. Sure, there are other lures that work better in certain situations, but when in doubt you can't go wrong with a grub.
