Each one of these games I’ve seen has taught me one basic thing. Brood War balance was basically “well if every unit is stupidly broken then it’ll all balance out.”
U should have seen reavers fighting hydras and lings
It helps that you can only control 12 broken units at a time, and 1 spellcaster per click. Queens are actually a bit nerfed with broodling doing like 300 dmg instead of ohko.
@Appletank8 yah, but in 1992 it was on the to game list. It was pretty much a game where dragoons would make you regret your life
I wonder if the modders can put that 12 units per control groups on the brood war races? It does seem like the brood war players are winning, but all I can see are what winter uploads
@@berengerchristy6256 nah, BW units have some serious limitations. SC2 has really high mobility that's hard for BW units to catch up in places, and also SC2 has way stronger air units. The hell are Goliaths gonna do against teleporting Battlecruisers?
The biggest advantage BW has is their spellcasters are generally really strong, especially the single target ones since they were a massive pain to even utilize in the old game. And also Defilers are busted when you can have like 5 on the field. Constant ranged damage immunity and death clouds.
After YEARs of the " we used to fly" joke, I have finally seen it.

Winter you have no idea how nostalgic these games are. The SC1 units and sound effects being dropped into SC2 is fricken incredible. I'll watch every video you post for SC Evo mod

This game was made exclusively for Winter so the queens' delusions can be fulfilled and his blackout moments are happy instead of angry all the time. Needs to play this map as "BrendasHappyLife" instead of "BrendasRevenge"

I love the potential for this game mode. A lot of people dislike watching mirror matchups, but not a concern with this game mode!
It's funny, Terrans now feel what being sniped feels, but even worse since spawn bloodling insta kill everything unlike ghost snipe

At the beginning of the HotS beta, widow mines were able to attack invisible units even without detection.
Looking a little further back, we can see that this was a characteristic of the spider mine.

What happens if SC1 protoss uses mind control on SC2 player worker? What kind of tech tree does he get?
I really like the BW Terran vs SC2 Zerg matchup, especially the early midgame, where the Vultures and the Queens have these turf war engagements, with the Spider Mines and the Creep Tumors being great things you'd want to use for map control. A really tasteful interaction that I don't think exists in either game separately.
You could argue at some hots moment, we kinda had this with the 3reaper/4hellion vs the 3/4 queens

Another way to 'clean' the parasite is using Medics flare ability to blind that unit.
Medics can simply use Restore and purge the parasite completely.

I believe flare has to be researched and is pretty useless unless u somehow snipe all of their detectors then go ghost wraith?
Restoration has to be researched as well and is equally useless to be honest considering that the amount of debuffs youd wanna clean are in the single digits and even then a lot of them are applied in big aoes so youd have to have a lot of medics to clear ur army of debuffs.
@@ChannelMiner well, medics are cheap 1 supply units so you will have quite a few of them, and bio Terran in TvZ will always make science vessels and sometimes even battlecruisers. Using restoration to purge plague from those expensive air units is usually worthwhile.
I didn't realise how much those sounds are still so recognisable after so many years. Those tanks are iconic

So glad to see another quick upload of SC Evo. I love these games. I admit I played your videos when preparing to sleep, but yesterday and today's uploads have kept me wide awake out of pure interest. I dont play the game these days, but I'd be willing to give it a go now and maybe corrupt some friends into joining me. I feel like this has breathed life into the game and I cannot wait to see strats that pros will come up with.

It's pretty entertaining and hilarious to see imbalances throughout both games (like Arbiter Stasis taking three purgatory sentences to wear off from SC1 or literal Marines on crack from SC2) affect one another, it's so cool

This is so cool! I love the Broodwar units. Seeing them matchup in SC2 is amazing! I love the broodwar terran and zerg build. Would love to see a sc1 matchup in sc2 and to see you cast some Broodwar too! This is the best thing to happen to Starcraft2 since its release!
Idk, but the SCBW units felt like they were way more effective than the SC2 units. Like they felt imposing and powerful, and useful. The SC2 units felt expensive and expendable at the same time.
That’s bc SCBW spells were very strong
@@phamnhat2925 idk. The BW siege tanks felt tougher and more valuable. The marines felt more directly useful and less foddery
Maybe some SC1 facts from an old player :)
1. Not all ground units die from Spawn Broodling. Archon's, probe's and river's are safe because they are not alive.
2. In SC1, vulture (20 DMG) will not kill drone (40 HP) in two hits because all zerg immediately regenerate 1HP after taking damage. However, probe(20 HP 20 Shield) dies after 2 shots because the shield begins to regenerate with a delay.
3. You can cure the parasite using the medic from SC1 :)
And I'm wondering how they solved the damage types for SC1 units in SC2 because SC1 had completely different mechanics. There were 3 unit types small, medium, large and 3 damage types normal, explosive and concussive.
I wonder too about damage and unit types. I mean hydras are medium, so no full dmg from hellions or tanks in sc2.

After all those years of Brenda walking memes. I'm glad I was able to live to see this day. The day that Winter finally gets to use the meme the other way around. As someone born in '92, who played a lot of brood war amongst other games like CS1.6, Dota Frozen Throne, and etc, this is a magnificent day. All who share the same boat, unite!

Also you forgot that the original Medic had an ability call "Restore" which remover any negative status, aka, parasite or blind, etc.

I want to tell you a nice life lesson I got from SC2.
With my recent run I got to mid plat with T never winning against protoss. But winnig over 90% vs zerg.
The lesson is don't let the small defeats stop you.
Focus on your strengths and you will get there.

Dude, the protoss arbiter is completely broken. Stasis freezes an entire fleet of carriers or BCs long enough to build a bunch of turrets underneath them. Also the cloaking. Also the recall. But stasis is a hard counter to massed endgame units, and it lasts so long.
I know Lock Down doesn't have AOE, but that ability is mental vs late game Protoss.
I want to see some 2v2's with BW Protoss and SC2 Terran on the same side. Arbiters plus new BC's.
It's not broken. If that's broken the Terran nuke is broken or Terran emp giving 1 unit to take out half army health. Point is they are just a tool to be wary if and should avoid clumping when arb is spotted
SC1 casters are just built different. Though honestly Arbiters don't even see much play in BW PvT any more, you see a whole lot of drops instead.
Except you're stuck having to guard a bunch of endgame units while the other part of the army is ransacking your bases.

i doubt that actually, SC2 Terran and other races have good counter spells/splash damage units that could better handle it than SC1 Terran

So far, it looks like the BW is OP if the player is really good, and trash if the player is not as good, compared to the opponent.
I want to see two really good players.

Dude I love this mod.... I saw someone do an SC1 Terran vs SC2 Terran and the SC1 Terran was SURPRISINGLY strong. I feel like you could just add the SC1 versions of each race to the game as separate factions. That would be awesome imo.

Yes it is true. Zerg only has 12+1 units.
Infested Terran is almost impossible to build.
Terran has 13.
Protoss has 13+scout.

SC1 models mostly look so much better and sharper than SC2 models -.-
Artstyle of the first game was better in general IMO
Well, to be fair, the brood war models were made quite a lot of years after the original SC2 models. While I agree the Goliaths, Carriers and Hydras look awesome, I also do prefer the look of SC2 Firebats and Ultras. The Zerglings and Siegetanks can go either way for me as sidegrades.
Those ultralisk shows why they’re the bane of terrans. The sc2 ultralisk against broodlord Terran makes the ultralisk’s evolution lore awesome. It really shows why they need more firepower.
SC2 Players: wondering why the Zerg player is creating so many queens at the same time
Broodwar Players: having seen enough games where Terran tries to mass mech against Zerg knowing exactly what's going to happen

I know it will probably never happen, but personally I would love it if Blizzard made an official ladder in SC2 for just the classic BW factions. This way we could play the classic BW factions on the ladder but it'd be in the SC2 engine with all the quality of life improvements like we see in this mod
Or better yet, a different ladder for this mod to play as SC1 or SC2 races. That'd be so awesome.

Little disappointed there were no lurkers, cracklings, ultralisks or defilers shown off, though hopefully it will happen in the future. Loving the new mixed SC1vsSC2 content!
I'm relatively sure the Brood War Queens didn't once target the Thors, which likely means they can't affect massive to protect Thor/Archon/Ultralisk(the expensive ground units). You saw the Terran build and use Thors as an attempt to box out the Queens, or at least punish them with death for any broodling strike.
