I love these. I'm too old to blast music anyway but I have a very open space, no choice, but they still sound great. Got back into vinyl, awesome. I've had issues with the bluetooth, but usually figure it out.
i got those since maybe late 2019 , still using them everyday on the pc /console or just watching movies , perfect for the price , mids not so great but in fact does not matter much , nice review by the way!
I had to break these in to open up the high mids up a little, and after a few weeks things rounded out. These speakers are super flat down to about 120-150. They are pretty directional as well. I added a 12 and I was able to get a great, and full sound. They dont feel that pushed and I think the wood makes the response nice and tight. I think they are flat and not tuned for loudness, so that might throw some people off, but you probably wont forget your old altecs, however, these are VERY satisfying.
@@loonation2185 I can't speak to testing a batch of them. I only have one pair. The two way design is generally mid rich any way, so that's something you'll have to determine in your room.

The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
Hi Morgan. Typically the Dac in a phone or PC is not very good at all for audio quality so I would say yes, it would suffer. To improve the sound quality, I would connect the PC or phone to an external DAC then out to the speakers via RCA. You can find cheap dacs on Amazon for $50 to $100.
Would these be good for a TV when watching movies? Such as vocals being clear, a couple of people say voices get a bit muddy with Edifier. You talk about it a bit in the review, but I would like something a bit more in-depth with your experiences.
Can we adjust volume of sub through this remote? Does sub volume change according to the volume of speaker or we have to adjust sub volume manually ? please reply
I'm torned between these and R1280dbs. Based on what I heard from the comparison videos here on UA-cam, 1700 sounds like it has a V-shape sound sig, with the mids a bit recessed. I like the mids on the 1280db/dbs though, it sounds more balanced. But sometimes 1700 sounds clearer and has more crisp 😅
What did you end up going with? I am having the same dilemma, however you can alter the mids and highs on the 1700BT if you don't like them and I think it's nice to say for the build quality, 10degree angle, wattage, and general package just go for the 1700BT it's what I will be doing too.
I just bought these for the tv. I think they are very forward in the vocal which is great for dialogue but less ideal imho for music and yes, I agree the treble is EXTREMELY prominent and sharp. Listening to a rock track, it sounded like the Hi-hat was place front and center of the stage. I eq'ed the hell out of it just to try to tame the high end but to very modest effect. Overall, to be honest I am kind of disappointed in the sound signature of these speakers. That said, I bought them primarily for my HTPC and for movies so far they're great. I plan on adding a sub soon. I just wish they were more capable for music too.
You have to manually connect the Bluetooth output "I hate Bluetooth" the computer doesn't automatically recognize the speakers as a new device.... other than that they are pretty good
They will as long as you already have a phono preamp either built in to your turntable or a separate component. The edifier speakers do not have a phono preamp built in.
I Am thinking about buying the viota sa3 . I Am right now playing music from my Pioneer AV receiver in stereo mode. But i AM missing something . I like old rock hardrock en metal music. Is the iota a good choice?greetz hilco
That’s a question of how much bass you like and what speakers you paid with the iota SA3. The Iota is a fairly neutral amp so if you pair it with bass heavy speakers, you will have enough bass where a sub may not be needed. You can always add a sub at a later time if needed.
Hi Mark. They won’t distort that’s not my concern. And they will play loud enough too. My concern is when played at loud volume, 80db and up, the top treble may seem sharp or a little bright to you. Adding a sub does help tame this however. If you don’t mind a little sharp top end, these may be ideal for you. Hope this helps.
