Love your content! I like the fact that you take a practical approach to EVERTHING and admit that nothing is FREE.
Thank you, just posted another milling video if you are interested.
I like the milling vids just how they are. I didn't know a thing about this subject until I watched your vids. I didn't even know I'd be glued to to screen each time. I'm a city girl but I enjoy your content. You sir have given me a new interest.
Cool, thanks.
Exactly my thought's too. Now when i'm drivning around where i live, i find myself looking for saw mils, lol
One of the things that I like is that you make it very clear just how long and how much effort goes into doing these jobs. People get some really silly ideas just how long it takes to make something or for this type of project.
Me being someone that does this kind of stuff still underestimates it each time....otherwise, I'd probably not do it. Underestimating makes the world go round.
I love the relaxing music, I find woodworking videos relaxing and the music fits so well
I'll keep that in mind, thanks
I am also a chain saw milling fool . It's hard work but the payoff is when you slid that first slab off to revel the treasure in the tree. It's even more satisfying when the wood would have been used for fire wood or left to rot. I recently ordered a portable band saw mill to make lumber from wood that tree service companies drop in my yard . I have an outdoor wood furnace to burn the straps in . Keep up the good work. It's unusual to see a young person who is willing to work hard .
I love watching other people care and enjoy the art of woodworking as much as I do. I have always bought my rough cut lumber from my local guy near me, but I feel doing it your way keeps u connected with the environment. Way to go.
Love any video you do...........so do what you want to and show us how it is done so we can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
When you have good content your videos make you money too, so what a win win scenario. I have been following you for quite a while and I keep doing so because of what you do. Keep it up you are doing awesome.
It is a nice perk, thank you for watching.
We always enjoy whatever you feel like sharing. It would have cost the people quite a bit to have that tree removed. You are putting in a ton of work and energy into your beautiful creations, and that is what makes your furniture great. It must give you a feeling of great satisfaction to have taken a fallen tree and through hard work, persistence and talent, to have it turned into a beautiful piece of artisan furniture. That is what being a craftsman is all about...The care and love that goes into creating something you can’t get just anywhere. Thanks for sharing. It is inspiring to watch you work...Think I’ll work up some energy to get some spring cleaning done now...Lol!
Thank you, good luck cleaning.
Enjoy your video's.. Find it refreshing that someone so young is out doors working hard and creating beautiful work.. Keep it up.
I love the videos and the content in them. I just getting into woodworking and it's fascinating to see the work that goes into finding and milling quality wood. Makes me feel less cranky about paying what I do at my local woodworking store.
Cool! Thanks for filming all of these videos and sharing.
Love the videos I can appreciate the problems you run into. I don’t do any milling but I do cut fire wood for my heat in the winter and know what effort that takes and the problems that occur.
I enjoyed every one of the milling videos. It is truly fascinating.
Good job, I can't think of a harder wood that grows around here than White Oak. Seems like you could even sell that as lumber, if you have so much. I like watching this because you had some tricky ways of doing certain things. You really are amazing, sure your daddy is proud.
Delighted to see your vids back again. Really top notch
Absolutely great content. As a guy who's never done any milling, it seemed like much less work that it actually is. Now I'm looking forward to seeing what you make out of the lumber!
I like your milling videos - it's a wonderful way to utilise these magnificent old trees. I hope you make furniture which brings you a healthy profit - you really deserve it.
I enjoy watching something I know nothing about. Your never to old to learn. Thank you
Definitely love the milling videos. It's waaaay more work than I'd ever do, and I'm a woodworker with no desire to ever do that myself. BUT, for some reason, I enjoy watching you and Matt Cremona go at it. I think it has to do with the woodworker in me that loves seeing those beautiful slabs cut from something that would have previously gone to waste. Good job.
Oh my goodness! That house captured in some of your video is exactly like one I lived in for nearly 30 years! I have to confess I was a little shocked to see it just 'appear' like that! Sorry for the digression. Nice job - you are a hard-working man!
I love the videos. Thanks for making them. I can't wait to see you make something with that wood.
I absolutely love watching your videos. Keep doing what you do. That’s why I subscribed to your channel.
Those first slabs you took off look like good benches!😊
What a good pay-it-forward attitude you have. Awesome and hugely enjoyable, thank you. Rich :)
Thanks Rich
I really enjoy watching all of your videos your work ethics should be commended thanks for all the enjoyment
Love all the videos! (I actually like the videos where you show how to make furniture, but learning how to mill the lumber is amazing.) So the lumber you now have from the tree is a resource for future builds! I like to use repurposed old broken furniture for things like benches step stools tables etc - think old headboards foot boards crib parts for benches.
So keep the inspiration coming!
I too prefer furniture and project oriented videos. In the future I'd like to do them more often.
You definitely had your hands full with this job!! You worked really, really hard and I have no idea how you did it mostly by yourself. I know you got a lot, a lot of wood from it. I look forward to seeing weekday all you make out of all of it. I know you said a table I believe was one thing you were going to make but needless to say you have plenty of wood to make many, many other things too. Best of luck son. Thank you for sharing!
I love watching your videos. I’ve actually learned a lot from watching them. Man..........your a hard worker.
Love the milling videos! Keepm coming, longer the better
I am enjoying the video's. Thanks for sharing.
You are doing great on the videos. Keep 'em coming. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
Videos are awesome the way they are ! Keep em coming ! Thumbs up.
Thank you
Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how you work.
I have really enjoyed these milling videos. It was interesting to learn how you acquired this lumber. I don't comment much but love your videos.
I enjoy your milling process videos and am fine with content and time of videos.
Thanks
Thank you James
It's so much more satisfying to build using material you cut. Love the videos been enjoying milling with my new 441
Agreed! Hows the 441 mill? What size and type stuff you milling?
The Homestead Craftsman It's great! I'm in Alberta so don't have too many big trees. Been milling lots of Box Elder, Ash and just picked up some nice Elm. I run a 24in mill at the moment but I'm sure the 441 would handle a 32. I have a friend with a 660 if I find anything really big.
Man I would clean that up in a second! Every last piece. We installed a wood stove we found in an abandoned house from the early 1900s that was about to collapse. It would burns those little bits easy. Wish I could follow after you.
Love your videos man! God bless you and yours.
Ha, I wish you cleaned it up too...after all the milling, that's the last thing I want to do.
I love your videos both on this channel and your Homemade Home channel. I learn a great deal from your videos and I find them very entertaining. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Thanks
Love the milling videos. Getting a saw mill very soon for myself
You will enjoy it, if you buy one through one of my links in the video's description I'll get a commision from Amazon, no pressure, just an option....doesn't have to be the one that is linked to, as long as you go through the link.......it could be toilet paper!
Really enjoy the milling videos, please keep doing them. I’ll send you some pics of what we do. Thanks !
Thanks for the photos, looking good. Send more anytime, I enjoy seeing them.
I love your milling videos
Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy your craftsmanship
Thanks
Great videos, keep it up, you're really good at it!
I'm wanting to so start milling here in UK so have been very interested in this series of videos.Nothing is too long provided it doesn't keep repeating the same info.Keep up the good work.
Good to know, luckily each situation is different and presents various problems.....and every log is unique as well. I'd like to do some videos showing milling and a project all in one video using the lumber....which would have to be filmed over time.
Great job! But I wish I could have seen you mill it all. Thank you for your video. Roger
Enjoying your videos very much. 😃👌👌👏👏👏👏
You just keep doing what your doing fella, longer the better as far as i'm concerned...
Thanks for sharing your video's with us. I love watching them. God Bless you and yours.
Thanks, same to you.
truly enjoyed watching ... you may not have made money but you sure saved some in wood costs ... plus you completed a personal challenge on several levels
True, if I did buy this, it would be very expensive. Im doing it just to do it, I don't even really care if I make something out of it.....which I will, but I just like turning raw materials such as a log into slabs, and so on and so on.
Awesome! More please!
Like the videos. All channels. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Thanks
I think you’re doing a great job with the videos, you can’t please everyone on the internet for sure. I appreciate the longer more detailed videos myself. But, the way you cut off sometimes is good too. Keep doing you bro, there’s obviously some chicks on here wanting more, but that’s between y’all lol. Stay safe out there bro.
Great videos of slabbing. I’ve done a little myself. A lot of work but rewarding nonetheless. Absolutely priceless 👍👍
A looooottt of work, my back is still sore. But it is indeed good lumber.
LOVE your videos!
Wow. That tree has been a lot of work!
Another awesome video!
Thanks
Those John Deere lawn tractors sure rock. I had an old one with a kohler engine and used it to skid pine logs on a sight I was helping my in laws clean up. Awesome tractors especially the older ones.
Mine is a 185 Hydro, it's got a 17 hp Kawasaki which is quite a bit of power for this size mower. They Hydrostatic drive is also very nice. I cut grass the other day that was about 5 feet tall and didn't even bog down....looked like a mess and took 3 cuts to look ok, but it did it.
I've had the pleasure of running a Deere 400, what a beauty! I have a vintage Cub Cadet 149 hydrostatic....fun to run and fun to work on.
Cool, my Dad has a lawn mower collection Mainly John Deere and Cub Cadets, old stuff Like the JD 110's and similar. I'm a big Hydrostatic fan.
Top Notch video, excellent content and length, of course videos could always be longer. Looking forward to seeing some furniture made from all the lumber have been milling.
Your videos are just right.
Great Videos!
Nice job
very cool...won't pan down, what's that all about buddy. LOL keep up the great work!
Keep up the great videos.
I enjoy watching you and your family also getting involved. Don't get discouraged from the negativity from some of the dummy people.
I enjoy your vids, period!
Really like the milling videos. It is something I have considered especially with the price of walnut and white oak being so expensive in my area.
Thank you. A chainsaw mill probably not the best way to go for selling, unless you are going to specialize in big stuff and have the trees and customers......and help, and equipment, and time, and, and, and.........but don't be discouraged. Just keep in mind that it's 10 times harder than you think it is.
The Homestead Craftsman I have help plenty at sawmills growing up that's how I paid for my first truck at 16. I've worked circle Mills band Mills and helped with a chainsaw mill before. The chainsaw mill is definitely very very hard work but it is very satisfying
I'll bet you sleep well at night base on how hard you work! Thank you for the great content.
As long as my back doesn't hurt to bad.
There is potential money to be made there. Whether the cost/benefit pans out is the case.I was kind of salivating at the potential firewood. There is a lot there.
Great video, thanks.
Great video, I really like your milling videos. Looks like it’s time for an ATV with a nice trailer on it.
Indeed, I have been looking for one...but got by without it on this one.
Your videos are awesome man
Thank you
Very interesting stuff
great job man
Thank you
Vids are class 🌲
Love the milling videos! Lets see the storage and process of what happens on the storage/other side of the processing. Great vid, I run a 36" mill on my MS660. Wish I had the luck of finding a tree like that or even your walnut. Seems like there is still some fantastic pieces being left behind. Live edge benches for fire pits/patios get some really good traction in my area for those off cuts.
Will do, in short, it gets stacked up to air dry. Check out my instagram page, I show that kind of stuff there. instagram.com/thehomesteadcraftsman/
love the milling video's...makes me want to run out and start it up..
It is fun and that's what keeps you coming back. I don't even have any projects in mind when doing this, I just like doing it.
Looks great
Thanks
I can appreciate your hard work but the whole operation of making something is more awesome. Enjoyed your book!
Man whats a matter with me. Love the milling video's. Thanks for sharing.
yes we love the milling videos....keep em coming.....lol.....you already know this but boy a truck or trailer with a winch would sure help huh.......keep up the great work.....thanx.
Will do. I've got a truck and trailer and just got a gas powered winch......still want and electric winch for certain things though, I had one but it broke.
I like your long videos
Enjoyed watching that..and the wood you get out of it.. like that walnut video. I look for wood like that for carving but in Alberta the wood is mostly soft and 1/3 the thickness. I wonder how long it would take to stack the left overs still in the bush. I am sure homeowner would appreciate it.
Great video, Thats a lot of work, but well worth it.
Thanks
Love these videos, really wont to see projects made with the wood.
I'm looking forward to that as well.
thank you good info to me
I like the milling videos
Thanks
Perfect.
Thanks
I like your milling videos. Just wondering how pleased the homeowner is now that you’re finished with your job. That would be important to me.
If they had the tree removed I bet it would cost thousands.......if they wanted to clean it up more than I did.....maybe a couple hundered, $500ish now. In no time all the stuff in the woods will be covered up...as far as removing the stump, good luck! The answer to your question is they were very happy and glad I am using it for lumber.
The Homestead Craftsman That’s great. I watched the whole project and know it was a lot of work. Always good when it’s a win, win.
Great stuff! I'm learning a lot from each video. Going to post my own cedar milling project before too long, thanks to your inspiration:-)>
Look forward to seeing it.
I see a dozen and a half or more patio benchs, custom benchs for breakfast nook table set or bedroom dressing
benchs all high end items in those fletch slabs.
Indeed, still lots of wood but have to leave something for the termites.
I would have liked to see the slab's you've made... :) Thumbs up!!
I'm going to show them eventually
those ends would make interesting benches .. long too.. just get some branches and drill holes in the bottom and hammer the branches in
More milling videos!
Knowing that you also keep a right budget. Can you tell me what is the best way to go about publishing a book.
There are lots of plans on UA-cam about Solar Kilns. Considering the value of the wood and your occupation, it might be a wise investment. Also, if you don't already have one, you can get a LCD Digital Wood Moisture Meter on eBay for just a few dollars. I got one where you can dial in different types of lumber, and it works real good.
Your could also see it as a waste of great wood whats not a good thing to have in these times.Keep doing it, keep showing. Not to long or to short at all. I would love to see the part after it, how stack it and why etc. one thing maybe for the future is that you talk about white oak etc but how can you see this and what do you look for to find out what it is . I think many dont know this.
More 12,000 house videos please
Super entertaining. That's the bottom line. You are catering to people who love watching this stuff, so don't worry about too many details or too lengthy.....it's like crack for us woodcraft lovers. The same goes for your other channel.
Havn't done crack myself so I'll have to take your word for it....just kidding, thanks.
Maybe ask the owner to contact some woodturners, that would be win-win ;)
Obviously it was a lot of work. BUT it seemed you learned a few extra things and had an enjoyable experience.
Oh yeah, one of them being that I need to be smarter about how I move heavy objects and which trees I choose to mill.
Do a chain sharpening video
