The Cannon Rush is kind of the fastest real threat the Protoss race can produce. One Oracle requires mining 300 gas, is 2 tiers farther down the tech tree, is very fragile, and is STILL energy-gated even if you blitz it out and it encounters zero defensive resistance, which shouldn't happen. Double Adepts are 1 tier more of tech requirements, but not very far ahead of the power curve of the game when they hit. Especially against Terran because all their lowest-tier units take three hits to kill.
I personally wish Protoss had a little more fun stuff to do early on than just building offensive Cannon outposts, but it does create a very interesting chess match kind of scenario where all unit production and every tech advantage in the early game is game-deciding. And not much else has high impact/threat potential.
I dont think that giving the by far best lategame race more early game cheeses is an great idea. Glave Adept and Cannon Rush are more then enought we saw how much Protoss did dominate with the Battery+Void Raid all in that luckely got nerfed.
@@thefirstk6331 yeah, i dunno what qualifies as a 'cheese' or not for you, or how to tier list the lategame for all the races, since lategame gamestate is so heavily reliant upon getting an edge in the early and midgame. Seems like too much calculus to make that call.
I just mean I like variations that can work. Terran, for instance, can do a lot of opening moves that work pretty well. Mine drops, cyclones are great all-round early units, a handful of marines is super flexible, marauder all-ins, hellion/reaper combos are really mobile, 1-2 banshees is a pretty sweet punch.
And I LIKE that creative flexibility, tbh. I'm glad they have it cuz it's fun that way. I just like having things not be super "figured out" where most opening options just make you fall on your face simply for choosing them, because they're too one-dimensional not to be countered easily.
I didn't play when the Void Ray/Battery strategy was a thing, but with Void Rays being one of only 3 early units that shoot up AND down (stalker, void ray, sentry), it's a pretty cool idea, too, since they're less fragile. Not saying it should be the ONLY thing people do, either - again, options!
Not really trying to argue about it if that's what you're looking for. All I was really saying is that's why I think cannon rushing is generally popular. It's a fast way to really have solid offensive impact for a race that can feel sorta one-dimensional very early on or you just die.
Cannon Rush Meta feels high stakes and can succeed or fail at any moment. Also watching high level players suffer is tasty haha
I love winning these cannon rush games. Its a nice break from the 20+ year zerg only run.
The recent patch that reduced probe radius made it much harder to squeeze out of a wall with a pylon. It's still possible, but the margin for error is extremely small. Still easy to squeeze out with a gateway. If you put your cannon in the right place it's still easy with a pylon as well.

I love cannon rushing, but I havent played in a while so watching someone cannon rush is how I get my fix. bonus points if the enemy loses there marbles (which sadly seems to happen less in your rank) in my rank, it's almost guaranteed from a cannon rush.

Just wanted to save some money for forward cannons, didn't expect him to commit to 6 zerglings despite seeing he can't possibly kill the cannon ( assuming I finish it)

I know I can't afford both. Was just looking for a 0.1% chance of the guy not making spores/lair. I was dead either way
